Re: AFL Round 23

Carlton win, I score 10 in a tipping comp 2 weeks running to pinch it. Thankfully backed Collingwood in the run. Best season of AFL in ages, what an epic conclusion to the minor round.

Well done JK!
Lead from start to finish.

Shoot through your bank details for all us losers to pay!

Cheers mate, lucky enough to jag an early start, usually not too difficult after that. (Key is to go in a few comps, put in different tips among them for first few rounds, then prioritize the one you're doing best in).

Re: Qualifying Final - Adelaide v Norwood

Legs are pretty much the Collingwood of the local comp this season .. Last 5 games were wins by 3, 12, 1 and 7 points, followed by a 1 point loss.

Think we'll struggle on the bigger ground against the Crows, would ideally have Rokahr, Panos and Nunn back, but haven't been able to fault our competitiveness, so here's hoping.

Drop this game and the spectre of consecutive straight sets exits looms large.

Re: Essendon

If we say both then I think in no particular order:
Lyon
Buckley
Cameron
Hinkley
Chocco
Pyke
Leppitsch
Kingsley
Burns
Brad Scott

All bullshit aside, there's some slim pickings available atm. I'd draw a line through half of them immediately.

I know you haven't endorsed him but I think Ross Lyon is your man, if you were getting Kenny it would've happened a couple of weeks ago.

The Bombers were keen on Bassett a few years back apparently ;)

Wayne Carey caught with a bag of white powder at Perths Crown Casino.

Read an article on news.com about it - Reporting on this particular incident was brief, but then came the inevitable reminders of the recent "altercation" between he and Stevo and of course the stuff that happened 20+ years ago thats been done to death. ******* media, just give it a rest FFS.

Re: AFL Finals - Week 3

You heard it here first, we only beat Collingwood last time because of no De Goey and they had the flu go through the team.. The love fest the media have with the pies at the moment is awesome  !
I'm not sure how you got to that conclusion? Although it's Sydney's game to lose I'd be very wary of the Pies.

FWIW, I think DeGoey missing from Collingwood is as big a hole to any club missing one player, he moves like a Rolls Royce atm, I don't think he's the best player in the league but his importance to them is as big as anyone's.

Yep, bit like Stringer at Essendon, an irreplaceable X-Factor. Swans v Pies could well be another epic encounter in the best season we've seen for years.

Re: Sleep Pills

I know its easier said than done but have you tried increased physical activity.

I know for me my training in the gym and my sleeping patterns are very closely connected even when I'm feeling stressed, anxious etc.

Prior to getting crook this worked really well for me. With the fatigue that comes with a chronic illness however, my exercise capacity is limited (I do still exercise just not like I could 10 years ago). I’d prefer to avoid medication if possible, so have used *ahem* herbal remedy for years, but sick of waking up tired the next morning.

Week before last I managed 12 hours sleep for the entire week, so kinda at the point I’ll try anything now.

Re: 2022 League Grand Final - North v Norwood (Sun 18/9 @ 3p

Bravest win I can recall us having, though the first 15 minutes aside we shaded the Roosters and whilst we looked out on our feet this group doesn’t seem to give up (Quali aside). Commiserations you all the Rooster faithful on here, weather didn’t help. Still probably too shocked to comment much more, footy can sure provide some amazing highs and devastating lows.

And Tipper I’m sorry to hear that happened mate, no excuse for stuff like that.

Just when you thought you couldn’t respect Matthew Panos more.

What a player. SANFL story of the year. If you thought his winning goal against the crows in his first game back could not be topped.

Well the winner in the GF fittingly tops off an amazing come back season.

Still can’t believe he, of all people, had that much space at the death. Cemented his position as an all time NFC legend

NW Premierships I have seen
1975 v GL
1978 V ST
1982 V GL
1984 V PA
1997 V PA
2012 V WA
2013 V NA
2014 V PA
2022 V NA

The 2022 , in my opinion, was the least skilled team of those flag teams
However, in my opinion , they are the most courageous team of the lot.
They gave up leads in all 4 finals this year and prevailed 3 times.

He'd be a ruckman at Centrals, that's how short we are :D Could’ve made a effort to keep McLean, problem solved ;)

Unfortunately, never ever going to happen. Being employed at Norwood Primary, it was too easy for Connor to train and play for Norwood.... plus the lovely smell of those brown paper bags lingers in the air when you are that close to the ground.

You keep moaning about that and we’ll keep recruiting and being successful ;)

Spring Carnival Punters Club 2022

G'day Lads and Lasses, that time of the year again where the racing starts to heat up.

Anyone keen to go around for another Punters club again? Think from memory we ran at $60 per punter last year - $50 for an individual bet and $10 toward exotic bet(s). Multiple shares are allowed.

First thing we probably need is a show of hand for whoever might be interested.

Second thing to check with the group, anyone able to open a new account with one of the bookies to get us any deposit matches and/or bonus bets?

Third thing to work out, if we go ahead with it is which day do we start - Mayhaps we'll wait and see how many runners are interested first?

EDIT - Running Sheet for Derby Day below:

Race 1 - Carey - #12 Pungo $30w / Trifecta 1,2,6,8,12,13 $20 (%25)
Race 2 - MT79 - OMITTED
Race 3 - UK Fan - #2 Beau Rossa $25w (Best of Best Price) / #4 Sirius Suspect $25w (Best of Best price)
Race 4 - Dutchy - #3 So Dazzling $50w @ $8.50
Race 5 - Bum Crack - #15 Pride Of Jenni $30w @ $7, $20 place @ $2.45
Race 6 - MatteeG - #7 Grand Impact $40w @ $9.50 and $10p @ $18
Race 7 - Brodlach - #4 Mr Maestro $35 w @ $7.50 (Boosted) / #13 Distrustful Award $7.50ew @ $34/$7.50 (Bonus Cash)
Race 8 - Daysy - #12 Yearning $45w @ $18 (Boosted) / #12-#13 Quinella $5 investment (Bonus Cash)
Race 9 - Jimmy - #3 Zapateo $20w @ $6.50 / Trifecta 2-3, 2-3, 4-20

Race 1 - Bertiebeatle - #1 Zulfiqar $50 win
Race 2 - Lightning McQueen - Bell Ex One $50 win
Race 3 - Spargo - #1 Love Tap $50 win
Race 4 - Pat Pirate - #7 Cool Kaap $50 win
Race 5 - JK - #1 Crosswinds $50 win
Race 6 - Mr Beefy - #14 White Noise $50 Win
Race 7 - Daysy - Quinella 4,19 $10.40 / F4 3,4,9,13,19,24 for $39.60
Race 8 - Mickey - #6 Minsk Moment $50 win
Race 9 - Shano McQueen - Quinella 1,5,10,18 $50
Race 10 - Booney - #8 Hi Stranger & #14 Pioneer River $20 win each of them / F4 8,10,14,15 $10

Re: Spring Carnival Punters Club 2022

When we starting?

I think popular consensus seems to be Derby Day mate.

By my count we have 19 Runners at this stage with a pool of $1140 .. Hopefully we get at least one more sign up and we should be assured to at the very least get through the card's on Derby Day and the Cup Tuesday.

A bit like last year some of this we will work out on the fly but in the main it will be pretty standard. After the Tuesday we can (hopefully) work out a per share price and punters can decided whether they want to continue on to Oaks Day (and possibly beyond) or cash out.

Thus far I have the following entrants, if any mistakes just sing out and I'll adjust accordingly:

Brodlach
Brodlach
JK
JK
Mickey
Carey
Booney
Dutchy
MT79
Patawolonga Pirate
Lightning McQueen
Jimmy_041
Jimmy_041
daysofourlives
daysofourlives
Spargo
Bum Crack
MatteeG
bertiebeatle

Deadline for entries will be Tuesday October 25 at 8.07pm. By no later than Monday (hopefully lol) I'll forward an email to those registered so that they can deposit into treasurer Dutchy's bank account with enough time for the funds to clear.

Now to decide on which Bookie to use - Anyone here willing and/or able to open a new account with any of Sportsbet, Neds, Ladbrokes and hit them up for any deposit matches. If someone is able to do so you're more than welcome to place the bets, or if you'd prefer myself or Dutchy to do so, then you can just give us the login details and we can sort out.

I have a bookie I can get a good intro match from, but I think they require 3x turnover which could be problematic when we clean up ;)

Any other thoughts or discussions, have at it lads ;)

Cheers,
JK

Re: Things that you rate!

Great work JT, how have you done that.

Won’t recognize you next time I see you at the shops. I firstly dropped 10KG between June-September during appoints at the RAH. The last 22kg I have been on Opti fast for the past 4 weeks. So its just a 1/2 a shake for breakfast and lunch. I have had half an optifast bar for morning tea and its my dessert and plain leafy greens stir-fry. I haven't had a soft drink for 4 weeks. The hardest part was the beginning and going to the Bloods B&F, I ate the vego option and I had only water all night

Well done JT, starting is always the hardest part. Great effort mate

Re: St Kilda

You blokes missed the point. All the players I listed will be better playing in a team that doesn't rely on individual talent but rather plays a brand of football that puts team first with a strong coach. Maybe the reason the saints are deemed to be a home for little cloggers is because of the way in which the players have been coached over the last decade. I mean Watters and Richardson hardly set the world on fire before Ratten came in, clearly something went wrong in the second half of this year.

FWIW I reckon you're right mate. Loved Ratt's as a player and seems like a great bloke, not sold on him as a coach though. And for all those that like to pot Ross, he took 2 unlikely (historically) teams to GF's and sure they didn't win a flag, but no shame in losing to those Geelong and Hawthorn sides, nor Collingwood in 2010, albeit a freak bounce of the ball possibly the only reason they didn't get it done. The bloke is proven imho.

Cup selections been steady lads, cheers for that. Still required from:

Jimmy x2
Days x 2
Mickey
Carey
Dutchy
Bum Crack
MatteeG
UK Fan
Shano McQueen

Reminder, PM tips please DO NOT post in here.

Also need selections for and from, the following for tomorrow:

Race 6 - Brod
Race 7 - Days
Race 9 - Shano

Will endeavour to get most bets on tonight, must have all Cup selections in by no later than 9am tomorrow please. If you miss the cutoff I can't guarantee your selection will make it in. Scratching's should well and truly be known by then.

Will update the first page with all sections once they're in and on, then on Wednesday we can confirm plans for the remainder of the week once we know what we have to play with.

Morning lads, all bets are on with the exception of Race 6 and the Cup exotics. As it stands using all exotics funds we’d get around %13 of the Tri Div if we hit it. We’ve saved a few $$ via bonus cash, so might chuck a bit more in to get us on the F4, even if just a small %age. Everyone ok with that?

Tomorrows schedule for races lads:

Race 1 - Brodlach
Race 2 - Jimmy_041
Race 3 - Gadj1976
Race 4 - JK
Race 5 - Carey
Race 6 - mighty_tiger_79
Race 7 - UK Fan
Race 8 - Dutchy (and Spargo, see below)
Race 9 - Bum Crack

We should probably have some form of exotic on the Oaks, so separate to Dutchy’s selection, as our best performed punter thus far Spargo has $50 to spend on any Quin/Tr/F4/SRM etc.

Worth noting ALL races at Flemington will run under the Bonus Bet for 2nd or 3rd for any Win bets up to $50.

We should have enough $$ for every share to get 1 more crack either tomorrow or Stakes Day (the completion of which will be official wrap up time). So keep following this thread lads, and given its halftime of this weeks racing, let’s hope we come home with a wet sail.

For those up to bat tomorrow, please send through your selections in this thread at your earliest convenience.

Any questions or queries as always get f**ed (nah just kidding, sing out with any questions)

Re: Horse Racing Tips & Discussion

Heads a bit heavy today, probably what happens when you crack your fist one at 10.30 in the morning. Had a good day, especially with Krakarib getting home in the first and Bartholomeu Dias at good prices. Just checked and had 15 winners for the day, but didn’t finish that much up so plenty of darts missed the board.

Sadly not too long after Flemington had finished a lady at the hotel suffered heart failure and unfortunately passed away, so the hotel had to be evacuated, was kinda eerie. Sad for family and friends of the deceased lady and really put into perspective how fragile life is. Hope she was having a ripper day.

Refer to my post in the sad thread, friend of mine, just saw a photo of her from yesterday and she was having a great day with a few winners :(

I spoke to a friend at the Hotel to see how they were coping and I said I just hope the poor lass had a great day, and was told she was indeed having a great time. Won’t be much comfort right now I’m sure but someday it might be comforting at least to know she was enjoying herself to the end. Sincere condolences bud.

Re: CDFC 2022

In Meggsy and Mark we trust.
An amazingly extensive list of some of the best young talent to be going around in the SANFL next year.
We should, at the very least, challenge for finals next year.
With all recruits 25 or under, and most 22 or younger, I feel we have a premiership window open for the next 5-10 years.
Are the two Norwood boys still on their way too?
Cheers

Since the AFL aligned clubs have come In, the foundation clubs have shown these days that it’s possible to turn it around in one off-season. Norwood last year a great example, lose something like 15 players, of which many had been stars but were past it (Puopolo, Griggy, Shents etc), with all due respect.

Then bring in something like 17 unknowns and with the right persons and systems in place things can happen. This can happen for the Dogs in 23’ as it can for any of the clubs IF they get it right.

But FFS if you do get it right, let’s not make it for a decade this time alright? ;) :partyman:

Re: Spring Carnival Punters Club 2022

Whats the final result?

Sorry lads, week took it's toll yesterday #-o

So our final position is this - Cash = $783.25, Bonus Cash = $40

Every share will receive $34 as a return, this will leave Booney's account with $1.25 and $40 in Bonus cash which he can keep as our thank you for all the help he provided throughout the week and by opening the account for us to use.

Everyone cool with that? Will touch base soon with arrangements for getting some $$ back into people's accounts.

Given we punted all week and only had about 3 collects, we haven't done too bad I'd say to get back a tick over %50 of our starting stake.

Cheers,

Did some quick loose sums last night, reckon we can cash back every share at double investment value AND go $50 bet(s) per share next weekend. Granted I had to close one eye to see the calculator on my phone so might still need to confirm that. Has Pat been made a moderator yet after his HOF performance?

Re: Punt Club wash up

Slight change I’d propose, Pat to decide how to invest the remaining $368 Cash, Booney (who’s done a mountain of work) to invest the Bonus Cash as a thankyou.

Re: Punt Club wash up

Just so everyone is aware, we will start organizing payments next week once we know our final position. But punters can expect a minimum $150 per share.

Re: Punt Club wash up

Well lads, that’s a wrap for this year. We’ll sort the dividend returns this week. Thanks to all who were involved, nothing earth shattering but x2.5 on investment is not too shabby. Big thanks to Treasurer Dutchy for handling the finances and also Booney, who not only sourced the bookie account for us, but did pretty much all the work after Cup week (not to mention plenty during). Hope everyone enjoyed themselves, look forward to having another crack next year. Cheers lads

Re: retirements and upcoming signings

Some handy recruiting going on with the other teams .
Even though we have picked up a lot hopefully we just havent gone for quantity over quality

That was the worry at the Parade last off-season. Obviously need some ability among the incoming (naturally not all will make the grade) but think the coach is the biggest factor in it. Since the AFL-aligned clubs joined in, any club can turn it around in a single off-season if they get it right. From memory Westies and North were at or near bottom before winning the flag the following season.

Re: retirements and upcoming signings

Liddy is going to miss most of the season with an extremely severe case of ankle sydemosis sustained in a tackle at training.

Going in for surgery in a couple of weeks but apparently one of the worse cases the sports clinic has seen

Hearing this isn’t accurate bud .. Did hurt his ankle but no surgery required and will recommence training after Xmas
