Re: Cricket Commentators

From the vault, John Arlott on Kiwi Bob Cunis …

Bob couldn’t be described as medium pace because he wasn’t quick enough. But he couldn’t be called a spinner because he didn’t spin it.

At the end of a long’s day play, after several bottles of red wine, Arlott advised his listeners:

“And, as for Cunis, his bowling, like his name, was neither one thing nor the other.”

Re: PAFC 2024

No SANFL in AFL. Get out interloper. You don't belong here. Scum.

I'll reply with more as they come to mind.

Now you’re conflating issues, and also conflating what others have said to me.

Yep, I hate Port, but certainly no more than Norwood, and that hate pre-dated all the AFL stuff by decades.

After all the arrogance of Port over years, you expect people to go soft on them when, as an AFL identity or whatever they think they are these days because it all changes with the wind, they continually bomb out in finals and the coach is still there after 10 years? Poor Fos and Jack, their legacies are being trashed!

And to top it all off, that misplaced arrogance provides us with the Holy Grail of gems … 3 flags in 5 years? How’s that going? #-O

Seriously mate, be precious and play the victim if you want, and I truly sympathise with old school Port supporters (pre AFL), but your club is an AFL enterprise, and all those wonderful things that were the true Port Adelaide have long gone. I get it though, you want to fully support and defend your club.

Apparently it’s OK to use the usual old Bays stereotypes and jokes, but faark no, can’t come back the other way. I don’t care if you pull the old gays card, or all the GF loses, or the wife swapping 70s … it’s all good old fun and banter.

Despite all that, as with everyone else and all other clubs, if your actions require the piss to be taken, no-one is going to miss the opportunity.

Seriously, lighten up! O:)

With much love.

Re: BBL 23/24

Serious question... As someone who doesn't care for big bash, i've always wondered about the "passion levels" for following a team. Do you really care if the strikers lose? like you do if your footy teams lose, and when you go to the games are you going for a night out or you are genuinely there to support and care for the result?

Couldn’t give a rats toss bag, it’s not real cricket.

Re: Things that give you the sh1ts

I get it in a bunion on one foot, so the knuckle of my big toe.

It’s a very sharp pain through the middle of that joint rather than a dull ache. Walking is unbearable and even resting the foot on that side hurts. Believe me, you know when you have it.

Without preventative medication or treatment at early onset, the pain can last for days.

The worst was about 2 weeks the first time I got it. My wife told me I had gout, but I resisted going to see the doc. When I finally booked an appt, I was hobbling into his room and he said straight away without any further assessment, you’ve got gout. Because I left it so long it took a while for the medication to kick in.

In my case, early treatment stops a full onset, so I’ve learn’t to manage it these days. It’s caused by uric acid crystalising in a joint, so my doc advised to take aspirin whenever I start feeling it as it’s a blood thinner and helps. Some people can’t take aspirin as it can cause bleeding issues elsewhere, but for me it’s fine.
