Sorry to upset anyone but c’mon Davey, ton up and get through to Sydney!

I’m not a fan but I’d rather him opening than Harris, Bancroft or sacrificing Head’s #5 spot

Re: Ashes 2023

We sound a lot like the Poms on here, I admire them for the way they challenge us with their tactics. We are the hunted and we have too many easy test series on our home soil, we need these challenges to not be complacent.

I think it’s a wake up call to where we’re at, obviously we’re going to honour Warner’s farewell match but we need to be better at travelling.

I don’t think the selectors erred by not picking a specialised spinner, we failed with the bat, our batters were complacent thinking that they’ve scored their average so it’s time to take risks, we’ve been sucked in to bazball but I think it’s great for the game.

We were blessed with the great captains like Waugh, Ponting and Clarke who won matches off their own bat or decision making, we have the talent now but it’s all in their head, we have the best 11 cricketers in the country playing for us, Warner could be an exception but I struggle to find a better opening option

Re: Things that you don't understand

The Bond brothers threatening legal action against the Crows, Port and Variety Club for use of their image when in 2018 Shane at least seemed quite happy with it.
They'd have to be pretty hard up atm ,surely?
I couldn't imagine doing similar against a kids charity and my old club (not that they'd ever want this C grade hacks image on anything)
Remove the images and replace it with people who’d appreciate it, I would’ve thought it would have been an honour.

Re: Ashes 2023

So bazball is effective and sustainable against the number one team in the world. And still going to finish the series empty handed.
We would beat them 4-0 over here and the only the crap Sydney weather would prevent it being a whitewash
We were very lucky, outplayed for the majority of the sessions.

If they picked a team of the series I couldn’t see it being inundated with too many Aussies.

They had the better batters and the better bowlers, their keeper was more useful than ours too, the stumping wrecked him, won’t really matter as he’ll never have to go there again. He will come home and smash up the minnows like the rest of our downhill skiers

Re: Things that you rate!

Been hosting my kids and their partners every 2nd Sunday for usually a roast or the odd surf ‘n’ turf.

My youngest daughter wanted to change it up a bit yesterday and go with an Italian theme, it was a hit with cheesy meatballs, carbonara, some home made pizza’s and garlic bread.

We then decided we would go with a theme each fortnight from now on, complete with dressing to match the theme.

We’ve decided on Greek next fortnight, everyone is already on a mission to be the best dressed and no one was revealing their plans, it should be a fun afternoon.

We’ve also booked in a day where we’re going to get the risk board out for a marathon last person standing game, no doubt I’ll win but I think they’ll all gang up on me to wipe me out first.

I’ve never really understood the need to throw the ball in the air after a catch, I always just clenched it as I ran to the bowler and then released it to the umpire, I guess I was scared of doing something stupid like Stokes just did.

The fact another miserable English summer cost them the Ashes brings me no end of joy. F*ck them and their whinging supporters. Moral Ashes my arse.

Ben “I wouldn’t want to win a series that way” Stokes claiming a catch he knew he didn’t take. Wonderful cricketer, fair hypocrite though. 2-2 probably about right to be fair, was buggerall between the two sides.

Re: 2023 Adelaide footy League - Division 6

Watching some footage of Smithfield’s B Grade pre- match warm up yesterday is absolute gold, while doing some running on the spot there’s “Barbie Girl” playing in the background so all the players start dancing and singing to it, it’s been a loooong season for them and seeing their spirit in the final match of the season was simply epic.

Re: Things that you are looking forward to

My next chapter, I made a bold move yesterday to quit my job, money was great but the culture was terrible.

I was making inroads to changing it but someone above me kept coming through and destroying it, it got to the point where I was sad that I woke up each morning.

A toxic work place doesn't deserve someone like you mate. Good for you for making yourself the priority.
Thank you my friend, everything in life is an experience, some are good, some are bad, we learn from either type. I'll dust myself off and be up and running again soon, for the meantime I'll just keep singing the Willie Nelson classic "On the dole again, I can't wait to get on the dole again"

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews

Went to Spargo’s @ Prospect, I opened the door to let mum walk through then this suit fixated to his phone follows her in without acknowledgement so I politely said “thanks for letting me hold the door open for you”.

We both ordered the scotch fillet surf ‘n’ turf, mum got a cappuccino and I got a Coke Zero, funny enough the coffee was delivered and then two minutes later I get a can of Coke Zero and a straw….naturally I ask for a glass.

Both steaks were well done and a bit chewy, I got halfway through and then took it up to the counter and asked if they could explain what part is medium rare?

To their credit they remade my meal in a quarter of the time as the initial order and my steak was twice the size as the first one and cooked to perfection.

The place was superb last time I was there, seemed a bit lacklustre this time round, no rating but pleased that they fixed it up, for $42 you expect a decent steak.

Re: I need to know....

Only been there once for Livid Festival in the 90s but the first pub we went to after booking in had a sport name, Sporties or Sportsmans maybe. Wasn't til after a beer or two we realised it was a gay bar. Don't get sucked in by the name
Blue oyster bar?

Not quite ;)
True story
1997 Cox Plate boys trip
On the drink at the track since 11am, then on the town. One by one the group of 10 make their way back to the hotel in the early hours and I’m last man standing. Roughly 3am, I start making my way to the hotel & I spot a bar still open. Wander in & order a pot, “No tap beer, honey” he said. “Crown Lager then thanks”. Bar man comes back with a champagne glass with bubbles & a green tinge. “I know I’ve been on the sauce all day but that’s not a Crownie”.
Barman says “No it’s not, it’s a Midori & Champagne he bought it for you”, then points to a bloke at the end of the bar smiling at me. “You don’t know what sort of bar this is, do you?” I replied “I’ve got a fair idea now!” Barman said “You’ll be ok now”
I had another .

What about a drink?

All BS aside I’d rather see an Aussie band get the gig and the money saved go back into grassroots footy, massive waste of money for 4 songs.

It’s a sellout regardless and no one extra is going to view the entire game for 20 minutes of entertainment spread out over 3 hours in 3 short stints.

Sad to hear, mate. He had ability…
Yeah, I’m a bit broken, his Victorian record speaks in volumes, he was wasted over here running in races that weren’t his pet 1400m distance because we don’t have many of them, always carried the grandstand because of it.

I’ve learnt a bit about being in syndicates, I’ve been involved with two that have come well out in front, it’s a ruthless industry but at the end of the day I’m sure Lefty is going to live a good life after racing, he’s provided the forum with some great moments.

What a terrible series for Aus, lose Head for atleast half the WC, prove our depth is not very good, Zampa in terrible form. Ellis and Abbott with minor injuries.
My main concern is how have we led 2-0 in our past two series and not had the ability to deliver the final blow and win the series.

I think we lack integrity, there’s no way that this would happen under a Punter or Waugh regime.

Re: Brownlow 23 - who wins it

The media, coaches, supporters all get to see the stats during & post match to decipher who was best. The umpires don’t. Then people are outraged when the umpires seemingly get some voting wrong. What do people expect? We are setting them up to fail.

On the other hand, i think looking at the stats will mean the award will only be given to the top stats players, and will take away some votes to key defenders and key forwards.
It's broken, but looking at the stats won't fix it IMO unless they dive into disposal efficiency etc
It’s the Brownlow Medal, it’s selected by the umpires, always has been and always should be.

There are many other awards to be won throughout the industry based on opinion, wherever people rank the validity is up to the individual.

Well done Lachie Neale, there were about 5 players that were seemingly “robbed”, if you get the ball enough, show great sportsmanship and leadership along with your side winning a large amount of games, you are going to give yourself every opportunity to win the award.
