Re: Crows Disgrace

This topic is currently being discussed on SEN and they are all in agreement that this is a disgrace and its an indictment on the south australian football culture and sanfl

Hard to disagree

Re: SANFL crowd numbers

Laptop with my figures being serviced at the moment should have something done by this time next week.
PhilH for each average figure you present I would appreciate also seeing variance and median. If it's not too much trouble, natch.

(edit) and another thing ... perhaps any argument regarding crowd changes across 2013-2014 ought to consider games between the sovereign 8 clubs in each year, among other things.

I'd be happy to knock up a few scripts to automate the above; got a bit of time on my hands for programming projects. PM me if you like.

From my crowd figures I have before this year:
Year Average Median
1997 3219 2732
1998 3689 3196
1999 3195 2706
2000 2957 2800
2001 3106 2677
2002 3101 2489
2003 2890 2502
2004 2817 2653
2005 2743 2591
2006 2874 2684
2007 2867 2565
2008 3065 2762
2009 2924 2725
2010 3073 2885
2011 3201 2888
2012 2880 2507
2013 2622 2432
2014 2812 (from Phils' post, and since I don't have all figures he can fill in the median)

Edit: There is a difference in average for 2013 from what Phil has, it's because the SANFL Annual Report differs from figures sometimes in the newspaper). I have changed some of mine to the Annual Report. It may also have happened in previous years too if this is the case before.

So for everyone hailing this as a great result, the average crowd numbers for 2014 are higher than 2 of the previous 17 years.

That leaves 2 trains of thought:

1) If this is such a success it really does show how irrelevent the competion is becoming or;
2) Some supporters have definitely been lost and there have been a few replacementents, what remains to be seen is if these replacements will be long term (especially goven Walker wont play every year etc)

Re: Kumar Sangakkara

I'll put it out there, I love watching this bloke bat. He's smooth, crafty, but can up the pace when needed.

Today he became the first person to score 4 consecutive One Day International 100's. Achieved, no less, in a World Cup. As I type, he's 124 off 92 balls.
So far this tournament, he has 483 runs at 161 from 6 innings*

He also notched up his 400th ODI earlier this World Cup.With over 14,000 ODI runs at 41, striking those at a R/R of 79.

In Test match cricket he has 12,200+ at 58! 58!

Combined he has 62 hundreds in these forms of the game, 144 50's. Throw in nearly 600 catches ( 400 ODI, 178 Test ) and 119 stumpings (99/20 ).

26,000+ runs and nearly 700 dismissals at ODI and Test level.

While Adam Gilchrist revolutionized the way a 'keeper batsman plays the game, I ask this. Is Sangakkara the the best 'keeper batsman to play the game?

Discuss.

Is all class and what is fantastic about his test record is that he doesn't average under 40 against any opposition, averages 69.6 when captain and 69.35 when not keeping - so as a sole batsmen his record would be the best since bradman

Re: Greyhound racing banned in NSW from 1st July 2017

For me this is a very short sighted, easy decision.

$90 million is generated by the greyhound industry in NSW back to the state government. This money will no longer be generated.

10,000 people are employed by the industry (through direct and indirect employment). obviously this will increase unemployment and welfare payments.

If the NSW government don't need the $90 million and the health and safety of the dogs is their priority, what should happen is this.

the $90million per year should do this.

1) Employ a greater number of stewards and investigators to actually try and punish the offenders, not the entire industry

2) Build some expansive retirement kennels for all the greyhounds which aren't taken in the Greyhound adoption program. This will mean more builders are employed and once the kennels are up and running more people will be employed to ruin the kennels.

Doing the above will achieve so many great outcomes for everyone (except those who do do the wrong thing, or those with ulterior motives) basically better animal protection and more jobs

1) More employment with the new stewards and investigators
2) Saves up to 10,000 industry jobs
3) Creates more infrastructure projects through the building of the retirement kennels
4) Creates more jobs through staffing the retirement kennels
5) Less live baiting/animal cruelty with the extra scrutiny of the new stewards and investigators
6) No deaths of the dogs that are apparently slaughtered due to not being fast enough
7) As more dogs are alive more vets, dog food etc is needed so that will create more jobs in the economy

Re: Preliminary Final teams.

Luke Powell, WWT football boss, confirmed they approached SANFL staff about the extra man but could not arrange a message to the captain before the extra player came off the ground.
Then as the rules state nothing can become of it. The rule says that the captain or acting captain has to make the call to the on-field umpire.

the rules also stated at the time that the match is complete when the umpire hears the siren.

the AFL commission overruled in that instance and made the appropriate rule amendments, so i dont see why the same cant happen here

Re: Prelim Final - Adelaide v Norwood

It’s actually embarrassing how easily the umpires have been manipulated here

A couple of words in the press and the rule book completely gone
