Re: Junior Football

Also having seen a lot of 18 reds this year I'd be fascinated to learn it's strength relative to yellow. People involved with red are certain it's much stronger, but I guess they would be!
I guess it's all relevant to how many over aged players are in any one particular side also.
Don't like the over age rule myself.
Big gap from a lad turning 17 and lad turning 19 in the same year.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 4 - 2015

I would like to think I have a decent grasp of this, having been part of a team for 11 seasons that has fluctuated solely between Division 3 and 4. I can say the gap is very significant. Talent alone can get you through some games in Div 4, it just doesn't happen in Div 3. You are made to work your ass off for every win (Kilburn 2014 aside). We have had a side with quality that has not differentiated that much between 2005-2014, in that period we have not made the finals in Div 3, but not missed the finals in Div 4.

Any team who finished mid-table in Div 4 would be mad to go up IMO. Plympton won a Div 4 GF by 20-goals in 2013 and couldn't make the finals in Div 3, any side who finished 3-4 places lower in Div 4 would struggle to win a game in Div 3.

Marbles is off his rocker.

They were given more than enough time to meet requirements.

The requirements are a joke. They have enough for 1 team that should be enough for a club to survive.

Re: CH9AFL DIvision 4 2016

Probably should've been a requirement for Para Hills this year at least - every man and his dog knew they were in a tough position with players leaving

When a club is in denial, saying "yeah, we'll be fine" after being offered a spot in d7 and then come looking to drop a week out from the season proper, there's not much you can do.
Bollocks.. The league has the power to investigate matters for what ever reason e.g. if I post on here some outrageous incident from a game, I'm sure the powers that be would be knocking on our clubs door asking for a please explain... therefore when all the talk in the off season is about players leaving, surely the league should've approached PH and when the club denies allegation's saying "yeah, we'll be fine" they turn and say "PROVE IT"..

A quick count of the Ins / outs - and the quality of them combined with who'd registered would've shown that they were in the shit.

Why play silly buggers in rd1?
As Zarts stated there were no silly buggers played.
Only silly buggers I saw were players trying to handball and kick to their team mates from both sides.
Chuck in the deplorable spectacle of watching football at Fitzroy and that just topped off a cracking day's play.
TAB got my money as well.

Surely Zarts could have got you a Guest pass to the elevated coaches box?

You no Arch, that idea came from Charlie!!! :D

I say this without being bashed, but who wrote the law about socialising with the enemy post game. Nice to catch up and have a frothy, that I get, but you get belted by 40 goals and you are scum cos you don't spend a buck in the bar of your opposition. It's a mandatory with our club but you just went in to your opposition teams club and gave them more money to pay the guy you are having a beer with who kicked 10 on you.

Great to build relationships between clubs but seriously? WTF

I think it's poor form if you don't go in and be an ambassador for your club, I love hearing how other clubs operate and perusing the club photo's and history.

awful imo..our leagues historical promotion/relegation system is changed in 3 divisions so 2 SFL clubs can come in..non member clubs getting preference over member clubs..they should have to wait until natural openings occur..

I can understand that if you're a club in D4/D5/D6 who this could potentially affect your nose would be a little out of joint.

On the other hand, the introduction of two strong clubs into the League, will, after getting over the anomaly of their introduction, be for the benefit of the League as a whole.

one of the potential new clubs left the league to seek glory elsewhere..like edwardstown did..now they get welcomed back with the red carpet laid out and long serving loyal member clubs get shafted! /rant_over

Reading the last 4 pages makes me want to throw up. So all us loyal SAAFL clubs get stuffed around and have less chance of a little bit of success, but more chance of being demoted, just to accommodate 2 SFL teams. And One that left our comp, but now wants to come back. So glad i have worked my ass off since October to try and succeed.
Leave em in SFL or start in div 7. Why should we suffer.

and the last 3 times this has occurred, 8th stayed put. Only difference now is new clubs are coming in. So we just cop it sweet
S Demon that is the wrong attitude(cop it sweet my arse)you should be fighting tooth and nail to stay up over these johnny come latelys. You know how hard we fought to get to Div 4 and shouldn't be forced to go down. Hope the Valleys lead the charge to have these new clubs start in 6 or 7 and earn their promotions like everyone else has had to do.Imo the league is trying to get too big and are forgetting the clubs who built and stabilised the great competition we have.

Re: New Clubs for 2017

Why? we play bad, we get relegated. 2 clubs would go down under any other circumstance and no one should rest on the fact that there were only 9 teams this year.

Sure, it's going to suck to be relegated after all the hard work Charlie and Stevo put in over the years, hell, even poor Bob would be pulling his hair out if he had any trying to get these blokes playing some decent footy - but you gotta take the hand you're dealt.

*disclaimer* - i'm pretty sure i dont' speak for the rest of the club here.
Well Lisa if I was still coaching Hope Valley I would be knocking on the HVFC committee and Saafl doors and demanding we stay in Div 4. I think it's very ordinary that new clubs can apply to affiliate and jump over the top of loyal clubs.Hope valley wouldn't be relegated if para hills played in 2016.Let them start in Div6 where ttg and modbury did and look where they are now. They should do the hard yards like we did at hope valley to climb the grades not be given a gold pass

Re: New Clubs for 2017

im agree with that bloke above that 8th place being relegated in unfair and is a direct consequence caused by the failure of para hills to stay on its feet. the div 4 clubs have been through enough as it is due to their fallout and now tidal waves are still occurring from their departure and are still hurting fellow clubs

on the other hand one could be ruthless and say well youve been below average in this higher grade this year, 8th place no glorious season, we have new major infrastructure to be built here for the long term excellence of the whole league and you and your 8th place need to get out the way

for your argument however, if para hills were still in this division and there were 10 teams, how do you think the league would be instead approaching the entrance of the new clubs. would 3 teams just be relegated anyway?

If you stick Brighton in D6 you're handing them about 3 gold passes in the way of easy premierships.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

Agree with TT. Brighton would still have to go and win and earn their spot in Div3. Not necessarily a gold pass to 3 flags because anything can happen over a 3 year period, even in 1 year. Ask Rosewater.

Re: New Clubs for 2017

I've always thought the South/North system discriminates against Central clubs :p

Too true in 1995 & 96 we were in the A5 North and in 97 in the D8 South it was a complete Joke.

In 95 we copped 3 strong CDFA clubs coming in A Grade against C Grade we got flogged only won 2 games for the season & the D Grade managed to win the flag. A5 South was mainly made up of C & D Grade teams
Remained in the same Grade the following season which was mostly made up of C & D Grade teams and won the flag in both comps.

No Point bringing brighton into the comp at D6 level it achieves nothing for them or the comp.

All teams that have started in D6 since in 84 were correctly placed except for TTG, Modbury, West Lakes, Walkerville & Hectorville (Norwood Districts)
All the rest were new clubs that have either since folded or have gone no higher than D4 at best.

Easy to say from a club in Div 3 or higher. It doesn't effect you where they come in. Us lower clubs suffer to accommodate 2 SFL teams. Absolute crap.

Re: Adelaide Footy League D7 - 2017

Para Hills were not that impressive at all Central United will be favourites in round 1
PAC should be Premiership favourites what I seen of them last week well in front of Para Hills

I think Para Hills will be Favourites as they still had at least 5 or 6 players not playing yesterday, with most them being their starting midfield. It is hard to gauge trial form when you are playing Teams from different Leagues and different grades. Border Districts are a very good team and a lot higher than dIV 7 standard. Our biggest problem is finding a match up for Number 1 the way he moved reminded me of someone I knew 20 years ago. (3 Goals) Wouldn't have believed what i was seeing I had not witnessed it with my own eyes. :)

Wouldn't think you'd have to worry about him 2 cheap ones over the back are misleading. You may have been drunk hence your eyes misleading you, Or delirious from standing next to Fenwick talking about Fenwick and how good Fenwick was on Friday night........ ;)

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

The old adage of 3 or more trial matches is outdated and is a legacy of a time when pre-season would commence around Australia Day and trial matches were part of the pre-season fitness program. With the Adelaide 500 followed by the Adelaide Cup long weekend (that moved to March about 10 years) most trials on those weekends seem to get the same response "a waste of time". We have settled for 2 trials in recent years which we are doing again this year with trials on 18 & 25 March.

Yes, eight team comp - 14 Games, Then 3 more games against teams that are in the same 1/2 of the ladder that you are in after the 14 games- 17 Games for the season in Total.
Top 4 or top 5 finals series?

Geez you'd be pissed if you were sitting in 4th spot after 14 rounds by a single win, then have to play the top 3 sides while 5th place gets the bottom 3!

The 3 extra games should be the 4 Northern teams play each other and the 4 Southern teams play each other, a bit fairer on 4th spot.

I know it's along way from finals and who votes on it but according to the poll on here the top 4 may consist of 2 Northern teams and 2 Southern teams, seems fair for everyone.
Although I don't know why 28 people have picked the Lions, They've only won a few games in the last 5 years.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 7 - 2018

Whose idea was this? And for what reasons?

Seems an odd call to me. The strong get stronger.

It's because C/D grades are in our comp, who have been able to field 7 on the bench for a while now. Thus it is extended to all teams competing.

TBH, it's probably not much fun for coaches juggling rotations, but it allowed us give a few more a game this week.

I can certainly understand why it would come in for the B grades, but my opinion is that the A grade should be limited to 21 players.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 2 - 2018

Have the League made a decision at this stage in regards to Salisbury North's points? Are they put back to zero and therefore only one other side will be relegated or have they not made any decisions around this at this stage.

If only one other side is going to be relegated massive game this week between GG & Iggies!!

There's probably more pressing issues to deal with right now, like the rules for clearances, as we approach June 30.

I believe the league is seeking member clubs input as to whether they allow internal transfers and if so, how many per club etc...

Would have thought it was fairly simple.
Player points apply.
As many as they want can go to the same club, however SN have the right to refuse clearances after the third to any one club.
Not sure what scenario would need new rules to apply.

This is stupid. Bedge has actually made some very sensible comments which I won't repeat.

On top of that why the hell should they change transfer rules just for this.

Another problem is there is an appeal tonight internally within the league and then potentially an appeal outside the league after.

One example of the harm this has done is the retirement of Andrew Ross. Fair and talented player, this ends his career. This fiasco has become completely unfair to players who have done nothing wrong far beyond whatever may be arguably justified to keep the league safe.
