Glenelg 3 wins

Ironically Centrals lost that GF

When you say 'ironically', do you mean:

1. By a tragic coincidence
2. By an exceptional coincidence
3. By a curious coincidence
4. By a coincidence of no importance
5. Oddly enough
6. Oh hell! I've run out of words to start a sentence with

Nice of her "friend" to post it online  These influencers need to cut each other down. It's tough out there.
Influencers, now that's something that makes me laugh.

The only time I've ever been influenced is by the "Jack Lives Here" campaign, got me into drinking JD. The some people drink Hahn Premium Light to be responsible adds (girl sits on beanbag by pool, guy jumps from first floor onto beanbag & launches her into the pool or the girl draws love heart in the sand, guy turns it into a set of boobs) got me drinking light beer for a while (being a truck driver have to make sure I'm under the limit next day).

What a rabble

Last man out please turn off the lights!

I'd rather the CEO be vacant rather than have Liddle in that spot.

CEO - Cook
Coach - Clarkson or Pyke
List Manager - SOS

We're not as bad as I thought - Sayers is sorting the wheat from the chaff. Liddle gone (good riddance IMO) which opens a new era for us. Stability off field is what we're screaming for and we have a chance to get it right. I'm hoping we get it right.

Thanks Lads

Well done to Corona Man on the scoring updates throughout the day. It made my boring day at work somewhat meaningful.

I'm not sure what I'll do with the trophy, but I'm making space for it right now. Please send it through in due course.

I'll be back next year to choke haphazardly into 8th spot.

Re: T20 World Cup 2021

I didn't expect Australia to win but to put up a better performance than they did. Utterly embarrassing to see fairly average bowlers in Woakes Jordan Livingstone destroy us. Any movement off the pitch and Warner is useless...Maxwell can't bat in the first 10 overs..I think Finch is cooked..Not playing Marsh who was up until the last match our best t20 bat.

I would make changes

Marsh has to come in, if Stoinis isn't bowling he can go out.
Starc is injured/ peahearted bring in Richo
Not sure Cummins is a great t20 bowler either, maybe swap with Swepson as a 3rd spinner option
Warner can piss off but no one to replace him either
I am no Agar fan but he probably stays in scoring a run a ball 20 and taking 1 wicket...what a performance

I can claim to not watch one second of any international T20 but really? Peahearted?

Wow, that is a huge claim on a tier 1 international bowler.

That makes 3 Australian test players in 3 days

I was just saying to the missus, I can understand people having a midlife crisis. You grow up as a kid with these people you hold so close yet far away from you in such high regard. You look up to them, you want to be them, you listen to them, you follow them, yet as we get older, they also grow older and before we know it they're gone. Graham Kennedy, Don Lane, Don Bradman, Lou Richards, Bert Newton, Serg Silvangi (for me), and the list goes on and on.

It's a fact of life but it's still really hard to get your head around.

RIP great ones!

The obvious question - why are you asking? My son has been given out LBW twice in two weeks so he's all over the rules!

Just saw some cricket briefly and thought that rule about pitching outside of leg would have been written a long time ago, before the reverse shots were a thing - Wouldn't playing a reverse shot negate it somewhat?

Nup. Leg side is determined by whatever you commence your stance in.

Re: Punters Club - Drawing Stumps

$1627.54 left which in my calculations works out at $70.76 each share.
So we're up $10.76 per share, better than bank interest!

Will await instructions from JK before I deposit it all back to Dutchy for distributions, might take a few days to go through that process.

IMHO Make it $70 each and put the leftover $17.54 towards a couple of beers for JK, its been fun!

I'm happy to just call it 60 and do exactly what you mention about the beers for JK and even yourself Wegs for using your account. Well organised JK, good fun and zero harm done!

Re: 2022 Adelaide Footy League - Division 4

That was always Kernanhan's goal when he started. Div 1 full of old scholar teams. Points & salary cap is purely for their benefit

Except that was the Community Football League.

It is an interesting result that measures brought in by the CFL to save country leagues from themselves are having this by-product though.

Yeah, its a fair point. i was chatting to the footy director of Kersbrook over the weekend and he was saying that he cant remember it ever being this difficult to recruit players to country footy and that is being felt by alot of clubs in their league. Those that are holding to the cap are often losing players to metro clubs who can offer similar coin and far less travel.

Given how long we're into APPS/TPPS it's probably worthwhile the SANFL and CFL taking time to zoom out a bit and examine whether they are working as intended.

Feels as if a great degree of effort has gone into tinkering with the edges to try and achieve the perceived purpose of each, but a deeper philosophical review of, what are we trying to achieve, and is this the way to achieve it might be due.

What's this? Someone asking for a holistic view of how things are run in the state? Poppyc*ck!

Na, I'm with ya Jo. In all seriousness, these decisions are made in isolation without any thought of the after, or flow on effects. The SANFL league can't survive being a second tier comp to the AFL with the current rules in play. We've seen many teams lose players to Ammo's and country because of the reasons stated here and elsewhere. Till someone lifts their glasses and views beyond the horizon, the SANFL will be stuffed.

I see the SANFL as a fork in the road for players of the calibre who would normally be good enough to play SANFL but not AFL standard. Should I stick around with my SANFL club and ply my trade, getting mediocre money, having to work full time (and possibly jepoardising my living by playing footy) and train several times a week or should I go and play a lower level, train twice to three times a week and have a successful career? Most are sticking with the SANFL, but for how long?

Those that see the SANFL as a stepping stone for AFL will definitely stay but all it will take is some players to be taken from Hope Valley (for instance) straight to the AFL and players will realise you don't need to play for the SANFL clubs to get drafted. That could start the exodus. I hope I'm wrong.

Re: Things that you rate!

On the weekend I was having a few slight issues with my Fitbit, where it was not responding when tapping it. Then if I did and it did respond, it might 'flash' rather than hold the screen's details.

By yesterday it was showing a 101. Googling it told me that this was pretty serious. I got on the live chat with Fitbit, we went through the restart process and he determined that it wasn't going to recover. He said that I'd had the device since 09/2019 and instead of showing me the virtual door, he said that I could have a replacement for free or 50% off a new device.

^ That's customer service!

I certainly didn't go on there expecting a new device. I did think it would be recoverable or at worst, 'sorry bud, it's jacked'. Now I get an early Christmas present.

Re: Which grade clubs should go?

I'm a dad of a 12 yo lad who is slowly progressing through the bottom ages of district cricket, albeit through development squads.

He is an average kid in an average grade - and I'm not being defamatory about either, just saying he's not a star by all means. But what I've seen by way of tryouts and development squads makes me think that the top level is suffering because of the junior system underneath.

To be honest, I don't thing there is any 'development' at all. He is in a development squad and what I have seen is the coaches say "good shot" in the nets but nothing about technique, nothing about poor shot selection, nothing about building innings, nothing about partnerships, nothing about putting pressure on the bat by bowling consecutive maiden overs. Maybe that will come as he progresses. I don' t know. All I know is that when I speak to other district clubs at the same age group, all the parents say the same thing, it's very ordinarily managed. At our club, there is a disconnect between the development squad and the coaches at the next level. So when my son was selected at the next level, there wasn't any consideration for his batting position, fielding position, bowling position.

So, in summary, SACA need to install a policy/guideline about how the coaches need to 'coach' as a group. We as parents sit back and look at the juniors and then look at how SACA perform and marry the two up. It's disgracefully organised and shows through the grades right up to SACA level.

I should say that opposition clubs have called out a couple of clubs that have been exemplary in their organisation but unfortunately this isn't the norm.

I should add, before my son started trying out for district, i was of the same mind, that teams need to merge. Now, I'm not so sure that will fix anything.

Re: Australian International Summer (The Ashes) 2021/22

So what WILL make them bowl the overs in time? Clearly the fines didn't change things from the first test. What is the next step in the penalty ladder? I'm not in favour of penalty runs because teams will counter that by not bowling their overs on purpose, like today when they are under pressure.

I say, bowl the overs. Make them stay out there (light permitting). That way the batsman know how many overs they'll face in a day, rather than guess.

It's become farcical. I've said it before but test cricket is dying. FFS, do SOMETHING.....

Re: Things that you are looking forward to

Well the wife and I have been living separately for some time now and I was trying to get through to the new year and then break it off, it's difficult as we generally get along pretty well and it's neither of our faults that we aren't living together.

After copping a barrage of shit on Sunday then not hearing from her til yesterday as she asked me if I'm still going to her work show on Saturday it was time to pull the pin on us, I tried to be as diplomatic as possible and I just felt the time is right as I'm falling in a hole with this situation.

I get into work today and was asked if I want a corporate box ticket for the cricket Saturday, I feel somewhat guilty and they've allowed me until tomorrow to accept it but bloody hell, it will do me a world of good as I feel really lousy as a person yet I'm doing the right thing for both of us.

I hadn't even told anyone at work, I don't bring my personal life to work.

Wow, I'd be taking the opportunity to go in a heartbeat. Enjoy it! Sounds like you need a day away from life.

Re: Asthma

As a kid, I was a shocking asthmatic. Died once (no joke, stopped breathing and heart stopped in a doctors surgery, resuscitated in hospital luckily). At the time I got told that I was lucky I was fit otherwise I wouldn't have made it.

That's lead me on a course of trying to stay as fit as possible - not always possible given injuries, age, etc. So I think I can talk from experience. Anyway....

Asthma is tough. My son was 1 when he was suffering symptoms of what I thought was asthma. Turned out, he would only get asthma after getting sick - ie a head cold. That's not typically 'asthma'. Despite my son going through the 120 breaths per minute on the way to the Womens and Childrens, I sided with the doctors to start with when they treated him with asthma medication but said he wasn't asthmatic. I remember pleading with the doctors (stupidly) to put him on asthma preventative as we had him admitted maybe 9 times over the course of a winter. Now I look back and say the doctors were right in saying that he wasn't asthmatic. We pushed them into allowing him to have preventative, wrongly.

Asthma can be triggered by random things. For me, as a kid it was triggered by fruit cup cordial - I was the only one allowed milk at kindy. I found out years later that it was the preservatives in the cordial that did it. Still to this day, it does. Having a bourbon and coke in a premix does it too. Cut grass used to do it for me as well. Pollen does it too. What this results in, is breathing 'up and down'. Not necessarily just shortness of breath (hence your doctor possibly saying you need your heart checked). That sounds odd but if you watch yourself breath, you breath with your chest, 'in and out'. Breathing up and down means you are heaving for air, even standing still. Your diaphragm moves up and down rather than in and out. Traditional medication alleviates the need to breath up and down and returns you to breathing - in and out.

As you can see from above, this didn't equate with a trigger that my son suffered from. He used to take ventolin on occasion but has weened himself off. During illnesses he still gets chest issues - Croup which leads to asthma type symptoms but not asthma itself.

So in short, go with the specialists. It doesn't sound like you've got asthma. But ultimately it doesn't matter whether you've got it or not, as long as you're treated according to your symptoms and you get relief.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Re: Australian International Summer (The Ashes) 2021/22

Four changes to the Poms

England XI: Haseeb Hameed, Zac Crawley, Dawid Malan, Joe Root (c), Ben Stokes, Jonathan Bairstow, Jos Buttler (wk), Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson, Jack Leach, Jimmy Anderson

Out Broad, Pope, Burns and Woakes

In Bairstow, Crawley, Wood and Leach

In Bairstow (no good), Crawley (no good), Wood (good, should've played last test but obviously couldn't bowl part time offies so got left out) and Leach (no good)\

For us, Boland...no good but will be good enough to take 7fa in this game if given the chance. That's how badly I rate their batting line up.

Re: Australian International Summer (The Ashes) 2021/22

The declaration was fine. Our fielding wasn't and England fought very hard yesterday. There was plenty of time to bowl them out. It's extremely reactionary to point the finger in hindsight and slag off Langer or Cummins. England deserve credit for fighting it out. Crawley, Root, Stokes, Bairstow, Leach and Broad all fought every hard for Australia to earn their wickets. It was a quantum leap from Melbourne so credit where credit was due.

It also seems a few bowlers on both sides were running on fumes late in the match. Starc in particular looks like he could do with a spell and I reckon Wood for the Poms looks reasonably cooked as well. Even Cummins had some flat spells. It's a pretty tight squeeze this series and it can't be easy to back up again and again with no rest days or tour matches in between.

regards,

REB

Do you think the declaration was fine....I disagree, I think the old you need 90-100 overs is a bit old hack thinking. These days when a team settles in for a draw its real real hard to bowl them out with a big reason being a tails ability to hold an end up. Tailenders have never been more equipped with bat in hand and that needs to be factored into modern day declarations.

We never needed 400 runs. At most we should have set 350 especially with the threat of rain that existed.

Would be nice to see Australia under Cummins be more aggressive in their declarations especially with the test championship a factor and the series locked away. Albeit I doubt big time that a declaration is a one or two many decision these days. I imagine captain/vice captain/ coach/ a couple of data analysts are all involved in reaching the total/time.

I also think this pitch wasn't a traditional Sydney, nor traditional 5th day pitch. It didn't look like it was a day 1 pitch on day 1. It looked greener than normal, so I would've erred on the side of caution, declaring the first dig after Usman got out, then give yourself more time for the rest of the game to work things out. And complicating things was the rain in Sydney too.

But sheesh, it's easy from here to say what I would've done.

Re: BBL 21/22

I will repeat
No Test Squad players = about 14 unavailable for BBL
Covid means that Brisbane and Melbourne stars have virtually had to play their second elevens
Half a dozen English players have left to prepare for a series against the West Indies

The BIGgest example of how the BBL has been raped and ravaged this season is Mitchell Marsh
Killing them in the BBL, now is in the Test squad and is playing no where

This sport is for the new generation and fills up seats
The people that go to these games are passionate supporters
Its a competition with finals, thats why it works

Its good entertainment , its better than most TV shows on at the same time

I'm a cricket tragic. In the past few days I've watched Sth Africa v India, Australia v England and NZ v Bangladesh test matches. But I like watching a contest, rather than players playing on a road with a tennis racquet on a postage stamp sized ground.

So it's a 'no' from me.

The Langer saga has bigger implications throughout cricket and sport. If you as a player whinge and complain and have enough conspirators, you can remove a good/great coach/leader. I don't think CA realise that by following this lead, it sets the example at local level/junior level. In this instance, the dog waggeth the tail and it sets a really bad precedence for cricket throughout the country.

Re: AFLW 2022

I enjoy watching it, they have a red hot dip but I do think scoring is important. People want to see goals scored and I think increased goals means increased credibility.

I personally think the skills has increased a lot it’s game awareness that hasn’t. Too many panic possessions but that will come .

Agree, I wonder if the panicky possessions is due to the speed of the game and strength of the girls increasing each year under another year of professional training.

At a guess I wonder if the physical attributes of the game are increasing at a far great rate then the mental/education part of the game.

Far easier to get someone to bench 20kg heavier or box jump 20cm higher than it is to 'teach' football.

Spot on. And if these girls/women are like the girls/women at my club, they haven't had a football under their arm since aged 4 like my son has. They adopted the game much later. In comparison my daughter had never kicked a football till she was 12. So they're coming from a long way behind. For most of them to be at such a high standard at such an immature time for the sport I think is admirable.

Heard him speak on Saturday at a lunch, riveting bloke to listen too. It's no coincidence that Geelong are top of the table since he's been CEO. ;)
I like the idea, it would mean a more even distribution of talent in state leagues and possibly make teams like the Power and Crows reserves redundant,

That would be great. Could be going into a grand final and lose 4 players to another club.

The Bond Store has been a great addition to the town IMO.

Check out the schnitzels at the Prince Edward or the Weeroona if you have time.

Re: Admission prices

$12-14 would be fair. Crowd numbers have been on the slide for a few years now, so give people an incentive to get back to the footy.

The steep price increase in the digital pass was also disappointing (yes the overall product has improved though)

Despite being an avid blues supporter since I was about 4, I don't find myself wanting to go the SANFL. I'd rather go to my local ammo club, where it's free and the beers and food are cheap.

I liken the SANFL pricing to the SAJC. Both should be free.

Re: Collingwood

Lumumba is just a very angry bloke.
Kraks not happy with what happened in the past either but a lot calmer with his message.

Again, what do they want?
The club has done everything it can to address the past and apologized unreservedly.
Do they want compo, then step up and say just that, then put this to bed once and for all.

You can't change past history so I've no idea why it keeps getting dragged up.

Wasn't Krak welcomed back to the club by Eddie in the last few years? To help promote his speaking tour? Or have I misunderstood? I thought Collingwood did everything they could to wrap their arms around Krak.

Re: AFL Round 7

List manager who has been in the job over 20 years and still can’t select a balanced list or one capable of of any success but is pretty much unsackable. A CEO who calls out the players for a pathetic showing only to issue a apology an hour later and who also meddles in coaching and recruitment whilst sacking anyone who doesn’t agree with him. A fitness team responsible for the unfittest team in the comp and the most soft tissue injuries in the league. A club who will happily spend $$$ on advertising and throwing money at useless media emails etc but didn’t start recruiting for our reserves team until 2 weeks before the start of the season hence they are almost dead bottom too. We are more interested in making money than winning games of football but the board secretly has been eroding members powers over the last 4-5 years so much so that the members can’t even vote the clowns off

That was Cain Liddle. He meddled in trades (basically promised Ellis from Richmond a trade without discussing it with SOS, our list manager), telling the membership base one thing and then contradicting himself or others in the club the next minute. The mixed messages we received from the club made us wonder who was in charge and what the hell they were doing as a professional organisation.

He also did the same as you suggest, and got rid of anyone who disagreed with him. A horrible situation for anyone working there.

Now that's being tidied up we can start concentrating on on field results.

Re: AFL - Sir Doug Nicholls Round 10

150th game for Ben Brown this weekend, against his old side.
Still can't believe North put him up for trade but it's turned out very well for him being a premiership player and playing in a successful and dominant team.

THE most stupid thing any club has done over the past 20 years.

Clubs scream for big forwards. He has one off year - from memory his wife miscarried - and he had injuries and he get jettisoned out of the place. Craziness.
