Re: Ashes 2023

Australia with a 1st innings lead of 12 but dare i say it a fair bit behind in the game.
I'd expect England to go on and win this comfortably. The Australian batting just hasn't fired all series. As good as Head has been at times i don't think i've ever seen a top order bat look like he's gonna get out so much. I'd expect Australia to be chasing over 300 to win and it's hard to see them achieving that.
Time will tell obviously

Re: Great Southern Football League

Round 14 guesses

E Bay by 46 over Yank
Victor by 78 over GPE
Myp/Sel by 16 over McLaren
Compass by 28 over Strath
Willunga by 34 over Creek

Bays got the job done over Yank by 22 points who have become a lot more competitive in recent times which is good to see.

Well GPEs huge 8 goal win over Compass only 3 rounds ago is all but a distant memory after copping consecutive hidings, this time at the hands of Victor to the tune of 156 points

Myp/Sell took a step further towards securing the double chance by demoralizing ladder leaders McLaren by 47 points who are showing some worrying signs in recent times but barring a complete meltdown will still be fronting up in the 2nd Semi Final so still have plenty of time to get their mojo back.

Compass after holding a comfortable 5 - 6 goal lead for most of the match survived a last quarter charge by Strath to hang on by only 4 points which will go a long way to securing their finals spot.

Well the mild surprise of the round came at the Creek who took care of a listless Willunga by 21 points to keep their slim finals chances alive whilst Willungas double chance hopes are almost gone. I didn't give the Creeks much hope, lining up without 7 - 8 1st choice players and then things got worse after half time losing their 2 key forwards in Mitch Cleggett and Clifford both to injury but Willunga still couldn't take advantage as they struggled to score. Clifford dominated up forward in the 1st half setting the win up with 5 goals and such was his dominance and impact on the game was still named 2nd best for the Creeks despite only playing half a game

How quickly things change, a few weeks ago Willunga and McLaren probably would have been favored to play off for the flag but now it seems Myp/Sell and Victor would be faves on form. In what has been a topsy turvy season so far i'm sure the trend will continue in coming weeks and into finals with injuries and availability of players the key to clubs hopes.

Re: Great Southern Football League

Round 15 guess

1st up Creek v Compass - If Creek lose today the Top 5 is set. Even if Creek win it's still hard to see them get in as the % gap is like another win.
Creeks apart from losing key forward Cleggett with injury from last week to join their handful of season ending injured players on the side lines it's as good a team the Creeks will have for the rest of the season. Creeks got home in a close encounter against the Dogs earlier in the season and may just repeat that result again by a goal or 2. Creeks by 11 points

E Bay v Myp/Sell - Well the Mudlarks just scraped in against the Bays earlier in the season and wont want to take them lightly here as they aim to finish the season off with 4 wins and steal top spot from McLaren if they slip up. Mudlarks by 23 points

GPE v Strath - Strath who were well in contention for a finals spot at the half way mark of the season are on a 5 game losing streak but should snap that today against an injury ravaged GPE team. Strath by 68 points

McLaren v Victor - Should be a cracker with plenty riding on it. McLaren will ensure the Minor Premiership if they win whilst Victor need the win to maintain the double chance. On recent form one would have to go for Victor. Victor by 14 points

Willunga have really struggled to kick goals in recent weeks and have put their double chance hopes in severe doubt. Would be a major shock if they dont get over Yank in this one who have improved immensely in recent times tho so may well be a lot closer than some think? Willunga by 32 points

Re: Great Southern Football League

Goolwa , yank…. Bays shot themselves in the foot…+++. Looking forward to your summary of that round JJ

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well i got 5 from 5 although the margins were a bit out which isn't surprising with some of the fluctuations in form is the last month

I'm still trying to fathom GPE form of the last 6 weeks :?
Rd 10 Lost by 14 points to Yank
Rd 11 WON by 48 points against Mt Compass  How ? Just HOW ?????
Rd 12 Lost by 40 points to Myp/Sell which is nothing to be ashamed of at all. Good effort
Rd 13 Lost by 153 points to E Bay
Rd 14 Lost by 156 points to Victor
Rd 15 Lost by 193 points to Strath
Yes it's apparent they have a heap of injuries by reports which is very unfortunate. It looks like they must have lost their top 10 best players between Rd 11 and 13 to explain those results. Maybe they have ? Mad Monday cant come quick enough it seems

Creeks kept their slim finals hopes alive downing Compass by 7 points in a low scoring scrap in perfect conditions where scoring was inexplicably hard to come by. Compass led 3 goals to zip at quarter time to which the Creeks had leveled at 3 apiece by half time. Creeks gradually got on top in the 3rd term and hung on in the last to hold off Compass who did all the attacking in the last 10 minutes. Creeks would have been kicking themselves if they'd lost after missing 4 set shots from basically right in front inside 15 metres during the match
Compass still very likely to hold 5th spot being a win and a good % ahead of the Creek. Both teams play VH and Myp/Sell whilst Creek play GPE and Compass play E Bay in the other game. Only certain win among that lot are Creeks to eat GPE. Going on the trend if Creek did have a 150+ point win against GPE as others are having that % gap could be caught. Big game this week for Compass against the Bays

Looking at the Bays v Myp/Sell scores Bays kicked themselves out of it by kicking 6 -15 to 3/4 time. still a 16 point lead in a low scoring game would be enough usually but they failed to score in the last term as Myp/Sell keep their Minor premierships chances alive to take over a faltering McLaren
Bays would have to be frustrated to be in 8th spot with only 5 wins considering how competitive they've been against all the top sides.

Strath by 193 over GPE Strath broke a 5 game losing streak which would be no consolation to them after another disappointing season for them

Victor have really confirmed they're the real deal by trouncing the ladder leaders McLaren by 52 points and looking good for the double chance where they'll be dangerous. McLaren have really hit a flat spot and it's gonna take something special to get that momentum back before finals.

Willunga trounced Yank by 161 points. Obviously the win wasnt a shock but the margin well and truly was. Willunga had only kicked a total of 10 goals in their past 2 matches whilst Yank had been super competitive in their last 3 to Compass, Creeks and Bays only going down by 3 - 4 goals in each of them
Probably cant read anything into the result at all

With 3 rounds to go i'd say Vh and Myp/Sell are the clear form teams and most peoples pick for the flag whiulst McLaren still needs to be respected as they may still finished top . From what i've seen of Willunga and Compass in recent weeks, neither are capable of taking the flag from the Elim final

Re: Great Southern Football League

What's happening at McLaren. They appeared unbeatable until the last few matches.

Won their 1st 10 matches of the season tho they certainly didn't look unbeatable as they scraped home in a few of them . Copped a few injuries i believe including Ellis who has missed the last few games and that's all it takes to struggle to win games with the comp being so even. They play the 3 bottom teams in the last 3 rounds so should finish top although E Bay in Rd 17 is certainly no certainty at all going on form atm.

Re: Great Southern Football League

Rd 16 guesses

Compass v Bays - Crucial Compass win this so they dont leave the door ajar for the Creeks to grab 5th. Wet conditions, gonna be a low scoring slog one feels. Compass have more to lose so is the tip by 8 points

Myp/Sell v Creeks - Creeks need at least 1 upset in their last 3 matches against either Myp/Sell or Victor to heap the pressure on Compass. Today is probably their best chance but tip would have to be the Mudlarks still. Myp/Sell by 19 points

McLaren will demolish GPE - Being wet may reduce the margin. McLaren by 91 points

Strath host Willunga - Interesting game this, Willunga been in average form lately and cant take much notice of there huge win last week. Strath have been terrible since mid season only beating GPE last week after losing 5 on the trot. Tip - Willunga but not with huge confidence as Strath has traditionally done well against them even when theyre the rank underdog. Willunga by 16 points

Victor will easily beat Yank from anything between 60 and 160 points

Re: AFL Round 23

Crows don’t miss easy set shots in the first half this isn’t even a discussion point

That maybe true but also is completely irrelevant to the unacceptable F**K up that occurred. Even if it didnt have an affect on the result of the match it's still an embarrassment to the AFL who have invested so much into score review technology but still don't have a workable process in place to call upon it when needed.
The fact that they conveniently review EVERY goal simply because there is a 30 second gap before play restarts BUT don't review behinds because it may hold the game up by denying the defensive team from immediately bringing the ball back into play is a completely half arsed process that will continue to deliver inconsistencies and stuff ups going forward and shows that keeping the game moving is more important than getting the right outcomes.

Re: Great Southern Football League

What were the conditions like at the Creek JJ? That’s a biiigg win.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Conditions pretty much ideal. 2 goal breeze to the Southern End. Pitch square fine. Ground a touch tacky around CHF both ends.
Creeks really should have kicked closer to 40 goals. Butchered numerous chances in 1st quarter. (6 - 10) . Very good 2nd quarter into the breeze (9 - 4 )
Very ordinary for the 1st 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter before getting it together to finish with (11 - 7). Last quarter kicked 6 reasonably quickly but then went goaless for the last 15 minutes, kicking a string of points.
GPE were the most Most noncompetitive team i've seen since the days Port Elliot were copping hidings back in the day. Having said that the guys out there gave it their best shot all day fighting it out to the finish but it's obvious they've lost a shit load of players in the last month .

Re: Great Southern Football League

Rd 17 done and dusted and the Top 5 will remain as is unless Yank upset McLaren next week and Myp/Sell down Compass which would see the Mudlarks take the Minor Premiership.

McLaren it seems will fall in to take the Minor Premiership after downing the Bays by a solitary point. Would be a long time since a Minor Premier will go into finals in such poor form and will be interesting to see if they can turn that around in 3 weeks.
For the Bays the narrow loss sums up their season. They've lost all their matches against the top 5 teams in the 2nd half of the season by 20 points or less.
Great Southern is probably the envy of just about every other country Association when the 8th ranked team is so competitive against EVERY other team.

Compass keep surprising imo and in a game where Victor had a lot more at stake , Compass won by 4 goals. Not sure where Victor are at after that result? Still right in the premiership mix as they'll finish Top 3 tho finals are shaping up where any result shouldn't be unexpected.

Myponga/Sell comfortably accounted for Willunga who seemingly are on a down hill spiral with their form and hard to see them going deep in finals.

Strath had a smaller than expected win against Yank by only 31 points. Apart from 1 or 2 blowout results Yank have been pretty competitive in the back half of the season.

L Creek continued GPEs misery by inflicting another massive defeat on them to the tune of 199 points. And that with the Creeks not playing well at times during the game. GPE struggled to field a B Grade team, i think they played with 16 that included a few senior colts. Gonna be a massive task for them to rebuild for next year.

Re: Great Southern Football League

The Victor v Creek clash was a bit of a strange game. Creeks still had plenty of their best missing and Victor rested some players. The northern end was favoured by the breeze and Victor had kicked 5 before Creek got on the board. 5-5 to 2-0 at the first break.

The second quarter saw a more even tussle, except on the scoreboard. Creek capitalised on Victor mistakes and transitioned from defence to score goals at will, whereas Victor were wasteful. 7-0 from Creek to 2-4 left creek ahead at the long break 9-0 to 7-9.

Victor came out on a mission in the 3rd and totally dominated in one of their biggest quarters for the year kicking 11-3 to 1-1 to take an 18-12 to 10-1 lead into the last.

With the damage done, creek fought on to win the last 4-4 to 3-2.
Final: 21-14 to 14-5. Stock had his most fruitful day of the year with 7 majors.

Earlier, VH B’s turned around that 56 point loss to a 66 point win. It will be interesting to see how many Creek get back for the elimination when they clash again.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Fair summation of the A Grade game. Creeks accuracy kept them in the game. And yes the ease with which the Creeks transitioned the ball from defense to score goals with ease in the 2nd term is one thing Victor need to look at tightening up.
Having said that i dont know how much can be taken out of the game with both teams having many players missing. Creeks i counted as having up to 9 of their best starting 21 missing. That in turn has affected their B Grade in the back half of the season.
I've heard Creek B Grade will have up to 8 INs for the Elim Final so expecting a lot closer result than the 66 point loss on Saturday tho heard that Victor will be further strengthened as well

Re: Great Southern Football League

And indeed the B Grade Elim Final was a lot closer with it being a Draw  with Victor going onto win in Extra time.

A Grade finals over the weekend were both cliffhangers which was not at all surprising given how close the comp has been all season.
Myp/Sellicks stopped to a walk in the last quarter to fall in against Victor by 3 points whilst Willunga scraped in by 1 point to Eliminate Compass

Re: Great Southern Football League

Gonna be interesting to see what team the Creeks put on the park next season :?
The word on the street is that the change of coach hasn't gone down well with all. Have heard a number of retirements are imminent as well as rumors of quite a few of their top end players receiving no shortage of offers to be lured away from Hawk Park.
Interesting times ahead

Lol bloody sooks time for a change I reckon need an outsider to come in and shake up the boys club down there and get some results on the park! the players if they leave/ retire may be missed but are certainly not irreplaceable.

Will respectively disagree
Results?
2018 Premiers
2019 Premiers
2020 Premiers
2021 Runners Up
2022 4th (Good effort considering the players that left and injuries)
2023 6th (Disappointing not to make finals but would have challenged for the Flag had it not been for a horrendous run with injuries to their top players which often saw them without 6 - 8 of their top players most weeks.

Time will tell what players leave (one already confirmed and i'm hearing quite a few others tho a couple are unrelated to the change of coach - Retiring, work commitments ) but it's gonna be a neat trick to replace them with equivalent talent.

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2023/2024

It's a bad era for batsmen to get hit on the pads
I've noticed for many years now umpires have been very generous in giving LBWs
Back in the 1970s, 1980s LBWs were very hard to get And you'd hardly ever get one bowling from around the wicket but these days it seems you can bowl around the wicket from as wide as possible and as long as it hits the batsman somewhere close to in front it seems you're GONE
It almost seems if umpires have been told to take the angles out of decision ,making :?
Umpiring isn't easy and we can all sit back in the comfort of our chairs and watch replay after replay but i feel the umpires need to find an in between balance between the 80s and recent times. Has there been a batsman this match that hasn't stood their ground for about 5 seconds in disbelief after being fired LBW ?

Forgetting for the moment that we’re Aussies, this is great to watch.

An Afghan win here would be great for the tournament.

Very true

How terrible was Heads dismissal ?
He's a bully on flat tracks but as an opener you have to expect a swinging ball for a few overs at least and have some sort of defensive technique to handle it.

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

1 complete round done for A Grade in A&EHCA and unsurprisingly the Creeks and Lobethal have dominated the comp so far with Creeks undefeated and Lobethal with just the narrow loss to the Creeks.
Strath are looking solid in 3rd spot
Macclefield got off to a flier winning their 1st 3 matches but have fallen in a hole since losing 4 on the trot to drop to 5th
How costly will their controversial 1 run loss to Nairne be come the end of the minor round?
Nairne after a slow start to the season (was a tough draw playing the 3 top sides 1st up) have won their last 4 to sit in 4th spot

Hard to see Woodside making finals from here in 6th with just the 2 wins. They're certainly competitive but just don't have the depth of talent to trouble the top teams.
Hahndorf with a young team are struggling to pick up wins but they're setting themselves up for the future
Bremer Callington with the loss of a few key players from last season are really struggling and are winless whilst copping some real hidings which isn't good for the comp.

Round 8

Maccy host Hahndorf and the Redbacks simply need to win this and should but theirs no guarantees in this game.

Creeks should coast to a win at Callington against the venomless Cobras

Strath came from the clouds to beat Woodside in round 1 and will look to consolodate 3rd spot with a win here. If Woodside have any hope in making a challenge for the finals it starts here but Strath look too good.

Nairne got hammered by Lobey in Round 1but have gained some confidence in the last month. Hard to see them upsetting Lobey but will be a good test to see how much they have improved
