Re: 2018/19 Australian Summer of cricket

Shit captaincy, shit fielding and bowlers bowling some absolute tripe.

Been a fan of Lyon since day 1 but i have never seen 10 overs from anybody less likely to take a wicket in a ODI
Same around the wicket negative bowling ball after ball after ball with the only intent to try to minimize run scoring
For Australia to have any hope of returning to the top they need their spinners to bowl aggressively in search of wickets.
The Indians just picked him at 6 rpo taking zero risks

Re: Park Cricket Sledges

About 5 years ago late in the season we called up our opponent (Nairne) Saturday morning to tell them our pitch was saturated and dont bother coming down. Protocol is if theres a spare ground the game can be transferred to it but there were none so the game is just abandoned and called a draw. An hour later we get a call from the League that Monarto Oval was available to play on. Now Monarto wasn't even in our Association and the ground there hadn't been in use for a year or 2 so was rough as guts but Nairne apparently had played a C Grade game there earlier in the season so apparently it was deemed as an acceptable oval to use. So both teams trekked out there and almost choked when we saw what we were confronted with. Once the matting and stumps were put in at least the pitch half looked like it belonged to a cricket field but the outfield was a disgrace with foot high weeds and small bushes in between the rabbit burrows  Ok maybe a slight exaggeration but you get the picture.
Nairne batted 1st and their opener took guard and faced up ready to receive the 1st ball. Just as the bowler started to run into bowl our wicket keeper yelled out "Hang on a minute, i just need to pull a few of these weeds out 1st that are distracting me". No word of a lie about 2 metres from him there was some variety of thick bushy weed thing that was at least a foot high. As he proceeded to pull it out of the ground roots and all the batsman turned around and said to the Keeper "Do you need a HOE mate?" To which the keeper instantly replied "Hey mate if i needed a HOE i'd ring your wife" =))
The batsman saw red and wanted a piece of him but the umpire butted in and said "Guys, Cmon , lets play cricket" 3rd ball of the innings batsman snicks up straight to 2nd slip and is out. There was a lot of niggle for the rest of the game. After the game the opener was still fuming more than ever and wanted a piece of the keeper in the car park but he'd already shot through thankfully

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

2 Rounds to go in A&EHCA and the Premiership race is wide open with 5 genuine contenders with the current FORM side of the comp Lobethal unable to make the Finals despite winning their last 6 matches which have included wins over Hahndorf, Strath & Nairne.

A Grade Table

Woodside 48
Hahndorf 46
Strath 46
Nairne 40
L Creek 38

Lobethal 28
Brem/Call 26
Wistow 16
Mt Barker 4

Woodside or Hahndorf seem the most likely of the Top 3 to be Minor Premiers tho Strath are still a slight chance but unlikely.

The most interesting battle is between Nairne & L Creek for 4th spot. Nairne have not missed Finals since 2007/08 but are being put under huge pressure by the Creeks who have got their shit together the last 3 weeks with 3 fantastic wins in what have basically been all Elimination Finals. They started with an upset win over Hahndorf, followed by a courageous win over Wistow despite fielding a depleted team and then last Saturday narrowly won over Nairne who blew their chance to put a lock on 4th spot but have now left the door ajar
Simply put, the Creeks to get in need to win 1 game more than Nairne in last 2 rounds.
Both teams have tough games to finish off with
Nairne play Woodside and Hahndorf whilst Creeks host the in form Lobethal followed by a trip up the road to Strathalbyn.

Been a long while since the A Grade comp has been this competitive with very little between the top 6 teams and whilst the bottom 3 have struggled a bit, they all have had at least 1 upset win over a top 6 side.
Wistow beat Lobethal in round 6
Brem / Call thrashed Woodside in round 8
Mt Barker chased down 261 against the Creeks in round 7

If the forecast Temp for Adelaide stays at 40c for Saturday ALL Grades will be called off with the exception of the A Grade which will still go ahead albeit under the reduced 35 per side format instead of 45.
Promises to be a very intriguing last 4 weeks of the season

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

A remarkable round of results in the penultimate minor round matches in A&EHCA sees an even more intriguing battle for Finals spots than one could have imagined.
Creeks kept their season alive by belting the in form Lobethal with Ben Warren doing what he has done for the best part of 20 years, that is belting up on teams that are a little under strength as Lobey were Saturday. Smashing 81 off 57 balls and then following it up with 4/20 with the ball, he's a strong chance to take out his 1st "Shaun Tait Cricketer of the Year Award" since it was introduced in 2005/06

Nairne who are under Big pressure for their 4th spot responded with a win over Woodside to remain 1/2 a win ahead of the Creeks whilst Woodside has now lost Top spot again.

Hahndorf took top spot back from Woodside after receiving a scare from Wistow. Hahndorf accumulated 9/209 after oddly being sent into bat in the hot conditions. Dan Jenner almost single handedly got Wistow over the line with a brilliant 117 but with little support they failed by 21 runs

Now for the SHOCK UPSET of the round
Strath were still a chance of snaring Top spot but are now incredibly in a position that they could miss the finals all together
Chasing Bremer / Callingtons 112 on the turf at Callington, Strath were cruising to a regulation win at 1/50 and then incredibly lost 9/13 to be ALL OUT for 65 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UNBELIEVABLE SCENES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tho the Callington pitch has certainly been tough to bat on this season by all reports which has been backed by low scores there all season, surely there can be little excuse for a collapse of that magnitude.

In the wash up of all that the Top 5 now reads
Hahndorf 50
Woodside 48
Strath 46
Nairne 44
L Creek 42

This week
Strath play Creek
Nairne play Hahndorf
Woodside play Lobethal

Woodside can reclaim top spot with a win and Hahndorf losing
L Creek need to beat Strath and rely on Nairne losing to Hahndorf but as a result of last week shock loss by Strath , Creeks can also get in the 4 by beating Strath and overtaking them on NRR At the moment the differential is 0.16 in Straths favour but a decisive win by the Creeks may see them go ahead of Strath
Nairne need to beat Hahndorf to ensure their spot in the Finals otherwise they are relying on the Creeks to lose if they do as well.

With rumors flying around that most of the Top 5 sides (Creeks, Nairne & Hahndorf in particular) will have key players missing at some stage over the next few weeks, the Premiership has never been as wide open

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

Nairne have missed the Finals for the 1st time since the 2007/08 season
Langhorne Creek have snatched a Finals spot on the back of 5 consecutive wins, incredibly entering the Top 4 for for the very 1st time for the season !!!!
Hahndorf have held Top spot whilst Woodside who have crashed badly by losing 3 of their last 4 games have held onto 2nd ahead of Strath in 3rd who blew a Top 2 finish by losing their last 2 matches.

Hahndorf without Shaun Tait and an incapacitated Jarrad Tait who didnt bat or bowl were still too good for Nairne to sew up Top spot and put Nairnes Finals hopes at risk
Nairne 130 Def by Hahndorf 5/132

Nairne were then eliminated when L Creek were too good for Strath in a fluctuating game of fortunes.
Creeks after being 0/80 then collapsed to 5/89 before recovering to 188 on the back of a season saving 41 run 10th wicket partnership. Strath after a solid start were then contained to a score of 173 off their 45 overs and blew their opportunity of grabbing a vital Top 2 spot

Woodside went down to Lobethal in the other significant match of the Round scoring only 99 to which Lobey replied with 6/102 to rack up their 7th win in the last 8 rounds but still falling well short of Finals contention after their horror 1st half of the season.

Next weeks matches
1st Semi Final - Strath (3rd) v L Creek (4th) @ Strathalbyn
Its anyones guess what sort of team the Creeks will come up with for this game as their last 5 wins have come from teams sporting many "Fill In" type players that are ineligible for Finals as they havent qualified players Like Derham & Golding who both played integral roles with the ball in their win over Strath just gone but have only played 2 and 1 game(s) respectively

2nd Semi Final - Hahndorf (1st) v Woodside (2nd) @ Hahndorf
Hard to pick a winner here as Woodside arnt in winning form atm whilst Hahndorf will still be without Shaun Tait (i think?)

Winner of 1st Semi to play the Loser of the 2nd Semi on Sunday in the Preliminary Final

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

In A2’s news (yeah I know who cares) Echunga has snuck into the finals despite losing to top side Macclesfield at Macy’s. The Miners restricted the hosts to just 101. Knowing run rate was vital, the lads had a crack at the bowling from the get go, as they had a number of regulars unavailable and a longer tail than normal. Even at 4/72 off 16 overs the chase looked safe. The lower order jitters set in and the chase came up about 7 runs short. With 4 blokes back in next week, the Miners are a bloody good chance to knock Maccy over in the semi!

Theres always someone who cares CM
Maccy have been a stand out all season and if they take out the A2s Flag i would suspect there would be significant pressure on them to go up to A Grade and make it an even 10 team comp again which would be fantastic considering where it was just 2 years ago stuck on 7 teams with little hope of an increase.
The change to 1 day cricket for As is certainly starting to be proven to have been a good decision.

On a separate note the Strath v Creek A Grade Game yesterday was a real spectacle with both teams in full coloured uniforms (Strath all red and Creek all Black) along with using the white ball.
Think it may only be a matter of time before this becomes a regular feature of the A Grade comp

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

Back to the Creek though. They've come from the clouds to grab a GF spot, while Woodies have bowed out in straight sets.

They certainly have come from the clouds.
Creeks would have to have been 200/1 for the flag 5 weeks out from Finals.
They were 2 1/2 wins adrift of Nairne in 4th
HAD to win their last 5 matches and also rely on Nairne losing 3 of their last 5.
At the same time remembering the Creeks had yet to beat a team above them on the ladder all season.

Incredibly that all happened on the back of having numerous players missing and the team being patched up with fill ins.

Then once getting to 4th they then had to win 2 AWAY Finals to make the GF

Saturday Elim Final v Strath at Strath
Winning the toss and batting it was the Ben Warren show as he blazed a brilliant 96 off 81 balls accompanied by skipper Tonkin (43) who arrived an hour late from attending a wedding to enable the Tigers to set Strath a challenging 217
A sensational direct hit Run Out of Cousins by Tonkin in the 1st over set the tone for the Strath innings as they crumbled for 118 to end their Season that promised so much with 3 straight losses.

Sat Qualifying Final Hahndorf v Woodside
Both teams were vulnerable here as Hahndorf were without skipper Shaun Tait for the weekend whilst Woodside were coming into the game with average form losing 3 of their past 4 matches
Woodside were in the box seat having bowled the Magpies out for only 112 and then were seemingly cruising to victory sitting on 1/60 with only 53 to win with 9 wickets in hand.
And then the pressure of chasing runs in a final took its toll as they crumbled to incredibly lose 9/29 and all out for 89  thus setting up a date with the Creeks the following day

Sun Prelim Final Woodside v Creeks at Woodside
Creeks won the toss and batted and were looking to post a BIG score at 2/80 until they lost their 3 main men in Warren, Tonkin and Cox in quick succession to be vulnerable at 5/100 But the Creek have a bit of batting depth atm and they were able to double that to make an even 200 which put them in the box seat to avenge their heartbreaking 1 wicket loss in the Prelim Final at the same venue 24 months prior
Woodside got off to a confident start swiftly moving to 0/24 but once Wescombe chopped on a Cleggett dart it was the start of the end for Woodside who batted like a team with zero confidence as they steadily capitulated to be bowled out for under a 100 for the 3rd match in a row only making 84 and tumble from the Finals race in straight sets to see them lose 5 of their last 6 matches whilst the Creeks marched into their 1st Grand Final appearance since 2011/12 on the back of 7 successive wins :o

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

So looks as though Aldgate needed 1 off the final ball of the day, 1 wicket in hand. And they got it- ending Meadows' run of flags in the process.

They were 3/100 earlier and look 79 overs to reel in 129.

Two remarkable finishes over the weekend, making TVCA's 14 run GF margin seem comfortable. ;)

Saw the last few hours and by gee it came within a whisker of rivaling the unbelievable finish of the Creek v Hahndorf GF only 24 hours earlier.
What a contrast the 2 games were. The A&EHCA GF a run fest compared to the Hills GF which was just a slow grind all day as Aldgate so very slowly crawled towards their target. Great credit to Meadows who looked out of it but just kept grinding and slowly but surely you could see the tide turning and the champs getting up off the canvas and got themselves into the box seat to win only for Aldgate to snatch it back right at the death in an amazing finish. Needing 3 to win off the last over it started with a dot ball then followed by a 2 as the batsmen contemplated going for the match winning 3rd but decided better of it leaving just 1 to win off 4 balls with 2 wickets in hand.
With every fielder circling the batsmen the next 2 balls were dots as the tension built.
The 2nd last ball was then hit back to the bowler with the batsmen running but the bowler turning around to effect a run out to bring it down to 1 off the last ball.
I was thinking? What odds a Mankad? And sure enough the bowler stopped short of delivering the ball with the non striker haring down the pitch as the crowd held their breath if the Mankad would be effected ????
It wasn't
Now thats one that will create plenty of discussion. We all know its a bit of a dog act BUT so is the non striker cheating trying to steal a run.
Last ball was belted down the ground for a 3 and Meadows remarkable 9 year reign had been conquered

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

Where's Jackpot Jim?? must have been a cracker of a night down at the Creek, I reckon I could hear the Celebrations here at Strathalbyn, big day at Bleasedale maybe?

Subdued celebrations for me.
The lads pretty happy obviously
Think we are still trying to comprehend what has happened over the past 6 weeks?

It has been the most unbelievable run of 8 consecutive wins against all odds to win a flag
From where the Creeks were at 6 weeks ago ive roughly calculated the odds of winning the flag from that point at about 500/1 !!!!!
To have had to overcome so many obstacles to get into the Grand Final and then once there everything just seemed to go against them until one of the most remarkable finishes in cricket history !
Chasing 201 for victory the Creeks stumbled to 7/131 with only 7 overs to go of the allotted 45 available.
needing 10 rpo for the last 7 after only going at 3.5rpo for the innings the game was as good as over on the slow Hahndorf Oval.
Enter Troy Blackwell with the bat who had already had a tiring day after playing a half a game of footy for South Adelaide Reserves and then bowled 9 overs. With very aggressive running between wickets he was able to pick up NUMEROUS 2s and steadily reduced the target down to 12 runs needed from the last over where Ryan Trafford-Walker was called upon to bowl his 1st over of the day. A 2 off the 1st ball made it 10 from 5 but when the next 2 balls were air swings making it 10 from 3 surely Hahndorf were home? Another 2 then made it 8 off 2 . It was now or never and the penultimate ball was in the slot and was dispatched high over Mid Wicket for 6 !!! 2 required off the last ball for the win and strangely Hahndorf moved all their fielders in close to save the single when it was surprising they didnt put a few back to 2/3rds out as restricting the 2 was the priority as a single and a Tie would still give Hahndorf the Flag. Blackwell then cooly chipped the ball over cover for 2 to see the Creeks pull off the miracle win.
Simply astonishing that left the Hahndorf faithful stunned as they could only contemplate losing the almost unlosable with 7 overs to go.
Credit to the Hahndorf guys especially The Tait brothers and President Hass who were very gracious in defeat as they were still trying to digest what had just happened

Re: AFL Round 4 - Just don't touch anyone

Having watched the last quarter of the GC v Carlton game along with bits and pieces of other games, its never been more apparent that theres about 6 teams too many in the AFL as the difference in talent between the best and the worst players is as wide as the Grand Canyon at its widest point. Members and fans are getting ripped off big time with the sub standard s**t that is being dished up each week. The skills and decision making in that GC / Carlton were quite simply deplorable and is miles from where it should be from so called professional footballers. The AFL is all a huge money making con but as long as fans continue to support it in its current form (and credit to them as no one wants to see their own club fall by the wayside) little will change and to think they're talking about expanding it to 20 teams is beyond belief.

Re: Great Southern Football League

4 Rounds down and Mount Compass are the only undefeated team and it would be a brave person to tip that they wont remain there for the rest of the season. Who a potential challenger may be is anyones guess?
Gonna be a very tight race for not only a vital double chance 2nd or 3rd spot but also for a Top 5 spot and luck in winning the close games against teams around the same mark will be vital in determining that.
3 very close results Saturday with last years Grand Finalists McLaren and Creeks along with the Bays all going down in tight finishes,.

Yank after leading the Creeks all day and never really looked like losing did a great escape after the Creeks grinded their way to the lead with about 2 minutes to go by dominating play in the last quarter . Yank managed to get the important centre clearance after the Creek goal and received a 50/50 free in the marking contest in front of goal to take the lead back and hang on for the last minute. Creeks really struggled for a lack of height around the ground with Sellar not playing due to work commitments. Can see both teams vying for 4th or 5th spot but as with every team, injuries / availability of players etc to field close to full strength teams will be vital for their finals chances.

Re: AFL week 8 - A round of consummate pertinence.

Ablett not even cited.

Rules for some and rules for others

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Nothing in it clearly. Just an honest good Christian elbow to the head lol.

Being serious I thought it was less of an impact than last week.

Absolute joke not to be found guilty last week even if only a fine let alone not even be cited this week
And I will call out that I personally think G. Ablett is a champ and the best I have seen in my time..

Reckless..... Yes
High contact..... Yes
Impact....Low to medium
Outcome.... At a minimum it is guilty and probably a fine last week but a game for the exact replica incident this week as he hadn't learn't.
What will it take, a fractured eye socket or something ?

The North Melbourne lad gets a game for a clash of heads with Rohan after tucking up well to bump in the act of a shepherd ( that art is gone now too !! )
Yes yes yes he chose to bump.
Ablett chose to jump off the ground again and raise his arms and make head contact.. Twice now !!!

Well, the AFL have absolutely guaranteed one thing.

The booing of a Ablett will continue bigger and stronger.
Not about his faith beliefs but because there clear evidence in this that he is being treated more favorably than others !!!!

Spot on NK
The inconsistencies with the rulings continue to broaden and become more mystifying by the week.
The AFL are all huff and puff when it comes to clamping down on dangerous actions. They just want a bit each way it seems
If its a no name nobody player they make an example of them but if its a high profile player they duck for cover and come up with all sorts of PISS WEAK excuses to avoid a backlash but at the same time they just dig themselves into a deeper hole.
Mark Robertson summed it up perfectly last night on AFL 360 on both the non reporting of Ablett and Fyffe along with the brain fade of Rampe climbing the goalpost.

What sort of crowd do you think they will get today ... Pissing down here at victor since 10:30 and still going now not sure what it like in town ? Plus the fact they are playing the Suns you would think say anything over 30k would be a pass mark .
Smack bang in the middle of the day on a Sunday when all the metro kids play doesn’t help either.

The games F*****D at AFL level
Im surprised anyone wastes their money going to watch the tripe some of the teams, coaches and umpires serve up
Just so much inconsistency in the application of the "Grey as F**K" rules Steve Hocking and his cretins implement into the game just to justify their positions, makes the game more like X Lotto as to which way decisions are going to be paid.
The deliberate out of bounds rule or is it the didnt try to keep the ball in hard enough rule is sheer lunacy. Simply take the GREY out of it and adjudicate it like the SANFL and Country leagues do. Simple !!!!

Re: Great Southern Football League

7 rounds in and i think we have found our 3rd flag favourite for the season
Tho there are no official markets it was generally considered at the start of the season that McLaren were slight favourite.
That quickly changed to Mount Compass but following successive losses it seems that Victor Harbor are now into favourtism
With things being so incredibly tight between the top 7 - 8 teams its hard not to think that favourtism will change many more times before seasons end.
Currently the top 8 are all still in contention but any slip up of 2 or 3 losses in a row could easily see any of those teams quickly fall out of contention.
Yankalilla face their moment of truth the next 2 weeks when after a promising start to the season have struggled a bit and a loss to McLaren and Compass in coming weeks will see them out of the race i'd imagine.
When was the last time the GSFL was as tight as this? And thats not saying it hasn't been tight in recent years. To have 3 or 4 Finals like game every week is something most other Leagues could only dream about.

Re: Great Southern Football League

Half way point of the Minor Round and slowly but surely things are starting to sort themselves out just a little bit but still enough time for some twists and turns to happen yet
Compass, Willunga and Victor all with a 7 & 2 record have a very handy break on the rest of the field in regards to a coveted Top 3 finish being a game and healthy % ahead of their nearest challengers.
Last years Grand Finalists McLaren 6 & 3 and Creeks 5 & 4 occupy 4th and 5th and will certainly need to find a little more consistency in the 2nd half to challenge for a Top 3 spot.
Strath 5 & 4 just trail the Creeks on % in 6th whilst E Bay 7th would be very disappointed with a 4 & 5 record considering they impressively beat the Creeks in Round 1 and only a few weeks back led one of the Premiership favorites in Compass by 9 goals at one stage before incredibly losing
Yankalilla 8th with a 3 & 6 record have fallen off the pace markedly in recent times after a very promising start to the season which also included a narrow win over the Creeks but would need a miracle from here to turn their season around and challenge for Finals.
Goowla/PE broke the ice with a win over fellow cellar dweller Myp/Sellicks who would have been disappointed after pushing the Creeks all the way last match.
With just about every match involving the top 7 or 8 teams being Finals like, its gonna be very tough for teams to string wins together to climb the ladder in the 2nd half so i'd be surprised if any of the Top 3 drop out of the Double chance even tho i have no doubt they will lose a few games to teams currently ranked 4th to 7th simply because the Comp is so incredibly even.

Creek / Victor game yesterday was as good as they come with intense Finals like pressure from start to finish with the likely winner changing 4 or 5 times during the day with Victor eventually prevailing as their Forward talls eventually overwhelmed the Creek defense which was stretched for height especially after Sellar was forced to sit out the rest of the match from just prior to half time after copping a blow to the head in a ruck contest. Creeks battled brilliantly in the 2nd half and despite getting out to a 3 goal lead half way through the last quarter, it looked like they had given their all and were just looking to hang on in the final stages and as a result Victor took more risks which they had to do and it paid dividends as they kicked 5 of the last 6 goals.
A massive win for Victor that sets their season up whilst the reigning Premiers have plenty to think about in the run home to position themselves for a crack at back to back.
A bit disconcerting for the Creeks is that after being undefeated on Hawk Park last year they have dropped 3 of their 5 home games this year after blowing good leads in all of them
E Bay - Were 5 goals up in 1st Qtr and lost by 14 points
Willunga - were 5 goals up in 2nd Qtr and lost by 9 points
Victor - were 3 goals up in last Qtr and lost by 9 points
Creeks other loss for the year was at Yank when they led by 3 points with a minute to go and lost by 3 points
With the Additions of McGregor and Helyar the Hawks are still a genuine Premiership threat but will find it extremely tough from an Elimination Final if indeed they make Finals which they should but nothing would surprise me. To get the double chance from here with their relative low % they will probably need to win 8 of their last 9 games which whilst possible is highly unlikely given the tightness of the comp.
Gonna be a cracker 2nd half of the season.

Re: Great Southern Football League

Round 11 could be a wet one if BOM gets it right.
As per usual there are several massive games with results having a big impact on teams chances come September
The game of the round is Victor v Compass. Victor are in hot form at the moment and get the nod in a tight one in a result that could ultimately decide the Minor Premiership.
Victor by 9 points

The other HUGE game is last years Grand Finalists in the Spluttering Hawks (7th) and McLaren (4th).
It was Rd 16 2014 (1785 days ago) since McLaren last toppled the Hawks and im tipping they may have to wait a bit longer as well.
The Hawks will be back close to Full strength Saturday in what is simply a MUST win game for them just to stay in touch with the 5
Mclaren need the win likewise to not only break their hoodoo over the Hawks but to stay in top 3 contention which is paramount to launch a Premiership bid.
L Creek by 17 points

Of the other games the Bays simply have to get the job done at Yankalilla and on last weeks effort they should
Bays by 27 points

Strath and Willunga should both have comfortable wins over the the merged bottom of the ladder teams in Goolwa/PE & Myponga/Sellicks respectively.
Strath by 39 points
Willunga by 51 points

And another stuff up from the umps.
That was clearly hitting leg

I would hardly say that was a stuff up

Even the aussies didn’t really consider a review or anything, it wasn’t a massive blunder.

In years gone by that would have hardly even been given out

How the F**K anyone thought that was missing is beyond me.
Seriously just looked out
There are 3 stumps there, its not always have to be hitting middle half way up to be plumb
100 times easier to give than giving Broad LBWs bowling around the wicket and not straightening the ball at all and going down leg by a mile
Utterly USELESS INCOMPETENT umpiring at its best

who would have thought that on day 1 at 8/122

And thats the exact reason why you always bat 1st pretty much EVERY time given the choice as regardless what shit you're in with the bat you're always still in the game
Just as Eng Showed against Ireland after being 7/40 odd and conceding over a 100 1st innings deficit. Bat well in your 2nd innings, give the opposition any sort of half decent target and watch'm crumble under the pressure on generally wearing pitches

Re: Great Southern Football League

The result of the Willunga - Victor game was always gonna have a huge bearing on their respective chances come finals and looking at the score the game certainly didnt disappoint with Victor over coming a 23 point quarter time deficit to be a comfortable 21 point leader at 3/4 time and looking good to wrap up the double chance whilst Willunga needed the win to set them up as Minor Premiers .
Willunga ultimately prevailed by the barest possible margin, 1 point
The result being now Willunga only need to defeat Strath to seal the Minor Premiership and a free pass into the 2nd Semi Final whilst Victor who were looking the goods to finish top only 2 weeks ago have faltered by losing to fellow finalists McLaren and Willunga and now face the in form Creeks who are on a 7 game winning streak in a match that will determine who finishes 3rd and the important double chance. The loser will be consigned to the cut throat Elim final against the dangerous McLaren, which is a very difficult, treacherous and almost certain route to NOT winning the Flag.
All the pressure will be on Victor as the Creeks have basically been out of Top 3 contention all season until now and should have their full compliment to select from next week for only the 2nd time this season. Gonna be a cracking game i'd expect
So Willunga will finish Top if they beat Strath , if not they will drop to 2nd as Mt Compass should account for Yankalilla comfortably so will finish 2nd or Top if Willunga falter
McLaren have basiaclly a trial game against E Bay as a win or lose wont change anything for them as they are consigned for the Elim Final
As mentioned the winner of Victor v Creek match will finish 3rd and the loser playing McLaren next week.
Creek will actually likely fall to 5th if they lose.
All in all it's an incredibly strong top 5 teams and an amazing finals series is ensured

Re: The Ashes 2019

Hopefully this begins the discussion around the review system. Either review every decision or review none. The review system was brought in to stop the howlers. They can check for a front foot no ball on every decision if they want.

I agree
The current DRS system is better than the old days not having it at all but as with all things , the process can always be improved upon over time.

Surely what we want from technology is to get the most correct decisions as possible and by restricting reviews to only 2 per team per 80 overs, that simply will not be achieved.
The process needs to be taken out of the hands of the players and have an umpire review all decisions whether they be caught, LBW and No Balls along with Run Outs / Stumpings as they are now .
Who gives a shit if a bit of extra time is taken to get a correct decision?
Theres so much bloody time wasted now with other things its not surprising they never get their quota of overs bowled even allowing for overtime
Time delays that are common place now are -
Boundary reviews
Concussion / Helmet tests after EVERY head hit
Change of gloves
Drinks
Someone in Section F Row 8 Seat 14 that is standing up and not sitting down that is 15 metres to the left of the sightscreen but is still apparently a distraction to the batsman facing a spinner bowling 80 kmh
Sightscreen MALfunctions

And any other number of pathetic excuses

So is it really a big deal if for the sake of getting the most correct decisions possible if we lose another few minutes throughtout the day ??

Tips for this week end

Creeks by 7points in an absolute thriller today, however if Compass play their best footy they have the potential to blow creeks out the park early.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

=D> =D> ^:)^ ^:)^

Great tipping Grasshopper on BOTH counts

Creeks won albeit by 9 points and not 7 ;) and you were also correct in saying that Compass could blow the Creek away early which they also did (albeit with a 5 goal wind) to lead 5 - 5 (35) to 0 - 0 (0) at quarter time.

Still facing a 33 point deficit at 3/4 time and having only kicked 4 goals for the match, things were looking grim for the Creek but this group have the belief they can overcome any challenge and this they did as they attacked relentlessly in the last term to swamp Compass kicking 7 - 6 to 1 - 0 and progress to the 2nd Semi against Willunga.
Also a nice gesture and sportsmanship by the Compass team in among the extreme disappointment of the loss to clap off 250 gamer for the Creeks Brendan Saunders who was chaired off the ground after the game.

Re: Great Southern Football League

Nice review of the match fod.
Victors inaccuracy certainly kept McLaren in it
Was a weird scoreline that had spectators confused in the latter stages of the match as to just what the margin was at the time with as the Creek scoreboard doesn't show the total points for each team, just goals and behinds.
There was the extraordinary possibility at one stage of a team kicking 3 more goals than their opponents and still losing which one would think may have never happened before ?
Was a great fightback from McLaren to come back from 7 goals down to get within a goal in the last quarter but the effort took its toll and Victor finished off the better.

Another 2 cracking finals coming up next weekend with both again probably being toss of the coin jobs.
Sat Sept 7th 2nd Semi Final
Willunga v Langhorne Creek at Myponga.
Its 1 win apiece this season with both losing on their home grounds.
Tip - Creeks are on a roll with 9 successive wins and theres no reason to tip against them here. Creek by 10 points

Sun Sept 8th 1st Semi Final
Mount Compass v Victor Harbor at Strathalbyn
Compass have had the wood on Victor this year winning both matches by about 4 & 12 goals so going on that alone the Bulldogs would be confident.
Tip - Mt Compass by 19 points

Was just driving in the gate when the siren went to end the match. seemed like within seconds i noticed players from both sides sprinting towards the centre of the ground which i thought was odd. Then noticed an all in brawl was taking place with arms swinging everywhere.
Not sure what the wash up of it all was but it's certainly a SHOCKING look for the game and footy in general and surely some sort of action needs to be taken to serve notice that this sort of stuff in unacceptable.
Overheard someone say later in the day that it was caused by a comment like "Seeya next year loser" or something like that but who knows?

Normally I reckon you are a bit harsh on Paine, but Christ Why Did we bowl first?
It's the question on everyone's lips and it must be answered, I really want to know the thinking behind it because it just doesn't make sense.

One of the most mind boggling decisions ever to field 1st.
On what they were saying it was a dry pitch from the start with perfect fine and sunny weather for the 5 days with the pitch expected to turn more and more as the game went on. You have the best off spinner in the world to take advantage of it, one of the worst batting lists ever in Australian cricket apart from Smith and Labushagne so you definitely dont want to be chasing so despite all that Paine says "we're nice guys downunder, we'll give you every chance to level the series so here you go, have a bat.

Compass went from 32 points up at half time to 38 points down at 3/4 time on the back of a SCORELESS 3rd quarter whilst Willunga piled on 11 - 4
Compass lost to the Creeks all 3 times this season when they had periods in each of those games where they had a large number of goals kicked against them in a short period of time.
From what seemed to be an incredibly even Top 5 teams throughout the season the 2 BEST have prevailed to play off in the Grand Final
Willunga have lost only 2 of their last 17 matches (BOTH to the Creeks)
Creeks have won their last 10 matches

Creeks and Willunga have met 6 times previously in Grand Finals splitting the score at 3 flags each
Hoping the Creeks go Back to Back and extend the Dees premiership drought to an even decade

Re: The Ashes 2019

Has Tim Paine explained why he sent England in? Very poor decision. In his press conference yesterday he said he thought there was enough in it to bowl them out and said they created enough chances but didn't back the bowlers up in the field.
https://youtu.be/upJpHAT09Sw
I agree with that, certainly had their chances - a number of dropped catches and the missed reviews proved very costly.. could easily have been chasing sub 200 with 4 sessions to play instead of basically 400 in 3.

I dont give a shit for any of his explanations, it was just plain WRONG - STUPID - REPREHENSIBLE - DUMB as DOGSHIT

Also as far as i know the game finished on Day 4 so Aust were chasing 400 in basically 6 sessions not 3 ;)

Re: Australian Domestic Cricket 2019-20

Seems to me we keep picking the same 6 or 7 batsman for the last 5 years. They take turns getting a score about once in every 6 innings that retains their place in the team just in time.
Not sure what the answer is but it isn't these blokes over and over again.
Maybe we just pick the guys that have a chance of playing for Australia and then bring in the next wave of talent and stick with them for awhile. So just Carey, Head and Weatherald, dump the rest.

Cooper has been the form batsman and Ross makes 82* and you want to dump them? :?
Thing is that others that have been given opportunities are simply not up to it

Tough to blame one person but in reality Heads pathetic dismissal may have cost them the match
Makes 30 - 40 and Crapbacks make 270+ may have seen them 2 & 1 and all looking rosy. Its a fine line

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

Season starts today for A Grade only in A&EHCA
Should be a very intriguing season with certainly no clear favorite for the flag to start with
Out of the 9 teams there's maybe 6 main hopes for mine, those being in no particular order Lobethal, Woodside, Hahndorf, Strath, Nairne and reigning Premiers Langhorne Creek. Bremer / Callington surprised last year and i'd expect further improvement and wouldn't be surprised if they finish above a couple of the above mentioned teams. Wistow and Mt Barker may well be competitive but would be very surprising if the pushed for Finals

Round 1 games

Hahndorf v Lobethal - Hahndorf were the benchmark last season before stumbling in the GF losing in spectacular fashion off the last ball of the match from a seemingly unlosable position. No Shaun Tait this season will hurt them tho they should still be around the mark. Lobethal had a shocking start to the season last year which included being disqualified in one match. They were the form team of the comp after Christmas but were giving an impossible start to make finals and ended up narrowly missing. Certainly will be around the mark come finals time.
Tip - Hahndorf only because its at home but could go either way.

Woodside v Nairne - Perennial Finalists Woodside lost the plot with the bat late last season to see them bundled out in straight sets. The reported return of the legendary Nick "Slim" Johns may inspire them. Nairne missed the finals for the 1st time for over a decade and will be keen to get back into it. The gradual loss of some star premiership players in recent years has taken the aura of the side until their younger local talent step up and put their own mark on the comp.
Tip - Another toss of the coin job, again the home team for that reason alone - Woodside

Bremer/Callington v Mt Barker - these 2 had some good battles last season even tho B/C took all 3 clashes. With B/C picking up former local class player Jai McMurtrie they should be far too good for the Kookaburras who i heard a whisper have quite a few missing for this clash.
Tip - B/C comfortably

Strath v L Creek - Creek beat Strath in the last minor round match to make finals and then repeated the dose the week after in the Semi Final before going on to claim the Flag. Little has separated the 2 teams in recent years and on that fact one would expect this match to be a beauty except it is Round 1. The significance of Round 1 is that the Creeks basically havent won a Round 1 clash in the last 20 years. Too break the hoodoo the Creeks arranged a trial match last week for the 1st time in 40 years, losing in the process in an effort to fool the curse. Unfortunately for them it's unlikely to break the cycle barring a monumental upset as the Creeks will be fielding a shadow of the Premiership team (for round 1 at least) from 6 months ago whilst Strath with a few handy players returning appear to be a very solid unit.
Tip - Strath

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

Well Round 1 certainly was a fizzer with some lop sided results

Woodside belted Nairne by 9 wickets , chasing down the target of 101 in only 15.4 overs

Mt Barker had an easy win out on the Callington turf making 8/158 off their 45 overs and knocking over the Cobras for about 88 i read somewhere.

Havent seen a score yet but was told Hahndorf accounted for Lobethal comfortably

The biggest smashing that wasn't totally unexpected was Straths demolition of a depleted Creek team to the tune of 250 runs
Creek only fielded 4 of their Premiership 11 from last season.
Batting 1st Strath compiled 7/288 with Mark Abbott leading the way with 117
In reply the Creeks were always gonna be in trouble if their top few batsmen failed and this they did as they crumbled from 1/22 off 4 overs to be all out for 38 in 13.4 overs with Matt Abbott and Brayden Gaiter taking 5 poles each.
A massive result for Strath as NRR is always a big chance of plating a role come Finals time with the current points system.

Only Round 1 i know but i'd be surprised if Hahndorf , Strath and Woodside arn't a lock for Finals.
Wouldn't write off the Creeks as last season they copped several hammerings only to recover and win the Flag and did have 5 -6 of their best players missing that should return in the next week or 2

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

Another interesting round in A&EHCA with a couple of NEAR upsets and a few surprisingly easy wins
Strath and L Creek both survived huge scares from Cellar Dwellers Wistow and B/Callington respectively.

Strath struggled with the bat on their home turf in making a modest 165 which was a good recovery from 6/68 and 7/92. One would still expect Strath to defend that and they did but not without a fright as Daniel Jenner opened the batting and dominated the Wistow innings making 88 out of Wistows 148 to fall just 17 runs short.

The other near upset was Creeks only making 136 on their home turf which left the door open for the Cobras. At 6/117 with still 10 overs to go it was almost a formality the Cobras would pull off the upset especially with their highly rated recruit Mishal Kahn still at the crease on 60 but with the loss of 2 quick wickets on that score the pressure got to him and he also succumbed on 117. The last pair edged their way to 125 and within 12 of victory with still 6 overs to go before their luck ran out.

Lobethal and Nairne looked to be a even match up with victory to either team even at this still relatively early stage of the season being vital for both to stay in the finals race. Nairne struggled to 9/127 off their 45 overs on the traditionally very slow Lobethal outfield and going on the previous match their that total would still take some getting. Well how wrong was that as Weeks and Mathews wiped off the target without loss in a touch under 20 overs

Woodside even with a few key players injured were way too good for a struggling Mt Barker racking up a huge 189 run win

One quite amazing result caught my eye in the B Grade match between Macclesfield and Hahndorf
Maccy batting 1st were 9/129 before recovering to 207 with a 78 last wicket stand.
Hahndorf in their chase slumped to 9/139 but as did Maccy they recovered to level the scores with 1 ball to go which was duly dispatched over the fence for 6 by Tim Knappstein who was the hero finishing on 85* batting at no. 9
Both teams having last wicket stands of over 70 would surely be some kind of record?
Interesting to that Macclesfield were bowled out in only 29 overs leaving a whopping 11 overs unused whilst Hahndorf used all 40
