Re: Riverland Football Chatter

How will getting rid of the Indys expand the A grade comp?

ask the wfc

They are on drugs if they think getting rid of a league all together could benefit anyone!!!
I think the two leagues should operate independently. The RFL is a basket case as it is, let alone having to worry about the independent clubs as well. Try going to a delegates meeting when you have independent representatives there trying to put their two bobs worth in about what should be done in the RFL. Concentrate on your own league and let the RFL concentrate on theirs. Shoot me down if you will, I don't give a toss. You all know my thoughts anyway.

Goes both ways BC.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter

The introduction of BSR and Ramco to the Independent competition has been amazing.
Both have lifted the standard of the competition to a greater level and I would hate to see the Redbacks move to another league.
Like BOM said, you only had to watch last year's grand final to realise that.
Despite what some people say (mostly the 'big six'), the Independents has thrived in recent years, at least in the A grade.
The colts is another matter and something certainly needs to be done there.
But the A grade competition has expanded to nine teams and Moorook and Lyrup have come back from having no team at all to both looking like quality teams for 2014.
You only have to look at the teams who have made the grand final in the past decade to see that success could be just around the corner for some clubs.
Paringa, BSR Ramco, Lyrup, East Murray, Wunkar, Cobdogla and Moorook-Kingston have all played in at least one GF in the past 10 years. The only team that hasn't is Brown's Well and it showed huge improvement this year.

Love Newman. Wish he was in the show more often.

Actually one episode I missed was the one where Jerry was sleeping with the wife of a guy in a coma.
Newman is brilliant in that one.

I'd have no problem travelling to Sedan-Cambrai.
It's only once a year.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter

I wouldn't say Payney throws his head back alot, but he does get a lot of free kicks that probably aren't there. He certainly isn't alone in that in our comp.
But he is also one of the fairest players going around and does get a lot of 'attention' from the opposition each week. Can't imagine there'd be too many mornings where he wakes up without feeling like being hit by a truck.

The amount of free kicks he gets is probably proportionate to the amount of footy he gets in my opinion... He has no control over the standards of umpiring.

On the "attention" he receives the thing I find funny is that after all these years so many players/teams haven't worked out yet that it doesn't affect him in any way! He usually gets up shakes it off- has a laugh at how piss weak they are and goes on to rake up the touches!![/quote]

Spot on and I wasn't having a go at him. All he can do is go out and get the footy. Which he does A LOT of.

Re: 2014 - Ken Mcgregor medal Top 10 AFL spud award

IIRC the umpired blew "time off" as the Dees player ran around off his mark. He then handballed to Vince before the umpire had set the mark and called "time on".
Shouldn't have blown time off, there was no need - he wasn't lining up for a shot at goal, and the umpire wasn't corrected his angle etc, so why blown Time Off?

Once the umpire "calls you around" and you don't listen, he blows time off. So he was, in fact, correcting his angle. I don't see the problem.

Time off is the biggest load of baloney in football.
There was no need for him to call it.
And why do they constantly call it during the late stages of the final quarter and not earlier in matches?

Re: Worst AFL media person..

I understand where people are coming from, regarding Eddie and his COI.
However, I just don't see the difference between him and the remainder of the commentators who are involved in AFL boards, or have significant involvement at other clubs - and there are plenty.
He's the highest profile.

Eddie pushes the Collingwood agenda with his massive media profile at every opportunity.
James Brayshaw is a bit the same.
Unfortunately they get up on their soapbox and try to gain influence that way.

I don't like it, but they're well within their rights to do it.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter

It's normally out before the new year, but I guess they're waiting on Sedan-Cambrai vote and also to see if Moorook-Kingston gets its act together.
I'd imagine the Riverland draw would be close to completion though, if not done already.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter

It will happen.
If they want to see the competition thrive then one extra week of travel is a small price to pay.

Looking forward to SC being in the comp.

Mark Stevens. Does his best to look like Nick Xenophon and comes across as a little weasel.
The Friday night pressers shit me to tears.

And yeah that Sam McClure needs a good kick to the head.

I hate Mark Stevens, he shits me too. When he's asking a coach a question in the Friday night post match presser you can tell they want to get up out of their chair and go punch him in his weasel face.

I feel the same way sitting on my lounge. The missus takes away anything sharp when he comes on the TV.

Re: Brisbane 2016

Gotta give the guy a chance to have a crack without injuries/go home 5. This will be his first real crack at a season.
Hopefully he's up to standard .

I think he lacks the shrewdness, cunning and tactical nous to be a good senior coach.

We will be bottom of the ladder after round 1 and unlikely to rise much higher.

See I've heard the exact opposite. From all reports he has all of those qualities in bucketloads.

It's his attitude that has got him in trouble.

Maybe not

Re: Riverland Football Chatter

What happened at the tribunal regarding the incident at Lyrup?

The tribunal hearing has been adjourned due to other factors coming into play. Have heard Lyrup's fate will be decided after the finals have finished.
I'd be interested to know what the other factors are. I heard there was quite the carry on after the hearing last night at league headquarters.

From what I understand the tribunal hearing is the least of his worries.
