Re: Things that make you sad.

You’re having a bit of a tough time at the moment LM. Call up a good mate, go out and have a beer and off load. A good mate will be happy to listen and being able to talk to someone relieves so much pressure.

Keep your chin up.

Thanks JTC, after spending 15 years running a club, harbouring everyone else's problems I tend to be a bit of a loner now, this place is probably my escape.

Unfortunately my mum is very ill at the moment, this has hit her immensely as she would usually go and see him on a Saturday morning, she had been in Europe for a couple of weeks and got really sick in London where she spent the last 3 days of her trip bedridden, she was unable to go see him Saturday and feels a bit responsible, I can't even talk to her at the moment but I'm hoping she's up for some company this afternoon.

Don’t let her harbour that guilt LM. It will just eat away at her. Do whatever you can to make sure she has a purpose to live and not just a life of guilt. Losing loved ones, no matter when or how always makes you question yourself. Could I have done more, did they know how much they were loved and hardest of all maybe, how am I going to carry on now they’ve gone. Especially for the older generation who might have shared 50 or more years together.

It’s hard for them as they tend to have so little in common with younger generations that they feel isolated. Your job is to make sure your mum feels part of your life. I’m sure you will be excel mate.

Re: I need to know....

Anyone here suffer from sleep apnea? I have a test coming up soon as the missus is ready to kill me keeping her up every night snoring and carrying on. I'm always tired during the day and I've had a gutsful. Apparently the sleep apnea machines work wonders. How much are the machines and do they take a bit of getting used to?
I have CSA apparently. Mrs JTC says I just stop breathing, sometimes for 20 to 30 seconds. Sometimes for so long she nudges me to get me breathing again. I doesn’t help that I’m virtually an insomniac.

Re: 2018 Broadcast Coverage

Thank Christ for Life FM.
Commentary on the digital pass was a joke, two people talking drivel whilst the game went on in the back ground. FFS, doesn’t anyone at sanfl actually watch this shit. Waltsh is totally clueless about the sanfl. Does he even know who the teams are. And the girl on with him sat and waffled garbage for the entire time I could hear to listen.

Watched the 2nd half with the vol off and life fm on. Even though there was about 20 second delay, it was inifinately better than the verbal diarrhoea being spruiked by Walsh and his no nothing side kick.

I enjoy reading / seeing people succeed.
Sadly in Britain we seem to have a culture that celebrates failure and wants the successful to fail. Irrespective that those successful ones employ people and generate wealth for the country.

Finally before you are all bored to death

These are the beams from the ‘new’ part of the house dating to around 1616.

These all run at right angles to to older ones

This is that stone lintel I mentioned. Sorry I got the lettering a bit mixed

It actually reads 1616 HB NR EM

The scratched ‘graffiti’ above reads JM 1781

Re: Soooooo, how's this weather?

Great photos JTC.

Have you found out what the initials HB NR EM stand for yet? not yet FC but Mrs Claret is working on it. We think the NR might be the Robinson family who lived here.

It seems a grand old stone for a modest farmhouse, but our previous house had a carved stone, although this time set into the wall outside. We lived only 3 miles away from where we are now but on the other side of the hill.. we don’t know how old that house was other than it was originally an old coaching house. This was an Inn that served as a stopover for coaches where the driver and passengers could stop for the night and the horses could be tended.

In the attic there was two small windows cut into the stones gable ends. A square one at one end and a round one at the other. This is common around our parts and is meant to keep out bad sprits and to let bad sprits pass out. The original stone steps leading to the 1st floor are still partially there. We also found the well which was covered up and the remains of the stable.

It became a farm in the 1770’s, possibly earlier with a milking shed and 2 separate barns, all of which have been converted into houses now. All the land around is still farmed by the Binns family. That stone I mentioned earlier was carved with the initials MTD Binns 1772. We always though it funny.

Anyway, part of our land had an old limestone kiln and workings. Part of the old workings was a building with and old fireplace.. The original roof had gone and replaced the one that was there. The kiln was there to process the lime from the old limestone quarry just across the lane from our house. The quarry is known as The Witches Quarry and is named so because word has it, it was where old ma Demdyke made her pact with the devil.

The quarry is quite well known by rock climbers and gets popular in the summer. I think there might even be a club. I know there was at least 1 climbing fatality during the time we lived there. The kids and their mates would camp there until they found out about Ma Demdyke :D

Re: Things that make you sad.

I attended a funeral yesterday for a friends mother and spoke to some friends about what lies ahead for us all.

In the last 20-25 years we've all married, had children, built homes and lives, become the people we are and with our friends developed relationships with those you know and love. The next 20-25 will be filled with loss as our ageing parents leave us.

Seems a little unfair that just as you find life unfolding as you would have hoped there's a bend in the road ahead that's unavoidable.

The groups overwhelming sense was to make the most of every day, be the person you want to be. Love and be loved.

That’s the cycle of life. Because you associate with the same age group, generally, then you tend to all have the same cycle. 18th birthday parties, 21st’s, then engagement parties, weddings, christening’s.

Then as you mature, funerals, your parents, aunties and uncles, and your friends parents, and it seems that the only time you get together is at a funeral.

Then the sun comes up again, your kids 18th, 21st’s, weddings, your friends kids weddings, grandkids, grandkids christening’s, friends grandkid’s christenings.

Personally, I think I’m enjoying this time more than the first time around. There’s nothing warmer than a granddaughter wanting a hug from grandad.

And at the end of the day................. you hand them back to mum and dad. You just can’t beat having grandkids.

Re: Norwood v Centrals Fri 1920

If the coach didn't have this 1 year agreement he would be under enormous scrutiny . He cant be sacked if you think about it.
Is the coach responsible for recruiting, numbers, who, how much.
How many premierships has Laird taken the Bulldogs to?

Yes I know but you have missed the point. Yeah most SANFL club coaches are involved with recruiting . Do you think his premiership record is relevant today ? LOL . No one is questioning his record .
You are questioning him though.
And most sanfl clubs have a recruiting panel. The coach will tell them who he’d like but it is their job to and get em. Do you think Laird is happy with the team and the quality he has to work with.

And to suggest his Premiership record isn’t relevant is an insult to his achievements, made with the right squad of players, so yes I think it is very relevant actually as it proves he has the ability to coach s winning team.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

As soon as the big bucks came in the AFL was ******, just the same as the Premier League.
The style to me is sterile an boring. Sadly the sanfl clubs spend most of their time trying to emulate that style. It comes off crap because we don’t have the skills to make it work. So we end up with a game littered with errors.

At the end of the day it was the dumbass club presidents who voted the AFL Reserves in, (Well most of them). They were toothless and no matter what bull dust they were being fed, they still had a choice and could have said **** off. But they didn’t and until the sanfl commission grows some balls and kicks the reserves out, we are stuck with them.

You can either accept that fact and live with it, or not accept that fact and move on, sadly like many have done already. You can even partly accept it and boycott the games involving the reserves as many do now. It still comes back to the same thing, it is down to the idiots running our league that need to wake up before it’s too late.

As for the Port boys that come on here, LMA, Booney, Morrell, etc., personally I have no issue with them barracking for their team and wanting the best for their club. (Isn’t that what the argument is all about, us wanting the best for our clubs?). I don’t care about Port Adelaide playing in the AFL, that ship sailed long ago.

I only have an argument when someone comes on here (the sanfl thread) just to either bag it when they don’t follow the league, or blindly claim that the reserves playing in the sanfl is anything but only for the benefit of the two AFL clubs. Or like some who say “get over it”, without an inclination of the frustration the sanfl supporter feels about the current situation.

To be fair to LMA, I’m not sure he has ever claimed anything else.

The self service checkouts at shopping centres.

I always use them because they are handy, but I have a tendency of leaving the money in the dispenser when I try to take money out at the same time.

On this occasion I took money out to give to a work colleague today so I didn't realize until I got to work.

No doubt the disrespected moron will let me know of my stupidity when I tell her.
Mrs Claret told me they had self service checkouts at the supermarkets now. I don’t know how they work though.

seeing as you are a married man i would have thought you would know all about self service....

Re: North v Centrals Sunday 1410

Why would you quit a club mid-year, he's turned things around numerous times in the past. Also, it's all well & good to get rid of the coach, but replace him with whom? It's up to the club, if they think it's time for Roy to go, then they need to do some background work first & attempt to find a suitable replacement.

They’ll need to recruit some players that are above mediocre standard. Doesn’t matter who is in charge, it you don’t have the cattle you’re gonna lose more than you win.
