Re: INS and OUTS for 2019

Looks like Sumner ain’t coming. Bays won’t budge on $30k transfer fee and we said GFC.

Fair enough bays are kidding themselves.

Disappointed to see Glenelg play hardball on a guy they apparently never want back at their club; they are missing out on thousands of dollars at absolutely no gain to them. I didn't think they were in so strong a financial position that they would kiss 'money for nothing' goodbye (not even getting their 'chicks for free'). It wasn't so long ago their financial situation was in Dire Straits.
It also doesn't help the development of a young footballer.

stampy are you saying Sumner is back at Glenelg?

@spargo yeah he played an internal last night

Am glad that Timmy is getting another chance with the Tigers. I have a feeling he is going to excel this year, making the $24 000 Glenelg rejected for him a wise investment in a young man with a lot to offer. I just hope he doesn't play his best games against us :D

Re: Thebarton Oval

Really ? Havent heard that before . Have you thought about reporting this ? You're keen getting to the games that early . You should let the SANFL know , as that is terrible if true. I assume you dont attend from those comments but you should go . Get a bit of SANFL about ya.
I still say the 2 best grounds are Glenelg and Unley. Great atmosphere .

Brett, being a council park, it can't be helped that there are dog remains on Unley Oval on match day mornings. Not all owners of dogs do the right thing and collect them. This has resulted in the first people present at Unley Oval having to patrol the surface for these remains on match days. On occasion, this has been opposition officials and players.
Yes, I do go, and have been going for fifty years.
You are entitled to your opinions re Glenelg and Unley Ovals though, just stating some facts. It is not Sturt's fault that Unley Oval has the feel of being a temporary ground. After all, that is what it is - a council park for six days out of seven, a temporary football oval for one day of the week. As for Glenelg Oval, I agree - it is a tremendous location for football. IMHO, it rivals Richmond Oval as the best venue to watch football at. I find Norwood Oval to be an oval I don't feel comfortable at. The close proximity of the concrete wall to the playing surface always has me shuddering inside about the risk of injury to players. Possibly the fact that we rarely win there doesn't help either. :D

Re: End of season Retirements and move ons

Try being honest about this just for ONCE. Norwood have been rorting the salary cap as long as there has been one. Disregard for any other club is fair enough BUT this is blatant and the SANFL continue to allow it. Olsen and his board WILL NOT act responsibly and investigate. How can 1 club have 14 paid receptionists that just happen to be engaged/married to current players. "Salary cap rort" Nah not on the Parade !!

Actually, 15, The partner of their new recruit from Victoria just attained employment there yesterday.

Re: Centrals announce new coach - Jeff Andrews

He's got a difficult job ahead of him. Doesn't matter how good a coach he may or may not be, we need about 5 new quality players. Hope he can bring some.
Recruiting has never been easy for us, particularly since reductions in the salary cap. Being located a bit further out from the CBD than most clubs unfortunately does seem to have an impact on players' decisions. Sadly there is nothing we can do about this except try to gain employment for players in the Elizabeth area. Unfortunately we don't have the money to employ 15 receptionists at the club ;)

Glenelg won the flag with the same cap restrictions

True, and well done on that premiership. It is just that I have three friends playing SANFL who have told me they would be at Central except for the fact they don't want to commute 45 minutes each way for training after a full day of work when they can play for a club just around the corner from their work. The financial benefits they receive are not worth their commute. I imagine that South Adelaide also face a similar problem in recruiting.

Re: Grade Cricket

For how long is Grade Cricket going to be the 'fall guy' for the poorer performances of the Redbacks? WA has sixteen teams in Premier cricket but don't see that as a problem. Tasmania, with less than a third of SA's population, has nine teams. The Redbacks problems go a lot deeper than Grade cricket. Besides, the State selectors don't even appear to look at Grade Cricket performances when selecting their teams.

Re: Finance Troubles

Reading some comments on here , it sounds like Centrals have been poorly managed ? A coach who stayed too long and the club not rejuvenating . The lights were a big hit financially apparently.
No one has mentioned fans have dropped off due to being spoiled for success and not really Footy followers ?? Just a thought

Brett, after which of his premierships would you personally have sacked him if you think Roy coached for too long?? His first, second, third... or seventh????????? We only missed out on yet another grand final by a couple of kicks a couple of years ago and only missed the finals twice in his 17 year reign. When would you have sacked him?????????????
As for your (and you appear to be the only person in the football world to even suggest Central have 'financial trouble' btw'), tell us more please. To what extent have Central had more financial trouble than most SANFL clubs???? To suggest we have been poorly managed... where is your evidence of that please???

Perhaps stick to something you know how to do a bit more.? like blowing hot air out of your cerebrum.

Re: 2020 Player movement

We have definitely recruited well in numbers but will be interesting to see what sort of quality.

The last two recruits the South bloke and the NTFL Thunder guy have played alot more ressies than league football which doesnt stack up greatly to being a successful SANFL league player.

I'm optimistic but very cautious.

Joel Budarick, (the NTFL Thunder guy), to be fair, did play every game in the NEAFL League team after his debut (he only turned 18 in September), plus he was co-captain of the NT Under 18 Academy team and played 18 league games of the 2018/19 NT summer for Nightcliff, culminating in winning the premiership. Not a bad pick-up.

Email sent to Glenelg members today.
One last parting dig from Glenn Elliott before he retires ;)

Why didn't he call on the other 7 clubs to bring the passion and atmosphere?

I've been to Westies and South games (not involving Port) where the cracking of a can resonated around the oval.

Ancient history... hardly any this millennium.

Considering the competition seriously deteriorated in 1990 and then again in 1997 you'd have thought we'd have won more in a competition where it should be easier to win premierships.

Just shows how much more difficult it has been to win premierships since 1997, only an amazing team surely could win 9 in this time ;)

Re: Travel Cards

Sorry if this has been discussed before but does anyone have any Travel Card recommendations.

Was just going to go with Commonwealth Bank, as i bank with them and im sure their product is a quality service even if it isn't the best price/exchange rate/fees etc.

Probably would be negligent though not to investigate the options out there though.
I'm also with the Commonwealth and use their travel card when overseas, has worked well for me in the past. Easy to add funds via their mobile app, so whilst the exchange rates are probably not optimal, the trade off is in the convenience. You'll pay a fee if you use it at an ATM, not sure about other fees though.

Also, travel cards a good idea if you're in places that don't have a cash aspect to their economy (for example, tipping in the US).

I think that you will find there isn't much between the rates being charged on each of the major financial institutions' cards; just use the one you do your general banking with and you should be fine. The only problem is getting back any money you have left on the card when you return. With my bank, you need to submit a form and then wait a few weeks, you can't just transfer it back into your account. On learning that, I just decided to use the card until my balance ran out.

Re: US

Germany was national socialism.
Everyone was expected to work towards the good of the state.

The only thing socialist about the National Socialist German Workers’ Party was that it had socialist in the title.

Your theory has been thoroughly debunked, over and over and over and over.

We could say the same of the Liberal Party today - the only thing 'liberal' is its name. It is a conservative party, not a liberal one.
Cheers
Not sure I'd agree. It's 'liberal' in the sense that it espouses (at least if you pay any heed to its founder's guiding principles) the notions of classical liberalism - small government, low taxes, a laissez-faire free market economy, individual liberties, protection of private property etc.

I'd say it the Liberal Party contains elements towards the right end of the continuum that embrace a conservative ideology (which, at its core, is having faith in tradition and experience over reason), along with the classical liberal proponents whom are referred to as 'moderates'.

Conservatives and classical liberals tend to flock together, I think, because they both advocate limited government, the former due to skepticism (their experience means they don't trust enlarged government and perceived interferences), and the latter from a utopian or rational point of view.

Re: Abbott/Liberal Govt Watch

Ah well, we’ve got your word for it.
And Dan Andrews is therefore an effing liar
I’ve never met Scott Morrison so don’t know whether he is or isn’t what you say
But if your cousin is speaking out of school, then he probably deserves how he’s treated
I speak to my family all of the time and you’re amazingly arrogant to assume otherwise considering you don’t know me or them.
Cheers

Well, that matches your arrogance and rudeness in your previous post stating that the only reason my cousin would contact me would be to break national security (which he didn't), so I guess we are even. I do apologise for my comment though.

No, my cousin is not speaking out of school; he is just frustrated at the way he is muzzled by Scott Morrison. In his interview today, you could also see that Dan Andrews wanted to close schools but all premiers have taken a vow to follow the national stance set by Scott Morrison.

Now for a critique of the current situation, IMHO:
Knowing that immunologists and infectious disease experts (Bill Bowtell, David Caldicott just to mention two) are saying that we need to act early and decisively and that there are now 73 countries who have either fully (56) or partially (17 – in major cities) closed schools, here are my humble thoughts on how this can be done in Australia so as to keep people safe and with very little financial or personal cost or interruption to key services:

It is much safer to have children and young adults in small groups rather than in schools of up to 1500, that is pretty clear. We also need to ensure that people’s work lives are not limited too much (particularly if they are in essential services). We can do this by ‘Australians being Australians’, by ‘being community’, by ‘caring for one another’.

IMHO, we can have small groups of families work together to achieve this in the following way: A few families (limited to approx. 6 or 7 children) team together to look after the children of each family. Each parent who can either work from home, or who is willing to take a day off work (with pay from the government, as the cost involved will be a lot less than the health cost involved if Covid-19 takes off) can take it in turns to look after the children. Each parent would be required for up to one day per week. Parents who work in essential services (e.g. health workers, law enforcement officers) can be exempted from this. If we can’t get enough parents for a group, then school staff (each with their own Working With Children clearance) can be involved. This could all be coordinated at the local school level.

Grandparents would not be needed to do more than they already do (in fact, if they wish at this time, their contact with children can be reduced… to keep them safe).

We have world-best technologies available for teaching remotely (SEQTA, Educator Perfect, Zoom, Skype, Moodle, Podcasts. Screencasts, Kahoot… just to name a few) plus we can have constant contact with emails to and from students. This will ensure that teaching can still be extremely productive whilst schools are closed.

As an educator, I care about the young adults entrusted to me, their families, my fellow staff and the wider community. I believe we need to act early. Do our leaders care enough about their community to take this bold action? I pray they do. I believe we are better than our Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, believes we are. With good parenting and care for children, they will not be aimlessly wandering down malls.

With kind regards and prayers,

Re: Abbott/Liberal Govt Watch

And you mate - keep well.

I’ve just heard from my HK pilot mate that a plane from London just landed in HK with 30 positives.
On Saturday, David Hayes said he was going back to Hong Kong and that it was 6 weeks ahead of Australia which I agree with, but people have to take responsibility; and they’re not.
International travel appears to be the biggest problem but, hey, that’s the 21st Century

This morning I attended a Board meeting and was told that 60% of the population will get it by June.
Personal experience tells me healthy people will be OK but we need to protect the old and frail.

Bummer, 30 positives is a horrible statistic to hear.
At the exponentional rate of increase, that statistic of 60% is probably pretty right. Thankfully, Australia is getting nearly an extra 100,000 testing kits by the end of the week.
Am a bit worried personally: diabetic bordering on daily insulin use, obese (my own bloomin fault) bronchial problems and approaching 60. I will hang in there as long as I can though; I love my students and will do everything I can for them, to the very end. There are a lot worse though, and those are the ones, as you beautifully state, Jimmy, that we need to be very careful about.
I do a lot of volunteering with St Vinnies. Sadly, we received a directive today that we can no longer carry out home visitations to our blessed Companions. We are going to still do our best though; will take food parcels to them and leave them at the door.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

Have decided to post here what I did in another forum:

Current thoughts: With Jacinda Ardern deciding to close all New Zealand schools as of Wednesday, that will leave Australia and Mexico as the only two OECD countries not to have closed schools. When looking at the Mexican President's thoughts about the issue, this gets extremely scary for Australian teachers and schoolchildren:

'But it is the president’s personal attitude that has Mexicans puzzled. He continues to attend mass public rallies, shaking hands and kissing babies. Asked how he was protecting Mexico, López Obrador removed two religious amulets from his wallet and proudly showed them off.

“The protective shield is the ‘Get thee behind me, Satan,’” López Obrador said, reading off the inscription on the amulet, “Stop, enemy, for the Heart of Jesus is with me.”

If Morrison is following the same reasoning for not closing schools as Mexico is, he better have a mighty big Hillsong rabbit's foot!!!

I really feel for Mexico. I am religious person, but his religious beliefs are way too trusting!!

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

Still no evidence of community spread of CV in Australia, every case so far has been linked to an OS traveller.

Well, hardly surprising, look at the categories you need to fulfil for testing: You have to have been overseas to be tested, or be a contact of a person who has travelled overseas (which of course is listed as being linked to an OS traveller).
If you can't be tested unless you are linked to an OS traveller, then it is impossible for them to have anyone else; it isn't rocket science ;)

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

My last comments on this topic, because it is getting me frustrated and so down: All I will say is that when two of the experts on Q&A come down in favour of closing the schools and even the Deputy CMO says that closing schools would save lives I cannot see any reason at all for not closing schools.
If it is going to save lives, I say go for it. I will always say people before the economy. I have travelled to some of the less financial countries on earth and people are happier as they have to rely on one another. That is why I am moving to the Philippines in a few years.
Happiness doesn't come through money but through relationships. I would rather have more people alive but slightly less financial than thousands dead in order to make people more wealthy.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

My sister spends a lot of time in hospitals as a patient and is a fairly tough cookie. Anyway last week she developed a fever (which she never usually does) so her GP told her to go to the Repat for testing. She contacted them and they (eventually) said yes we’ll see you, then said the earliest available booking is 8 days away

In 8 days she would have either been dead or coming good, but either way would have infected a lot of people along the way.

JK, tell her to get a referral from her doctor, then just drive to the Repat Collection Clinic; they won't turn her away. I received my referral at 8:00pm on Saturday and went there at 9:00am on Sunday morning. I was in and out in five minutes. I wasn't going to do it because it does say to phone for an appointment first, but my sister (who is a nurse) urged me to. Wasn't sure they would see me, but they didn't even raise an eyebrow when they saw the form.. Hoping she is okay.
Cheers

Cheers bud, appreciate it. Turns out it she was back to normal (well as normal as my sister can be lol) by the next day. I was just a bit staggered by the process and potential community risk. Glad yours went ok too mate, we gotta get through this so we can hang shit in each other’s clubs again when the worlds in better order :D

So glad to hear that, JK. Yes, sisters are never normal, particularly if they are older ones ;)

Yes, the only one I can hang shit on at the moment is your captain, and I can't even do that whilst I am self-isolating lol

Btw, just saw the recommendations of the Group of 8, a group of academics advising the national cabinet - they have recommended total school closures. Will be interesting to see if it happens as a result of tonight's meeting of the Cabinet.

Today's figures were still cause for concern, 427 new cases, an increase of 25%; that curve sure is refusing to flatten at the moment!

Hopefully, the measures enacted earlier this week and anything from tonight's session will start to make that curve die off, rather than us die off!

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

Outcomes from the meeting between the Education Minister and the IEU:

• The impact of closures on non-teaching staff needs to be addressed urgently in the event of closures. Given the substantial level of public funding from the federal government to non-government schools, that all support staff remain employed and paid

What does this part mean, surely teachers and non teaching staff realise that if there is no work there is no employment, just like the everyone else???
Teachers will be still be teaching from home? Why wouldn't they be getting paid?

I would have thought there would be efficiencies, i.e. a year 10 maths class could be attended by many more online than what would in a classroom. Therefore do you need as many teachers in an online scenario?

We are not teaching machines; we are educating young people.

A critical part of this is the individual relationship with the young person. Just because a person is online does not mean that they deserve less of our attention.

Each student will still have their own questions, their own queries. Each one will have their own need for an adult to assist them. Each student needs to be given the opportunity to grow at their own pace. This is done by having a relationship with the young person.

If anything, online education may require more time with the young person individually, and creates that opportunity. I would love to have a five minute individual session with each student every day, not only for teaching purposes but also to pastorally care for them.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

This is the problem
My brother had a dry cough but no fever or a temperature.
The doctor said he didn't have it but tested anyway. A few days later he gets a phone call
14 days of it and he still doesn't have a temperature (in fact any symptoms now) but is still testing positive.
He's running on a treadmill for 2 hours every day

Temperature testing does not work if you don't have a high temperature and not all infected people have a temperature

Fascinating! The virus lives from one extreme to another.

Imagine how many asymptomatic kids are still at school

This is what concerned me and why I posted a lot - to try to get people to realise how serious the school situation was. Most shedders are asymptomatic; most young people are asymptomatic. Covid-19 in asymptomatic people is very scary, like a stealth bomber going undetected until it strikes someone who it can do some nasty work on. A lot of teachers in schools are over 50 and with various risk factors (e.g. diabetic, high blood pressure)
I better go, reached my daily limit of posts imposed by Mein Fuhrer Bum Crack ;)

Mate its not just schools that have risks, for some teachers they are only exposed to 30 kids for the day, some other workers are exposed to hundreds every day, think about Centrelink workers currently for example.

I appreciate everything Teachers do for our kids, they are really committed to their jobs, but gee don't we hear about it when things don't got their way.

Couldnt agree more! Think of Woolies, Foodland staff etc. At least teachers have somewhat control over the people within their space.

Sorry, just had to make one more comment on this (and it is after midnight, so Mein Fuhrer should allow me).

If you think it is just for teachers that we are doing this, think again please!

A number of experts in the field, learning that I was a teacher who had to be tested for this virus (Mr Bill Bowtell, Dr David Caldicott, Dr David Allen, Dr Alan Baxter) asked me on Twitter to get this message out to people before it was too late. Thankfully, Dr Norman Swan has also joined in this, calling for us to absolutely smash Covid-19, not just mitigate it. It is the information from these esteemed experts in the field that I am sharing. I am just a standard teacher, they are the experts. The points I am making come from them, not so much from me.

WHO studies in Vu, Massachusetts, Iceland and Wuhan have all proven that most transference is from asymptomatic individuals. Most young people who contract Covid-19 are asymptomatic. The age range that most school parents fall into (20-39) is overrepresented in the statistics. You would expect it to be much lower than for older people; it is at the same level for the 60's age group and above those for 70's and 80's.

Is there a possible connection between school parents being hit hard by Covid-19 and it being passed on asymptomatically in schools? The jury is still out on that one. We can only know if we start testing asymptomatic schoolchildren - which it doesn't look as if it is going to happen for a long, long time. However, are we prepared to take the risk that it isn't being transferred, or do we value human life?

Asymptomatic shedding is the worst kind of shedding as it is like a stealth bomber. If it is in schools, it can be moving from one child, to another child, to another child, then to an adult, another adult etc. without maybe being detected until it hits someone really hard. If this is possibly happening, shouldn't we err on the side of caution??

Who are people like us concerned for? Well, for one; any bus driver transporting the students, assistants at shops whom the young people may visit to buy a drink from on the way home, cleaners (after medical staff, trust us, these guys are the real heros - very much on the front line of dealing with the virus!), medical staff who may need to deal with cases arising from these transferences, parents, children (always the number one concern of teachers).. and YOU, the general community.

Additionally, closing down schools will be the one real way of sending a message to young people that they will actually listen to. At the moment, as their life is less altered than the rest of society, they still seem to have a feeling of 'immunity', that it can't happen to them, that their life can be continued pretty much as is.

I teach at a school that is regarded (rightly or wrongly) as a fairly academic school. You would think that Year 12s at this school would be bright enough to follow social distancing rules, wouldn't you? Well, at least we would hope so. Unfortunately, it is not so easy for young adults to always remember to social-distance. Just about every classroom I go into, there will be students friendly gangtackling one another or similar. This is a mentality that is very difficult to stop - think back to when you were in the 14- to-18 age group. If it is hard for this age group, I am sure it is even harder for the younger ones. Social distancing in schools is incredibly hard to implement and enforce - it is a losing battle!

Many young people think they are invincible and call this virus the 'exit boomer virus'. In fact, some people on here seem to be reinforcing that opinion, and also a lot on the media. Well, not only can it be passed on from children to adults, but it can also have a severe impact on children.

They are now in ICUs on ventilators gasping for breath, in fact some are even dying!! Until we can get young people to realise they are not invincible, their actions won't change.

I just wish you could see this, I know that a number of you can... but those of you who said that the campaign for closing schools was just about 'precious teachers' PLEASE think again, please! This is for YOUR life as much as it is for any teacher. We really need to absolutely SMASH this virus immediately. It can be done with a total lockdown for a period of 8 to 12 weeks, with then domestic activities opened up again, but not allowing any international movements until a vaccine is found. However, rather than the 6 to 12 month partial closures that those calling for mitigation seek, a TOTAL lockdown only needs to be for that 8 to 12 week period.

Anyway, I hope I got through to some of you. If I didn't and I see some more 'teacher bashing' comments on here tomorrow, you will have succeeded and will not be hearing from me again on this topic. I promised that the other night, but it was too important an issue to leave. If I can't get through now, then I never will!

Sorry about the incredibly long rant, but if ever an issue was important enough to warrant one, it is this one!

Cheers and good health to each and every one of you.

Re: SANFL 2020 Season

Butcher back at the doggies.

Playing reserves this week

Was getting $2k per game in NT, so big paycut back to zero!!
not playing this time of year in the NT, was a member of our coaching staff but has been persuaded to play again, great pick up I reckon.

Definitely, one thing that was evident we were missing last week was a key forward. Our desire for the ball was there, we had a lot more possessions than Sturt but didn't have the key forward to capitalise on this. Butch will give us this option. Now we just need to improve our skills.... they were deplorable last week :o

Re: SANFL 2020 Season

Be great if we did away with draws, they really suck.

Yes totally agree.

2 qtrs of 5 mins each extra time. Then either 2nd extra qtr doesn't finish until a score wins the game or else set shots from 50m line until there is a winner.
I agree draws suck but totally disagree with extra time. You’ve had the best part of two hours to win the game, if you can’t do it in that time well...

I must be in the minority here but I quite like the concept of draws. Neither side truly deserved to win yesterday... but neither side truly deserved to lose either. West would have been hard done by to lose after their great start, whilst Central would have been hard done by to lose after their great comeback. I happily accept the draw... especially as it now means that Norwood are bottom ;)

Re: Round 2 West Adelaide v Central District

The Dogs had 7 replacements from Round One and a new coaching emphasis that they are adjusting too.
Plus a whole bunch of kids who are doing well, but are inconsistent as is to be expected with the youth.
Getting smashed in the clearances over the first two matches (lots of smaller frames), but look to be good on the break.

A few returning this week, depth isn't an issue. Just the experienced performers. Damn, we could have been a threat with Menzels and Butch up fwd.

Agreed, there were lots of positives to take out of yesterday. We could have easily given the game up after being 39 points down early, or 30 points down in time-on in the third, or after West kicked the first goal of the last quarter. Our boys have fight and spirit, and that is great to see!
The performance of Nick Lange over the first two weeks has been fantastic and Butch looked like a man with a lot still to offer. Our Ressies are unbeaten; from that team we have our two Victorian recruits (Wilde and Toner) now available and getting match fitness and Travis is now ready for league action. Btw, does anyone know who number 63 was for our Ressies? A very tall player who was not named in the budget. His height could be useful in weeks to come.

Re: SANFL 2020 Season

Latest premiership odds;

South - $3.75
North - $4.00
WWT - $4.00
Glenelg - $4.50
Norwood $9.00
Sturt - $13
West - $26
Centrals - $81

This cant be serious???

No way South are favourites!!

Disagree. On current form I think they’re clearly the best side.
I think the Eagles are the form team. We haven't played North or Norwood yet. Heck, even West will be a test after they beat Glenelg last game.

But you have played the Eagles... and beaten them

Re: SANFL 2020 Season

These are some very good players for the Eagles and the other clubs named.

My concern, however, is do we even need them? The current blokes on our list have busted their a$s on the training track and have been playing very well. Most of them are not good enough to play AFL and they know it. They are playing for the love of the club and the game. I would imagine many of these imports are coming across with one goal - to play several games this year and potentially grab a spot on an AFL list next year. They aren't coming for the $$ - apparently SANFL players are playing for free. So clearly its a a bit of a selfish attitude. Footy mercenaries. Once the season ends do they intend to stick around and play next year? Or will they pack their bags and head home immediately if they don't get drafted? I'm a bit concern that their presence might disrupt the fabric of the clubs involved.

Given how well your mob are travelling I think thats a fair concern. Flipside might be a player goes undrafted but loves it there and stays for future seasons? Provided the coach sticks to his guns and only selects players based on their form (which by all accounts JS would) I think you'll be right.
It must be tough being an Eagles supporter at the moment.
I'd love to swap places with you.. ...you are top of the ladder top in the 2s basically and 2 top recruits on there way.
My club is bottom with a fairly big injury list which includes our number 1 recruit Daniel Menzel.

This is a season that we will just have to write off, apart from being able to blood a few new young players.
Even before the season started, we were in trouble when our two key interstate recruits. Nanscawen and Bunsworth, both remained in Victoria due to Covid-19. We also had our 'x-factor' player, Isaya McKenzie, out for the season with a leg injury, along with probably our most reliable best player, Travis Schiller, out for the first few rounds with a foot fracture. Round 1 didn't help when our key forward Daniel Menzel was ruled out for the rest of the season. Our other tallish recruit, Ben Kelly, also injured himself and has been out for a few weeks. One of the very few players left at the club with any height, Connor McLean, also missed the first four rounds with injury and is only now starting his return through the Ressies.

Added to this, we saw Butch (thank God for his return!) injure his hammie and now miss a few. So, now we have missing from our forward line pretty much all our key players (certainly the only ones with any height): Menzel, McLean, Kelly, Butcher, McKenzie, Falkenberg. We have had to 'rob Peter to pay Paul' by moving Muzza Stephenson from his key defensive position to the forward lines. Added to this, we have had both Schiller boys out injured from our midfield and even Hoskin was out for a couple.

As such, we were always going to be up against it this year so need to look for positives... and there have been a few. The form of ball-magnet, James Boyd, has been wonderful... thank God for coming back to us, James! Butch has proven that he is still a formidable presence up forward. Ryan Llewellyn has been a steady performer down back (now out injured unfortunately... sums up this season) and both Chris Olsson and Nick Lange have shown some excellent football skills. A few more of the young players have also shown something... Jack Toner, Brody Thompson, Wyatt Patterson, Rhett Montgomerie, Corey Durdin, Marcus Barreau, Dylan Weaver, Darcy Pisani. Added to that, the veteran campaigners, Trent Goodrem, Kyle Jenner and Justin Hoskin have all been invaluable (when not injured).

Yes, 2020 was almost over before it started for us... but there are signs of a good future ahead.

Re: ROUNDS 8-12 FIXTURE

The next three weeks present us with our best opportunity for a win... if we can get enough fit players onto the park; Glenelg at home, Sturt away and West at home. Hoping, but not expecting, for at least one win.... it may be a zero win season if we don't capture one of these.
On a good news front, we have a new assistant coach joining us. Jeff's former assistant at Werribee is now living in Adelaide so is likely to join him in the box from next week.

Jeff was an assistant at Werribee. So this guy was an assistants assistant? Need a bigger coaches box with all his helpers.

Yes, I should have said 'Jeff's former fellow assistant coach', but heck, the way we are going, we will settle for assistants of assistants of assistants of assistants. We may be asking Big Phil (who btw is now medium Phil... well done on that, my friend!) to don his boots next week the way we are going. After all, he is taller than Gazza and I ;)

Re: Round 7 Centrals v Glenelg Saturday 1410

We have struggled to put together a first quarter all season, being blown out of the water by Sturt, West, Norwood and the Eagles in the first quarter.. or quarter and a bit; down by 5 or 6 goals in each match.
However, if (and it is a huge if) we can do that tomorrow, you never know.

Re: Round 7 Centrals v Glenelg Saturday 1410

Can't really question the effort of the boys; sadly, we are still making horrible skill errors that are costing us dearly. Glenelg scored 7 goals on Saturday from our basic turnovers with sloppy disposal, both kicks and handballs not hitting targets. Eliminate those (or at least severely reduce them) and we could jag one of the next two games.

Some good signs in the Ressies - Connor McLean and Ben Kelly both played very good games; could certainly bolster our forward line. I would also like to see Fraser Fort back in the one's; also good to see Ryan Falkenberg playing again.

Re: SANFL 2020 Season

SANFL salary cap to be reduced to $250k next season

Reserves to stay but to play for zero.

It was $380k in 2019 wasn't it?

Personally i think they should've scrapped the Reserves, have smaller senior list sizes (30-32 players max), have up to five or six players play in the u/18s and the rest go back to local footy if they're available and not selected in either but i guess playing for nothing is another option. Hopefully we can keep as much talent as we can but that is a big drop in pay for the senior list.

$380k for seven of the ten clubs; over a million for two of the clubs, and whatever they could fit into brown paper bags for the other club ;)

Re: Rd 9 Central v West at X-Con Oval 2:10 pm

Well done to the boys.. (some of us) knew you could do it! ;)
... and, yes, our 'great bloke' can also play football and did his job. For a guy who has been through a lot, well done, Ben. Great to see another 'great bloke' who came out of retirement for us also do a good job, Butch.

Also wonderful to see three more 'great blokes' finally get rewarded with a win after huge efforts this year. Well done, Boydy. Hosko and Goody.

I would rather have a team of 'great blokes' who give their all than a team of FIGJAMs who only care about themselves any day.

Also great to see Fraser and Connor back in the side and being servicable - two more 'great blokes'.
I was also very impressed by Jonno Marsh today. He has responded really well to his being dropped to the Ressies, and come back a much better player.

Re: Grade Cricket

Time for a best ground poll!

Will run a couple. Please post your 5-4-3-2-1 votes for main ovals and also 5-4-3-2-1 votes for second ovals.

You can factor in pitch, outfield, changerooms, clubrooms, viewing for spectators/players, surrounds... or whatever you value most highly.

5 votes (best ground)
4 votes
3 votes
2 votes
1 vote

Main ovals - Bice, Campbelltown, Glandore, Glenelg, Henley, Parkinson, Pertaringa, Port Reserve, Price Memorial, Prospect, Salisbury, University and Woodville

Second ovals - Adelaide High, Broadview, Bulkana, Camden, Colonel Waite, EP Nazar, Henley High, Paddocks, Park 23, St Clair, University #2, Unley and Windsor Gardens

Played on almost all these ovals, but my opinion will be out of date...

Main ovals:
5 - University (loved it was close to Adel Oval, the church bells, the old scoreboard which kept your score and the nice outfield).
4 - Henley Oval (a bit biased, nice sea breeze, never too hot)
3 - Woodville Oval
2 - Parkinson Oval
1 - Salisbury Oval

Second Ovals
5 - Unley Oval (better than Price)
4 - Henley High (better than Henley Oval to play on)
3 - St Clair
2 - Camden
1 - University #2

Main ovals:
5 University (same reasons as Aerie gave... except it was probably not your correct score if 'The Pope' was in the scorebox ;) )
4 Glenelg Oval
3 Henley Oval
2 Campbelltown Oval
1 Salisbury Oval

I won't vote for Second Ovals... unfair as I haven't experienced all of them.

Cheers
