Re: SAAFL Division 7 2014

Henley has as good, if not better, side than Modbury this year. They are ranked too low.

Henley, Modbury & SHOC would fight for top five with GG, PAC & TTG.

Why reply with that tomo

My educated guess on this one.

At the beginning, ump pays free kick, North Pines, being no angels, pipe up. The more they pipe up, the more mickey mouse frees ump pays against them which only pisses them off more, hence walk off.

I doubt there is any completely innocent party here,

Re: SAAFL Division 7 2014

I have read a lot of comment over the last 6 months of the current state and future direction of div 7. C Grade only divs and bad behaviour etc, etc. Whilst it's nice for marbles to speak on SHOC's behalf they are often not aligned with our own opinions.
Firstly we are a long way away from having a D grade for next season so you should not be including us in your C grade super league calculations. As C1 or C2 seems to be our C grades destination next year. We could hardly fill a C grade this year.
Secondly it has nothing to do with the A graders v C graders debate that you put forward that we are struggling for numbers. We have won flags and been competitive in its current state and SHOC's do love the challenge of playing A grade sides. Yes we might retain of few more players if we were in an easier div. But it has more to do with the increase of the opposition dick head factor that has seen a decline in player numbers for SHOCs. We have a lot of blokes these days living the dream overseas or working interstate. More than before and we can't help that. But the dickhead factor has effected the interest in the train once a week, young family man and full time job player that cannot be bothered playing anymore that we could rely on in the past.
We can cop the floggings from Mitchell Park, Ingle Farm, Hougton, Smithfield 2014 as they play the game in the right spirits and respect the word amateur. We have given them out and now we are on the receiving end but that's ok. I have had beers after the game with all these clubs after some beltings and the blokes have been great. It has been the flogs from other clubs that has made our experience in div 7 disappointing and there total lack of any understanding of the word AMATEUR.
Some of the things that have happened in Div 7 over the last 2 years have been appalling for amateur football. Get rid of this and div 7 in its current state is fine. The quicker clubs stop making excuses and address their issues the better things will be for everyone. Look at Smithfield for example and you can see what can be done.

Re: SAAFL Division 7 2014

^^^ I don't play for uni.

My comments came because I witnessed first hand North Pines players belting blokes of the ball. It's also not an isolated incident, if you bother to listen to what other clubs have to say about them this year. That same game, their players constantly argued and abused the umps... So you can see why I'm not surprised that a higher division umpire didn't put up with any of that shit.

Re: SAAFL Division 7 2014

Is that the same Damian Rigney that played at South Adelaide?

Don't want to make excuses or try and justify someone else actions, but given the feedback that came out from the game, could the umpire have played his fair part in creating this situation and is the punishment a bit extreme?

Not trying to create an argument PG- but under no circumstance, no matter how severe, should someone have to resort to racial slurs.

Having recalled reading previous posts concerning racial vilification and race for that matter on this site- I would expect you, along with all posters on this site, to be in agreeance that this act is unacceptable no matter the circumstance. If he is to be found guilty- hope he gets the book thrown at him.

No place for that in society, let alone sport.

I do totally agree with that, and you wont get any arguments from me on that topic, but i'm not defending the bloke, i'm questioning the actual events of the incident and severity of the punishment.

And fair call too mate. I guess the golden rule is, no matter how shit an umpire is- he isn't going to change is mind. Yeah it can cost you a match or a final, but resorting to threats of physical violence (whether literal or aimed at intimidation)/racial slurs is plain wrong and pointless.

Re: Biggest Finals Upsets

I don't think it has anything to do with being old scholars or whether or not you pay players. To me its far more critical that players get along at a club and socialise together, this this makes them a stronger unit and therefore harder to beat in big games. Its easy to point to paid players causing divisions in teams after they lose but nothing would get said if they win. Our bond became much tighter throughout the finals after a few big nights late in the season brought the team closer together and I think that showed through the finals series. I think on grand final day we had 13 old scholars out of the 22 players so not a huge number.

Re: Coaches worth

The players don't get paid in preseason so neither should the coaches.

As for 20-30 hours a week I find that hard to believe. Here is what I see. 2 hours Tuesday night, 2 hours Thursday night, 4 hours Saturday and 2 hours selecting players. 10 hours . There might e a few coaches who tape games and watch them again. Another 2 hours for them. However you are not going over tapes from other teams, watching there practice or getting scout reports. 12 hours is about the
Most I can see. Would love to know where the other hours are spent?

I can not believe how insulting this would be to the coaches, ours in particular, who spend countless hours tiring over their role and going beyond what is asked. I have no doubt more coaches (at least 'A' grade) than not fall into this category.

The head coach of a local footy club is far more than a coach, they are the leader of the club and are instrumental in building its culture.

10 hours. Get stuffed.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 6 - 2015

The Brahma Lodge people just don't get it.

There's nothing wrong with paying players (imo), IF you can do it sustainably. Pay what you can afford.

Your issue is you have ONLY paid players, the ONLY reason these people were playing for your club was because you paid them, nothing else (evidently).

@Groover, I do understand your situation, your club is poorly administrated, and your club offers no value to its A grade players (outside of $$).

To fix your situation, you are choosing to go back down the path that got you in this position in the first place, continue to pay disloyal pea-heart, players and again and blow your false bubble of 'success'. You are not entitled to success.

Groover, if you are a committed, loyal player I would be disgusted at what your admin has done, and would walk out if they again choose to support the disloyal rather than the committed like yourself.

What gives everyone the shits is you've cheated the system. Loyal, honest volunteers and players bust their guts for their clubs and you've robbed them for a chance for success when you were winning and you are going to cheat them all again this year. Plus, you have taken the piss out of the SAAFL's display of good faith who have given your club a chance to rebuild and you are going to spit it back in their face.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 7 - 2015

another off my tree question, but how would houghtons recruiting campaign go if their training sessions were held in metropolitan adelaide rather than asking new players to drive home down mount everest at 8pm at night

if a central accessible location was established for training would the club be more appealing to new players, removing the factor of travelling through mountain goat country landscapes just to get to the ground over & over every week?

It take like 3 mins to get to the TTG pub. 5 mins to get to TTGFC or HVFC.

And you know what, it's accessible by road! You can even drive your car there. Don't even need a 4WD.

So how many players from Mawsons have followed Wayne Knowles to Brahma for coin??

1. and it's no big loss anyway... hardly around the club and only needs 1 hit to the head and he is not playing footy again. But hey, if Knowlesy wants to pay him $300/$350 per game, good luck to the pair of them!

his brother would be the bigger loss outt've the 2. quality backman and a genuine humble guy. no idea if he has left yet though.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 6 - 2015

I think it would be too early to predict where each club will finish. It's still 2014 and they're is plenty of time for clearances and retirements. You'd think that if you had to go by 2014 results that West Croydon and Fitzroy will be up there as early contenders. But you also have to be weary of teams coming down from Div 5 and coming up from Div 7 (As long as they can recruit well and add to their list).
With all the gossip and innuendos about BL and the money they have to throw around. If that is all true then they to will be up there to win the flag. But dont count out Trinity, Lockleys and Central United (they are possibly quite dangerous at home).
Im not sure about the ins and outs (as it is still very early for clearances) for Ingle Farm and Mawsons. But have heard whispers of players leaving.
If I had to make a choice on my tip to win, it would go to West Croydon and I reckon Smithfield will take up the wooden spoon. But like I said I havent seen or heard of clearances to clubs as of yet.
Mate if your tip is for Smithfield to be wooden spoon wow that's a bit to far I'm sure a few more players will come along and seems they smashed every team last year I'm sure if a few more players at to the list then top 4 is we're they will be

Sounds like smithfield are on the up and up which puts pressure on my club to keep moving up because Smithfield are an utter disgrace and belong in the C Grade divisions.

Did you even play/watch them this year?

Or did you think the club was paying to much to some players and not getting your value back on what you are paying them.

No bud. I and the rest of the exec were rapt with the performance of all those players, in particular their commitment to training and club functions. Exactly what you want really.

I'm 100% in control of the contract negotiations this year and the decision to cut back a little was mine, and had nothing to do with player performance.

Winning the flag is nothing to hold your hat on knowles - no different to forcing Ingle Farm to D7 so youi could be a "premiership coach" - you and your club cheated the system and you are going to cash in on the SAAFL kind heart..

Ingle Farm were relegated to D7 after finishing ninth.

Yes no doubt Wayno called all the shots. HE alone kept IF down and the club kept out of it. What bull dust. MP were in a similar situation in 2010. Given a chance to stay up and the President and the committee came to me and said what do you think. I said frankly, we weren't any where near ready at that point and needed to regroup a lot more to ensure our club was strong. It took 2 years and we struck it lucky in 2012. People of quality like Wayno, Q and pardon the self indulgence, me, make educated assessments on the best thing for our clubs. Crops may be a very small part of it but certainly not all.. Communities (volunteers) rally around the club and a sat night in a country town is always busy for club home games - netballers etc too they are really more of a community hub than just a football club - fundraisers raffles etc well run and well supported I think you'd find city clubs with this sort of backing would thrive too.. Then gate takings etc add up too it's a lot of little things certainly not just a farmer or 5 handing over cash - not uncommon for clubs to do 120 meals post game!

Why would any club not want to play as higher division as possible?? As most know, it is pretty hard to make a grand final and go up a division (just ask golden grove), so when it is handed to you on a plate why not take it? Your club may not be in a position to challenge or play finals in the higher division, but still it is worth a shot.

Seems to be the culture of the Ammos, success against weaker clubs is seen as more meritorious than competing against stronger clubs.
