Re: Club Payments Crackdown

Can confirm that one league in a westerly direction from Adelaide, have already met with club presidents. This league have apparently decided to walk away from the SACFL if the rules as they are now written, are implemented. Word is that it could be a snowball effect and others could also go. If one leaves others will also possibly go. That means that all players are 0 points going out and 0 going in. That's a relief that country footy won't be effected.

Re: Club Payments Crackdown

That's absolutely brilliant if the BLG have also joined the other leagues, in not accepting the salary cap. The threat of not being allowed back into a league couldn't be enforceable under law, so that threat would never bother anyone. The other big problem, to the leagues who are throwing these threats out is that, is there are probably as many leagues in numbers, who won't accept the new rules. So again thats not an issue. Unfortunately the threats of not being allowed back into a league is just laughable, when the country clubs, and country leagues like the BLG own the balance of power over the SANFL reserves and the SAAFL.   Comedy gold those threats.

Looks like it will again be open season again on city players, if the big leagues like the BLG refuse to play ball with the Fantasy Footy League. Their clubs out there, have buckets load more money than the city clubs, so it will be 0 points for players going into these leagues. It will be open season on city players, IF that's got any fact to it, about the BLG joining the other leagues in not accepting the salary cap.

I'm glad that many leagues have stuck to their guns and will do what they think is right for their league and not have some very, very average administrators, who have spent 2 years compiling a crap document, with little or no thought about country footy.

Re: Points System Is Crucifying Country Footy

Some great posts and discussion on this thread, I wonder if the 'SACFL' and I use that term loosely have taken the time to read any of this?

It would appear based on the large majority that they should at least seek feedback from clubs, not leagues, as many on here are upset by the representation or lack thereof they are being provided with.

The fact that this is supposed to work in conjunction with the APPS is even more baffling.

If you read the terms and conditions of rules that this group on the Fantasy Football Board, you can see that they are either arrogant or have NFI. Firstly they don't understand these rules will cripple small country clubs who rely on imports to field a side. You don't get players to Murrayville and Peake without spending more than $3,000 a game. Then the rules state that you are guilty until innocent if charged with a breach of the rules. Clubs will have to to prove their innocence, if dobbed in by another club for breaking any laws. That is just comedy gold. These people are writing laws, that are not even permissible under the laws of the land. Guilty until proven innocent. Thankfully 5 leagues have already decided that they will tell them to shove it where the sun doesn't shine. More leagues will then follow the leaders, as their clubs players will get raided for 0 points, by the leagues not joining

Re: Points System Is Crucifying Country Footy

Too many leagues have voted no for this to work and many are sweating off on what happens when these leagues move away from the SACFL. It's all turning into a circus and won't work. No need anyone worrying about it getting off the ground. Won't happen in most leagues and any leagues that adopt it, the savvy country people have already found loop holes.

Re: Yorke Peninsula League

Our league is hopeless! No balls to make decisions but make stupid rules so the same team as years go by rort the system. This same club is loading up again and will be able to fit all these blokes in for $4000 a week. Who is going to police this ?

Not to worry. Half the country clubs I know are just doing as they please and no one gives a toss about the new rules. No one will police the salary cap that's right. Players from our club will just go around to his sponsor who gives him a brown bag. Dead easy. Not many clubs are going to abide by these silly rules. Those who do will only do it for 1 year before they realise the other clubs are doing as they please and winning flags and then they'll do the exactly the same. Propping up a few sh&tty city comps with the Ressies and ammos. Reserves footy is really rank and a group of us went to the city for the top grade ammo grandy this year. That was just snot

Re: Points System Is Crucifying Country Footy

Points can be policed by anyone and infringements can be quickly and easily noted and penalised.

Salary caps are easily circumvented which defeats the purpose (e.g. skimming of gate takings to pay cash in hand, third party payments, raffles being diverted to players without going through the books, keeping two sets of books - one for auditing and the other being the real books, etc.).

I have been in sports admin at a statewide level and know that you cannot catch people unless they are stupid as the above methods are sure fire ways to get away with it ... unless you are the Melbourne Storm LOL

Spot on. Thats exactly why the rule is as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. The very nature of coaches, players, football clubs and supporters is to try and win games of football and premierships. After a year of playing by the rules and seeing the other clubs not playing by the rules and having success, then human nature will kick in and payments will happen via all the methods you just described and then some. Why administrators have to try and justify their position by bringing in rules that will never work always astounds me. Administrators are about as useful as the ashtray on the said motorbike when they try to justify their positions with ridiculous rules. People just trying to look important when they finish playing while some never did which is even more astounding.

Re: Re: Points System Is Crucifying Country Footy

One league in country WA has the points and the player points are printed in brackets beside the player's name in the league's Football Budget. No instances of clubs playing sides over the maximum points. Despite no other leagues using PPS in the region, clubs don't seem to be overspending and the points results in more thoughtful recruiting.

Only a handful of clubs across South Australia would be overspending. The FF League are trying to save leagues/clubs from themselves. The easiest solution would be to get rid of the SANFL reserves. It's now a very, very average competition. That would solve the problems in SA. The SANFL could play the league, U18 and U16's at the one venue, starting early morning and in turn would be saving money on opening two venues. They would also save wages for players on an average reserves competition. The strong country leagues in the state - the Great Southern, Barossa, Hills D1 and the KNT would get many players going there, while the rest of the players would filter through to the SAAFL D1, which has been sharply declining in standard over the last few years, as the top 5 or 6 country leagues have got stronger. Win-Win for everyone. The SANFL clubs which many are claiming poverty, would all be saving huge amount of money each year without the reserves competition. The SANFL clubs could then take from the the 4 top country leagues (Great Southern, Barossa, Hills D1 and KNT) and the SAAFL D1, to top up their league sides. Each SANFL side would have 30 on their list and those not getting a game would be filtered out to the leagues/club that are aligned to them. They would also draw on those leagues/clubs if excessive injuries more than 30. Simple solution and everyone wins

Re: Re: Points System Is Crucifying Country Footy

Instead of finding ways (which is quite easy to do) in beating the salary cap rules. Why didn't the leagues and clubs simply vote NO? That would have been the easiest. Just tell the CFB to stick their rules where the sun doesn't shine and run the competitions as the clubs see fit. Simply doesn't make sense to vote yes and then look for ways to break the rules. Would have been easier to be upfront from the start

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

Good move from Angle Vale to join the Adelaide Plains league.
They are closer to the other clubs around them than in the ammos. The North Eastern League would have been too bigger jump in standard and the Barossa comp would have been way out of their league. Seems a good fit for the club. They might struggle a little early on though as the Adelaide Plains league would still be better than divvy 7 of the ammos

Re: Points System Is Crucifying Country Footy

The name of this thread would be more accurate if it read...... the points system is crucifying clubs that have no idea when it comes to recruiting the right people and/or sustainably managing it's player payment system.

It could also be named. "The points and salary cap system, is currently crucifying country clubs so the SANFL Reserves are propped up and the SAAFL clubs who can't match the country clubs with recruiting, money, administration or volunteers, have devised a system where they think it will be tougher for country clubs to afford and attract city based players away from the city" No point in sugar coating the reasons

Re: Grade Cricket

You have no idea C Horse. Financially sound with money in the bank, consistent small profits and no debt. Facilities are excellent. Football club relationship fine. Henley has always been West Torrens area. The main problem is West Torrens, Woodville and Port don't have any representation on the SACA board!

How will Glenelg and Woodville (or merged WWT cricket if it happens) go when the Glenelg and Eagles SANFL clubs die. Both making massive losses and SANFL is going from bad to worse.

No point taking any notice of C Horse, everything he writes on here is dribble! He has some real issues with West Torrens, reckon he has lost a fair few times to them over the years to be so bitter!!

Aerie summed it up perfectly, Henley Oval one of the better places to play at, and the most important thing, we do the best Afternoon teas in the comp (speak to your Bay players from A Grade when they came - were gob smacked!).

SACA plan on going to 10 teams in couple of years, so other Clubs will be in same boat soon, so don't get too smug. Is no fault of the Club, just being pushed by Bradshaw big time.

I'm glad someone else took C. Horse to task. I can't believe that West Torrens is in the gun. A fantastic cricket club that has been hugely successful over a long period of time, with the best junior set up of any grade club. C. Horse if from Glenelg, shouldn't be so smug as they have been handed everything from the SACA and have been a major failure for a long time. Their record over recent times is poor.

SFL on Channel 44

Was at the Adelaide Oval barracking for the Country side, as they demolished the City team. Was talking to Craig Warman the president down on the bench. He was the team manager of the Country side. Good to see the SFL president as the team manager. Craig said that the SFL have been invited to do a segment on Channel 44 next Wednesday during the Sport Show with Phil Symth. The SFL patron Johnny Hall and Craig himself, will be talking on air. Looking at making it a weekly event he said. Awesome work from Craig to get the SFL more publicity on C44. Well done Country on an amazing win today. Well done to SFL players, Michael Shearer (Flagstaff Hill), Jack Carter (Marion), NIck Mott (Noarlunga) and Will Rivers (Brighton) for making the side.

Re: Grade Cricket

Luckily my pop corn has a long expiry date, believe SACA have made their decision, parliamentary inquiry a waste of time.

Better get a lawyer son, better get a real good one ;)

Hoping your pop corn has an expiry date to 2050 and beyond.
If clowns like you think that either WT or PA won't be playing in the grade cricket competition next year, then you are sadly mistaken.
Come the first game in October, lets see who's right or wrong. You're obviously not as much "in the loop" as you might think.
I've a very, very, strong feeling you'll have a dozen eggs all over your face, and your new nickname will be Bo Bo

Re: Grade Cricket

The Prime Minister is on hand to announce funding for the Mt Barker Sporting Precinct if the Liberals win Government SACA also in attendance......

The Mount Barker Eagles???

There would be more chance of being called the "Mt Barker Adelaide Buffalos"
As each day goes by, there is less chance of the Liberals being elected, so that would be a dampener on the move.
That would leave the new "Mt Barker Adelaide Buffalos" in serious doubt.
I can't imagine the SACA would get any federal government funding, if Labor are elected, if they keep pissing off the state Labor Party.

Re: Grade Cricket

So are WT and Port working towards a merger for the 2017/18 season?

Merger won't happen at all and both sides will be a part of the SACA competition for many years to come. You can bet on it.
More than happy to take anyones bet, if they think either or both clubs, won't be around at the end of 2016/2017
