Re: Ch9 AFL Division 6 - 2015

Hi All, last night I received a phone call from the committee advising me that I am no longer the coach of Brahma Lodge Football Club. Right now I'm quite angry over this and not willing to comment further. I wish all the players the best for the remainder of the season, as I feel that they are the losers out of this, and good luck to the rest of the teams in Div 6. Thanks

Re: AFL investigating new state league championship?

It is so sad that the AFL have such little respect for anything other than their own competition and own interests. How about plowing some genuine dollars into SANFL clubs and assisting them with taking the game to the people? State league clubs coming to MCG so the gravy-trainers can pat themselves on the back and watch from the corporate dining room does nothing for football in this state. Fund a development coach at each of the nine clubs, make underage programmes free at SANFL clubs, subsidise entry at games to spread the word, give grants to clubs to improve training facilities or technology but please don't patronise us by restricting our genuine, worthy competition so we can come and play to amuse you and fill your TV slots in AFL finals time.

Re: ATCA 2014/15.

Had a good coach for quite a few years (Scott Jones) and a guy who organised them off-field (Paul Volkov) but I believe once those guys have moved on it's slowly fallen over

Spent 14 years of my life playing for this club and am devastated by this. Came down to a lot of us older blokes who had done stuff for many years and run the club not being able to any more for various reasons and typical of the younger generation not many people interested enough to continue and run it the way a club should be run. I didn't play there last season but has been a few seasons in the making. Members still need to vote on it at the meeting I believe but cant see it surviving if not enough are willing to put in to run it. Scott Jones and Matthew Loveder have been trying their best to get more involved but just hasn't happened. Too many just want to play for a club and don't want responsibility of running the club they play for. As I said typical of younger generations.

Numerous other things have contributed too with Adelaide High being a cricket school, most of the juniors played for district sides and many after making friends there stayed there so we didn't have new blood coming through. Didn't pay players either (couldn't afford to) and don't know if that helped or hindered, although I am always of the view paying players for amateur cricket is a joke.

Also after the last B grade flag which was a side made of mainly veterans and not much youth, many of these guys retired directly after that flag leaving a large talent gap thus the clubs recent struggles.

Getting sponsors either was not easy, not affiliated with any community really and relied on members such as myself to sponsor to keep the club afloat even if there was little commercial benefit from such things.

All these things add up but again very sad state of affairs losing the club I gave plenty for, emotionally, financially and as a player, treasurer and committee member in the past and am very sad that this is going to occur.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 6 - 2015

I am assuming this ruling for Ingle Farm is related to their official club social media accounts, not private individuals.
Pretty sure it's for anyone involved in the club - for instance if I decided to unload a tirade of abuse towards the SAAFL over this matter on either here or FB, that would most likely come under that umbrella. Ridiculous and if you guys wanted to fight it, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Punishing an employer or club because of an individual's actions when they're not representing that club is hilariously misguided.

Ingle Farm can of course have that policy, and I commend them to enforce it, but the league has no business trying to regulate or control people's private social media accounts, no matter how scurrilous.

Unless of course they encroach into the legal definition of defamation.

For what it's worth though, the club has asked members not to discuss it, and have had admin on top of it making sure any comments etc that are negative or not helpful in anyway are deleted straight away .

IF FB.JPG Yeah understand, and its probably smart from Ingle Farm. As that is the Ingle Farm FB page, it should and absolutely does fall under that umbrella. Comments included.

Doesn't mean we can't criticise that ruling though.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 6 - 2015

Of course, and as I said, I am assuming this ruling for Ingle Farm is related to their official club social media accounts, not private individuals.

Actually, this ruling is for all clubs on any social media platforms, like this one for instance.

Including Mitchell Park 8)

Geddit? ;) Oh for goodness sake. I can't believe this is even an argument or that people are trying to defend it.

The SAAFL cannot punish a club for the content of an individual's social media. It's that simple.

Just like my employer and football club has no responsibility if I get a speeding fine, or punch someone, or break any other number of innumerate policies, rules and laws in my own time - UNLESS I am acting on behalf of my employer or organisation.

Think about it for second - they're effectively saying the Football Club is responsible for their players private lives, at all times, under all circumstances.

What they should have said:

1. Any registered Ingle Farm player which brings the SAAFL into disrepute by posting on Social Media will be deregistered by the Executive Committee at their discretion.

2. Any Social Media content which is administered by the club that brings the SAAFL into disrepute will result in a loss of points for all teams.

Anyway. back to footy. As clearly that's more interesting.

There are a lot of (older) league officials across a number of leagues in SA who have a very negative opinion of this site. I have heard a number openly declare their disgust that their decisions are questioned on the various forums here.

They do not realise the gift they have been given in this era. All the heresay and rumour that used to be discussed and spread at the bar, or workplaces is now communicated here, and often corrected promptly. The officials have a method to monitor what is being said, what is the perception out in the community, and act or respond accordingly.

Instead it (social media) is being viewed as an evil that must be restrained.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 6 - 2015

I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.

What would you all do if I said that you couldn't post anything derogatory about anything and that al posts had to be about butterflies and sunshine?

Hmm? You're doing a great job FC. And that's not a suck up. I've been on internet forums since Adam was a twinkle in his Dad's eye (even moderated a few) there haven't been any better mods. :)

All social media forums need moderation and guidelines to ensure the content adheres to the community standards. But it is up to that community to set those standards, not anyone else.

I would post very differently on my club's official facebook page, than I do on here, I post very differently on 8Chan that I do Reddit etc, based on those communities guidelines.

That's the thing people always miss if they're not actively involved, it's Social , meaning you don't control the content, the hive mind does.

The SAAFL trying to regulate individual social media accounts has resulted in this discussion. Case in point. :D Their attempt to remove or reduce criticism has resulted in more.

Yeah mate, everyone has their own story and the higher you get, the further you can fall.

It was only 2 years ago that I was at a crossroads and felt everything just wasn't worth it and I had no one to turn to, I was fortunate enough to be able to push through it, it took months of staring at a blank ceiling wondering whether I'd made the right decisions or not.

I must say, it does take a fair set to get on such a show and put it all out there.

Big game for Mitchell Park this week. Beat Salisbury West and they remain in contention to play finals.

Biggest game of the year for us so far Q. Finals is way past our thoughts at the minute, we are as the great quote goes 'one game at a time' but if we put our A grade game together for 4 quarters then who knows. The group is still gelling and getting to know what we can do as a team. Rome wasn't built in a day but it did get built. :)

Yep and kicked a couple

Did he have to take a pay cut to play reserves?
What the going rate for reserves now, still $60 a game.
I don't think money would matter in this situation, I think it would be more about the opportunity to play at that level and I spoke with him last night and he said just that, he was grateful to be given the opportunity and absolutely loved it. Named in the best too so obviously made an impression.

I always thought he was capable of playing at a higher level. I would assume he would just need to be a tad fitter (ok a lot fitter) than he would need to be at a div 6 club but having better quality delivery and support around him would help his style and bring him to a better level.

Big loss for BL but if he can back it up and continue to have an impact then he might not make it back into a BL Guernsey this year.

Would like to thank Smithfield for their hospitality on Saturday. Simon and his committee work tirelessly to make sure everything runs smoothly on match day, well done guys.. Also a great gesture from both clubs in both grades to line up and shake hands before the game. And thank you for the carton left in the changerooms for the A grade and the jugs in the club to follow. Overall a great day day out at Smithfield apart from the results.
Maybe people should get out to clubs on match day and see what a great job volunteers do for clubs instead of focusing on certain one off instances by individuals. FWIW, West Croydon are one of the best organised clubs on match day that i have come across and their match day officals are outstanding.
