Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2019

I'm sure Lockley's will be up and about. But the same could be said about quite a few.
Absolutely, certainly looks no easy games, and a very very tough division

Kenilworth - one of the better sides last year when they were on, at times looked the most likely to challenge CBC.
Salisbury - coming down a division after having plenty of competitive games in the higher div and winning a few big games.. great depth through B/C grades.
Eastern Park - seem to be quietly recruiting to replace the talent lost and a tough side at home, they'll be desperate to bounce back.
Smithfield - recruited half of the Northern Suburbs and a lot of guys returning that saw them make 3 consecutive GF's - they know how to get the job done.
Hope Valley - were pretty reasonable last year despite ladder position, and have added top shelf depth to that - in key areas - they'll be tough nut to crack.
Rosewater - back after a one year hiatus, will be super keen to carry on their form from last year and have some real talent in their top group of players.
Trinity OS - always hard to beat, hard to score against and will certainly be doing everything to make sure this isnt a short lived stay back in the div.
Lockleys - three years in a row right in it up to their necks, record numbers on the track already, the window is still open and they're primed ready to win it.
Blackfriars - bit of an unknown, Brincat may be hard to replace but if they can play their best - especially at home - they could easily win more than they lose.

Throw a blanket over the lot, picking a winner from that group right now is next to impossible.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 4 - 2019

Definitely correct, jumped Kilburn in the first and then after half time were all over them. Kilburn did have a couple of big injuries before half time though and ran out of gas. Woody south moved the ball well and have some big guys running around for them.

Well done to Woody Souths.

Some quality ins for Woody Sth as well. Rugari is a good pick up. Played for Seaton Ramblers in round 1. The Chics had a few good players out as well and a couple returning thru the B’s. Early days and it just shows you need to be on your game every week.

Woody South will never get Timmy Sumner back now, got one game suspension in second game for Glenelg to take him to 12 games and banned for life from Amateur League. Great result for the League to never have to put up with his dirty antics again!

Quite frankly, if this doesn't get life the League and Tribunal really need to re-evaluate their penalties.

12 games. If he pisses off for five years and behaves himself the League can consider re-registering him a la Callum Hay.

Punching someone looking the other direction, behind play. What possible basis is there to give someone a second chance in those circumstances?

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 6 - 2019

Gutsy time of year to schedule a night game as well.
It was, but they were blessed with the weather. Big crowd and really good game of footy. Farmers wasting opportunities in the first half, Para Hills 5 goals up in the last before the Farmers came storming home.

With a hell of a lot of help!

Now please don’t get me wrong, Ingle farm deserves to win the game, early on if the goal kicking was even at 60% they would’ve been sitting very pretty. Ingle farms press early was really good and on the flip side Hills pressure on the ball carrier was very good, resulting in a lot of missed shots, under pressure . Hills missed Matty Travis no end, farms made it an in close contested slog, and without Travis that left Power and Hay as lone soldiers and they were never going to hold up alone. Advantage Farmers.

But the performance of the short fat disgrace who obviously never could play the game himself was nothing short of disgraceful, absolute embarrassment to the SAAFL, this was a Friday night clash (very rare) with a huge crowd and for the league to display that Oompa Loompa absolute cheat, as I said it wasn’t bad umpiring, we get that, we hate it but understand it, this guy just blatantly cheated in the last 1/4 in the Ingle Farm forward 50, it was a disgrace, what ever the crowd yelled he payed.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2019

As the 2nd quarter ended, Halftime was taken, and play resumed late in the 3rd, I would have thought play would have started from the centre circle?

If the decision to give Trinity the ball is the right one, then they should have started at their end with the kick. If he missed the goal, then what? Hope Valley full back runs out, plays on and turns around and kicks a goal? Trinity we’re going the other way in that quarter. Was a strange one

If it was even going to remotely make a difference to the outcome, it would probably be important to get it right.

In this case.....

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 7 -2020

Lol find out the facts before you go bagging the lodge.
When the league tell them regardless you'll be in div 7 next year who would want to go up for one year and then have to go backwards?
As a club that's trying to move forward with alot of decent kids and young talent it would be stupid to go up to 6 and fill the numbers for 10 weeks just to return back to 7. What do u think that might do to some of the kids?
Definately not sandbagging and also want to play as high as possible. Have the youth to push up through the divs over the coming years if they all stick together

Youth do not want to play Div 7 and whats to say next year Marion or in that fact another team struggle to get 2 sides together you then play 2021 in div 7 and then you have to try and make a G.F to get promoted and what if only 1 team is promoted that year crazy not to jump at chances cause so many things can change during the year and before the start of the next season

Yep 38-10 was good

We were very poor today
Counts mean nothing. Second to the ball often and a lot of dumb free kicks through poor discipline. Few clips around the ears and dumping after disposal.

Scoreline flatters then Lions - probably should’ve been 100+

Wood was the only real forward, #11 was handy.. but not a lot of winners around the ground.

Really enjoyed the game of the #23 for Kenilworth, he goes well, and JWK is an animal, as is Chesser.

Re: 2021 Adel Footy League - Division 5

Understand that the league has done an awesome job organizing this but Kenilworth v CLG at Hope Valley is a bit odd. Mitcham seems a more logical choice.

Actually closer for SMOSH to go to Hope Valley than to Mitcham.

Handy for volunteers/players involved with Kenilworth to be only 15 minutes away from our A grade.
Hopefully we get out there around qtr time!
You'd think this would be one of the main reasons for the venue selection. Would be harsh with supporters/volunteers having to trek across town in between games, and they've tried to do this across all divs with both games on the Saturday. Thebby/Richmond for Div 1, St Marys/Glenelg for Div 2, Payneham/Campbelltown for Div 3, Salisbury/Elizabeth for Div 6. Good work by the league to make it easier for club people.

Despite the loss, Lockleys saved a bit of money on Saturday I'm hearing. About 25-30 beers worth?

Yeah I thought I was the only one to notice the north socks very strange - pooraka look a quality side to be honest can’t see them losing granny

On paper you’re right, never know on the big day.

Incredibly proud of our club today. At the end of 2016 we were a complete rabble after being relegated from D4 with 1 win. We also would have been relegated from D5 at the end of 2017 if it wasn’t for a Rosewater player head butting a Pooraka opponent in r18 and stripping Rosewater of 6 premiership points. We stayed in D5 and since then we lost an elimination, have been rolled in straight sets after choking in 2019 and then from there losing by a point to a side who I regard as the best I’ve seen play D5. To see our club stick at it and put 3 Senior men’s sides in to GF’s for the first time in our 114 year history this year is remarkable. Love the character of our boys and I’m backing them in next week.

Mate you miss the point.

Cry like babies the game is so far away, and there’s trouble. Then you try and flog it off that “oh well there was trouble anyway” .. “shouldn’t sell booze”.. “should have more security”..

Take some ownership and responsibility - today is why the games are south to try and mitigate the chances of it happening. Move today’s game to Salisbury and it would’ve been x10 worse.

No issues at other GF’s with the same setup.

About time clubs North of the CBD stop acting the victim and smarten up.

Re: 2021 Adel Footy League - Division 5

I guess it comes down to how important you consider the division you play in.

Do all clubs think their exsistence is to strive to be a div 1 club or are some clubs happy being a lower division yo yo club if they snag a few flags along the journey.

The recruit from your nearest rival model has proven for the last twenty years its not a sustainable success model but hey if a fair few players grab that elusive premiership medal than can we really critisise.
That’s the other hard part, are your really good junior products going to hang around if they don’t see you recruiting the best players available.

Who knows the answer

Does the merry go round happen as much with the southern clubs?
Lol for the individual perhaps, but clearly based off the reaction when the AdFL suggested re-jigging Divs it showed it matters to clubs what div they’re in.

Not all clubs strive to be a D1 club either, but of the same accord should never be satisfied “yo-yo-ing” between divisions and picking up the occasional flag. If you have the infrastructure and base to be a D4 club, then you should be looking to play competitive D4 every year, finals the goal and potentially a premiership.

Players will stick around if the culture is good, processes are good, and can see development/competitiveness. Whilst everyone strives for a flag, it’s bloody hard and it’s unrealistic to think you’re going to win a premiership each season, but if you can be competitive and give yourself a chance then you just never know. Players are satisfied being in an environment that yields wins and finals - premierships aren’t the only barometer.

"An Adelaide Footy League club has set itself up for a major turnaround in 2022 as it battles to move back up to division five."

So the club who asked to go down is now faces the "major task of getting the club promoted from division six.".. umm you could've just stayed in D5.

"Preseason has looked positive for the Hawks, and with the season fast-approaching players had bought in on the process of turning the club around."

Div 2 Hills is better than Div 5 AdFL from what I saw last year

And we will never know until they play each other in an equal comp.

To be fair I’ve seen a few Hills Div 2 games and they were Div 6 at best. SFL teams in Towns, Morphy Park are battling away in Div 3/4 and Marion in Div 6 would be a top 3 Hills Div 2 contender. But again it all depends on who has recruited well.

Re: 2022 Adelaide Footy League - Division 5

Eastern park v Trinity apparently called off in last quarter due to fights last night?

Lol there wasn’t any fights

Game called off with 4 minutes to go due to an EP player getting knocked out cold in a marking contest, while we only had 16 players left playing mind you lol we were still keen to play but pointless really

Trinity also has a lad go down 10mins into the last with a suspected broken ankle? Probably their best player to

Bit of heat in the game as they had a bloke running around with a swinging arm, hit 3 different players in a 10 minute period and acted like he didn’t know what he was doing.. then he got one back and it was the end of the world, trinity coach is an absolute wanker I might add also!

All in all, was a good hit out considering EP were missing 11 of their starting 21 due to cricket finals today, but still got up by about 3 goals in the end! Trinity should go well in Div 6

So no fights, just blokes swinging punches at each other?

Re: 2022 Adelaide Footy League - Division 5

Hearing kilburn been struck down with covid? Not good if true. Had them by 14 points.
Kilburn had a lot out.
5-6 out of the A grade plus a few out of there B grade .
Gepps x played well and just had more depth all over the field. Andy going down very early meant Ryan had to ruck all day and late in the game gepps x hit the scoreboard to blow the margin out.
Umpires were inconsistent both ways most off the day. 3-4 times kilburn should have received 25m penalty or gepps yellow card. Headland would mark the ball and get buried into the ground well after the marking contest. Kilburn reacted and turn over so cost Kilburn shots on goal at important stages of the game.
Well played gepps x and hopefully Kilburn get a few important players back next week as I think they will compete well.

In fairness most years clubs have 5-6 out on a week by week basis in their A’s and this year in particular I’d suspect that number is going to get worse.

Re: 2023 Adelaide Footy League - Division 2

Exactly this
Yeah nah

It should NEVER work that way

Why not?

So a player who plays all his junior footy for his school, due to no fault of his own, suddenly works to a different system than the majority of ammo footballers around the state ??

Yeah thats fair.

Well, yeah. It is what it is. Due to no fault of his own? His parents decided to send him to Said school, or the school may be paying a scholarship to have him there.. the family could have said no. Kid could have said no. The Club isn't the one paying the Scholarship. Play the required 25 games for the club in question, and become a zero point player.

If the college school sides wish to run their own junior comp OUTSIDE of the SANFL system, OUTSIDE of the Amateur comp, why should the Amateur club reap the rewards of zero point players? why should they reap the reward of having x player go play SANFL/AFL/ country, then come back to the Amateur club, who had nothing to do with his development, as a zero point player?

he played for the school, not the club.

Lets flip the script then shall we? if you play for a college, and come out of the college system, and go and then play somewhere else before coming back to said college amateur club, without playing the required 25 or so games for the Amateur club in question, then you are a zero point player for all clubs in the Amateur league regardless.

Not at all. and I see you did not even try to debunk one single point I made besides, "oh why won't someone think of the children??"

It's a fairness argument. The age is irrelevant. The school(s) has chosen it's path, and that's having it's own system.

You seem to be advocating, and happy with, a two tiered system whereby some Amateur clubs in the Adelaide Footy league get a free pass on points just because someone went to the school with the same name as an amateur league club, even though they have never actually played for that specific Amateur league club.

I even gave you an out, by suggesting that if they leave their said college , go and play SANFL/AFL/Country, whatever, and want to return to the ADFL, that they can return as a zero point player to ANY club in the ADFL, thereby opening up opportunities for any club to go after them , rather then being zero points for one club, and 3 points for another.

Surely the league will look however at where they play next week and if thats back at SANFL footy then there is obviously an issue.

It's tough, some clubs need to bite the bullet and consider amalgamating, their history never leaves them but then they can survive.
Times will never get any easier, double the volunteers available and move on, embrace the future.

From my knowledge, you'll have half the volunteers. Most will be aligned with one of the clubs and that wont transition over to an amalgamated club.
