Apologies, Winter staying, 12month rookie.

Re: Grade Cricket

Heard rumour Jake Winter knocked back rookie contract with Redbacks. But not to go to Tassie like was mentioned previously.

Going to just play at Glenelg, going back to study at Uni and then get full time job.

Another player SACA have stuffed around, sick of them having their favourites who they give the world too and let all this talent go to waste. Need to play at Woodville with Harry so Daddy will give them a rookie contract, what a joke!!

Find SA cricket hard to understand, looked at their contracts and Kelvin Smith appears nowhere. How does one person have so much power, why do they allow him to control everything with no questions asked, the performance of the State team is currently not remotely competitive. When one of our most talented young players appears nowhere on the contract list surely serious questions need to be asked of the processes being used together with the lack of improvement. The best thing that can happen sadly, is for people like Kelvin Smith to rub their noses in it as it seems like it is a closed shop in this state!!

Re: Grade Cricket

For how long is Grade Cricket going to be the 'fall guy' for the poorer performances of the Redbacks? WA has sixteen teams in Premier cricket but don't see that as a problem. Tasmania, with less than a third of SA's population, has nine teams. The Redbacks problems go a lot deeper than Grade cricket. Besides, the State selectors don't even appear to look at Grade Cricket performances when selecting their teams.
Cheers

Appalling culture, stuck with a boys club in SACA, the stories coming out of the Redbacks detail how bad it has allegedly become. The coach is allegedly blissfully ignorant, would be pleased if the players are put out of their misery and he is moved on before the end of the season so everybody can move forward. His alleged attitude and conversations with his young players indicate absolute indifference to their development. How poor does a situation have to be before action is taken, this is not a pub team, SACA have thousands of members and supporters who would appreciate some action being taken to enable us to restore some pride in our cricket team. The AFL leave this type of sports coaching and administration in their wake, it is difficult for people to continue to put their time into young cricketers when this type of culture and coaching at State level is accepted as the norm.

Re: Grade Cricket

New competition - vote to change the constitution to present the SACA Grade Cricket Redevelopment Model

SACA ensure club redevelopment model targets accreditation standard for change rooms/nets/club rooms to ensure they meet them

SACA present the new Grade Cricket Redevelopment Model to each club with the allocated funding within the presentation which is the same for all clubs

All clubs provided with annual funding as part of the South Australian Grade Cricket Redevelopment Model - Resource Profile targeting
elite accreditation standards for all clubs based on the model including covers at all turf centres

All clubs have annual funding included for a Development Coach /appointed by the club and their role is defined by the club linked to National funding
Funding is clearly linked to accreditation requirements in relation to the club development of feeder clubs and players
Families and Players choose where they play cricket

Call for sponsorship tenders in South Australia for the 8 Grade Clubs
Sponsorship is linked with 4 New Indoor Centres for cricket development in South Australia funded by SACA - Northern/Eastern/Western/Southern
Sponsorship of grade clubs linked to Corporate Rewards connected to the Adelaide Oval
SACA Funding includes Capped funding for coaching
All centre of excellence happens in Brisbane - no junior national programs until Under 15 and then Under 18
High Performance becomes National only - funding reallocated back into player/coach development in South Australia

Grade Cricket consists of Under 15 and Under 17 teams including Senior Cricket is which 1st grade 2nd grade 3rd grade

Re: Grade Cricket

The 2 best sides are through in first grade, however in my view they need to have compulsory declaration in the minor round and a maximum of overs you can bat on in the second day in finals, either 1 more session (or 16 overs as they do in Victoria), as it is if you finish top and prepare a road it is tough to have a contest.

Re: Grade Cricket

Surely you can’t replay the round if all the matches got a start. If they’re going to replay the abandoned games, they should make a time to replay the ND vs WT game as well.

I understand this was presented as an option and west Torrens declined

Wow. Might cost them a finals spot in the end. Bizarre decision.

A bloke at the game on the weekend said that the points for the replayed game would have counted for the one day competition only so that changes things, why would a club reward another team who couldn't be bothered covering the wickets when it was originally programmed when they are going to play in the finals of the one day competition anyway, from a legal viewpoint I don't know where SACA would stand if they were challenged on the decision where the match conditions have been changed at a whim and clubs have been prevented from receiving points for the premiership table on the two day competition.

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2022/2023

Total agreement ..... what a selfish culture they have developed ... and not to be challenged by anyone. How Head as an alleged Australian player is not batting 3 is beyond me ... I will be surprised if we keep our talent .. the contracts that are handed out and not handed out are confusing ... we have some young players including Drew/Kelly/Johnson who are genuine talents and will surprised if these 3 in particular do not end up playing elsewhere .... Head only developed when he became part of the Australian team environment however his days are numbered .. I am amazed he can't workout his responsibility as a leader but more sadly it is the Australian selectors who will be watching this all play out with great curiosity!!

The culture of South Australian cricket .... Wow!

Re: Grade Cricket

Could there be a bigger embarrassment to Cricket in Australia than PLAYHQ

They have gone from a system that worked perfectly fine to a disaster

Cricket Australia is doing a brilliant job of destroying grassroots cricket in this country

Keep feeding the top of the plant and you will have nothing left ...... bunch of well fed fools

Re: Grade Cricket

Big games this weekend .............. high stakes

Adelaide playing East Torrens

Sturt playing Prospect

Woodville playing Southern District

Clubs playing for their future ..... Beginning of BBL means that for some teams players will be missing for a number of games, provides a chance
for a few teams to be more competitive over the coming games

Josh Barrett having a big say and will be a key wicket

Re: BBL 22/23

Is Kelly capable of hitting it off the square ?
Looks like he's become another victim of the poor coaching as his technique is off compared to last year. Damage was done before he went in however being the youngest he's the easy target and will probably get dropped next game as they won't drop the overseas players. I wouldn't be surprised if Tim demands his son gets picked as a specialist batter!

Could write a book about that ...

The issues for Kelly have been screaming, he won't get any help and will ultimately go nowhere

They could do something about it, but the boys club have sorted it by doing nothing, because we don't want to get uncomfortable

1 shield in 40 seasons and counting ..... When they finally get a result it will be 'because of having changed grade cricket' - end of conversation.

Re: Grade Cricket

SA will be happy they can recruit Johnson from interstate next season.

I think he will go to Queensland for three years with a red ball contract, so no they won't be getting him back unless there is a change in thinking from the people at the top.

If that's what people here are happy to support then so be it, my question to the whole organisation is what are your review processes and where is the documentation that shows you are answerable to your stakeholders , how have you responded to each part of the Hussey report?

That's cool, the proof is in outcomes. Live by the sword, die by the sword. If you can get up in the morning and look in the mirror, and say I have done the right thing by my people then we can all live with that.

The problem comes in when your assessments, are the result of outdated and antiquated thinking about young people and their development. When you don't do the work and don't listen to or even know about the research, and therefore there is no improvement in what you are doing.

Poor culture is when you are dishonest with players and their management. When you break trust you will not get it back, people work hard to be the best they can, whether they are from here or other states. Effective communication is everything.

A direct outcome of poor communication is when player management no longer sees SA as a destination because of your coaching and communication/management practices.

I personally would prefer that the head of selection, lives in the state and that every selector attends grade games every Saturday.

SACA have made their bed and are lying in it, after 41 seasons of failing to win a shield the general public are entitled to ask - what is wrong with your culture that this has become an annual event ?

Blaming grade cricket is more of the same, excuses and discounting at every turn. Yes you will get a stronger first grade, no rocket science there.
But how are you at SACA going to improve what you do with the players when you get them?

Re: Grade Cricket

How can Kensington going out of first division be good for cricket in this state?

Surely there has to be finals to qualify for First Division, this makes no sense to me.

West Torrens have 4 players consistently playing first class cricket and then K Smith, B Capel
and H Manenti who are playing second X1, two of those have played first class.

Without getting into the inner workings of each club, I cannot see of what benefit it is
to have 2 clubs who have been arguably the 2 of the strongest clubs in the state over the last
ten years being at risk of playing second division due to there being no qualifying games
to move to first division.

How is this helping improve cricket in South Australia?

Re: BBL 23/24

Apologies but wasn't sure where to put this but fair past 12 and a bit months for Spencer Johnson.
From not even getting a look in with the Redbacks/Strikers to now an instant millionaire after the IPL auction last night.

There are some people at the Redbacks who could possibly feel silly today.

The real story is a victory for optimism when faced with what some would possibly call negative and closed thinking .

Well done to the people at the Heat and his grade club who believed in him and supported him through that period.

Re: BBL 23/24

So happy for Weatherald

Need to keep winning and Stars need to lose That was a great innings, I didn't expect that to happen.
He was the next best thing a few years ago, how does form evade you when it’s obviously there, cricket is all between the ears

Plenty of cricketers have had the talent but lacking between the ears.
You hope for Jake’s sake this can kick start his career again coz he looked finished prior to this innings.

What people in Adelaide are asking is why does this continually appear to happen to young and developing players ?

Successful organisations sort out their stuff.

The way SA appear to do player development , the advice to any young player who wants to play first class over the long term with the current culture, would be possibly get out of SA , to another state.

Until they deal with the apparent issues with culture and practice , we will continue to fail in my view.

Re: Grade Cricket

That article was written in 2016.

Maybe SACA copied the idea

Kelvin Smith 200* today.
Incredible batting. East Torrens struggling to take wickets at the moment

Heard rumour there may have been stuff up by scorers (god knows how) and he is only on 199. Celebrated the double century as was told what was needed off last over. Going to have to waste three overs next week as can’t leave him stranded now surely.

Campbell Thompson not bowling big loss (played vs WI), Luke Robins was going to retire last year as has young child now, Cormack really does not spin the ball much, so not surprising they struggle to take wickets at the moment.

Scoring mistakes happen, these people do this thankless task every week and do a remarkable job. People get sick, they may have to go and do another job as well. On this occasion it had an unfortunate impact, which those scorers would be very uncomfortable about. Given the difficulty all clubs face in getting volunteers who do so much work for nothing we need to be very grateful. Many of them do not take the fees provided by SACA but donate it, into the club's coffers.

Re: Grade Cricket

Buckingham is building a reputation of being a dickhead.

Haven't heard your derogatory comment about Buckingham before, but serious competitors who play on the edge, do challenge the boys club. You could possibly consider accepting you were beaten and get on with it.

When you're doing that have a look at Conway as he apparently struggles to get near a catch and then appears to give the WT batsman a send off when he finally aims one in the right direction . Laughable if it wasn't so sad. Clearly you don't do your homework on people but you are happy to get on here and sledge Buckingham.

Apparently absolutely no idea, some things never change.

The last time I checked Glenelg had won a single 2 day premiership in 50 years, seems a fair bit of pressure coming their way. You have only got just got the Redbacks covered at this point for failure , they have won a single title in over 40 years. But hey keep on sledging, respecting opposition and having a memory are clearly not in your playbook.
