Re: SANFL Junior codes

Was anyone actually there???
1 blue card for Unley spectator before half time.

1 blue card for Plympton coach late in 3rd quarter. Loudly questioning a holding the ball decision, which was not given, no swearing involved, but you simply cannot do it.
1 blue card for Plympton assistant coach (or close by), for audibly questioning first blue card.

Let's not hang people out to dry too quickly.

The bottom line is this: Too many clubs are putting Junior Premierships ahead of developing good juniors, and good people. Some parents are disgraceful, and are destroying it for everyone else.

I am no angel. I am the only person who has ever received a blue card at our club. I audibly yelled out "Thats a sling tackle" in under 10s years ago. I shouldn't have, took my punishment. Side note, it was a sling tackle.

Re: Grade Cricket

Would the % of interstate/overseas players in the competition have increased or decreased over the last 10 or 20 years?

Interesting reading about how the Darwin competition is struggling. Over reliance on imports who disappear prior to finals. Tough for clubs to afford the costs of these players. Not enough juniors coming through.
Probably since the Redbacks have been ordinary over the past couple of years the fringe players from other states probably feel like they'll get a better opportunity here, since there doesn't seem to be a lot of promoting of any young talent from SA (exception of Pope last year)?
Speaking of the Darwin comp, sad to hear that Waratah are likely to fold after this season after 63 years. Shame that this can happen and hopefully a lifeline comes from somewhere.
I see there are a couple of young lads from SA playing up there. Not a bad option instead of going to the UK.

Warratah just not going to field a First Grade team next season. Continuing in all other grades.

Shame though as Gardens Oval is a billiard table during the cricket season.

Re: Australian Domestic Cricket 2019-20

Geez it would be nice to see a young kid pushing up into our batting line up, are there any 19-22 yo's in the Redbacks squad that can push up?

Surely this type of comp is the perfect way to expose them?

Re: Grade Cricket

For how long is Grade Cricket going to be the 'fall guy' for the poorer performances of the Redbacks? WA has sixteen teams in Premier cricket but don't see that as a problem. Tasmania, with less than a third of SA's population, has nine teams. The Redbacks problems go a lot deeper than Grade cricket. Besides, the State selectors don't even appear to look at Grade Cricket performances when selecting their teams.
Cheers

Appalling culture, stuck with a boys club in SACA, the stories coming out of the Redbacks detail how bad it has allegedly become. The coach is allegedly blissfully ignorant, would be pleased if the players are put out of their misery and he is moved on before the end of the season so everybody can move forward. His alleged attitude and conversations with his young players indicate absolute indifference to their development. How poor does a situation have to be before action is taken, this is not a pub team, SACA have thousands of members and supporters who would appreciate some action being taken to enable us to restore some pride in our cricket team. The AFL leave this type of sports coaching and administration in their wake, it is difficult for people to continue to put their time into young cricketers when this type of culture and coaching at State level is accepted as the norm.

Re: Grade Cricket

From an outsider that’s never been through any grade system SACA just appears to be insane. Keep picking the same blokes expecting different results and they pigeon hole players at grade level to the point they don’t accept that players can simply get better.

18/19 season
Winter 1048 @104.80 doesn’t get a look in and only offered a rookie contract from what i heard after being the best bat in Grade cricket all season... why not invest in the lad offer him a full contract and back your development to get him to a level he can perform at the next level. Average of 100 tells me you’re too good for the level he’s playing.

Kelvin Smith 904 @ 129.14 another player who had a sensational year but got offered a token game against the dukes at the end of last shield season then didn’t get offered a contract (could be wrong).

Instead of trying to back these lads in they get a Henry Hunt in from interstate who slots into SA opening the batting and you lose Kelvin to WA and Winter hasn’t played cricket this year!

If i was a kid coming through and seeing Hunt, Bosisto, Scott all coming down to take spots and seeing the history of Grade Cricket performances not getting you a look in at the next level id take the first offer from an interstate club to progress my career as it seems you simply cant do it down here.

Also on a side note if you're coming down to SA on a state contract SACA should be placing you at a district club to try and level out the comp, how Hunt Bos and Scott go to Browns, Uni, Glenelg is beyond me. Put one at Prospect, Northerns and Southerns and the comp would be better for it imo.

Re: Grade Cricket

So on SEEK, Adelaide Uni advertising for a Cricket Director role paying $40-60k per year. What an absolute joke!

You have to wonder what they are paying their coaches and players. Fact they can use University money for this stuff is a disgrace. How they can entice players by paying their HECS debt is crap.

Other clubs are not competing on the same levels. The sooner they kick them out of the comp the better. The fact Tom Plant would have got a $20k bonus if they won the Club Championship last year sums up the money they are paying.

Most Clubs will really feel the affect of SACA funding being halved, while Uni will be laughing all the way to the bank. What a farce!

Re: Grade Cricket

Which clubs would survive/prosper without the SACA funding? Adelaide Uni? Anyone else?
Probably only Adelaide Uni as they are funded by the Uni who in turn are funded by the Government :? :? Only by the university sports association not the university direct.
Apologies for the ignorance but who then funds the sports association? Probably the sports clubs of Adelaide University.....

I don't think Adelaide Uni CC get millions of funding that some perceive they get.

Re: Australian Domestic Cricket 2020-21

I guess we can bang on about who we recruit now. We've been banging on for years about the grade system being a joke and nothing has changed there so we might as well hire mercenaries. Finally!
I’ve been saying this for years.

They have to come from interstate as the structure we have here in SA hasn't worked for way too long..... how many blokes who average 50-60 at grade level have been tried at first-class level and don't make it.
Try capel and I hope he makes it - bringing back Kelvin Smith who in 20 first class matches averages 20 - not worth wasting your time going back to the well on that one.

Let's hope Worden continues to show what he has and then he can have a go in 12-24 months but the grade system is turning out these blokes with high averages only to see that they aren't good enough and in some cases nowhere near good enough for first-class cricket.

Re: Grade Cricket

Buckingham a confirmed signing for the Eags. Coming from grade club Footscray and was part of Victoria's emerging players squad.
Chatting to him, chose WT because of the first-class training facilities and coaching, positive and welcoming club culture and hard-working volunteer officials who went the extra yard to get him. Will also get plenty of bowling with the quick bowling stocks a bit thin at WT with Spencer Johnson the only first grade regular at present.

Buckingham had 11 clubs ring him (not sure which two didn’t  ), with Weaver from TTG and Sturt the keenest, but as Wedgetail mentioned above he chose WT for those reasons.

As for a few tongue in cheek digs calling us Uni etc, should be pointed out we have chased nobody besides Buckingham, the others have all come to us. We have had to say no to three of them as could not fit them in!

McAndrew the main one, he was keen to bat four for whoever he plays for, and although we tried to convince him all our star batters would hardly ever be all available at the same time, he has ended up at Woodville. He will bat four there, and their bowling will be very strong with him, Sayers, Turley and Pinson.
Eags - you guys may have dodged a bullet here with McAndrew. I've heard around the traps the guy is an absolute A grade d...head. Word has it he's been less than impressive in the internal trials as most of his deliveries are in his half of the wicket! I believe NSW were not unhappy in seeing the back of him. Great due diligence by the recruiting staff!!.

Heard similar from our boys, seems like a bit of a knob! The rest of them seem like good blokes though apparently.

20/20 program on My Cricket now. Interesting the six teams with Byes all play each other in the final round, like that idea as the premiership table was always compromised. Pity cant be done for One day comp also

Re: Grade Cricket

Had to stir up a good mate Tommy Harslett. Debuted for Woodville on the weekend to watch West Torrens hit 400. His in for a debut when he goes out to bat on this weekend.

His debut just got a whole lot easier, Strikers playing trial game on Saturday so WT lose Spencer Johnson and Ryan Gibson, now taking Daniel Drew as well to make up the numbers
Does that mean he may have picked up a short term deal - replacement player for someone in the Strikers?

Last year Ryan Gibson got a contract that way to replace Travis Head, so the Strikers could potentially do the same if Carey and Head are both out with Aussie duties. If he goes alright the next two days in the trials he would have to be a good chance. He is way too good with the white ball to not have a BBL contract or be playing one day matches for Redbacks.

Re: BBL 21/22

Harry would not get a game without his dad.

His Dad signed him to three year deal too, would imagine he will be on the list next season and not playing a game. If he doesn’t try and sign De Kock or another decent keeper/batsmen with Carey unavailable it is a deadset joke, almost criminal. How SACA let him have so much power when his son is involved is ridiculous
Unfortunately Eags as we all know the whole place is rotten. When you have a SACA president and board only worried about how deep they can get their snouts in the trough and not do anything to make meaningful changes to the whole set up we'll keep discussing the same things over and over. Absolute joke of an organisation which basically needs a complete clean out from top to bottom and in between, not just the Strikers.

I'm not sure what you mean here, our ODD and shield teams are doing well, both sitting 5th. (two more games played than the bottom side though).

Re: Grade Cricket

Bays didn't have Liam Scott or Alex Carey today. I wonder if they'll be available for the final? Eagles missing Gibson. Is he still injured? Strong teams. Hopefully everyone full strength
TC - I heard Scott didn't want to play this weekend due to "bubble fatigue". Not sure about Carey. I also heard (unconfirmed) that SACA wouldn't allow Gibson and Corey Kelly to play this weekend as they "might get injured"??? If that's the case and both players put their hand up wanting to play then that's a joke.
I believe the next shield fixtures may be on the weekend the GF is though?

Liam Scott has a finger injury that's why he didnt play

The Phantom Bradman Medal count has been completed and after predicting the past five winners the results for tomorrow night are in :D

Winner is Will Bosisto (Adelaide Uni) with 31 votes.

Second is Thomas Kelly (Sturt) with 27 votes and Third is Josh Doyle (Kensington) with 23 votes.

Normally a close count but predicting a pretty easy win this year, the umps love the all rounders.

Re: BBL 22/23

Is Kelly capable of hitting it off the square ?
Looks like he's become another victim of the poor coaching as his technique is off compared to last year. Damage was done before he went in however being the youngest he's the easy target and will probably get dropped next game as they won't drop the overseas players. I wouldn't be surprised if Tim demands his son gets picked as a specialist batter!

Could write a book about that ...

The issues for Kelly have been screaming, he won't get any help and will ultimately go nowhere

They could do something about it, but the boys club have sorted it by doing nothing, because we don't want to get uncomfortable

1 shield in 40 seasons and counting ..... When they finally get a result it will be 'because of having changed grade cricket' - end of conversation.

Has been pointed out to me that Nairne may well have contravened the by laws by playing Kelly and the Association has been queried about it.
Be interesting to see what the outcome is
From what i've heard it's a pretty clear cut breach
Could they have played him to qualify for some other comp? Hasn't he (along with quite a few other Premier Cricket players) been playing in the T20 comp?

Dont think that was the intention because he was named for Burra right up until they were forfeited against.

Dizzy can **** off

The Messiah he’s not!
SACA (and Dizzy somewhat) get what they deserve. Whilst Nielsen remains in charge and calling all the shots and continually overseeing an organisation rife with bullying with no one having the guts to stand up to him, this will be another failed season. Also, interesting that Dizzy had his contract extended on the quiet before the beginning of last season without the knowledge of at least several board members.

Whilst we joke about sacking Dizzy, no one person can turn this around overnight given it’s a systemic issue as you’ve pointed out.
Given they did an external review and apparently chose to ignore the findings, I’m not sure what hope there is going forward.
