Re: 2020 Player movement

Did the Eagles listen to their fans on this one
Liam Buxton

Liam played 15 games for the Casey Demons in the VFL in 2019 after being recruited from Vermont in the Eastern Football League where he won a Premiership alongside ex Eagle Andrew Ainger in 2018. The 199cm Ruck/Key Forward will look to work in tandem with Jarrad Redden in the ruck whilst also providing another great marking option up forward alongside the Hayes brothers.

On Liam's signing CEO Luke Powell said, “Liam is a fierce competitor and very strong in the air. We feel that Liam can play a big role in seeing us bounce back quickly to finals football in 2020. His ability to play both in the ruck and up forward will give the team greater flexibility next year.”

On his signing Liam said “I am really looking forward to joining the Eagles in 2020 and testing myself in the SANFL competition. After coming across to Adelaide a few weeks ago and speaking to Jade, Luke and a few of the players, I got to experience the professionalism of the Club and felt the Eagles were the best fit for me. I can’t wait to get started.”

Liam will be over for a couple of weeks of the Pre-Season prior to Christmas before fully relocating in the new year.

Please join us in welcoming Liam to the Club

Re: Pre-sale Grand Final ticket problems.

Anyone else experiencing problems with buying pre-sale grand final tickets from Ticketek? So far, it won't let you but them, and it says the barcode password emailed to me by my club is not valid.

My youngest did it for me she had issues but we got our three tickets
Lucky you - I'm still frozen out, as is a mate of mine.

What issues did you have at your end,MJP?

Magellan my daughter brought it up on the app she was locked out .
Went on her laptop and booked them . Took about 2 minutes on the laptop

Re: SANFL 2021 SEASON

I have to say the DP does have some issues .
1 the night game at Norwood oval it got stuck on showing us the women’s ring or medal for the GF
2 some of the commentary is like hearing footy on the radio in the 80s

But you get what the SANFL pays for .
One biggest issue hearing over and over in games with north playing how many medals one player won in the ammos . And then the commentator couldn’t tell the difference between North’s scoring and what was actually scored by the Eagles

But as I said you get what the sanfl pays for

Re: 2021 Player movements

New eagles recruit

Young Garawa man, Mishai Wollogorang is heading to Oval Avenue
Mishai is a proud young Garawa man from Robinson River, NT, a remote Indigenous community consisting of 285 residents and a working cattle station.

Mishai was identified during the recent WWTFC Community visit to Yirara College in Alice Springs where he had recently been boarding at the college and undertaking year thirteen and a carpentry traineeship.

David Couzner, WWTFC Football Director said “After meeting with Mishai and his senior house parent at Yirra College, Jed De Laine, it was evident to Luke & Jade that Mishai was extremely committed to playing football at the highest standard, but more importantly, he is committed to gaining an apprenticeship and becoming a positive role model for the youth within Robinson River. As a community club, we are in a great position to be able to facilitate the relocation to Adelaide and the employment opportunity for Mishai, to assist him in achieving his goals. He has a hard journey ahead of him; however, he has a strong WWTFC support base structure around him, that will assist with the transition”.

After completing a week of work experience with WWTFC club major sponsor Maughan Thiem, the Club is extremely pleased to advise, Mishai will commence an automotive apprenticeship with Maughan Thiem next week. Maughan Thiem CEO, Daniel Thomas said, “The Maughan Thiem Group has always enjoyed a close partnership and relationship with the WWTFC. When presented with Mishai and the opportunity to provide a week’s work experience we jumped at the opportunity. Mishai is a fantastic young man who is driven to learn and succeed. We are looking forward to assisting Mishai with his employment journey and welcoming him into the Maughan Thiem family”.

Re: The death of the Port Adelaide Magpies

The other week I got in trouble on Facebook (nothing new) for saying Port don’t have the magpie on their jumper .
The persons page I wrote that on is a great guy . But one of his buddies got upset . Went off they are still the magpies media calls them magpies . So to him they are the magpies , mind you half or more of their fans wear power gear .
Anyway this guys picture had him in the prison bars I pointed out it didn’t have the magpie logo on the jumper . He wanted his mate to block me .
I know it’s port Adelaide but I guess the wharfies can’t see the logo is gone .
Those that know me know I used to be married into a port family lived in the port heartland.
My kids followed me thankfully not port fans that’s surprised their cousins lol .
Anyway those that know me know my surname and with that surname not being a port fan gets me really strange looks from port people .
I won’t say my surname but I’d love some royalties from Port lol
Ah, the mainstream media says it, so it must be so - nothing, of course, to do with commercial aesthetics and marketability. :D

A truly ground breaking concept for that platform I realise, but the Farcebook "buddy" needs to improve both his standards for information acceptance and his critical thinking skills.
He’s not my Facebook buddy haven’t seen anything by him since
Yes, Micky.

That's why I said "the" , in the context of the only "buddy" mentioned in your post, not "your" .

Play on.

My mistake lol

Re: R3 Eagles v Adelaide Saturday 2.10PM

The exact opposite is what I’m saying, champ, post away, but don’t go missing when you lose!
Instead of being a loud mouth wanker like you are why don’t you ask me in private why I didn’t post after the eagles shit match last week and I would’ve told you I was in ******* pain with my ******* cyst for a week
The reason I didn’t go last week my family didn’t think I could walk the distance to get to Glenelg oval
Some days I spit the dummy
But this year I’m in pain on pain killers on a three year waiting list to go onto a list to see a specialist
If you saw me at Woodville oval today carrying my chair and using my walking stick at least I didn’t fall down the steps under the scoreboard this week

Rather than be a loud mouth idiot send me a PM this year I’m there when I can survive the pain

Re: R4 Centrals v Adelaide 2.10Pm Saturday

whufc if your Dogs can’t beat Adelaide I’d be shocked .
What I saw of Adelaide last week most seconds teams could beat them .

I would agree with that. Amateur league standard.........which isn't surprising since that is what many of those players are
So most seconds teams would beat us then after todays loss.
In fairness, the side these blokes saw might not have had a two metre, 90 kilo, freshly dropped fringe AFL ruck-forward, trying to impress for senior regularity with his new AFL club, putting in a best on ground performance for their Reserves with 12 marks (nine contested) in 19 touches for seven goals.

Just a guess.

I’ll put my hand up no Frampton last week . However our biggest tallest ruckman played seconds footy . Somehow the smaller ruck was able to be like an extra midfielder. Or the Eagles got the ball out of centre easy . But no Frampton he used to destroy the eagles when he played for port .

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

A Port reflection.

My father, who grew up a good (Bob Shearman comes to mind) drop kick from Thebarton oval, occasionally joked (we think) that his life would have been happier if he had grown up as a Port supporter.

When I, as a Woodville boy, read the sometime heated contributions in this stub, I reflect on the history and psychology of the PAFC. Port's stance of 'us v the world' served them well in the SANFL as it galvanised their players and supporters, yet in reality, Port sides were also well-coached and they had the players who knew what was necessary to win the big games, especially in the finals.

In the current world of AFL, this disposition ('the world is against us') seems to have morphed into delusion (the Port Bs are the 'Magpies'), infantilism (the fetish of the prison bars) and despotism (attacking, at whim, imagined enemies, including, treacherously, the SANFL and its clubs).

As someone who, when very young, had a reasonable amount of direct contact with the Williams, McLeans, Motleys, Boyds and Gallifords (the last one is for the old cockledivers), this new attitude is foreign to the Port I knew. It seems to me that the new Port (or is it the current egotistical leadership) has a new shade which could see it evolving into yet another clever corporation which is attempting to dazzle its shareholders by fabricating new foes while living on the fumes of the past.

As a west Torrens boy who grew up in the 1970s I learned early from Port fans how feral they were .
Marrying into a port family wasn’t easy out of us three guys who married the three daughters in this family ones father was a head trainer at port . One was a sturt and hawthorn fan and me being a Torrens fan . The family tried to convert me to follow port nope and my kids cousins couldn’t understand how they didn’t and don’t follow port seeing we lived in the port heartland. Believe me not everyone that lives there were port fans more weren’t .
Now reading your post I’ve met both Geoff Motley and his son Peter Motley before his accident great people .

But the way Port bosses carry on like they’ve been kicked in the balls because they don’t get everything their own way must be embarrassing especially when one threatened to sack the coach on national tv then changed his mind
For myself Port are a tiny fish in the big AFL pond trying to live on their glory days in the SANFL

Re: Sturt v Port

Good win to Sturt but that must have been the weakest team on paper PA have put out there this year.

Easily. Probably had 10 SANFL standard players out there.

Interesting post Booney it is Ports seconds team . So you should expect to play guys around and some below SANFL standard
I thought it was strange Hartlet got taken into the AFL side after his performance last week against the Eagles .
Well done to Sturt you can only beat the team on the park against you .

Re: SANFL 2021 SEASON

I attended the EG V GL game last week
Once again I found the umpires green tops and the Eagles tops too similar and hard to pick up at times
I think its time for the umps to go back to all white during eagles games

Actually I won’t argue with you Mal my eldest who is over 30 and colour blind has issues telling them apart from eagles players
Perhaps it’s time the SANFL followed the AFL umpires in wearing different colours to the clubs ( I think I’ve seen this ).

Re: R18 Sturt v Eagles Saturday 1410

Ok I’ve been quiet on this game . Watched it on the pass less said about the pass the better but it’s better than nothing .
My take according to the internet Sturt ( excluding Glenelg as they are the form side ) was the form side of the league until yesterday’s game !
Eagles won to me it wasn’t pretty but the Eagles won after let’s say the bye . Eagles are known to drop a game after a bye .
Eagles do need to improve for the finals .
But the Eagles younger players stepped up and helped the team win !
And yesterday’s game was bigger for Sturt than the Eagles however the Eagles cemented second spot .

Re: 2021 finals series

Must be going well if they can give free tickets away.

It’s to do with being a paid up member if you’ve attended all games or you have the home match ticket and attended all home games .
It’s also called rewarding fans who go every week :) I’m guessing the AFL seconds teams don’t do this seeing you follow one you’d know .
No offence

Jade Sheedy signs on !!

The Woodville West Torrens Football Club is delighted to announce that Jade Sheedy has agreed to a three-year contract extension.
Sheedy who joined the Club at the end of the 2019 season, still has a year to run on his existing contract, with this extension tying him to the Club until at least the end of the 2025 season.
On his decision to extend his contract Sheedy said, “I would like to thank the WWTFC in trusting me to guide the Club over the next 4 seasons. In the past 2 years, the playing group have built strong foundations, and we will all strive to continue to build upon these. I am very grateful for the support of all Coach’s & backroom staff that all make this Club great.”
CEO Luke Powell said the Club was thrilled to extend Jade’s contract and set the long-term direction of the football program.
“Jade has come in and had an instant impact at the Club in his first two seasons, and we couldn’t be happier to have Jade oversee our football program for the next four seasons. Not only has Jade produced great results on field but he has also shown the wonderful ability to develop and grow our younger players, as was reflected in losing four mature age players to the AFL at the end of the 2020 season. To have the services of a strong leader such as Jade for the next four seasons gives our football program great stability for the future and a chance for it to grow into something really special.”

Re: Season 2022 Player Movements

Constantly mentioned on here that players dont wont to come to Elizabeth because its to far to go .That is just a COP OUT if they really wanted to play for us they would .James Boyd when he played for us would commute from Woodcroft at least a 3 hr round trip so it can be done.

Look I’m an Eagles fan was Torrens before that . I’ve seen the highs and lows in being a footy fan . What your saying yes in the years Centrals were winning flags constantly. That would draw players in from all over . But the lows of not winning enough games keeps players away . Before you cry me down I saw it in the years I followed Torrens . Sometimes you just need the right people in charge and the right person coaching the main side . When this happens you get a team players want to play for . Hopefully that makes sense as I’ve said I’ve seen my Torrens win one game a year kick one goal a game . To the Eagles finish top lose the flag to winning flags !

Re: Season 2022 Player Movements

Just in

The Woodville West Torrens Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of hard running midfielder Dylan Clarke.
After being delisted at the end of the 2021 season by Essendon, Clarke continued to train with the club up until recently with the hope of being resigning through the Pre-Season Supplementary Selection period. The 23-year-old has spent the previous five seasons at Essendon, playing 24 AFL matches after being drafted from the Eastern Ranges.
CEO Luke Powell said on Clarke’s signing, “We are delighted to have Dylan commit to the Club. To be able to attract a player of Dylan’s calibre so close to the season is a great result for all parties. Dylan is a person of tremendous character who will fit in to our culture really well and I know he is looking forward to having a great season.”
On joining the Club Clarke said, “I’m really excited to be joining such a great Club in the Eagles. The playing group have been fantastic in welcoming me in to the Club. I was attracted by the prospect of being coached by Sheeds and I’m really looking forward to help the Club succeed.”
Please join us in welcoming Dylan to the Woodville West Torrens Football Club.

You hear me Goddy

Re: R 13 Eagles v Port

Conner McLeod playing style just like his old man. He has the same running and kicking style. Great debut.

Surprised its taken so long, had some decent stats last year.

With some luck he’ll hopefully follow in Joe Sinor’s footsteps, who took a few years to make the grade. McLeod looked comfortable out there and played well. He certainly has some class and looks fit and confident.

I thought Goldsworthy and Hardie were important when the Eagles needed to get going in that 2nd quarter. Dan Menzel, with 6, again a star performance. Knight, Clarke etc worked hard through the midfield. Beecken getting back to his best form. Litster, Duval and Lehmann had much better games in the back line this week. Ellis-Yolmen will be very handy. Much better structured with another tall to help Redden. Fingers crossed Troy Menzel is ok, but his knee didn’t look good.

Good win by the Eagles. It’s a funny season - after some upsets in other games today, we get a chance to keep in touch with the top 3 if we can beat Glenelg next week, even if we find ourselves outside the 5 after tomorrow’s game.

Don’t wish to correct you Aerie but Dan Menzel kicked 7 goals
Connor showed he can play league
After the first quarter Eagles all over Port
Reddens ruck work over Ports AFL Ruck was outstanding even Seb did well
It is a pity so many Ex Eagles playing in Ports sanfl side some drafted some just top up players

Re: Round 19 in an 18 game Season South v Eagles

I think there is every chance he will just walk off.

Played 12 seasons at the Eagles plus 4 years in the AFL where he mostly played in the SANFL. Only got to 145 games. That is a lot of games missed.

A very affable man whose company I have enjoyed on several occasions.

As a long time Eagles fan I will miss big red . Been a great servant for the eagles . I remember him going to port in the AFL . Back when they came back to SANFL sides . Whoever was port coach back then I heard players saying they were not permitted to have good kicking practice might have been primus.
Anyway in those days I went to eagles training and Redden and another player at port would be having goal kicking practice before training started .
I will miss todays game thanks cancer but I’ll watch on the TV . You will be missed big red .

Mitch Duval leaving the Eagles and going to Unley Jets

Lasted one year.

Eagles have lost Duval. Mutch, Clarke, Allmond and Lonergan in the last month. Savage.
Lonergan? Where's that come from? Or do you mean Redden?

No I meant Lonergan. Not correct?

Was that a yes, he is leaving or a no I don't know?

19 year old Barkla was a member of our 2021 U18s Premiership team, and through Port Adelaide's Next Generation Academy was selected as a Category B rookie at the 2022 Rookie Draft - going on to play 18 League SANFL games for Port.

We look forward to the midfielder/defender having a big impact for the Eagles in 2024.

Could’ve been worse Port could’ve been involved lol there was talk by a eagles fan who supported port in the afl that Port wanted the eagles as their SANFL side thankfully never happened eagles would’ve lost everyone or almost everyone
