Re: 2024 AFL Silly Season

Daniel Rioli asked to be traded to the Suns.

They’ll need to offload plenty to fit under their salary cap

Is he the answer to their problems, or is it just a job for a mate?

Re: 2024 AFL Silly Season

He'd readily replace Murphy, and an aging Howe across half back.

I'm not sure he'd play forward when checkers and mcstay are fit.

Howe yes, not Murphy. Lukosius may be tall, but he's not a KPP, that's why he can't nail down a position.
He's always been the gold coast where ever we need him player.
Centre half back for us would suit him to a t.

Probably why they are still finals virgins.

He is not a key position player.

Re: SANFL Junior codes

How do they have 7 permit players? What is a permit issued for?

I used to laugh umpiring junior finals, it's when nan and pop would get the Kingswood out and go watch little Johnny for the first time for the season, no shit, the older folk actually think that yelling abuse out to the umpire is a part of spectating. I have a permanent smile on my face and I never get irate so it made it even nicer when I paid a free kick against their team near them and gave a little indication that the free kick was especially for them.
Special permit would be due to a dual registration with their League club. But I think you'll find DTH was talking about the game prior?

Yeah, if you're in a development squad, you register with your SANFL club for the season, but can play on permit for your local club

Thank you.

Re: Southern Football League

Flaggies been taking the piss all year, flies no chance

Happy valley might be more of a chance, knocked off Flagstaff on their home deck.

Mostly a joke but would be good to see some change in the GF teams.

Valleys have to get past Porties first, they've won comfortably both times this year. Kirk out for that Valleys game was a huge hole, he gives their back half so much structure, same with Shearer & M. Johnson on ball. Sproule ended up chasing kicks on the wing and down back last week as a result of lining up against Kirk.

Can any Porties supporters tell me why Jarman played Steele in the back pocket? The guy is brilliant on the ball and going forward, why on earth would you throw him down back?

No porties supporter by any means but I was sitting close to the interchange bench and the profanities coming from Jarman regarding Steele not getting much of the ball in the first half would be a good indication on why he was chucked down back so early to try and get a touch of the football

Re: AFL Round 24

Take Horne-Francis out of the team and Port would be down a few rungs
I've been amazed at his game this year - should poll well in the Brownlow
Add in Rozee and Butters and their games - 2 other exceptional players

That midfield is currently being led by Wines and while Butters, JHF, Drew and Rozee ( in that order of impact at the moment IMO ) are all very good players the inside is being held together by Wines. I think our midfield has one of, if not, the best balance.

Didn't you call "season over" five weeks ago???

Credit given when credits due. Morphett vale played out of their skins and used their ground to their advantage well on the weekend. But what could be a blessing in disguise coming up to finals, the young lads know that all 21 need to play at 100% to get the job done as any team can win on the day. Its set to be a cracking match vs valley

Re: SANFL Junior codes

Super proud of this team! Coached half the kids for last two years, watched them since U6’s when my daughters started.. had difficulties last two seasons, following a tough U12 season lost half the side (the “good” kids) to other clubs looked like not fielding an U13’s last year but soldiered on - despite the negativity from some parents.

This year again doubts around fielding a side, made the call to merge the 13’s and 14’s - again to the disgruntlement of a few - but I was confident the 13’s kids I’d coached would be more than capable of stepping up.

Handed the reigns to a young A grade premiership player Cody, and he was helped by our B grade captain Jordan. Was a great moment for their family with his young brother playing and mum team manager.

It’s been a journey for them, I’m glad to see them get the rewards they deserved yesterday, and for coming through some difficult times over recent years.

Was a good day of footy but I just think Kenilworth was a bit too big of a oval for the ladies.

Rain didnt help as well.

That's exactly why you want the women to play on the bigger ovals, I'v umpired well over 100 womens games and have learnt to appreciate the bigger ovals where there is less congestion.

Re: INS and OUTS 2025

Bit sad that a SANFL Magary Medalist cant' get a game in an AFL side

Really? Makes sense in my book. All the talented 18 year old kids get picked up, and the second tier players develop over a number of years.

Great state league player does not equal AFL player, especially not in this case. What is his X factor, what sets him apart? '

This not super quick, not super big, good skills not great ones, as benchwarmer says good State league player.

Got a couple of games at the elite level, so good on him.

Re: retirements and upcoming signings

Munn's talent/ability has never been questioned. If centrals can get him motivated/fit he will be more than handy at this level.

Never been questioned?

In his last stint at League level, over 8 games he averaged 0.3 goals, 6.1 touches and 2.9 hit outs as a key forward.

Massively over hyped IMO.

Good luck with that!

He was named in Sturt's best players 6 times in his final season, 2019.
He also scored 9 goals in the National Under 18s Championship.

Never before have I seen such an attack on a new young recruit from supporters of his old club.
There sure seems to be quite a lot of upset that he left his old club.
Hasn't got anything to do with him leaving Sturt 3 years ago

Just ask the Unley Jets and Old Ignatians what they think of his attitude and application. Big money and zero effort

Who's buying a pickets at Alberton?

Will probably get my Mum and Step Dad one. They did have a paver in front of the Allan Scott HQ but they were lost in the recent redevelopment.

They don't offer you compensation or a transfer of the paver that had been purchased? Bit rough considering they happily took the money in the first place.

It was an oversight when they redeveloped, spoke to Richo who said they'd be replacing them when the bowling club side gets redeveloped and will ask people who had lost theirs to contact the club to have new ones installed at no charge.

Re: SANFL Junior codes

Get Blackwood out of SANFL Juniors. 9 Permit players for a GF :YMSICK:

You do realise they all play underage for Blackwood in the Hills league, don't you? Can't be registered in two leagues at once, hence the permit.

Spot on, Im not sure what else the permits would be for, unless he is implying that 9 were over age permits, I can guarantee none were if you are referring to the U17.5's. None of them are on SANFL lists either.

Re: SANFL 2023 season

Considering the WAFL named a 34-man squad prior to ANZAC Day, and we've only named a squad 11 days out, it's fair to say the WAFL are taking this more seriously at the moment.

How many training sessions are the SA team going to be having together? 3? 4?

Will have the same trainings they always have, and always get the win.

Said this couple of months ago, but what a ridiculous time to play the game, around 3pm on a Friday at Adelaide Oval with nobody watching. Will really inspire the players, what a disgrace!
^ this. The game has been made inaccessible to those who might care, in order to expose the game to an audience which does not give a stuff. I note the further irony in having part-time players suit up during business hours while the full time professionals play later.

Re: Adelaide

Not sure the Kean walk out is just a rumour.

Sadly for my personal interests i believe it is true and St Kilda are the front runners, a trade which includes Jack Hayes is extremely likely which is why he has been given a game this week by the saints to showcase his fitness to the Crows.
I'd do that trade

Crows would want a fair bit more than Hayes in that trade

Thats why i said 'which includes'.

No doubt there would be some draft picks going the Crows way.

Jack would be a strategically trade with a major asset being what he brings to the youth in the SANFL side as I'm sure we would all agree he wouldn't make their fully fit starting side.
