Re: HFL Division 2 (Country)

It’s bloody hard to comprehend to be completely honest. Very disappointed with The Advertisers updated reporting of the scenario. Can understand family members being distressed however to quote them so close to the event and then put clubs like Waikerie and Birdwood on the spot about their knowledge of concussions is absolute terrible journalism. I can completely understand professional AFL clubs being put in to the spotlight because of their intimate knowledge of medical health records, however grassroots volunteers are a completely different story. Feel for the footy clubs involved in this scenario as there will be a fair bit of trauma to deal with….

Easy to say though. Sitting in the sheds for 10 hours with some sort of batting responsibility. Need to go on and score 500 here and send them in before dinner. This pitch is a beauty.

Re: 2023 ICC World Test Championship Final

Some of the posts and replies by Indians in particular on those pages are a disgrace. ESPN Cricket Info has to tighten up online security because of some of the threats and horrendous comments. On a lighter note I did laugh at one that claimed Steve Waughs captains knock in the 99 WC quarter final was the second greatest knock under pressure by a countries captain in an ODI. The best was by Kapil Dev who guided India to victory vs Zimbabwe in the early 90’s after India were 8/149 chasing over 200 in some Mickey Mouse game. It wouldn’t have been funny if he was intentionally trolling…

Re: Ashes 2023

We’ve been spooked

Bowled crap initially which then panicked Cummings into defensive fields….now England taken the piss on a wicket doing stuff all.

Rubbish. There are stuff all deliveries beating the edge and batsmen are walking up and down the pitch carelessly like a pissed tourist in Bali. There are no signs that if we even pitched it up we’d be better off. They are limiting the damage in the hope of the softer ball making it harder to score and also hopeful of it reversing. Time will tell if that’s the right move. This pitch is a dog.

Correct, normally you see players converse and discuss if it’s out. The Australians just stood there and Cummins just walked up to him (probably asking him if he’s still awake) and just signalled. Commentators also were speechless!

Dead set if TDK is getting death threats to his family and promises of a holy war to Christians in Australia from Indians over a celebratory FB post I’d hate to see what Marias would be copping if this was England v India….

Re: Ashes 2023

In all seriousness if you win a toss on a pitch that isn’t doing much and put 380 on the board then it’s about a par score. We just need to dig in here and put 500+ on the board. I’d take where we are at the moment however the jobs over to our batsmen. Hazlewood said it well imo - Don’t care if you score 380 in a day or in 2, it’s the same score….

Re: 2023 Adelaide Footy League - Division 4

Very Hostile environment out at Lockleys on Saturday. Fantastic rivalry building between Kenilworth and Lockleys. The Balcony was well and truly up and about. Tough Wet, Windy conditions but all that considered was fantastic to watch, both teams wanted that W badly

The rivalry since 2020 in particular has been outstanding. Whilst Lockleys have numerous premierships across the grades (just one would be nice :) ) it has been a very tough slog in most of those games - In particular the A’s. Can’t fault the effort and output of our boys each week in most of our games this year and they absolutely leave everything out on the ground. Personally think the coaching crew are doing an outstanding job thus far.

I don't really know how to summarise this article by Ollie Robinson except that I thought it was satire at first.

Apparently he reckons Australia need to change their approach lol.

 “If it wasn’t for us, the Australians wouldn’t have even had a chance”

“It feels we’ve won, lads”

“We’ve entertained the world & put the Aussies on the back foot”

What a bunch of clueless naval gazers.

In fairness Brendan McCullum is only reiterating the same words that would have been said to every Test cricketer from NZ since 1993 in all bar one Test.

Nope, however it’s something that seriously happens at every level every week. It’s lazy Cricket at Test level and out every day of the week. To play the spirit of the game card is seriously laughable!

It’s a nice change however for once it’s not Australia that’s been gobbing off all series. England have fired off shots before and throughout the entire series through on field chatter and passively through the media and in newspaper articles. Australia have been focused for the greater periods and it’s paying off. Keep the focus because England are showing they have the attention span of my 2 year old daughter and it’s cost them 2 Tests…

Wowee the UK papers really have some serious sand in the vaginas this morning!

About the only English people in the Australian corner are former captains!

Let them go and drink their own bath water, this is the reason why they are 2-0 down after winning 2 tosses at home. Their lack of focus, maturity and composure is laughable and the Australian camp knows it. They are doing their own heads in…

Re: Ashes 2023

English reporter: "Is there such a thing, or do you believe in such a thing as the 'Spirit of Cricket'?"
Pat Cummins: "Yep."
English reporter: "Do you think after Bairstow's dismissal, which was within the letter of the law - no disputing that, but are we in danger of seeing 'mankads' or underarm bowling later on in this series?"
Pat Cummins: "It depends on how flat the wickets get, it might be an option to turn to."

Thats the thing.....there is no spirit of cricket anymore and to be honest nearly all professional sports have lost their 'spirit' or intention.

No team is better than the other, look at how the aussies carried on with the Starc catch despite the rule being clear that it wasnt a catch. You can bet your bottom $$$ if we had lost that test it would be our cricketers whinging about the Starc decision and the 'spirit of the game'

BTW i do believe there is a place for the spirit of cricket......imo some of the rules just need a little retweak to be worded more appropriately to the intention of the rules given the $$$$$ in cricket now and the cutthroat nature of the sport.

In Bairstows case he clearly walked out his crease, we can debate the why he did that all day long but he clearly walked out the crease. What we dont want is keepers trying for them stumpings and blokes looking for mankads that are mm's in it. Last thing we want to watch is reviews where the third umpire is deciphering between mili seconds of an umpire saying 'over' and where the batsmen back heel is located at that point.

What over will it be when we see Bairstow have his first throw at the stumps in the next test.....?

The first over. Without a doubt.

You can strongly argue that it’s not in the spirit of cricket to tell ground staff to prepare flat, lifeless wickets (When that’s completely not the case historically).

If they are still throwing down wickets and mankading as the series goes on then good luck to them as they clearly aren’t focusing on the game - If that’s the case they will get blown out of the water. Again, the English cricketers and the media are just getting sucked in and feeding their emotions. The more they carry on the worse the results will be. Last series they carried on with Steve Smith and look how that ended up…. Australia don’t mind playing the villain and these idiots don’t get it…

Re: Ashes 2023

Take nothing away from England, they sent us in and we were 4 down at lunch. You can paint a scenario any way you want, however if you send a team in they need to be bowled out on the first day for a total under 300 - They did that and are now seriously in the game (Didn’t do it at Lords and it was only a freakish innings that got them so close). Getting 3 wickets claws Australia back in the contest, however we need at least another 3 in tonight first session to be back in this game. Whilst Australia weren’t at their best they also answer back most of the time when the game looks to be getting away from them.

Re: Ashes 2023

Whilst we let England got too many in the end, they also let Mitch Marsh get 100 more than he should have. 4/142 and the game is genuinely 50/50 right now. Anything over 250 and England will have to bat very well to win because we’re gonna get chances. Pressure does funny things to people and when you’re 2-0 down with no room for a bad session when you have a bat in your hand it’s going to be eyes glued to the screen…

Getting to that lead of 250 is the issue, alot on the shoulders of Head, Marsh and Carey because i dont think we can guarantee much from the rest, have a feeling this will be over before stumps is due tonight

Absolutely, that’s why we need to get it over 250 otherwise we will need an all time great bowling performance to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

England have over 300 in 3 of their 5 innings so far.

I don’t think 250 will be enough, England love a fourth innings run chase, with the crowd behind them, revenge for the last test and us with an experienced spinner I would be backing England in.

I reckon we need a lead of 320. We are what 4/116 but Warner is horrendous and both Smith and Laba gave their wickets away.

Let’s see how they go with the little birdie on their shoulder telling them they are 2-0 down with bat in hand. 250 is plenty to create opportunities to win in this scenario in my books, you just need to take those opportunities when they present!

How good is quality Test Cricket!

Re: 2023 Adelaide Footy League - Division 4

There’s no place for common sense and or logic on these forums Zed. Obviously it’s reflective on the difference between the best and worst. Plympton, Lockleys and to a lesser extent Walkerville clearly have a lesser gap between their best and worst when compared to Morphettville Park, Kenilworth and Heccies. Still find it staggering how close on a win/loss ratio the clubs mentioned are.

FMD if England put as much effort in to their Test Cricket preparation as they put in to their hysterical and delusional spin to their media then they would be unbeatable. You could seriously write a book on the shit that’s coming out of their camp over the last 2 months. Winning 4 tosses at home and consistently by luck getting the best of the bowling conditions at Test level and still can’t beat a touring party that haven’t beaten you in 22 years on home soil. Send these dickheads to India where they can get flogged 4-0 on pitches that turn sideways on day 1.

The only reason why anyone would be “shitcanning” it is because of their crack at the league and the ongoing posts on here. There are some very general statements being posted on why the league “may have” not supported it, however then went go to post such intimate knowledge of knowing a certain person was dead against it at league HQ. Post all the actual facts on why it wasn’t supported and then you may get a balanced opinion. FWIW good on the blokes, however I’m certain there is more to the reason why it wasn’t supported than what is being posted.

Re: AdFL Tribunal Listing

Given the number of people who play each weekend and crackdowns on things like dangerous tackles an extraordinary result for the league to keep a clean sheet over an entire weekend.

Pats on the back all round

Great result for the league....well done :)

They've done a great job in recent years.....some may whinge about the game getting soft but imo the league has done by far whats best for the genuine guys who want to go out and 'play' football each week.

Not just the league as it is, but the Clubs and players. Ultimately clubs and players seem to be largely embracing this mindset rather than having it imposed on them against their will. For everyone's benefit

There is a pretty big deterrent for clubs - Having your affiliation stripped is pretty confronting. If you’re a dickhead whose intentions are to go out and hurt people you don’t belong on a footy field. There is a small minority that complain the game has gone soft, however the game at Amateur level in particular hasn’t ever been in better shape and the standards are as good collectively as they have ever been over the last 3-4 years in particular. If you put a side up in any division against any side from even 10-12 years ago head to head todays clubs would win comfortably and it’s far safer.

Re: AdFL Tribunal Listing

Putting in some context, who here remembers when clubs supplied umpires for B’s & C’s? Was the biggest load of shit each week and it fuelled massive fights. It was clearly an issue as club umpires could only umpire the defensive half for obvious reasons.

Personally, I don’t have any issues with umpire abuse, striking ect. Dangerous tackles and head high football incidents are a massive issue even at the highest level. The game is clearly going through a transition that over time will settle down with the evolvement of the game. Overall, todays product in any division is far better than it was even 10 years ago. Understand the context and there’s always room for improvement, however fmd go back to even the late 2000’s and this is far better. Personal opinion.

Re: AdFL Tribunal Listing

Being found guilty of striking a player has to be worth more games than a dangerous tackle

In most cases there’s no arguments there however you can’t be as general as that. If a player intentionally defends and misses the ball to make connection to someone’s head I see that as a lesser concern than picking up a player and intentionally dumping them to the ground with no way to break the fall.

Re: SAAFL Player records

The 10:15 time slot at the same venue imo is easily the biggest influence on players prolonging their careers. I’d second the clamping down on thuggery compared to 10-15 years ago. People that play footy still need to go to work and having a far safer playing environment minimises the serious incidents - Community culture towards thuggery has largely changed too.

The more I think about an amnesty the more I like it.

Imagine the prisoners dilemma. A player self-reports and the club doesn’t, the club is in the shitter, same vice-versa.

The rational course of action would be to self-report

How are clubs like Gaza, Jervois, Kybybolite and Willaston meant to cop that amnesty then? They have already been charged and in the majority convicted.

Goody saints won't lose a game.

Don’t underestimate Rocs.
They will recruit well (a couple of Jonas boys, plus others), and will not lose much.

Them & Goodies top 2 for sure.

Hard to think these 2 were the best div 1 sides in 2020….

There is a reason why D1 is easily the best grass roots competition in SA and that’s because of the depth of standard. Other comps go on about the best sides in their leagues, if you go past the top 2-3 the sides when comparing then D1 is streets ahead at both league and reserves level compared to any other league in SA. You can fall off pretty quickly as we all know.

Abernethy (and others) oversaw the darkest days of our clubs history and anyone with a memory long enough should give him no time when considering who to vote for.

I’m not sure Tredders is in it for the club either.
Warren could make bigger waves than Bruce.
But I see what you’re saying with Bruce.

Tredrae is their only AFL premiership captain and in the media demands the club to be more ruthless which I still cant find any problems with? He’s arrogant and can be - When Port were at their best they were arrogant just like Hawthorn, Brisbane Lions ect. From an outsiders point of view he doesn’t give a **** who he offends and just demands results and a game style that consistently stands up. He should have been on the board years ago imo.

$186k is still a heck of a lot of money. Even if half of that is suspended and if Rosellas claim that the club was $80k plus in debt prior to all this then that’s a serious problem (It’s a serious problem if your clubs debt is quarter of that). The next few weeks are going to be interesting.

Re: AFL 2024

This is tragic news.
It's a great game we learn as kids and unfortunately there are some collisions that just happen.
These will continue to happen as it's a collision sport.
The AFL have done great things to minimise the risk but you can not eliminate it.

And now this is going to come down to Brayden Maynard which I think is really unfair.
He was involved in one collision with Brayshaw not the 10 or whatever number of prior knockouts he's had.
That part of his statement I didn't like.

His career is now finished from the results of that hit. He can say what he likes in my opinion as it’s his health that’s affected, not someone else’s feelings.

Do clubs hire a bus for these "road trips" like country clubs do?

TTG did once to play against us. The bus couldn't get into the carpark so they had to walk from the street to the changeroom

I played for Red Cliffs in Mildura for a bit and they used to also do joint presentations afterwards when playing the likes of Robinvale who got the bus in to town at 4:45 after the games finished. Those joint presos were the best joint initiative to this day I’ve seen at any footy club as the players and supporters all hung around. The kitchen opened up early and the hosting clubs absolutely cleaned up with bar and food takings. The mates you make from those events at other clubs was also something else.

Re: Australian International Summer 2023/24

It’s a shame that many compare our sides rather than just appreciate them. That Australian team from 1999-2004 is probably the greatest Test side that has collectively ever played the game. In fairness it was the best Test innings ever played at Eden Gardens in 2001 that left that debate somewhat open. The opposition was littered with all time greats at that level during that era and it’s going to be a very long time (If ever) some team comes close to that standard. Right now we are a very good side who have an absolute elite bowling line up. To have a side that comes close to the 99-04 standard is borderline impossible with todays cricketing schedule and priorities.

Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League - Division 6

Sadly it reconfirms there simply is too many teams in the northern burbs. Could be wrong but it feels there is always one of the clubs who just cant fill a side. Was Smithfield, now Elizabeth. EP appeared to really struggle with the b grade last year, that wont be a problem this year.
No, sadly it just reaffirms that the merry go round of players are to the detriment of the clubs. They pick and choose where they play, when they play based on how that side is looking. When the going is good, they're all keen, when it looks like there is work to be done they drive 5min down the road to the next hot club.

Wasn't long ago Smithfield went from D7 to D4 and were flying... Elizabeth won the flag onto 3 years ago from memory.. Eastern Park almost made the D5 Grand Final a few years back. Brahma Lodge won a stack of flags in D7 and last year could barely field a one team, now they're all back.

Every club has a core group of committed players and hard working volunteers - but are let down by players who choose to take the easy path on the hunt for premiership success.

Using too many clubs is a cop out and shit excuse - don't hear clubs south of the CBD saying the same - Mitchell Park, Kenilworth, Flinders Uni, Marion, SHOC would all be within a stones throw of each other.. or to the West - Portland, Pt Districts, Henley, Seaton, Rosewater, North Haven etc.

Throw in Edwardstown, Plympton and Brighton as well
CLG, Mitcham, Unley and even Goodwood

Goodwood, Edwardstown, Morphettville Park, Marion, Mitchell Park, Brighton Kenilworth, CLG, Mitcham, Unley, SHOC (Middle Zschool), Blackwood, Ironbank, Happy Valley, Flagstaff Hill, WOS, Scotch ect. You could get to either ground in that group inside 15 mins on a Saturday. Biggest cluster of clubs in the State by a long way.

Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League - Division 6

It’s not rocket science or at all hard to suggest that the bottom side(s) in any division would be knocked off by the top 2-3 of the division below - The only exemption would be D1 most years.

Re: HFL Division 1 (Central)

Realistically you would have to take out Ammos D1 (They’d win it 98% of the time given their depth and talent) and outside of that there would only be 3-4 comps that would be a chance of taking it out.

Put all of that debate aside hypothetically the only way you would make it enticing is financial incentive. The salary caps in place put an end to all of that as it would be incredibly unfair to other clubs within their comps.

Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League - Division 6

Would there be any issue if a club, who only have 1 team, played in the C grade comp for a few years? At least it gives them an avenue and time to try and rebuild while not mucking around the clubs with 2+ teams.
If only... But yet here we are, having to play ~18 genuine C graders in division 6 A grade.
We asked multiple times to go down, but the league are firm on their decision.

Id love to hear the leagues response to that comment, I’m certain there would be very good reasoning why you’re still in D6. Without intentionally being too harsh I personally believe the league has done pretty well to make allowances for 4 clubs to only field an A grade side as in years gone by you just simply wouldn’t exist. Fielding a single senior side in a C grade competition isn’t the answer to returning a club to multiple grades. If it does succeed history shows they become cellar dwellers in lower grades/leagues long term. Post Covid has thrown up many curveballs

Who did they play?Did their new big names play? Lots going on there, be fun to watch how they go.

They played Henley. Not really a shock that one of the D3 favourites smashed them to be fair.
