Re: 2019 AFL Grand Final - Richmond v GWS

Called it last week. This was 99 all over again when Carlton ruined what would have been a great Grand Final by beating Essendon and wasting everyone’s time next week. Collingwood getting knocked off ruined today’s game. Anyway, we’ll done Richmond - I wish my footy club who has some of the best resources in the country could pull their shit together and perform consistently like you do.... The only hope I hold is that Richmond were the biggest laughing stock in the league for a long time, however I won’t hold my breath....

They are just playing footy in Adelaide for 1-2 years and then going to the country for big bucks mate. The Riverland Footy League is a better standard than the SFL too. Get with the agenda....

Let’s be honest they could start the test at anytime of the day and still pats the Bangers

It’s embarrassing that they decline to play a night test in Australia and within 6-7 months they have scheduled a night Test at home. Hypocrisy at its highest level. At the end of the day they knew we would be far harder to beat if the ball was doing a bit as it would have taken away any advantage that they would have had with the bat when we didn’t have Smith or Warner in the line up.

No doubt about that, could be an entertaining 2nd session and a bit, get a lead up over 400 and send them back in for the last hour tonight
Yeah cant see this making day 5

Fair play to the curator, you can't prepare a pitch for the fu**en apocalypse but he's still managed to do a far better job than the clown in Adelaide.

I get the temps in Perth but you can’t be happy with a pitch that is a spitting cobra on the 3rd day. One more afternoon bake and that pitch is going to be a landmine. I’d be tempted to declare now in case another bowler cops a broken hand, finger or arm...

Adelaide and Brisbane are by far the best Test decks in the country. As a venue Adelaide is far better and would be one of the best 3-5 cricketing venues in the World. It’s been curated over the years to get a result in the last 4 sessions which means runs galore for the first 3 days. The only time it changed was when they played the first day-night Test and they were worried about the pink ball scuffing up, so they made it a green top. To suggest Adelaide is a road is a bit rich. It has consistently produced the best outcomes (Most days and results) for a very long time.

It’s not just political, it’s a lot more than that. Councils, The Greens, Scott Morrison the list goes on. I saw a post on a service station where they were portraying a local service station as Villians because they were charging $44 for an 8 pack of Mt Franklin 1.5 litre waters. Walk in to any service station in Australia and if you get a single bottle of Mt Franklin 1.5 litre water for under $5.50 each off promotion then you’re doing well. Independent Servos run off the smell of an oily rag and are hard work... It’s just a dead set witch hunt from some ordinary people.

Re: TDK's International Test Cricket Update's

Good win by england really convincing. I know SA are struggling but what impressed me was the batting, sibley and pope scoring hundreds in the last 2 tests against what is still a good bowling line up (SAs batting on the other hand is awful) is awesome. Both lads under 25 showing promise and dom bess also at 22 getting a 5 fa. We finally showed the value of batting time rather then trying to blast it which has got us in all sorts over the last 4 years.
I wouldn't get too carried away with Bess mate, he couldn't get one in the second dig while Root took 4.
South Africa and the Pakis might have a competitive match, that's how bad they have become

Pakistan would wipe the floor with the Saffers home or away. I’d hate to see what India or Australia would do to them. Dead set rubbish and wouldn’t get near a few domestic Australian line ups.

Re: COVID-19

Its not an easy call to make.

There will be a lot clubs that require income from 9 home games to pay coaches and players.
If these players aren't getting paid for the first 9 rounds, they might jump ship to another league. If they are getting paid, the clubs will go bust.
It's going to be a huge call to pull the pin.

Every league will be in the same boat. No one is jumping ship to other leagues. If you ain’t training or playing you can’t seriously expect to get paid.

Re: COVID-19

Don't get sucked in to the Facebook page of our friend who has a vested interest in there being as many games of footy in some country leagues as possible. His survey begging cricket leagues to work with footy leagues to allow football to continue into October has no consideration for the football club people, and I don't just mean players, but also the committee and volunteers who come the end of September have other interests and commitments that take priority every year. I for one go camping every October long weekend and the 5 days of pure relaxation, plus a lot of beer and red wine, brings closure to football for another season.

I don't give a toss about players who earn a bit of coin or businesses that profit from community footy. Community footy wouldn't exist without the club and league volunteers and everyone just has to deal with this whilst staying within the parameters of our normal season. Tough titties if we have a half season or maybe no season at all. A global pandemic takes precedence I'm afraid.

The Victorian Metro decision is just a little less cautious, but possibly naive, and they are only prepared to declare 2 May as the end date of their postponement and that they will re-convene on 14 April to review that date. Those leagues are independent of any body that sits above them. All community footy in SA comes under the banner of the SACFL.
Cricket has already been heavily impacted with finals cancelled. That's revenue lost. Why should footy take precedence?
If footy wants to continue playing for longer, good luck finding ovals to play on!

Fantastic point. My club is over 100 years old and played in the SANFL through World Wars, I love my club as much as anyone but for me right now Footy returning doesn’t even come close on top of my mind as a priority. There is far bigger issues at hand and once time comes, footy will find its place. But it shouldn’t take precedence over another sport.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

So after all the confusion in SA we are allowed to meet in groups of 10, not 2, makes organising golf a bit easier :)

There is no confusion, people just only listen to what they want to hear and nit pick technical points which has been the norm over the last few weeks. As a previous post stated “Dickheads are standing out more” which is the most accurate thing I’ve read all week.

The PM said the 2 person rule and all other rules he stated was up to each state to implement and he clearly said that some states won’t have to do this. The Police in SA haven’t changed anything since last week apart from Cellar Doors closing. Where possible Police are shutting down industries who make their income by tourism as they don’t want to give people a reason to go to regional areas over Easter. I suspect the web will be tightened in SA next week before Easter.

I seriously can’t fathom people still going overseas, interstate or intrastate for Holidays at the moment or “To see family”.

Russia + Saudi's throwing a tanty with oil prices, as they try and cripple the US.. coupled with this coronavirus.. dark times they a coming. :(

Yep!

I have to admit i do think to a point we are risking the next generations future to greatly at the moment.

Without getting hammered by Bum Crack (LOL) i do fear for my childrens future. Was chatting with an elderly gym member who is coming every day, i believe his 80+ years old. Was interesting that even he was concerned at where the country will be in 5-15 years time due to trying to protect him. He was an old school farmer who still gets out and does some work, he believes we are all piss weak lol.

For me Covid19 is one issue. My worry is if a major countries economy completely blows up and is destroyed from it then that could spark much bigger long term issues potentially involving a large scale War. I’m happy to be proven wrong...

Our issues so far are minor compared to the USA and Europe. You seriously can’t just lock up the elderly for 12 months and then go on running society as per normal thinking we’ll be fine. Large amounts of young and middle aged people still would die as hospitals become triage War zones and won’t be able to cope. Good luck if you have family members with asthma, respiratory or other health conditions. Right now **** the footy. We got bigger issues to get on top of.

If you start early July and go through to the end of September for 12-13 weeks there won’t be many issues unless it’s a SACA venue and you could play it as per discussions at the moment. If you did have issues grounds like St Marys, Thebby and a heap of SANFL grounds all without cricket pitches will all be available.

Re: COVID-19

I find it funny how there is some 12000 (this is a number i heard JK say) people playing senior footy each week, probably add half that again for support staff (approx) and add in people spectating well over 20,000 people each weekend. These same people are currently inside Marion, TTP, Bunnings etc each weekend. Playing/volunteering/spectating football will just shift all these people back outside and probably at less risk of catching or spreading anything. There would actually be more measures in place at footy clubs to social distance and adhere to all the rules than there would be at a shopping centre which hardly seems regulated now anyway.

The issue is at the shops you aren’t in the vicinity of others for an extended period of time. By walking past someone you have a far less chance of catching Covid19 compared to socialising for an extended period. Q’s point about junior sports has some merit.

Re: COVID-19

You hear of clubs doing it tough, but you’d be playing a dangerous game if you didn’t field a side in or near Adelaide especially. Players will go elsewhere and if they enjoy that experience then they ain’t coming back. Also, blokes nearing or are over 30. If they decide to not play a lot of them won’t start up again, or if they do at best it’ll be half cocked in a lower grade - Trust me on the latter from experience. Starting up again in 2021 will take a long time to get back as a club anywhere in the State.

No arguments from me!

My oldies do a lot for the club and they have been through a fair bit over the last 4 weeks since the article was done. I’m thrilled to see it in the paper today to boost their morale. Kenilworth have a core group of diehard contributors Including committee and coaches that deserve as much recognition as anyone. To see their efforts recently when needed the most and how the club looks now in the most challenging of circumstances is mind blowing.

Fair effort for Brighton to knock over PNU today. As a club coming from the SFL what they have achieved in the last 4 years is remarkable. Some of the strongest football clubs in SA not too long ago existed in the SFL and we are now starting to see some of these clubs who have changed leagues have a little resurgence. All clubs who have changed have at least had a bit of a taste of success and these clubs have also been a great addition to the league.

Probably one of the most frustrating games I’ve watched in recent times during the first half. Both sides looked flat and the scoreboard reflected that. It was pretty hotly contested. Both of those teams have a fair bit of quality to return. Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2020

Personally been a fan about the way clubs have gone about business this year for 99% of the time. The way the league has got the comp up and running and the evolving communications have been handled exceptionally well In my opinion. JK and team have done a magnificent job to date.

The Standard this year in the A’s overall has improved a fair bit and so it should with less players going country. I’ve seen 2 and possibly 3 games this year in particular that at this level showed as good as the best intensity I’ve seen in a while and most of the time you get those games once a year in the minor rounds. I will say though that the overall standard in the reserves comp drops away quickly and I think that’s a reflection on covid taking its toll on how many next tier players are somewhat committed.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2020

I’ve known Mick for close to 30 years since I was a 7 year old kid. At his peak he was an absolute beast and he whilst he knew it too - He was also as harder worker on the track as anyone.

Mick at his peak is one of the best Amateur footballers I’ve seen, but when the Kenilworth Football club was truly on its knees in the mid 90’s Mick could have played for any club in SA - From there the club had a meeting about its existence after an extremely tough period. Mick stood up and said the club would not fold here and now (It was far easier to fold at that point). Mick at that point took a group of players to Art Bradshaws house to discuss the clubs options and effectively get Arts blessing. Until Art and Bill passed Mick would go see both to have a chat and shake their hands before he went in to the rooms every week.

Mick is not all bees and honey - He’s been sacked by the club numerous times as is the Kenilworth joke. There are times he shits you but I’d never question his toughness/aggression at the contested footy, resilience, overall ability and most of all I admire the way he has gone about representing the club and the league on field. You have to be a bit crazy to be playing still at 53 years of age - He still plays ok too! Toughest footballer I’ve seen and a great family friend.

Salisbury v Pooraka
No Armstrong, timpano x 2 and Egel will hurt Pooraka, think Salisbury are a real Smokey in the grade. If they can get past Pooraka this week I think they can make the GF as they match up well with both CLG and Kenilworth
Thinking this one might be abit of a blowout and I’ll pick Salisbury by 6 goals

Kenilworth v CLG
Once one club, these two old rivals are playing for the chance to take on Lockleys next week. Earlier in the year Kenilworth blew the lions away with rampant attacking footy. They’ll go into this one as raging favourites. They will hope to bury the ghosts of 2019 and move onto next weeks
Closer then round 4 but Kenilworth by 22 points

CLG and Kenilworth in the twos
Yes big outs for Pooraka, Timpano's are in a wedding

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2020

Lots of 'What ifs' either way. But didn't like No.20 from Kenilworth dropping the knees on the Lockleys defender to give away a cheap free kick to start that passage of play off. Was a real 'Coach Killer', from a 50-50 ball inside your Forward 50 to the ball going down the other end resulting in the winning goal of a Grand Final.
Yeah mate, you'd probably find <a href="tel:20-30 50/50">20-30 50/50</a> calls watching a replay from the other side of where the umpire views the game from, at the end of the day you've gotta make sure you always protect your lead or get far enough in front so any 50/50 decisions won't hurt you.

Lockleys were the best side for the season, they deserved to win the flag, Kenilworth were gallant in defeat and it would've been kudos to them if they had of been able to topple Lockleys at the big dance, well done to both teams for such a spectacle of finals footy.

Was a great game to watch - It wasn’t pretty but the pressure was incredible throughout and it was probably the most intense game for 4 quarters at this level I’ve ever seen in the lower divs.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2020

Well i'll say it, I think it's ordinary from Lockleys - that's putting it nicely.

Told up front start of the season deliver us a flag or you're done.
Whispers during the season that they were keen for a player/coach to take over next year and had lined up their man.
Delivers them said flag in one of the most challenging seasons ever.
Less than two weeks later advert goes up for coaches.

The advert makes it seem certain that the mid-year rumours were true and this decision was always coming regardless of the outcome of the season.

The bloke takes your club to your first premiership in god knows how many years, finishes top 3 most years it seems and you reward him with pushing him out the door? Surely out of respect you allow him that opportunity to decide if he wishes to go on next year - he deserves at least that - and if he does then you allow him one more season.

He has hardly missed a trick.

The zed has been royally banged in the backside.
Sounds pretty f**ked up. If they have a playing coach already lined up why they wasting people's time advertising?

Are you sure its not in their constitution to advertise said positions?

Even if it was then then it wouldn’t be a shock when told to reapply. We parted ways with Zwecky a long time ago under completely different circumstances and looking back now it was hardly Steve’s fault and as a club we were in a far different position. From an outsider looking in this looks incredibly harsh given the current scenario.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2020

I’m sure the powers that be will have their reasons and we don’t have to like it, but looking at the overall picture you just see what sort of a club Lockleys was 10 years ago compared to now. Their following on GF day when of the 2000 people that rocked up probably 12-300 were their own. You weren’t getting that 10 years ago. It’s a culture that grows over time and as I said at the time we parted ways with Zwecky we were at the end of a 4-5 year rough trott that he got the arse end of and looking back now the split was good for both parties given Zwecky’s influence on CLG and Lockleys. Time will determine whether it’s the right call.

Can’t believe I’m defending a bloke that gave me the hospital ball from hell one day that got me ko’d v Elizabeth :)

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2020

McDonough to coach.
Bingo

Yep, had this confirmed by couple of Lockleys people today. Mentioned earlier on here they were wanting a player coach, so Plugger (Matt McDonough) been appointed.

Many Lockleys people (and posters on here!) thought they would win the flag in a canter with their gun team, so the fact they fell in by a point in the GF was the nail in the coffin for the coach.

Seems a tough call, but were rumblings around the place later in the season. Time will tell, just because a bloke played a couple of AFL games and never lived up to his reputation does not necessarily make him a good coach?

If that’s even remotely true internally Id be shocked if those thoughts were continued in to finals after the Rd 8 clash. Our side this year was better than the side that cleaned up most of the minor rounds In 2019 and failed come finals - The first 5-6 rounds we had the most players in the entire comp go through our A’s and once that settled we gained momentum quickly. This year we played Lockleys 3 times and 2 of those games I saw 2 of the most intense games I’ve seen in div 4/5 footy in the last 15 years. The other game was heading that way until the rain came and favoured Lockleys bigger bodies.

I seriously can’t believe this year went for just 9 rounds. Whilst we lost GF day, it’s a day that will be spoken about for a very long time to come. Time will tell if it’s the right decision that Lockleys have made - For me I just don’t see any sense in such a radical decision after such a build up and ultimately a successful outcome.
