Re: Nathan Bassett

If he didn't sign it, it would be considered up for negotiation still. If he told them he'd sleep on it, they have every right to change it when he comes back to them.

LOL You'll go a long way in the business world

If two parties thrash out at the negotiation table and come up with a set of conditions and level of remuneration that is agreed upon, then the paperwork presented is significantly different, you consider that good business practice?

Re: Good Movies

Watched Seven Psychopath's last night - Good movie, with some excellent dialogue and strong performances (most notably the always great Christopher Walken). Think it missed an opportunity to be a "great" movie via hitting a few flatspots after a fantastic, albeit frenetic, start.

Re: SAAFL Division 3 2014

put a 1 in front of that 5 and that'd be more accurate... *edit - close, thanks Groove :)

I think folding is going a bit far Joker. They've lost pretty much a whole A grade side and their coaches. From what I've been told the funds to recruit are still available to a point but it pushes the point home that none of us local clubs can compete with the $$ that country clubs are throwing around

At the end of the day, BL are just as much eligible to take advantage of the no promotion rule as any Div 8 or any div 7 team - and even though we know what they've lost, I'm not sure I agree with a GF runner up side being demoted to div 5 for their efforts.
then why are they going down???
can't they battle it out for a year instead of opting out?

It's not a given yet.

But read my post above and it will put it in perspective.
Surely you cop the heat now and then try and rebuild in div 4 next year, rather than potentially rebuilding in div 5 next year...

Re: SAAFL Division 3 2014

I think this is a bit hard to cop with Brahma Lodge electing to stay down. In my opinion the club had built its successful years based upon recruiting players from other clubs with there money and having a couple of successful seasons.

Did the club recruit guys who would stay around the club in the long haul or just jump ship when more money was offered?

Did the club build a culture where the players want to stay at the club no matter what money was thrown around by others?

Now Brahma Lodge are in the same position of many other clubs in the area who don't have the money to pay the same amount as Brahma had done in the past and are asking to stay down?

Is it a right to have a successful season each year or do you have to take the pain to make the successful seasons feel better.

I think Brahma should be made to stay up and feel the pain that a lot of other clubs have felt in the past.

Re: SAAFL Division 4 2014

If BL have resigned themselves to being useless in 2014., Why not sit in d3, cop there hiding and be d4 in 2015. Now they potentially run the risk of ending up in d5 comes seasons end. Long way back

all the hard work and money they invested in getting the club to a decent div gonna be wasted....personally i would have not paid players this year sat bottom in div 3 regrouped for div 4 next year

maybe all the money you pumped into buying flags and players the last few years you could use on under 14s 16s and 18s

compare the 2 clubs Hope Valley and Brahma Lodge one went the way of cash the other on working the junior programme

Re: SAAFL Division 4 2014

Well their B grade might be.

a) what's to say the players are of A grade quality?

b) Don't forget, they're still only allowed 15 points like the rest of us, meaning they'll get to use 7 blokes in the A grade and maybe not even that many depending on points left over from last year (if any)

Perhaps people should wait and see who rocks up on the doorstep before panicking to whether the wool is being pulled over our eyes...

Re: SAAFL Division 4 2014

Sorry for intruding but.... I'm sure Brahma Lodge put a lot of faith in the people they chose to take the club forward. All of a sudden they all leave and they are left with nothing. People, what happened to getting behind the Aussie battler and not kicking them when they're down. We can talk all day about the mistakes, but this club is trying to save themselves from extinction. Where they play is irreverent , as long as they play. Compassion is not something experienced in footy all that often, but atm, we all need to work for a strong league and all clubs are part of that. I'll go now, with friends or not.
By "faith" you mean "money", right?

No compassion from me. We lost a Grand Final to them by 100pts two years ago. No one from Brahma Lodge was crying to the league that day. I'm sorry, but if you live by the sword, you die by the sword.

They should have been made to stay in Div 4 as per the rules and taken on the chin whatever came their way

Re: (insert username here) is, has, thinks, etc, etc.....

Great work fisho, do you feel heaps better?

Is hubby going along well?

I do! I've got more energy, probably because I don't spend half my time lying on the couch too hungover to do anything productive. I also got a new job as an academic editor and if I was still drinking, I wouldn't be able to do it - it's bloody demanding. (I'm not sure why I got the job in the first place - I think they thought I had a Ph.D, because it says so on my CV and then 'in progress' in small font. 8-[ )

And yeah, Mr McSpaz is dry as well - he's been sober longer than I have, cos I had a couple of beers at a mate's wedding in January. He's got back into his long-distance running and he's a bloody machine!

Can't see us wanting to drink again - I sincerely hope not, anyway. It would've ruined the family the way things were going. As it is now, the kids are happy, they've got a home they feel safe in; work's going well, we're saving money, and my writing's on track too. I had a publishing house express interest last year but I don't think I was prepared to do what they expected of me - they wanted me to expand and rewrite some areas, which I was doing anyway, but I couldn't meet their deadlines and I was feeling at sea with a lot of other things. Last year was the worst of my life. Better things for the future, I hope.

Re: Clubs in strife

I would say that Houghton would have an easier time of attracting players, as there are plenty of blokes around the North Eastern suburbs happy to have a kick and a laugh with mates in a lower division. Plus there are a large amount of high schools in the area with kids still playing Aussie Rules rather than soccer.

The challenge more sits with the higher division clubs attracting enough quality players that want to take it serious, so need to look outside of the local areas.

Agreed Haynzy, Houghton seem compfortable (while im sure always looking to play as high as possible) with where they play. They dont 'sell their soul' to be something they arent. I know a few of the houghton boys and they just love the club culture and playing with mates so it serves their purpose.

All of the North-Eastern suburb clubs are very well run and it is definitely an area with a high interest in Aussie Rules and rich in talent.

Re: SAAFL division 6 2014

It would be a shame to see BOS drop off because they are a quality side and have been for a number of years. I know the games against us in the past were beauties. Really enjoyed the build up to the game and also the game itself. One of the big rivalries in the SAAFL.

Ouch!

......the B Grade lost by 37 goals
That's ridiculous.

And to all those who thought we were talking sh!t and dropping grades was the easy option...
I still believe you should have been made to tough it out in Div 4 for 2 reasons. When you were thrashing teams with all your imports that was fine but now take the easy option and not go down the hard way. Secondly now a club whoever that maybe who finishes 9th is unfairly relegated imo.I know you will think its sour grapes Browny but you have to do the hard yards on the way down, after enjoying the good times on the way up

Re: Clubs in strife

Has the points system had a negative effect on grass roots football? Is it more of a coincidence that when this came in, it made college sides stronger and the less aussie rules populated area weaker?
Has it? Why do you say that?
Because it gives them access to an exceptionally large number of zero pointers without having to do the ground work (ie running junior teams). Even a large junior program will not produce that amount of zero pointers.

Re: SAAFL Division 3 2014

Whilst I hate to see any club go under, the idea of rewarding poor management of any club with a red letter day at the Adelaide Oval is counterintuitive. If we want to promote amateur league "grass roots footy" as a legitimate part of the Aussie Rules landscape then the showcasing should be of the teams/clubs who are doing it right, ie building a club, a culture and a philosophy, not just squandering cash chasing premiership cups.
I agree with the notion of under 18's as curtain raisers or similar, but really, The Aldinga Sharks vs Kilburn? It just makes a mockery. It's a bit like the freakshow concept, it might make people want to have a look but does it do anything to reduce stigma? - nope. It's just sending a message that the SAAFL is just for the old, or incompetent. Not a message I would've thought we'd want to send.

He played for Barossa Districts yesterday, i'm surprised Roger James would have someone like that at his club. Probably says how desperate they are

Funny thing is that he said at the start of the year he knew he wouldn't be playing A's or be getting paid and was more than happy to help out the young kids in the reserves. Turns out he left after 10 weeks to play A's and earn $$. Disgraceful if you ask me. No one likes a club slut.

His reputation precedes him. The only surprise here is that he lasted 10 weeks.
