Re: SAAFL division 6 2014

BP wizard: i would have thought its the coaches job to be at EVERY club function....
Hmm I think it depends on the function, and how long they are there. Personally i dont think coaches should be at the club getting blind with the players, opens them up to an array of issues as well as jeopardising the players level of respect for them.

Coaches job is to ensure on field success, encourage a positive culture and nuture/develop players. Yes support what the club is doing off the field so long as it doesn't affect what they are trying to do on the field.

you dont have get blind at an event..every social night organised, every football related meal night, every presentation after games and end of year awards, every event the junior committee ask for attendance etc etc are the functions i would expect my club coach to be at and as a coach i would attend all of these events and my social life ( whats left of it :) ) would take a back seat to these events..as A grade coach you are the face of the club..

Re: HFL Central Division

Grand Final Week
Uraidla Vs Echunga -
Last year’s Central Div Premiers Vs Last year’s Country Div Premiers - should be an interesting clash as both teams have plenty of Grand Final experience over the past years. Both times these two have faced each other this year Uraidla has accounted for Echunga by 7 goals 7 points in the 1st round then 7 goals and 1 point in round 10. Looking at both rounds it seems as though Uraidla have had one and a bit explosive quarters but for rest of the game it seemed pretty even. So the question is can Echunga (on a smaller oval such as Hahndorf) be able to contain them for the full 4 quarters whilst still being able to play the same attacking style of play which has seen them allow to advance to a Grand Final. Liked what I have seen from Echunga over the past 2 weeks, however Uraidla have been the heavyweights of this competition for some years now will be a closer one than expected, tipping an upset and Echunga by 4 points.

Re: HFL Central Division

They made a mistake sending lofty back, lofty copped it on the chin and showed the whole competition the rules are wrong and need to be changed, hopefully someone has stood up and taken notice!

Are you serious ? Lofty copped it on the chin !!

They squealed like stuck pigs, they actively worked against Echunga's application to come up, they called every HFL club President to make a case as to why they shouldn't go down (and got shirty if they didn't get the response they were seeking), then they misrepresented a number of facts to the HFL clubs in a letter they distributed. They did everything but "cop it on the chin".

I think everyone conveniently forgets that when Mt Lofty were relegated they finished stone motherless last in both A grade and B grade. They were hardly the high flying juggernaut of Central Division.

Supreme Court rules in Echunga's favour.

An unbiased decision made at the highest level taking into account all aspects surrounding relegation and the process.

Great win for Hills Football overall and common sense prevailing.

Re: HFL Central Division

Mortgage shield needs to be scrapped.
To many flaws.
Not just caused by HFL but Community Football League.

If as a league we cannot issue a permit to a child to encourage them to play football because it will affect the Mortgage Shield the shield needs to be scrapped.
If we cannot allocate APPS as written in the CFL constitution because it affects the Mortgage Shield then another reason the shield needs to go.
Larger towns must have voted this in because they are basically guaranteed of not being relegated. Given Echunga result this will even be more biased towards bigger clubs now.

What now will happen with APPS points obviously finals should now count. It will make a big difference the likes of Echunga Mt Barker Uraidla will go from 9 points to 6 points.

Most sensible scenario bottom of Central A Grade goes down top of Country A Grade comes up. May even look at bottom 2 and top 2.

Re: HFL Central Division

Interesting bit of history.

Seems the make up of the competition changed to suit the times which is the best way forward IMO.

My thoughts would be to allow any hills club that wants to play Central comp to do so providing they can field all 4 teams every gameday.

Draw is to be structured from previous seasons results and is 18 - 20 rounds depending on AFL draw timing, association and country champs.

There is no need to play each other twice as this is another major roadblock in place currently.

Natural attrition will then take effect with clubs not strong enough falling back into the second tier comp.

Only 2 divisions with the second tier having all clubs left including current C grade sides.

Time and results will sort out the makeup of each division. ( no relegation - allow clubs to come up and go down as required )

No club shield / points as this is a definite roadblock if retained - and has simply been a safety net for clubs with strong juniors.

All clubs have the same apps points allowance with no extra allocation allowable, regardless of circumstance, ensuring an even chance for all.

This also stops the remuneration of players / recruits from increasing as points reduce.

Even rotation of finals match ground allocation set at the start of each season regardless of who is playing in them or likely to. ( no changes allowed once set )

Clubs must meet a certain criteria with respect to facilities to qualify to go in the finals ground rotation draw.

Level heads and common sense is needed from now on with "own club" agendas and "league bias" forgone for the sake of hills football.

Re: HFL Central Division

Legs Man please STFU

EVERYONE is sick to death of the HFL bashing.

The points system is working IMO, i honestly believe it has evened things out. It still plays into the hands of the clubs like your own with DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP pockets, but no system will ever change that.

I was a massive Echunga fan for what they were able to do last year until you got on here and started ranting. You had every right to challenge as the rule was poorly written and the correct judgement was handed down. So move on, and like others have said, spend your energy making the competition stronger. Not taking every opportunity to tarnish the best country football league in SA.

I am entitled to an opinion - as everyone here is!

It seems that the system is still flawed with respect to points allocation - particularly between Div 1 & Div 2.

Certainly not trying to tarnish the competition but trying to convey the things that need attention for us to be better.

Apologies extended if it is seen as HFL bashing as that is not my intention - but it is hard not to sometimes after past decisions.( I do get slightly carried away as you know)

Remuneration by EFC is certainly in line with most other clubs in Div 1 - and below some also - so that is a moot point.

Fully realise some of my comments can draw negative reaction and sometimes positive reaction - and as a forum for topical discussion this is the place to voice them.

You need to see my comments for what they are and stop seeing them as totally Echunga biased - as the majority are league overall based.
E.g. points for Bridgey and Mt Lofty, all clubs having even points allocated, making the pinnacle sides worth more club points, creating an even playing field, rewarding clubs with best facilities with finals matches etc etc.

Ultimately I only want the comp to be stronger and better as I am a passionate supporter and actually have some good mates at other Hills clubs - believe it or not!

I also look forward to seeing you at the footy - so please seek me out when visiting Echunga - as I would be pleased to buy you a beer (even you Chopper)

Obviously my comments wont change the HFL or clubs views - so moving on and hoping this season is a great one.
It's not so much against what you say, it's how many times you've posted the same comments. Almost as if you copy & paste once a week. We know your opinion on the points issue, don't have to bring it up every second post you make.

Thinking Goodwood and Uni will be thinking differently. The competition has improved again on last year.

Goodwood and uni are no chance either, athelstone are the best side I've seen since the Brisbane lions 3 premierships side

Are you kidding champ?! Do you even football.....
Dom Ascoli is an undisciplined, umpire arguer, after the play sniper, as fast as a hippo, below average skilled football player.
If he was actually any good he would be playing A grade.
Well he was good yesterday and very influential towards his teams cause - that's what I'm judging him on

Fair point tho if he was that good why is he playing B grade?
Some people are quality B graders but not capable of making the step up to A grade, perhaps he's one of them

Re: HFL Division 1 (Central)

A summary for followers around the state ...... This saturday will see Uraidla v Echunga in the 2nd Semi on the wide expanses of the Lobethal Oval. The winner has a 3 week rest until the grand final.

The 1st Semi between Torrens Valley v Hahndorf is being played the following Saturday (At Echunga ?).

I think the plan is to hold the 1st semi final at the loser of the second semi finals ground (Uraidla/Echunga). And the prelim will be at the winners ground (Echunga or Uraidla) as the winner goes straight through to the GF.

Grand Final at Balhannah.

I'm still trying to stomach the 3 week rest.... Not pointing fingers at anyone, but this has to be the worst programming I have ever seen. Regardless of the reason, and other things organised.... I really believe it is going to give the "winner" of the qualifying final, a major disadvantage. Yes, they may be fresh, have every player available and not sore.. but surely they will be a bit sluggish.

Has Uraidla or Echunga put any plans in place for this three week break? I.e. practice matches, game simulations etc?
They could go on their footy trip next weekend, have a week to recover, then be ready to go for the GF!! :D

Re: HFL Division 2 (Country)

Geez given McGahey a fair whack there Milly. I take it you know him well?? Im not saying I'm best mates with him but to say he's chasing coin and not a flag is absolutely ridiculous mate. Knowing him as I do I can guarantee he has approached every season of his footy journey preparing himself and sharing his experience and knowledge with his team mates with the goal of winning a gf. Unfortunately for him and the clubs that have had him on board haven't got there yet but you never know the Rams may be the group that he gets it done with. Guarantee his mates at Kersbrook haven't sat back and thought of him as a coin chaser . They know along with the other signings the Rams will be ultra competitive. Good luck to all teams in the Hills League I think it's brilliant that quality blokes and players are staying in the league and sharing their experience from the highest level.

Sure about that? Then why doesn't he join them? Just from looking from the outside some big thing$ happening at Nairne. Good luck to them. Worked for TV eventually

Maybe because his good mate Ebert has gone, Apples is a flog and the list is getting old.... Just say'n!

From my understanding, there was misinterpretation. It seems they thought that said players were only 2 points instead of 3 points because they played more games for Gepps in 2014 than Jervois in 2015.

Anyhoo, lesson learned, the points have been lost and they had a good win yesterday.

Theyre not the first and probably wont be the last to get it wrong.

4 yellow cards issued by the same ump who had his mate shaking his head...the 2 in the one incident you speak of Zedman were apparently told that they'd done nothing wrong that he just wanted to 'calm things down', even one of your players (credit to him) said to the ump that one of the guys wasn't even involved '...almost as good as receiving a free kick a couple of weeks ago because the umpire was lied to by an opposition player (where does that appear in the rule book?)...and they have no influence?? Hmmmm but credit all the same, you guys took your chances.

stunning use of the yellow cards..very officious and a bit over the top..free kick count 45-22 BOS's way was also a curious stat we thought..

did we tackle that badly all day?..must have eh!?

Ricky Pearce will be the coach for the new Western Warriors, Luke Nicholls to captain.

They'll assume the void left by "Rosewater" in Division 5, should they avoid relegation, 3x teams will be promoted from Division 7 instead of 2 to replace West Croydon and Marion will join Division 7 from the SFL.

Premier Jay Weatherill will endorse the move, claiming it a wonderful initiative for two proud clubs to join together on a new journey to create history.

Life members of Rosewater will see this as an opportunity to start fresh and rid themselves of recent bad publicity, and West Croydon will find the support and infrastructure and junior program it desperately craves.

Campbelltown is only 15mins away from Prospect. He can do both

Not ideal though. Particularly if the 1R game is tight

What's more important though. Surely A Grade takes priority, people get a bit hung up on B Grade, who really cares bar the players and parents.

My understanding is that he committed to the B Grade coaching job early in the piece and had to initially be coaxed into playing A Grade. You'd think as coach he'd have some emotional attachment to their success or failure.

Last week we were 2 goals down when he had to go, and won by 7 points

i can see 5 names that get a gig based on name only and no offense to duggan but not Captain of div 5 team

If Rance can be captain of the All Australian side, then anyone can captain a team of the year

"Build it and they will come" -
Brand new Clubrooms the envy of anyone in the league,
4 Senior Mens sides, (many clubs above struggle to field 3 senior sides, let alone 4)
Senior Woman's Team,
Girls 16.5 Grand Finalists,
Established Junior program (very competitive)
and 3 Senior Premierships.

Well done to all at Rutland Ave.

I watched the Grand Final and was impressed with the pressure from both sides, still not sure how #3 M. Corbett didn't make the Best Players. This guy never stops, may have been down (skill wise) by his own high standards , but from where I was sitting he worked tirelessly inside the contests all day, took a huge battering and still was pushing the ball forward in the final moments. An excellent player at this level. #6 skinny tall defender was crucial in the last 1/4, good game from an unlikely type.

Congratulations in particular to Zed, great recruiting over the journey and you got the prize, young fella - Well deserved.
