Re: Ch9 AFL Division 4 - 2015

The SAAFL has set a very dangerous precedent.

Unless a club is hit with unforeseeable and extreme circumstances, it should not be allowed to (in the 'A' grades), more or less, choose its division.

It gives a club with poor management an opt out of the consequence of its poor management and encourages other clubs to run their clubs with a greater element of risk because they know, if they screw it up, the SAAFL will save them.

What a cock up.

Sounds like you need to adopt a grading system like in social basketball. Play a few games and then allocate into divisions. Would solve all your issues. Don't need to. Make a GF, go up. Finish bottom two, go down. Simple. Or, it should be.

Re: HFL Central Division

As an outsider, I really do think the HFL have set themselves up here. They promote clubs based solely on A-Grade performance, then relegate based on the success of the whole club. Until they work out which one they value more, and promote and relegate on the same criteria, then they'll continue have issues with this in the future.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 4 - 2015

I would like to think I have a decent grasp of this, having been part of a team for 11 seasons that has fluctuated solely between Division 3 and 4. I can say the gap is very significant. Talent alone can get you through some games in Div 4, it just doesn't happen in Div 3. You are made to work your ass off for every win (Kilburn 2014 aside). We have had a side with quality that has not differentiated that much between 2005-2014, in that period we have not made the finals in Div 3, but not missed the finals in Div 4.

Any team who finished mid-table in Div 4 would be mad to go up IMO. Plympton won a Div 4 GF by 20-goals in 2013 and couldn't make the finals in Div 3, any side who finished 3-4 places lower in Div 4 would struggle to win a game in Div 3.

Marbles is off his rocker.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 4 - 2015

Your self injection of excellence is always a pleasure to witness

The div 4 contenders for the 2015 div 4 flag, are all refusing to go to div 3 cos they want an easy year and play finals without their players having to do any form of high octane gut running 4-quarter football

Therefore now the saafl or whoever are asking the non-contenders of div 4, to take up a year in div 3. So you tell me who would benefit the most

Or is everyone a big chicken shit and no one can handle the extreme quality of football in div 3

Wow its soooo scary up there, cant do that we are all weaklings, compared to div 3 clubs

Omg peoples raise the bar a bit. Get your football club to the top of the tree and deal with the requirements of being there

Mate we've been up there as a Div 3 club for three years, we never asked to come down, we never bitched, or whined, or moaned, as it it was the division we were supposed to be in. We competed as best we could during that time, just like every club we played. We enjoyed the challenge of Division 3, as we had in the two previous spells our club had there. I will reiterate, we took the option approximately eight years ago to say in Div 3 after being relegated, when Edwardstown defected to the SFL. I played through that season where we won one game, for the second season in a row, where were beaten by 20+ goals eight times, and finished the season in a worse cultural and financial state than 12 months prior. We're not making the same mistake twice. This year again, we won one game, one, against Kilburn, plus a forfeit. Not beating any of the top eight sides in the other sixteen rounds meant we were relegated and are now a Division 4 club, until we either finish bottom two or top two again. It's not rocket science.

The fact that you know who the top sides in Division 4 are going to be in the December prior to the season, means you should be a quality punter.

I will take offence when my club is called chicken shit, as this situation is not our responsibility/fault/problem. It's Salisbury West's fault, and they need to lie in the bed they have made for themselves, as Kilburn did in 2014. Eastern Park, Salisbury, Pooraka, Hope Valley, Hectorville, Kenilworth, Glenunga, North Haven and Westminster OS shouldn't have to potentially cause their club damage because another club has had issues with their own affairs.

Re: Cruises

Just got home from a 12 day cruise around NZ with Sun Princess.

Visited Dunedin, Akaroa, Christchurch, Napier, Wellington, Tauranga, Auckland, Bay of Islands.

Was awesome.

Wellington was the nicest town/city I've ever visited anywhere. Admittedly if weather wasn't as nice as it was, I may have had an alternative view of this city known for its wind.

Entertainment and hospitality aboard ship were very good.

Cruises are a great way to see NZ!
Agree with all of this mate, especially Wellington. Christchurch was an amazing place too, genuinely looked like a warzone still after the earthquakes but the spots of colour and innovation gave it some hope.

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews

Inglewood Inn last night, always a top feed. Bit pricy for a pub but worth it. Just had a chicken parmy, but quality bit of bird, thick and juicy. Missus went the Pear, Prosciutto and Blue Cheese Pizza and loved it. Sat out on the deck looking over the garden and the hills, beautiful. $60 for both meals, a pint of James Squire and a coke.

Vies with the Earl of Leicester as my favourite pub.

Re: Trial Matches

http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2015-02-16/trial-games-finalised-for-league-academy-teams

PORT Adelaide won't rest over its Easter weekend SANFL bye, instead fixturing a trial game against amateur league goliath Goodwood Saints. Allocated the bye in the opening round over the Easter weekend, the Magpies will instead play the Saints on Easter Thursday 2 April under lights at Thebarton Oval. The Academy will play division two side Prince Alfred Old Collegians in the curtain-raiser, and will also play Tea Tree Gully at 9:15am before Port Adelaide's trial game against the Crows at Alberton on March 21.

When was the last time an amateur aussie rules team played against a SANF...sorry, AFL team?

When was the last time a professional team referred to its ammo opponents as a "goliath" and a "powerhouse"?

An internal trial would have more benefit than flogging Ammos! Still let's hope the Ammos go the knuckle!

Goodwood are as professional a club you will find outside the SANFL. They will not go the knuckle.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 4 - 2015

It's not just the playing side of things, clubs should organically grow to that level so that every aspect of the club is building not just a playing list of 21 blokes.

The team that finished 3rd last year could handle it but looks like Eastern Park have lost a few players so I understand their reasons.

I can tell you our reasons. We've had three seasons in Div 3 of seven wins, five wins, and last year two against Kilburn, which in any other Div 3 season would've been a winless season. We have 0 clearances in so far, so the improvements needed to go from 0 genuine Division 3 wins to the 5-6 needed to stave off relegation aren't quite visible at the minute. We played in a GF in 2011, went up and had a crack, have dropped off each year as guys have retired/left, and are now back at a Division 4 level, which is our rightful level as it stands. Guys who played through all three of these losing seaons (myself included) are excited about the prospect of being more competitive this year and spirits are higher. As horrible as it is, our bar takings across the three years in Div 3 dropped each year as the wins dropped off. That's reality. We need to be in a competition where we can be competitive so we can survive on-and-off field. We also had a crack at this opportunity nearly 10 years ago when Edwardstown left, it didn't work, we won one game and were relegated.

We are not risking a sustainable on and off-field future for our footy club because another club couldn't sort their own out.

Re: u18's

Does anybody no what day there club have nominated there u18's for Sat or Sun, just interested to see what clubs think is a better day for the 18's. I would have thought most clubs play some u18's in the seniors on Sat then play some games on a Sun at u18's level.

Sundays. Far more convenient for us.

FWIW the new eligibility rules:

12. UNDER 18 DIVISIONS
12.2. Under 18 team(s) shall be restricted to include only players whom are under 19 years of age prior to the first (1st) day of July in the year in which they are applying to play in The League.
12.3. Should a player who turns 18 years of age prior to the first (1st) day of January in the year which they are playing and play senior football at any level in the current year they are disqualified from playing Under 18 football for the remainder of that season.

So anyone who turned 18 in 2014 and plays senior football this year will no longer be eligible for under 18s (not unreasonable, but may put some sides under numbers stress).

If these rules were in placed last year, that would of ruled out half of our premiership winning side.

You won an Under 18 flag with half an Under 19 side. That shouldn't have been allowed to happen anyway. Not saying it was your fault, you were working within the rules set, but it shouldn't have been able to occur in the first place.

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews

Schnit House, Rundle St.

$23.50 for a parmy and $19.90 for a chicken schnit with mushroom sauce. Came out within 15 mins. On the expensive side but was worth it, when you claim to specialise in schnit and charge $20+ they'd wanna be good and to their credit, they were. Nice crumb, juicy chicken, big size. Chips were well seasoned and not under the schnit! Obligatory, waste of time salad on the side in the bowl.

No Ent Book voucher or anything but if you're craving a good schnit it is well worth the trip into the city.

The bloke on the table next to me had a crack at the Man v Schnit Challenge. Looked like 3.5 schnits, with chips and a 1L stein of beer. Had to get it all down within 45 mins. Didn't give him much of a hope, and looked spent about 2/3 of the way through, but pushed on and got it done in 36 mins, 38 secs. Hats off to you sir.

We lost to a Div 6 side last year and then played Div 4 finals. Going by your theory we should have finished near the bottom in 2014

Havens lost to Greenacres so we're all in strife.

Our performance two weeks ago has suggested we're heading for relegation apparently. I don't know if anyone in Div 4 is actually winning a game this year, or if we're all going to play out 0-0 draws.

I wonder if Sydney panicked this much after losing to GWS early last season.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 4 - 2015

Salisburys scorelines look really impressive thus far, I haven't looked at ins and outs, has the team changed much from last year Pag ?

I find this pretty staggering. Last couple of years Salisbury have been noncompetitive in Div 3, losing a lot of games by 100+ and now they have had 2 solid wins against sides that have won their other game. With Salisbury being a club that doesn't really have a high turn over of players, what's the go here? Is it just reflective of the gap between Div 3 & 4?

We find it staggering too. We picked ourselves for the spoon just like everyone else on here did.

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews

The House of the Red Dragon at Smithfield has always reigned supreme for my Chinese fix.

I tend to go twice a month and usually buy enough for the 3 of us to have a couple of days worth of meals.
The kids love their massive spring rolls that are $3.50 each and full of meat and veg in some awesome pastry and then one loves the honey chicken while the other is pretty keen on the sweet and sour pork so they are usually a given, well priced and decent servings.
Their Special Fried Rice is a meal on it's own with huge pieces of various meats through it and well priced so an Extra Large serving is always on our list.
I tend to sway between the Garlic King Prawns or Satay Steak (Their Sizzling Steak is also amazing).
All up, feeding the 3 of us a couple of times for generally under $70 rates highly with me, especially when we eat so much that we don't even feel like dessert. I've never left there disappointed.
9.5/10 for quality and price.

Agreed. Best Chinese I've ever had.

It's a northern suburbs institution along with Bonanza Pizza!
For the Playford Council ratepayers at least. Those of us who grew up in Salisbury will say the Emperor's Crown opposite the Salisbury Cinema complex is the best. ;)

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 7 - 2015

1. regarding the red card, the umpire should have told the officials what the go is ie can he be replaced or not. my understanding is can't be replaced for ten minutes.

2. the extra man on the field. whether it's d7 or d1 the coaching staff have to be aware were your players are. MP certainly at fault here.

3. Singing the song on the oval is a disgrace and my opinion on that will never change. Only winning a flag is when it's a acceptable imo

4. reserve umpires are generally bad, i've only seen a handful of good ones. seen some who flat out refuse to give the opposition free kicks...

5. can't believe this has gone for 3 pages

I thought the coach was suspended until 2017 (or maybe I read wrong) ? If that's not a big sanction, I"m not sure what is!
..and so he should given his record.

I want to know what club imposed sanctions and penalities though - suspending the coach for 18 months or what ever it is doesnt cut it..

The coach now has no affiliation with the Salisbury Football Club, and will not in the future, league suspension or no league suspension.

Our Under 18s did not play yesterday, and will not play again next week. The club has until the long weekend to find a suitable coach, if it decides it wants to continue on with the team.

Just because you want to know what the league has put in place, doesn't mean I'm going to make it public for you. We are working under conditions with the league, however our tribunal record in the seniors over the past five years has been good, it has been the Under 18 grade that the club has had issues with, which may have helped.

I'd like to think our club has a pretty good reputation within the league, and we're making sure a blemish from a coach doesn't tarnish that going forward.

I can't/won't really comment too much more.

These balls didnt have the elevation required to make it normal. Which i thought was obvious...

I've encountered this while umpiring, as soon as I got given the ball I said to the official that the ball didn't seem right, he laughed at me and shook his head as he walked off.
There were shitloads of behinds kicked and plenty of turnovers by foot, the players kept wanting to examine the ball but there appeared to be nothing wrong with it, it played plenty of tricks.

Beef, swiss cheese, mushrooms, tomato, rocket, aioli with added bacon and a serve of fries.

Beef was perhaps a touch over for the way I like it but a good size and still juicy, bacon + mushroom is my favourite burger combination and didn't disappoint, opted for the wholegrain bun which was a good call. Re: Where to from here ?

See its completely different in the northern suburbs, i have worked in community centres now for 12 years and nearly every kid i speak to has heard of Centrals, in most cases it the sheer fact of the parents not willing to take, not being able to afford that stops these kids from getting to the home games.
If you walk around the Elizabeth centre for anymore than 2 hours tomorrow and i will absolutely guarantee you will at least see 5-10 people wearing some sort of centrals merchandise.

Wouldn't hurt that for many of the last 15 years that Dad and or Mum or both have been coming home once a year full of Woodstock celebrating another Doggies premiership.

"What shall we get Dad for Xmas?", "I know, the GF DVD".....
I'm sure Centrals domination during the last decade hasn't hurt their footprint in the north, however they were firmly visible prior to the golden generation.

I was a young kid in the north the 90s, prior to the domination, and Centrals were just as big a deal as the Crows at that time. The red, blue and white was painted in the middle of the Holden roundabout, Elizabeth Oval was always visible next to the AquaDome, and we kicked Centrals footys at school.

400gm chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce ($18 + $3 for sauce).

10-15 mins from order to table.

Very good value for the size of the bird, as well as getting a very generous serving of creamy mushroom sauce in a jug, instead of gravy with a couple of token mushrooms you can get elsewhere. Chips were the under the schnitty which is a bit of a no-no but the seasoning on them was amazing and worth ordering a bowl on their own for.

Love the place.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 4 - 2015

I can see both sides. Play on would've been my call to be honest.

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews

Ha, I'll actually be there tonight. Filling in for our delegate.

We'll be at the pub beforehand, if you're keen for some alcohol to get you through 8)

With the amount of time I've spent on here this morning, I don't like my chances of getting away from work before 6PM. However I'm up for getting either Nordburger or Burger Foundry (given their close proximity to The Barton) in a post-meeting feeding frenzy.
I had Foundry before the last one, amazing.

Re: The Penultimate Round - Round 22

I thought home fans go to watch their team play, not watch the opposition.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 4 - 2015

No one cares about the games this week, all anyone wants to know has the great Pag got his spech written for tomorrow night? Cant average 35+ uncontested possesions a game and not get the votes. Will his votes tally be higher than his tackle count for the year?
You are a flog of epic proportions.
Well have you got your speech written out or not? 8)
Don't need to, my (very safe) money is on the Jolly/Rowe quinella.
