Re: Things that you rate!

Junior G getting his highest score so far in his early cricket career (18).

He hit the ball really well (3 x 4s), ran aggressively and was disciplined defensively (until he went the attempted slap on a full one on off).

He has put in an extra net session a week minimum since the start of the season, great to see some reward.

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go

Blew the cobwebs out at McCracken last Sunday. Cracking day, course in solid nick with swift greens.

Didnt expect much, and duly delivered 22 points. Consistent crap with 12 on the front and 10 on the back.

Driving actually pretty good, putting improved as I got the pace right.

Irons were fair dinkum woeful. Couple of decent 5 irons and a couple of nice lobs, but on the whole could not get them up in the air. Mucked around with stance but horribly inconsistent swings. Time for some range action me thinks.

Well much better. Hit 35 points to get done on a countback in our comp. I implemented a throwaway tip from Sergio that I watched on Saturday in my game and it fricken worked. Next stop Lake Albert Ambrose in 2 weeks. Much more confident in the ball striking.

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go

Lake Albert Ambrose this Sunday. Looks like it'll be a warm one!

Weather was great and course as good as I've seen it.

Gross winners hit 15 under including 11 birdies in a row....glad we didnt waste our time playing good golf.

Was more hungover than usual, but none of us could hit a green or hole a putt.

Hit a nett 76 (Stroke round) at the Pat last Sunday to back that up, including a blow out 8 on the 17th (tee shot in water). Nowhere near our winners on 65 though.

Just need to play more, threatening to have a good round.

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go

Back to earth second up on Sunday down at Willunga. Hit it atrociously on the front 9 for a 54. Lost 3 balls, chipped out of trees on 4 of the holes, chunked a wedge into the water on both the 2nd and 4th.

Came home in 41 but the damage was done. Skies opened up on the last just to rub it in.

Next one at Lady Bay so hoping to have the back 9 form follow.

Re: Hawthorn

Hawhtorn for the spoon next year. It will be absolutely golden. They've just Northed themselves. I suppose they think they will pick up another Roughead and Franklin in the draft in the next two years and then a decade later the AFL will bring in two new teams so they can pick up easy flags after the other contenders are cooked and the next up and coming teams miss out on the draft picks. :D

What a time to be alive Jasper!

Played the Pat yesterday, course held up well considering the barrage on Saturday. Few limbs lost and some trees straight out blown over but drained pretty well.

38 point not too shabby, came home with 22. Lost 3 balls on the front 9 FFS.

Re: Soooooo, how's this weather?

We had 2 inch high water all around the house as the drains couldnt cope, had to shut off the spa isolator and sweep water for about 45 mins solid. Didnt get in the house thankfully.

Was a deadset mini tornado here (Morphett Vale)- rain came in from all 3 sides of the verandah.

At least we only had 3 mini power outages, nothing significant. Hear Craigburn may not have power til the 19th!!

This weather can **** right off.

Re: Things that you rate!

The young fella batting as well as he ever has yesterday morning.

First year under 14 (3 months too old for 12s) coming in at 11 with the side 7 for 70 or there abouts after 28 overs (out of 45) chasing 213.

Got dropped early, but managed to keep his head down and retire twice whilst letting the bigger/better hitters face the majority of the balls. Reckon he was out in the centre well over an hour (I'd suggest 15 mins would have been his longest stay beforehand). He was part of the last 2 that needed 22 off the last 3 overs and 11 off the last- and fell an agonizing 3 runs short.

14* off 36 balls doesnt sound great but for a quiet kid who usually lacks a bit of game awareness it was amazing. Came off after the last ball disappointed and drenched, but at least knowing he can play to the level.

Re: NFL Season 2022-23

OK NFL Experts, who wins the SB? I had a reasonable crack at a Scorchers/Chiefs Multi a few weeks back at $13, from what I saw in the conference games Philly looked really sharp and my mug eye seems to think they will get over the Chiefs, I can (and will) back the Eagles to ensure a profit, but Im debating by how much. Gimme your thoughts!

I'm Chiefs all the way but punting wise I'd maybe hit Philly H2H for the $1.80. Chiefs have a lot of sore bodies, looks like Hardman is already out.

As Brod mentioned Philly havent played full strength sides but you can only beat who you play.

End of summer kids sport dinner coming up this Sat night at Charlie’s Diner, Brighton Hotel - gulp.
I despise all you can eat and at $40 per adult & $20 per kid I’m dreading this already. Has anyone been here recently that can allay my fears? Is it self serve again post covid or do they serve you when you go up?

Ha ha its self serve again (was served during Covid).

Wasnt terrible but it is a smorgasbord, so you know what to expect.

They had banana ice cream when I went which gained them a mark or 2.

Quick tip, order at the bar and wait for your drink, they were 'hopeless' finding our table.

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go

Played at Oakbank on Sunday in the light but constant drizzle.

Course in good nick, greens very nice. A bit of GUR in places and some damp spots (maybe sprionklers left on rather than rain?).

For the price an excellent deal. $25 for 18 holes (2 x 9) is great value.

First time round was on fire, hit 23 points including a 2 for 5 on the hardest hole after somehow holing a 6 iron from 160. First Eagle Ive had in at least a decade.

Poor second 9 only getting 14 points and getting nutted on countback.

Being first hit back since an Ambrose in Feb I was happy with most of my game, a few wide drives but didnt get into huge amounts of trouble.

Echunga today, rocked up at 8am to a full carpark and a 3 degree setting.

Deadset average golf, hit 32 points including 18 on the back. Driving ordinary, irons ordinary and putting ordinary. Chipping good, probably saved my bacon.

Course in good nick, pretty fast greens. Doesnt need any more rain- if we have a winter anywhere near the last 2 avoid.
