Re: Abbott/Liberal Govt Watch

LOL, Labor using the Abbott wrecking ball playbook by attempting to suspend standing orders for a vote of no confidence in the PM, something Abbott did 5 billion times in opposition.

Can't tell you, secret ballot, unless I'm desperately clinging to any hope to keep my job as PM, then I'll arrange for the secret vote tallies to be leaked to further damage the party.

Re: Glenelg Senior Coach 2014/15

Kevin Sheedy ad Mark Thompson are being sounded out as Senior Assistants ... stay tuned.

Kerls was approached but the nursing home wouldn't release him for the times requested by the club.

Studley and Freedie were also approached as a joint Senior Assistants but unfortunately talks broken down in the Family Court.

There is still hope for Hodgey, but it's doubtful Mass's deportation order will be processed in time.

Rest assured that every effort is being made to get the right outcome for the club, and thank you for your interest.

Re: submarines

Perhaps Labor could start with ...

My question is to the Defence Minister. Could the Minister advise the House what a competitive evaluation process for the submarines will entail.

My question is the the Defence Minister. Does the Minister still have confidence in the leadership of Tony Abbott and julia Gillard.

My question is the the Attorney-General. Could the Minister advise the House of the new metadata requirements that Internet Service Providers will need to comply with.

Point of Order Madame Speaker. The question was asked of the Attorney-General, not the Communications Minister.

Re: Godden Steps Down as State Coach / Cornes Appointed

Well if Studley leads the state to victory I can see the inept Glenelg Board replacing Lokan with him mid season!

So what I'm hearing here is the Wagons could already be circling for a STUDLEY comeback to the Glenelg coaching box interesting........

OK, not a dud but a huge under achiever. To me he epitomises what's been wrong with WIndies cricket for years. Talent to burn, but wastes it by not having a heart or giving a rats in 80% of his performances. How the diamond studs look is seemingly more important.

Anyway, back to the match, I thought Steve Bucknor was back on deck after that wide decision.

Just imagine for a moment if Hicks was held in custody in the same manner as Guantanamo Bay by another country, say Russia, Egypt, Iran, Syria or North Korea for example.

Would the reaction of the Australian government and public have been the same?

Re: Mens ICC Cricket World Cup, India 2023.

Do the umpires actually have a stop watch on the players between wickets? I never thought they did

Probably the 3rd ump, if not, bet they do now

Was thinking about this, what about in England when you have to walk through the long room, down stairs out onto the ground to the middle, surely that would take close to 2 minutes itself, let alone taking guard and being ready to face a ball

It’s usually 3 mins, but 2 mins for the World Cup. Good point though, I guess you also have to take into account any heckling you receive whilst walking through the Long Room. Perhaps allow 5 mins for non Anglo-Saxons at Lords.

Re: I need to know....

My 2c so take with a large grain of salt.

It’s a flawed and outdated eco-system, and that article summarises some of the issues quite well.

The only very blunt instrument the Reserve Bank uses is interest rates, but it generally punishes the ones that are not causing the problem.

The way inflation is calculated is flawed when taken into the context of what influence interest rates has on those ‘basket of goods’. Also, this eco-system assumes that demand is always the issue so hiking interest rates will suppress demand, therefore reducing consumption and inflation, but the latest cycle of interest rate hikes have predominantly been driven by a lack of supply (the downstream effect of the Covid years together with the Russian invasion of Ukraine), so a totally inappropriate response.

For example, official interest rates have little to do with the pricing of fossil fuels (world supply and demand, politics, wars, etc do). If consumption decreases because people are struggling to fill the tank, then this will not help reduce the price of fuel, hence have no effect in reducing inflation (as fuel pricing is in the calculation of inflation).

The RBA is locked into a cycle of ‘let’s be seen to be doing something’ so keeps hiking rates, as if it will somehow fix the inflation issue.

It’s a difficult and complex issue, but the very simple and dumb set of tools the RBA uses isn’t the answer, and generally the low and middle class suffer exponentially more for something they didn’t cause or can fix by their consumption habits, whilst large businesses and those that are cashed up with little debt (for example retired baby boomers) keep spending regardless, which increases pressure on inflation.

It will sort itself out eventually, but it could occur without the unnecessary pain created by the RBA.

OK, I’m done.

Re: AFL 2024

Having an Opening Round before Round 1 is easily and by miles the stupidest thing I've ever heard of in this competition.
And that doesn't even take into account the huge advantage 8 teams will get with a competitive game under their belt going into "Round 1".

The stupidest thing I've ever seen in the competition is the introduction of four umpires. That will continue to be the stupidest thing about the competition until they introduce five.

regards,

REB

Huh im confused.

So are they playing for points???

Is round 1 just split over 2 weeks essentially and one is called opening round and the other round 1??

No.

Opening round is 4 games. Round 1 is 8 games.

The 8 sides who played in opening round get a bye between rounds 2 and 6 ( I think ).

Faark me Boon, next you’ll tell us that SE fishermen don’t know a cray from a lobster.

Re: I need to know....

Unfortunately Hamas have somewhat succeeded already.

Of course they knew that Israel would hit them with everything, and they have. Hamas are so depraved that they have no issue with thousands of Palestinian deaths in Gaza to further their warped cause.

On October 7, most people were 100% with Israel as news of the atrocities committed by Hamas surfaced, but knowing that Israel would flatten Gaza, sympathy for the Palestinians has increased significantly since.

Hamas are hoping that their actions have cemented opposition to the Israelis, firstly in the surrounding arabs states, and as a bonus, around the world. They hope that this will result in further uprising against the Israelis.

Palestinians are faarked either way. They can’t denounce Hamas as they hold power in Gaza, but Hamas don’t give a faark for their welfare. Basically no-one else will come to their assistance, so Israel will do as they please in Gaza.

Israel don’t have a plan after they flatten Gaza, so we’re all back to where we started.

It’s completely faarked with no tangible solution in sight.
