Not much news to report in Division VI as this league has the most predictable outcomes from week to week. Brendamage is back in the top eight at the expense of Leisa's Lovelies who were well beaten by top four contender Loose Husseys. The power is back on this week as PowerFailure snapped a two match losing streak as they proved too strong for the Saints.

The Isotopes kept on keeping on (trust Rolf Harris, sure can't) after they won a high quality match against thekickingkangaroos who are starting to lose contact with the top eight teams now. Top team RustyCage got the job done in another top match as Failed Creation came up short. In the bottom 'half' of the ladder IswiTch and Play4RedTins both had wins with the Tins getting their second win on the trot. However, wins against the bottom three sides are not the kind of wins that will make you a finals hope this year. I reckon 10, maybe 11 wins are needed to make the top eight so you'd like to be ahead of the count at this stage.

Re: R9 - West v Norwood Post Match

Crowd was pretty good, with Norwood supporters out in force, again...

Official number from the SANFL was 3,101

Neil Cross, playing 'crowd lotto' as we like to on RPH, had a stab at the crowd figure and guessed 3,100 !!!

Not a bad effort and, along with the last quarter goals, was one on my highlights from an otherwise pretty dull night !!!

Forgot to count himself.

Re: Geelong 2014

I normally can't stand the Fox Footy panel apart from Sandy and McLure but I thought their point about Geelong on Friday night was valid. It will be interesting to see how Scott coaches from here as he has been on auto pilot from the very start of his tenure.

I think his brother @ North is under achieving dramatically and @ times sounds like a clown after matches and Norths inconsistency with such a talented list shouldn't be tolerated.

Scott will always be judged by how he manages the rebuild. His approach at the start was very wise, don't try and fix what isn't broken. Now he has to prove that he can be a teaching coach. His continual 'we won't look back at that' comment after losses is worrying. If you don't learn from your mistakes you are doomed to repeat them as is being shown in our matches with Fremantle.

We still have some good cattle but when Kelly continues to provide opposition goals and Johnson continues to pick and choose when to go then both should be given spells in the Magoos. The gameplan needs some slight modification because we no longer have the biggest bodies in the engine room. When we did the 'Geelong Highway' for want of a better term remained a viable option.

Right now we have Caddy and Christensen out of action so that leaves it to Kelly and Selwood to do the grunt work that used to be done by about five blokes. Guthrie and Stokes have stepped up but the Johnson midfield experiment is not working and we are struggling to kick goals. Motlop has helped inject some zip but Varcoe, while he provides the said zip does not provide any intensity at the contest.

The intensity at the contest should be NON NEGIOTABLE, especially when we are attempting to play down the corridor. We were nearly beaten by a team of sheep dogs who specialise in Bruise free football and we allowed that by being bruise free ourselves. My faith in Scott was severely shaken when we came out flat as dog shit after being embarrassingly humiliated by the Swans. We had no 'short break' or 'on the road again' excuses this time, we were just plain shit.

If it wasnt' for George Horlin Smith, Tommy Hawkins, Matty Stokes, Cameron Guthrie and the Maggots, we would have been rolled and Carlton are horseshit. Unfortunately for us, we aren't that much better......at the moment. Over to you Scotty.

Re: 2014 - Ken Mcgregor medal Top 10 AFL spud award

I'll say it before, and I'll say it again: Tyrone Vickery is a lock for the Kenny B & F, and as soon as he is eligible, will go straight into the Kenny Hall of Fame with 'Legend' status.

This guy makes Richmond look worse than they are, and they're pretty shithouse right now.

How about this for last week's centre line.

FOLEY - EDWARDS - PETTERD

I don't think I've ever seen a worse one at AFL level.

Re: Crows 2014

Hats off to Dangerfield. The guy has been smashed from pillar to post all season and he still keeps on chugging away. He is clearly playing sore and is running on sheer guts alone. He either needs to learn how to protect himself better in the play or have periodic spells or both. The risk is a shortened career in the mode of Geelong's Max Rooke.

It would also help if got some protection from his team mates when he is being tagged. I N THE GAME AT Geelong Guthrie smashed him all day long without the slightest protest from the Crows. The guy was moving like Steve Johnson today and he badly needs a chop out.

Re: Round 14 - live scores, results & jibber-jabbering.

Back to the draw board for Wayne Campbell. This is the worst officiated season I've ever seen. As soon as the Umpires are once again directed to officiate, instead of decorate the game, the sooner the umpiring will improve. Right now umpires are being directed to "keep the ball moving" . So that means you can throw the ball, go head first into your opponent...heaven forbid that the umpires actually remember the rules.

In the meantime, we get Rugby Union because umpires wait an age for the ball to come out of the pack. Here's a tip - have a ball up!

The season started really well for the umpires but right now on form the 19th team would be in 19th place on the ladder.

The top four have made a break for it after twelve rounds as they are now eight points clear of the pack. Sturt B and PowerFailure fell off the pace after suffering defeats with Sturt B in particular coming a cropper in a match that they probably should have won. The PowerFailure were beaten by the Raging Hooligans which is fair enough but Sturt B's winning run came to an abrupt end against Leisas Lovelies who are outside of the top eight even after this week's win.

Other teams who were outside of the eight last week who got up included Brendamage who are now back in the top eight and Izshi 18 and thekickingkangaroo. So with the top four looking pretty settled the last five rounds will be the time when eight sides play off for the last remaining four places in the Divvy VI finals.

At the foot of the ladder the MightyEags had their first win of the season as they rounded up the Cows which means that Mustangs are stone motherless and without a win so far this season. Strawb has had many seasons at the bottom of the Hogg and it's looking like 2014 can be added to his wall of shame.

Crows are a bottom 4 team.

But come on guys....

I don't miss reading the Crowvertiser every day and listening into the jabbering idiots on 5CrowCrow. However, I couldn't agree on your assessment on how good the Crows are. They aren't world beaters of course but bottom four?? Nah, mid table and very inconsistent. I reckon the Crows, Carlton and Geelong are all of a very similar level this season.

Look at Trigg. Look at Chapman. Look at the board in which members have no say. There's your problem. Paying the price for being excluded from early rounds of the draft. Less access to the draft for any reason equals mid table mediocrity. It aint Rocket Surgery folks.

In a high scoring week of SuperCoach not too many in this league went along for the ride with only the Topes racking up a big one with a Divvy VI record of 2513. The Evil penguins were the unlucky team to cop the massive percentage hit. Other sides have bigger immediate problems with Brendamage and Failed Creation falling out of the top eight after they both copped defeats on the weekend.

Failed Creation in particular can feel hard done by as 2198 would normally be enough to get you the win in this division but they were no match for the Raging Hooligans who are going from strength to strength at the moment. Brendmage also scored a reasonable score for this league but not enough to trouble another top four side in Loose Husseys who did the business.

The top four sides in this league appear to be locks to go up to Division V next season as teams such as PowerFailure and Failed Creation have gone off the boil a bit. Sturt B and iSwiTch appear to lack the conistency so perhaps the main threat could be thekickingkangaroo who has hopped into the top eight this week. They have a pretty good side in place and could do some damage if one or two tweaks are made to the roo's outfit.

This league is probably a twelve horse race at the moment although Leisas Lovelies are starting to struggle after copping an upset loss at the hands of Play4RedTins who got a good score for once. Once again, Strawb's Mustangs are holding up the rest and they look a good thing for the spoon with Thiele and Eags close challengers for the honour.

Re: Crows 2014

You really think Impey had the better of him?
Impey has a lot of talent and did well in the first half but got smashed when it counted.

Only Port fans like you think we are putting all the eggs in the Betts basket. We are relying on McKernan to take us to our next flag.

Betts goal from the boundary mid-last quarter was while Impey was off the field with a rotation. Betts first goal was a gimme from a Trengove brain fade.

Betts last goal was pretty much junk time.

"...Impey probably had the better of him for the bulk of the night...." . I'll stand by that.

If a small forward gets three or more your man has been flogged. If you are standing a small forward and he gets five kicks for four goals then you lose. What you are slagging off at Betts for is the very same thing you were defending Daneil Motlop for a decade ago. Betts has a fine record as a small forward and yeah they paid overs for him, but I'd suggest that his recruitment paid dividends yesterday.

It didn't seem to affect the big four who all managed to win again to increase the gap to a massive 12 points between fourth and fifth. Double chance settled. It will be very hard for any side outside of the big four to gain promotion into Division V you would think.

With Gazza out teams that did not have him in their lineup prospered such as Leisas Lovelies who got back on the winning list with a massive percentage booster over the Thiele Cows. Failed Creation overturned some indifferent recent form to defeat Sturt B team who looked a top four chance a couple of weeks over but that window of opportunity has now passed. Fellow mid-table challengers Brendamage and IswiTch suffered losses to top four opposition allowing the Lovelies to make some gains. The Lovelies are perhaps some chance of sneaking into the eight.

The big news in struggle street was Strawb's big victory in the annual grudge match against MightyEags but the Mustangs' 178 point victory wasn't enough to lift the stangs off the bottom of the ladder.

Three weeks to go till finals but promotion looks settled. Over to you, mid table teams.

Re: Port 2014 - Pre-Season/General Discussion

Never mind Sando solving the Port riddle, that was done in Alice Springs by Paul Roos. Port were on fire when they played the Demons but took a fair while to shake the persistent bastards off. Since then a few teams have tried the same tactic, including Adelaide. It will be interesting to see how Kinkley reacts in the coaches box.

Some reactions to the Bombers loss suggest that this game was lost at selection when they brought in smalls for bigs.

There was a change at the top and at the bottom of Division VI as a result of the weekend's SC matches. RustyCage has been top of the ladder since Round 3 but Isotopes have claimed the leadership of the comp back as the Cage was shut by the Loose Husseys in an 11 point thriller. The topes did it somewhat easier as they breezed by iSwiTch by over 400 points. The Raging Hooligans won by even more over Brendamage who along with iSwiTch are now going to find it hard to make the finals.

This is good news for thekickingkangaroo and Failed Creation as they both had comfortable wins over struggling teams. Both sides aren't home yet though as Leisas Lovelies unleashed a Lovelies season high to smash Andy out of the ballpark to remain a strong finals contender. Wins to Sturt B and PowerFailure means that both are now likely finalists.

Meanwhile, at the foot of the ladder the Mustangs improved their percentage by enough to climb off the bottom as they went down to the St Brays Saints while the Eags were flogged by the ruthless Joeys. Two weeks go to until finals with ten teams remaining in the hunt.

Re: Has Mick Malthouse lost the plot?

I reckon as recently as his last year at Collingwood he was still the best coach in the league. As for the game passing him by take a look at Carlton's list. At full strength they could go 7-10. Minus Waite, Henderson, Thomas and Kruezer they are a shocking team. Soft as butter with more sheep dogs than Footrot Flats. The goers in the team such as Robbo and Armfield are limited. Experienced players such as McLean are lucky to get a gig. Warnock is shite and Carazzo is done.

Too much falls to too few. Judd, Simpson and Walker are three players who look to be carrying more than they should. Mick didn't want Murphy as Captain and I think this point of view has been vindicated more often than not despite Murphy's best efforts. There have been very few positives...I belive Levi Casboult has come on a treat this year, Gibbs has shown he can win the hard football and young Menzel looks to be a real player.

The club made the wrong move getting Mick and seriously overestimated their list's ability to win the flag. Judging Malthouse by his Carlton stay is like judging Pagan from his. Mick has a history of bringing up ordinary teams to be contenders but Collingwood 2002 and Footscray 1985 would absolutley pump Carlton 2014.

Has he lost the plot? Probably. The job is harder than he thought it would be. The cull should have happened last summer, not this summer. Is he a shit coach...um....no way. He would have been gone long ago if he was. Is he second to none....well, I'd have a few ahead of MIck.

Re: Predictions - and discussion - in lead up to 2014 season

I called 5 weeks ago that Freo could go the rest of the year undefeated. Still stand by that.

Freo and Sydney have very strong claims and if Hawthorn are full tilt they are better than both these teams. These 3 are the only chance in my opinion.

Good call this but I reckon Hawthorn have got Freo covered. If we get a repeat of last year it's a repeat of last year's result. Freo will be hoping to run into Geelong rather than the Hawks.

Re: Has Mick Malthouse lost the plot?

Grand final day to me is up to the players. Only coaches I've seen in recent times that win a GF with their game plan are Blight and Clarkson. I like the coaches who are good enough to get their team there on the big day...

In 2009 the Cats were outplayed by St Kilda for the majority of the match and were behind on the scoreboard at lemon time. Bomber asked the players if they thought they had done enough to become a dual premiership player. James Kelly for one said it inspired him to find something extra in the last quarter. In 1989 Alan Jeanes famously asked Hawthorn players if they were prepared to pay the price for a premiership, and looking forward to a posisble day of regret for not paying the price when the opportunity arose to do so.

My point is that not all coaching is about Game plans, some of it is actually coaching..coming up with something to get the players finding something extra when required. I think Lyon in particular might be missing this small component..he is very much a 'team role' based kind of coach and that off the wall type of Blighty/Bomber/Jeansy moment could be just the trick.

The 16th found has finally come to and end (hate these split rounds!) and when the dust has settled there are nine teams still left in the Division VI premiership race. Isotopes lost top spot on the ladder after they were upstaged by RustyCage who have proven they are a legitimate premiership contender with a solid win over the former league leaders.

The rest of the top eight got the job done with the exception of Sturt B Team who were defeated by Brendamage who can't make the eight as other results this round went against them. Leisas Lovelies are the only side outside of the top eight to be still in contention after they racked up a massive percentage booster over Mighty Eags who scored one of the lowest scores of the year while the Lovelies cracked 2000. The Lovelies have it all to play for next week as they will play off in a spot for the finals against thekickingkangaroo. Failed Creation and Sturt B both have winnable matches in the last round and they should both get the job done.

The top four still look like the teams that are promotion candidates as there is a fair gap between them and the rest. Mighty Eags appears to have locked up the spoon this year. Footychick's first season has seen them collect five wins and they should make it six against Thiele in the last round but Thiele should be safe from spoon calculations due to their superior percentage.

Re: Dangerfield Ouch

He either has a very low tolerance to pain & discomfort or he's a hypochondriac who loves the attention. Tough? Not even in the same galax y as Joel Selwood.

Sanderson has been really heavily involved with both Selwood and Dangerfield, and said on Monday night that Dangerfield is the most courageous player he has ever seen or coached. It seems an interesting call really, hard to compare to previous generations (some there harder than a cats head) but I'm sure he has a pretty good idea of who belongs in what footy galaxy with these two.

Dangerfield will continue to get banged up until he learns an outside game. He spends more time inside than Selwood who has the ability to be a receiver also. Dangerfield needs to be a better disposal he is going to do that. Does he overplay the knocks? Hard to know, but I'd rather him busting his nut to win the ball and be a little over the top sore, than have him sit back and be second to the pill.

Yeah he's really going to say his current player isn't as tough as Selwood.

Re: Worst AFL media person..

Maguire is many things. What he is, at the root of it all is us. He is a supporter who made it. Whether he is the Collingwood President, The TV Host or the legal Guardian of Toovey's kids :) he is a passionate Collingwood supporter.

I had no problem with Ed on his show after the Crows loss. He appeared gutted because he was gutted. On the whole his Presidency has been good for the Pies but the coaching succession plan looks like it might have been a bad move by Ed. But then again, in three years it could be seen as a stroke of genius.

The final places in the top eight were decided with Leisa's Lovelies defeating thekickingkangaroo to take their top eight spot in the last round of the season. Sturt B Team defended their top eight place when they defeated iSwitCh so it's the end of the road for young Pierson in his first Hogg season.

Joker's view from the top lasted just the one week after they suffered a close loss to Rusty Cage who took their spot. These two sides will meet again next week with the winner earning automatic promotion to Division V next season in what should be a cracker. Isotopes and Loose Husseys have proven themselves to be far too good for this league and they will meet in the other Qualifying Final with again the prize being automatic promotion.

Power Failure will go up against Mrs REB in the Elimination Final next week and even though the Missus doesn't check her team all that often the Lovelies could prove to be too strong for the Power next week. The other knockout final is between Hogg newbie Failed Creation and Division V regular Sturt B who will be keen to win as well.

Should be a top finals series but the top four are the sides I'd be tipping to earn promotion.
