Re: 2019 Ladder Predictions

Everyone keen to rate Adelaide again. Sauce another year slower, ditto Walker and Betts, Brouch still a lemon. No way they go top four for mine.

regards,

REB

Wouldn't rule them out of top 4, given there seems to be little that separates the 8 these days, but I kinda see it the same as you mate .. Still a huge over-reliance on Jacobs and Talia

If the Crows make the top four next year I'll adopt an Adelaide Crows avatar for the 2019/20 summer. It won't happen.

Re: 2019 Elimination Final - Sturt v Norwood

Fluro maggots have an influence . Free kick to Baulderstone for a push then missed 2 holding the balls... goal to Barry
Shocker, everyone was looking to see if the mark dead in front would be paid.
Push in the back?
Couldn't see it on the replay either, maybe something missed by the naked eye and the replay?
There's at least one, just as mystifying decision on the way to the resulting Norwood goal.
Talk about a momentum killer.

100%, Sturt had all the running when that phantom push was paid. Would’ve put you within 3 points?
Two goal swing which threw everything back in Norwood’s favour.
I agree that whilst Norwood were better for longer, that doesn’t automatically give you the win though.

Don't worry Sparg. You'll only have to hear about it for the next forty years.

Re: The Ashes 2019

I'm fine with it, get the ball coming from a new angle, Starc wouldn't have allowed the Poms to put on an unbeaten 76 run 10th wicket partnership.
Probably, but I doubt we'd have rolled them for 67 in the first innings with him bowling.

I just hope his radar is on and they don't get on top of him early.

And maybe we don't give up 359 in the fourth with him bowling. Pattinson isn't taking wickets.

Grand Final

Killer Wombats 2562

Review

Blighty Teasdale won the minor premiership but it was the best team of the year who ended up winning the premiership as Ross' Magpie Mafia swooped on his first premiership win in the Hogg. The Mafia had a good year last season but they really upped their game this season and they proved very hard to defeat, particularly in the early rounds when the Magpies were unbeatable. The top four sides all looked good things to be promoted with JOBBY perhaps the main threat to them. Killer Wombats had a solid finals series as the Wombats and the Magpies had the edge over Blighty and The Dukes.

There were a few hard luck stories in the relegation fight as relegated Power Failure scored 8th in scoring but went down to Division IV. Meanwhile FootyLegends and ZedForce could consider themselves very fortunate not to be relegated this season. The Kiwi stopped winning weeks ago and the team that slipped late was CDFC1965. Always good to see the Doggies struggling LOL.

So in the end, the team that was on top nearly all year won the comp but this was a very competitive league with the rankings going up all the time. Blighty had his most consistent season as did The Dukes and JOBBY was successful at this level. Congratulations to Magpie Mafia, the 2019 Hogg Division III premiers. Well played Ross.

If any of my kids decided to follow Essendon they would’ve been on the orphanage doorstep that fast it wouldn’t be funny...

My eldest keeps telling me she likes the crows, then says i like the swans too... The in laws are in her ear. I keep ignoring her or laughing it off hoping to god it's just a phase... She loves Eddie Betts so the quicker he leaves the club the better

Russell Ebert can't help you here, leave him out of it.

Re: Geelong v West Coast

Is it okay if we wear our home guernsey and shorts this week?

Careful what you wish for.
The compromise arranged with Collingwood allows you to wear your home guernsey every game. You push this agenda and the AFL will have you wearing a completely different strip with alternative colour on your away games
What compromise is that, the one Eddie made up? Maybe they might force Collingwood to get an alternative strip....Been there done that

Geelong-Clash-2003.gif

and you want to wear that awful strip?

Might as well wear a soccer strip seeing as we don't try to score.

Re: The Ashes 2019

Having been to England this year I can say that the majority of English fans are cricket fans but there is a FLA element who are basically a bunch of ****. Don't worry I know we have plenty of our own but to the FLA element you can all eat a massive bag. This Ashes loss might not have happened if you didn't fire up Devereux with your endless moronic booing. Seriously, who boos a bloke who has been knocked out or scores a double ton?

These wankers called us cheats every single day with dumb as dog shit chants that even a One Nueron supporter couldn't forget. We tried to give it back but we were outnumbered as you would expect. Seriously...God save your Queen? As if we give a ****. Same old Aussies always cheating? Last time I checked it was actually legal to appeal if you think it's out. Funny thing is, these idiots walk past the gates with the biggest cheat of them all's name on them, good old WG. And the antics of Mike Atherton were also conveniently forgotton. Only English cheats are forgiven.

Couldn't happen to a nice mob. Comisserations though to the genuine English cricket fans who made us feel welcome. Banter was welcome, outright hositily is not. See you in Australia.

Re: The Ashes 2019

Harmison sounds bitter

“I don’t think you can forgive him,” Harmison told talkSPORT. “When you’re known as a cheat — and he is, I’m not going to sugar-coat it, the three guys cheated — that’s on your CV.

“You’re marked and you take it to your grave.

“Whatever Steve Smith does, he’ll always be remembered for what happened in South Africa.”

Harmison added that is “something he’s got to live with”.

“I can’t see anybody’s opinion changing on Smith, Bancroft, or Warner. Because of what they’ve done, they’ve tarnished the game,” he said.

Harmison you wanker. Ball tampering has been going on for decades. Say that shit to Sarfraz or Imran, to Atherton. ******* hypocrisy. The main difference is that our cheats were shit at it. The ICC were going to ban Smith for ONE MATCH. It was due to OUR reaction that they got a year's ban. Atherton got off scott free but that's ok to Harmison because Atherton is English. What a ****. All he will be remembered for is sooking it up away from home and not hitting the pitch with the first ball of an Ashes series. Harmison you wanker.

From afl.com.au
When asked if he would continue playing on the edge following the 17th charge of his career, Greene smiled and said: "I don't know, we'll wait and see what happens."
The question should be rephrased to, "Will you continue to play like a filthy, little grub?"

And be allowed to do so. Hawkins would have gotten six weeks.

Re: Geelong v West Coast

Along with Hawkins who will kick Geelongs goals???

Geelong, kicking goals, lol.

Exactly. People loving picking on Hawkins, they always have, but you try kicking a goal with Scott's game plan. It's diabolical. We 'move' the ball so slowly your coffee goes cold before it gets to inside 50, and that's if it gets there at all. We could have John Coleman, Tony Lockett and Gordon Coventry down there and we'd still struggle to kick a decent score. Meanwhile as we lose the contest the ball flips out the back and the opposition has all the space in the world to kick easy goals. This shit does not win finals. I've never been less enthuised by a finals series in my whole life. Scott has burnt careers and this year we have finished top but even the most optimistic Cat would have been reluctant to put any coin on us for the flag. The sooner Scott gets out of club the better.

Re: Danny Frawley RIP

I’m a survivor. 6 1/2 years down the track. No one had any idea what I was going through at the time - even the psychologist I was seeing. It was the most illogical logical decision fathomable. So distorted had my mindset become. Outwardly I was fully functioning. Internally anxiety and depression and shame at being in an emotionally abuse relationship overwhelmed me.

Often the terms cowardly & selfish are used. I can say that at the time it took all the bravery I could muster & misguidedly thought I was doing the best thing big my family.

Afterwards my life became a chorus of “I wish i knew” & “why didn’t you say anything” type comments. Ironically it opened up a lot of meaningful conversations with family and friends and created a new and lasting depth that can only come with openness and trust.

I spent a couple of weeks in psych hospital, discovered counselling is a lot more effective if you’re honest and vulnerable, & learnt reach out if I was struggling.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. I’m grateful everyday that I survived.

Speak up & don’t go it alone. RIP spud. I wish you’d realised how many people loved you & would have been there for you if you could have reached out one more time.

I was stunned when you told me. But after our mutual friend the words cowardly and selfish certainly weren't used. After our friend I did some reading and came to understand that final decision is only ever made when you have absolutely nothing left, you can't fight any more. So glad you stuck around.

Re: Geelong v West Coast

Geelong are going to romp this in.
Semi final weekend has this magical power to make people think just because a top 4 side loses first week of the finals they are shit all of a sudden.

West Coast will bitch-slap us. Scott has no clue. We will probably drop Dangerfield because it's windy and he will miss too many targets.

regards,

REB

I don't know about that mate, McGovern, Barrass, Shepperd, Hurn all hate it when they have time to set up behind the ball.

Ugh! ******* Scott. Before the bye it had looked like Geelong had analysed their weaknesses and strengths and had come up with a plan that appeared to work. We had a tough early draw and at 6-1 I was looking forward to the finals. I think it turned during the first quarter against Richmond before the bye. The Tigers put a heap of pressure on and it looked like 2018 all over again. The Tigers were severely undermanned and Geelong ended up having a pretty good win.

Then along comes the bye and we lose for the 19th time in 12 attempts. We learnt NOTHING. And it's just so common in the Scott era. There's just too much arrogance and ego involved to admit he and us might have gotten something wrong. We play our best defender in the ruck, we play a promising mid in the reserves week after week so we can give known failures like Scooter Selwood a game and we destroy whatever confidence our Ruckman might of had by dropping him and preventing him from stringing matches together. I don't expect a gold pass for Stanley but back him in FFS.

Along comes the final and it's the EXACT same shit we've been watching for eight years. We haven't been winning finals due to injured ruckman so Scott DROPS THE RUCKMAN. Ok Stanley isn't Grundy but he does have a reasonable record against him. I'm still fuming a week later over that call. At the start of the year I thought 'maybe I have been harsh on Scott' but sadly he has proven me right and he can FRO.

Re: The Ashes 2019

Unpopular opinion.

I like Mitch Marsh, he gets it, he knows how lucky he is, he gets that Australia bag the crap out of him, he knows he hasn't made the opportunities count.

What's he meant to do, say sorry selectors you've picked me but tbh I don't want to give it another crack.

I don't think he will ever make it at test level but if he did I would be extremely happy for the bloke. It takes a lot to stay committed and keep coming back.

I don't like the continual selection of Marsh but I want every guy who wears the Baggy Green to succeed so I'm glad he took four wickets last night. We really need him to step up and become the cricketer that Cricket Australia thinks he can be. Look how much difference Stokes has made for England. Arguably, we'd be four up if they didn't have him.

Re: AFL Finals - Week 3

I'm still kicking myself that Hawkins had his brain fade. Probably the difference between us winning and losing tonight.

I'd say it's the difference between losing and really losing, to be honest.

While I don't see us winning I don't see us getting blown away either. I'd rather lose by more trying to kick a score though than what we saw against the Pies, shutting up shop and getting done by ten points. Have a crack. I'm still not convinced Richmond are that good, just like all the teams in the league this year.

Re: Adelaide Crows 2019

Serious question, has there ever been more player trade requests for a single club than the Crows this year. Obviously im talking about under the current systems in place.

Another question. Are these guys redeemable in a new enviornment? Especially those that were around when Walsh was murdered. This situation is unprecedented in football. It will be interesting to see how the ex Crows go next season. Perhaps Don Pyke actually did a hell of a job.

Re: 2019 Silly Season

Well they played nearly all games in 2019 and didn't keep anyone out of the side. Ablett, in particular, was more than handy....except in the finals. If he plays like he did in the finals then he is wasting his and everone else's time.
Taylor will probably be in and out and will be handy in the magoos and a handy back up. So I'm not fussed either way.
I just hope we can get an earlier pick or 2 and pick up a couple of ready made youngsters and someone that can keep Blicavs out of the ruck...

Geelong play too many tall defenders. Taylor is superfolous to our needs, either him or Henderson. Ablett ran out of gas big time towards the end of the year and should not play outside of the G, Cat Park and with the odd game at Comic Book park. This combination isn't winning a flag. With the same coach and the same 'top up' mentality I believe it is more of the same (but with dimished returns) next season.

Naturally some happy clappers will suggest I'm being overly negative but I know what I've seen over the past eight years. We have shown a stubborn arrogance and overestimation of our list and it's cost us badly. Why we still don't have a ruckman 8 years after Ottens' retirement is complete mystery.

Re: General tv discussion thread - good, bad, axings etc etc

I'm a big fan of ignoring the hype over various series and then binge watching long after they have finished. So far watched all of Oz, Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and currently watching The Wire. Stream the lot and no ads or FTA bullshit. I'm a big HBO fan and have an eye out for a few other series that everyone has probably watched years ago. I didn't pay any attention to anyone so no spoilers either GEAR.

Anything that starts out good and jumps the shark I give a miss. I saw GoT 8 at the same time as everyone else and while it wasn't as good as earlier seasons i thought it was a little rushed rather than straight up bad. I've heard bad things about the way Dexter finishes up so I'm not keen to get into that one. I'm more of a true crime guy anyway.

REB

If you haven't already, also try:

Boardwalk Empire
Banshee
Peaky Blinders
The Shield
Luther
True Detective
Fargo

All quality shows

Watched all of Peaky Blinders and Boardwalk Empire since my earlier post and currently watching Vikings which is pretty full on. Thanks for the recommendations, they will keep me going until the real cricket starts. TV is awesome today, so much variety. Modern music might be shit but Modern TV is leaps and bounds ahead of what we had thirty to forty years ago.

Re: Vale Glen Rosser

I was wondering where this topic was. I was a bit young to remember Rosser the player but I remember him as Balme's right hand man when we overcame our Port bogey and captured a couple of flags in the eighties. Of course, he did so much more. RIP Glen Rosser, a Red and Blue blooded champion.

Re: Trans Tasman Trophy

The selectors have a reluctance to play Starc and Pattinson in the same team if Hazelwood isn't there. Starc was pretty economical in Perth, but Melbourne will be different. They might even consider dropping a batsman (probably Head) and playing 4 quicks.

Dropping a batsman to include a defensive bowler in Siddle is absolute horseshit. Ian Chappell shits me to tears but one good point was 'do what the opposition would like least'. If you are a Kiwi who would you rather face, Pattinson or Siddle? In England the English commentators were surprised about Siddle's inclusion with Geoff Boycott summing it up nicely by saying (insert Yorkshire accent) 'Ah wouldn't mind facing im, even today'. Siddle was very good in his day and remains a whole hearted cricketer but I don't see the threat at test level. Pattinson got dropped for being a dickhead and would be chomping at the bit on his home deck to prove everyone wrong. That was the obvious selection. I think our current national team at times is guilty of overthinking things and it has cost us tests in the past.

Re: Hogg Division II 2020

Magpie Mafia is on the lam and gone up to Division I after a Divvy I side retired. The replacement part is called JOBBY THE GOAT and he has also called himself JOBBYS ELITE. Although he hasn't actually won anything, he will tell you just how good he is and once again he gets his chance to show it. Imagine a Grand Final between JOBBY and Daisy? They'd both lose LOL. JOBBY starts off as the number three seed in this league and all jokes aside they already look one of the teams to beat in this division.

Re: Hogg Shield Pre-Season 2020 - Hogg deadline Thu March 5

Some slack bastards aren't exactly stampeding towards the gate this year. 95 coaches have now signed up which means we are still waiting on thirteen teams to sign up or quit this year. Don't tell me you are going to sign up...just do it folks. If you don't have time to sign up how the hell are you going to find the time to play the game? :?

This year's deadline will be like the Red Wedding there will be no mercy come March 6. It's not often I've got two premier league teams that haven't signed up this close to the deadline.

Re: Hogg Shield Pre-Season 2020 - Hogg deadline Thu March 5

Hey Rik E Boy , is it too late to get involved for this season?

PM me your score and team name from last season. New teams can't go any higher than Division IV. To find your score from last year go to My team - History - 2019. You'll be either IV, V or LRO depending on numbers. If you don't get in this year take a tip and put your hand up before the deadline. Plenty of blokes missing though so you are still a good chance of getting a guernsey. PM me.

Re: Hogg Division I 2020

Premier League side Buddy Franklin didn't make the deadline so the former number one seed Roosters has been promoted to Premier League. Taking the chooks' place is DAISYS DUDS, yep, that guy that reckons that most of you are shit. So make sure you all give him a nice warm James Sicily welcome ha ha. daysofourlives has been a consistent scorer for years in Divvy II without managing to seal the deal in August so he is no pushover. The DUDS haven't joined the league as yet but my Straycat Strut team won't miss being beaten up by the DUDS this year. Duds they aint.

HOGG DIVISION I 2020

1 eddieslittleindians MAY-Z 52006
2 Magpie Mafia Ross 51744
3 Pool Swimmers 51691
4 Adelaide Crows Raymond 51691
5 DAISYS DUDS daysofourlives 51393
6 Porter Guns MatteeG 50675
7 Summer of George Shake'n'Bake 50513
8 Cowpokes Alaska Jnr 50072
9 Professor Crow SCD 50030
10 WATTS & MOTS bd u15 09 49972
11 Jays Jocks Jason 49948
12 Dogs Breakfast nuggety goodness 49948
13 wycbloods wycbloods 49823
14 Jims TigerRoos Jim R 48714
15 Coro Chameleons Alaska 48586
16 Honey Badgers Banker 48412
17 cobras Dale G 47572
18 Hawkers Arch44 42758

The weekly par score for this league is 2163 which is a little low for this league. In 2019 we lost a heap of Divvy I coaches and the standard at this level hasn't quite recovered from it yet. I reckon this league will do better especially if Arch44 and Banker can lift their game. Banker had his worst season ever last year but at his best he wins this league. The season par for the league on last year's scoring is only 49753. You'll need to score 50k comfortably to make your mark this season I think.

If you haven't already please join our Hogg Shield group (any chance of changing the name to just Hogg Shield daysie?) , the code for our group is 137550. Being in the group could provide you with a Roosters like entry into the Premier League next year as I'll be using that for the promotional ranking in 2021.

Re: Are you ok?

Am I ok? I'm pretty ******* far from ok as Marcellus once famously said in Pulp Fiction.

I've been under prolonged stress being a team leader at my organisation, looking after the needs of and being strong for everyone else. I've been a referee in stand up fights and managed two employees who suffered life threatening conditions. Our arm of the business was being run as a dollars and cents operation where the rights and needs of employees were secondary to the bottom line. For over six years I was caught between senior managemeqnt above and staff members below, trying to get the best of both worlds happening while continuing to develop professionally and provide value to the organisation. For this challenging leadership role I received no financial reward. The last 18 months in my old department were very challenging indeed.

In July last year it was announced there was to be a restructure. Our unit was to be moved to another department. Usually everybody shits themselves when there is a restructure but our team was ecstatic. We had moved out of the profit driven arm of the organisation and into the field of compliance which is our primary function. Since then I've had about as much fun as Leon Cameron at last year's grand final.

The warning lights began to turn when I started getting duties taken away from me. I have always been versatile and have skills in multiple disciplines. Suddenly I was being asked to choose. As someone who is very passionate about my work I found this sudden necessity for choice to be quite confronting. Then in November I had the team leadership taken away from me. It wasn't even clearly explained, more implied. I thought I was stepping aside while a consultant came in to temporarily oversee management of the team. Not so, I was already out. Then there was a meeting with my team to tell them what they decided not to bother telling me, that I was no longer their manger. I was not invited to this meeting.

Christmas came and went, always a horrible time for me due to the death of my father and his birthday around then too. Shovelling dirt on a beloved pet's face at 6.30 in the morning didn't rank as my best ever Christmas morning. Oh well, onwards and upwards back to work REB. At 8.30 on my first day back I was called in to the office where I was told I was to be taken off a project because my work was late and that it wasn't up to standard. My work was sent for review days before project deadlines and I never got a straight answer as to what exactly was wrong with my work. Seeing as I have been writing training documentation for 15 years I suspected a personal angle to be involved in what should have been a business decision.

For the next two months I had to endure humiliation and bullying as our new consultant opted to consult with the most junior member of the team at the expense of his more senior colleagues. Here I was, 53 with 15 years experience and a Degree doing data entry while the young chap was writing work instructions. I even received an email from this consultant saying that writing was not my strength. This person was my new supervisor, something else the organisation neglected to tell me. So here is this person who obviously doesn't rate me, making evaluations to my department about what our new structure should look like.

Then happy days the organisation worked out the project manager wasn't a people person and disappeared faster than Warner in England. My hopes soared...maybe everything is going to be cool after all. Our team spilled the beans to our manager about the bullshit that was going on and she was shocked. Then the PD news filtered out and straight away we Unioned up. The restructure got knocked back because the new PDs went over everyone's heads. Union to the rescue. Delay, delay, delay with daily calendar appointments.....you'd go to work, is this the day? Is this day? Are they going to use Vaseline?

Last Tuesday the day finally arrived. It was a great result for everyone in the team but I got shafted. Everyone got bumped up a level but I got bumped down a level. Not tooting my own horn here but I know more than anyone in that team, I made it my business to know. They couldn't cut my pay but they can put you on something called Salary maintenance. Salary maintenance means I get paid at my current rate but I won't get a CPI pay rise for years until my new level 'catches up' to my current salary. Not what you want for wage or your super at 53.

After the meeting I met with a delegate and my union rep. I was told the original PDs were ****** for everyone and that the Union were aiming to keep everyone in a job which they managed to do. I also got told that they were going to give me the arse. If it wasn't for my Union I was gone. I was close to breaking all meeting but when I heard that my reward for learning more and putting up my hand to lead the team was a DCM. I felt worthless, I was devasted. I knew this was coming but when the consultant left my spirits were lifted only to be emphatically crushed later.

My union guy talked about something called OSD Organisational Stress Disorder and a middle aged middle management type was at risk. Not sleeping? Tick, not interested in things you normally love, tick, tick, tick. I was at risk. Then came the question "have you had any suicidal thoughts" and my inability to answer the question was all the answers required. All,if a sudden, these thoughts could not be compartmentalised and rationalised. Shit just got real.

Somehow I made it through the meetings and went outside and completely broke down. Everything just crashed down on me at once like a tube at Rip Curl BANG. I'm in the washing machine and I'd never felt so sick in my life. I couldn't hold my head up. I went into work the next day and my supervisor said "what are you doing here". On the way out I got help. EAP, HR, Mental Health first aid officer, and a GP appointment. I'm seeing a shrink in a few weeks and I've reached out to many people. I'm not about to implement a permanent solution to a temporary problem. I have a mental health plan and I've applied for other jobs as I need to get out of where I am.

Finally, I told my boys why Dad has been at home. They are 17 and 23 but I was honest and explained to them that part if being a man is knowing that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. I've been dudded at work, but I still have a job. If I land one of the gigs I'm trying out for, I actually come out in front. I've got more shit to come but I reckon I'm through the worst of it. But the last year or so has been the toughest of my life.
