Re: Hogg Division III 2020

This league was finalised this morning when Gilligan joined up where my brother in law Casey was too slow. Obvious family related joke so tempting but....no....too much class! Four of the original top six are no longer in the league so there is an opportunity for a coach having a breakout season and getting promoted to the 'real' Hogg leagues of Divvy II and higher.

There are quite a number of coaches that haven't had that much experience in SuperCoach who have come a long way in a short period. Ugly Ducklings, Modraaa, SA Rapids are all relatively new to the Hogg who have come a long way in a short amount of time. Ugly Ducklings in particular looks a fast learner.

HOGG DIVISION III 2020

1 Some Cant Lucky For Some 50439
2 Duromine Dependent PPLions 49620
3 Ingle Farm Felons the milky bar kid 49576
4 Ugly Ducklings Steph 49249
5 Failed Creation Failed Creation 49228
6 woolballs wooly 49165
7 The Bye Lightning McQueen 48963
8 WeBrownAsOne Browny 48939
9 Modraaaaa! Cravo 48903
10 Right Nut welovetotalkfooty 48664
11 Liamscrows Liam W 48641
12 Power Rules Gilligan 48634
13 Moneybrawl Dogmatic 48544
14 The Willies brod 48495
15 SA Rapids Brodlach Jnr 48438
16 Jimmy crack corn Media Park 47867
17 Footy Legends Cub 47704
18 ZedForce Zed 47249

The average par score for this league is 2122 which is 40 odd points shy of the league above. The season par score for this league based on last year's scoring is 48795. I will be using the SuperCoach group tool to determine who gets the score based Hogg promotions this year so please join the group if you like getting Hogg Promotions. The code for our group is 137550.

Thanks everyone. Had an interesting meeting with management yesterday. I had them squirming which was good to see. All the while I didn't drop myself in it. A delicate balancing act.

Re: VALE - Doug Thomas

I remember going to a Port v Norwood trial game at Richmond with a Portie mate. We went into the club and we had our hats on and Douggie comes in and says 'hats off boys' and we didn't argue. It might have been a Port v Norwood game but it was his bloody club. Being from the Richmond area he was a man who had great respect in the local community.

Vale Mr West Adelaide.

Re: AFL 2020 Season

Thoughts on the artificial crowd noise on the NRL last night? I thought I wouldn't like it but it is very suttle and thought it was a good addition and gets rid of the echoing in an empty stadium.

Bloody horrible I reckon. Titans v Cowboys and the Cowboys are smashing the Titans and the 'crowd' is carrying on like it's golden point time in an Origin decider. Ridiculous. Gives you a headache watching 'super saturday'.

Then there are the special touches that are missing......Latrell does a big arse fumble and the Roosters get the ball. Next time Latrell takes the ball...where were the Bronxys ffs? You can't manufacture atmosphere. I would rather hear the voices of the players and the THUD of the hits...especially in league. Can you imagine a showdown without the uninformed BALLLLLL!!! chants? And will the AFL factor in the premature ejaculation of Collingwood supporters with the Collingwood chant that rings around the ground when the Pies are three goals up in the second? And what about the polite applause at Cat park when we get a goal?

It's an arms folded big boo from me. Sorry...Booooooooooooooooo.

This time last year Benny Rolfs were on a roll and the foundation teams REBCats and Poony were riding high on the top three spots on the ladder. This year the ladder already has a different look about it. The REBCats are the lowest scoring team in the comp and Poon , while scoring better has the same burger ring in the W column. Another side who regularly threatens the top four is Hondo who is in an uncharacteristic position on the table, stone motherless and in a spot of bother. But you won't hear the REBster sledging the great man as it's Hondo vs. Cats this week in the Premier League mockbuster.

You couldn't begrudge Richo Richo winning a low scoring game and Cover King must have gotten some measure of satisfaction after defeating the defending premiers in an uninspiring contest. Promoted Hips Don't Lie scored a comfortable win to remain unbeaten and Delcious has gotten off to a handy 2-zip start as well. Spiro aka 'The Golden Greek' has yet to have a successful Premier League season but is on track so far in 2020. The sharks were the lowest ranked team going in but instead of sitting on the bottom they are in the top five and scoring well. Top of the class is Ecky's Fevs who have had a better record than the sharks so far and continue to do so. Ecky fully deserves his current rating and the latest team to cop the Ecky Thump (A Goodies reference in memory of Tim Brooke Taylor) was TEAM_FISH who were a bit off as they scored even less than the REBCats which is never a good sign.

Someone left the Twisties pack open and during the twelve week absence the Chicken Twisties were as stale as Mediocre handed out a crunching hiding. Shit. Who eats Chicken Twisties anyway, horrible things. The answer to that of course, is Mediocre at Best chomp chomp. Sanctum and Q opened their accounts on resumption with some solid scoring in a week when the league took a collective dump and our ranking tumbled faster than a Romanian gymnast.

Yet another experienced straggler is Captain Who, who, at least managed to get off the bottom as the Roosters opened their Premier League account and keeping us old hands company in the Wine Cellar is Wadey's Warriors who have found it tough in the top flight so far. So here we go again you blokes Round 3 it is and Hondo if you could stink it up this weekend it would certainly be appreciated mate. 8)

Re: Hogg Round 3 - What becomes of the broken hearted?

I've done OK I have 21 playing and so can drop Whitfields 8, Taylors 44 and Picketts 50 :-BD
Ive slept on it and am still absolutely fuming. There is so many reasons to award some actual points and move on but no lets complicate it and have the uncertasinty of this game being played at any time where they have said these players will score twice in one round. What happens if tyhis game isnt scheduled until r14-17 when SC finals are on? If i wanted to have rounds with teams playing twice id play SC Cricket.
Then thers cash generation stalling and the ability of other coaches to now get these players without another price rise effectively handing players 4 trades in one round whilst i have 2. I had to choose between Rivers and Sturt, i went Rivers, anybody who went the other way can now have both without a price change.
Then there is the fact i will have 17 playing with players on the bench scoring but no E on them as 6 games had already been played and i cant get them on the field

Might have to think about a non-promotion/relegation season this year depending on how many other rounds are compromised. Already we aren't playing each other once, now this round and then if we have a 'double up' finals series that compromises promotion as well. As for the loss you are wearing, you can recover from one loss but yeah the cash generation thing is a worry. I was going to bring in Rivers but went Starcevich in the end.

The Willies stand alone at the top of the Division III ladder after a routine win over Failed Creation which saw the Creation tumble out of the top eight. The Ugly ducks lived up to their name this week during a round in which the winless teams all manage to open their account for the season. It was a brilliant win for the Felons who hadn't looked like it so far at any stage this season. Unfortunately for them though, The Bye had a close win over Jimmy while FootyLedgens managed to hang on over Power Rules to keep their season alive.

A couple of sides managed to score well and for the first time one of those was Browny. Browny hadn't been scoring squat all season but that changed this week with a sensational 2201 which was more than enough to bring Modraaaaa crashing down to earth. As impressive as Browny's effort was, spare a thought for Zed who scored 2224 but were beaten by Duromine Dependent's 2273 in what was the match of the round. There is nothing worse than scoring the second best score in the league and being beaten by the best. Zed's dead baby, Zed's dead.

It wasn't a great week for stragglers who got rolled and SA Rapids in particular are looking shaky. Moneybrawl was well beaten and Jimmy lost by seven so the bottom end of the table is even tighter than it is at the top. Right now The Willies are sitting pretty, this means in SuperCoach that the shit is going to hit the fan for Brod....

The Willies stayed one step ahead of the rest after cracking Jimmy and the Fleece stayed golden for another week but in Round 5 the big story was the stunning victory by Ingle Farm Felons who topped the league in scoring to thrash top eight contender Power Rules. The Power are on a bit of a slippery slope at the moment after dropping two straight matches to teams who were in the relegation zone, although they can feel a bit put out that their score was the third highest score of the round and it wasn’t enough to beat the bottom side!

Failed Creation got the percentage booster by topping 2100 against struggling SA Rapids and Some Cant, The Willies and FootyLegends all put in solid performances to get the four points. The bye is another side who has been struggling so far this season but they might have turned the corner with a battling, low scoring win against the all of a sudden Ugly Ducks. After a freak week last week Browny went back to his usual ways as he was eclipsed by ZedForce who appear to be back in town this week.

Re: Vale: Mark Naley

The passing of Naley has made me think back to that time when we had so many champion rovers in this state. To make the state side as consistently as Naley did at a time when blokes like Hodgeman, McGuiness, Antrobus and Platten were running around gives a fair indication of just how good he was. Used to love the rovers. The tough little men who kept bouncing back up whenever they got clobbered, who ran all day and created and scored brilliant goals. Sadly now an endangered species in the game.

Nathan Buckley says life on the road is having a negative affect on his players....already????

Wow they are in Sydney where they arent confined to their hotel room. A lot better off than the teams in Queensland who are confined to their hotel for 14 days.
If thats what Buckley is projecting i dont think the Hawks will have any trouble over coming the Pies tomorrow night. One thing we know about Clarko is he will have a positive spin for the situation much like the snow game last year. I expect the Hawks to do really well through any isolation periods

Clarkson 12, Buckley 1. I know who your bitches are and it aint us. The bookies have the Pies as favourites and the wheels are well and truly falling off at Collingwood. If I was a betting man I'd be all over the Hawks as I reckon they are certainties.

Two donuts in my back half this week and nothing I can do to fix it til next round, so gonna have to hope I can maximize the C .. Days, take Neales 134 or Grundy, Gawn, Mitchell, Cripps or Boak?
The backline is pure horse shit this year, the two certainty rookies played round 1 and haven't been seen since, I'm taking donuts back there because if I burn a trade I'll only score 35 or something like that anyway.

Had to use both my trades yesterday before most teams were announced and pretty sure I can’t reverse them once the round has commenced?

The cops have been called on Divy III as it's The Willies show here and the cops don't look too kindly on those kind of shenanigans! brod has been racking up the wins all season long and they have handy two game buffer at the top of the league, making The Willies an unbackable premiership favourite. The Willies are currently on top of the hit parade as well as the number one team in the Hogg this year so it's been a cracking season from brod. Second ranked Some Can't is next in line but perhaps the main threat could come from Cravo's Modraaaaaa! who have been steadily compiling a a solid list in recent weeks some astute trading going on at Mods Park. Right Nut is another who have worked their way into the top four ahead of Golden Fleece who after a strong start have started to struggle a little bit and are beginning to fall off the pace a little.

I reckon the top eight is pretty much set here. Duromine will be looking to get by the Fleece and maybe as far as the top four while Failed Creation and ZedForce have been solid, even though ZedForce's inconsistency makes them a bit vulnerable to sides such as Liamcrows and Ingle Farm Felons who look to be the stronger challengers to the eight than the Ducks and Browny.

At the lower end of the ladder i reckon the bottom three are gone and there are three sides fighting it out not to join them. Power Rules is currently in the relegation zone even though there were in the top eight not all that long ago. The are scoring pretty well but not getting the wins. FootyLegends were 6th two weeks ago but after back to back losses they are back amongst the ruck and fighting it out with Moneybrawl whose season is following a similar trajectory to Cub's. Your guess is as good as mine as to which side joins the league spuds in the bottom three in Division IV next season.

Re: Round 9 - We gotta get out of this place

Whats the deal with Brander, I thought he'd been out with injury but seems thats not the case?

That was a weird one. SC said he was injured and then it said he was omitted and the AFL site didn't have any injury report. I think the Weagles have been playing silly buggers there but something is up. They brought in Rotham last week so who knows...second strike??? One thing the Eagles (and the REBCats) aren't playing is Brander. For me its Brander out and Close and cash in.

The Willies cracking season continues with broderik remaining unbeaten after ten rounds. Even the kiss of death can’t stop him and it’s The Willies flag to lose here. Going up with Will is the main contnders Modra and Some Can’t and Golden Fleece has had a few poor moments but continue to bounce back into the top four whenever they put in a poor performance. This is quite a competitive league though and there are a few teams outside of the top eight who might give this league a shake if they can make it. I’m refering to ZedForce and FootyLegends who need to find some consistency to make their mark. Two teams look a monty for the drop and The Bye is also on shaky ground. One of Moneybrawl or Ingle Farm Felons might go down also which says plenty about the standard of this league as both sides have had improved seasons this year.

Re: AFL 2020 Season

Said it before that Mitch is one of my favorite players, taken a long time for people to catch on

I’ve always liked Mitch’s fearless approach to ball and body.

Lynch’s actions causing too much hysteria imho, whacked a bloke in the guts and you’d think he’d king hit someone. Not legal obviously, but who doesn’t want blokes that cross the line in their side? Certainly added plenty to the theatrical side of the game the other night.

**** the reaction. Hitting someone in the guts and getting a goal out of it is bullshit. Guy is a dead set flog. Against Brisbane he whacked a dude in the back of the head when he was lying on the ground. **** Lynch he's an utter spanner. Do it when they are facing you if you want to cross the line, not when they aren't looking. Wanker.

For the life of me I can't recall who the Golden Fleece are but whoever they are they are top of the pile after smashing the Ingle Farm Felons in the Hogg III opener. If round one scores are anything to go by this could be a very close league. No one got to 2200 and only FootyLedgens with 1861 really bottomed out so I won't be trying to write too many preview posts for this league. One thing about Divvy III is certain though, is that it's a lot harder than Divvy II. wycbloods jnr Liamscrows sailed through Divvy V last year but Liam has already hit the rocks on their second journey against the other junior player in the league SA Rapids. i don't think there are any junior players in the leagues above so these guys are duking it out for the title of best young player in the Hogg this year. 1-0 to rapids so far.

Out of all the top eight sides only Brown Boys could consider himself lucky to be there with some solid scores by the rest of the top 10 teams. Browny will need a lift to stay in the eight but right now he's in. A couple of promoted sides had mixed fortunes in the first round with Modraaaaaa crashing to earth while the UglyDucks took off. UglyDucklings are a team that prepares very thoroughly so look out Divvy III.

Update

Round 12 featured a couple of very close results which will shape the final eight. FootyLegends have come from the outhouse and looking at the penthouse after an eight point win over UglyDucks who are now hoping for a Golden Fleece lost to avoid missing the eight by the slimmest of margins. A desperate Bye squeaked by Some Can't by one point to keep their necks above the relegation zone. Lightning goes well when he is on and I reckon he can grab another win this week and stay up in Divvy III next season. Liamscrows opened the door to the eight for the chasing pack when it defeated Failed Creation by ten points. Creation now has to beat the in form Modra to make the finals this season. I reckon Mods gets the job done there and that the Legends will beat the Felons and take his spot.

The top four teams have all flexed their muscles during the frenzy with Golden Fleece the main casualty. Fleece have been looking good for a top four spot but have slumped in recent weeks. Golden Fleece will be hoping that Ugly Ducks in particular don't salute as the high scoring Zed should finish a puzzling season off with a big win. Some Can't might have gotten rolled last week but I think they might upset the unbeaten ladder leaders in the last round. The Willies are still well clear but other teams appear to have bridged the scoring rate which is all that matters in the last month of the season. I reckon the top four go up and despite a relatively quiet week for Willies they deserve premiership favourtism at this point of the year.

A couple of teams booked their Division IV tickets weeks ago but The Bye have fought hard to get out of the bottom four. Ingle Farm Felons have had their moments this year but not enough of them. FootyLegends form has improved in the second half of the year and they should account for the Felons and sentence them to the drop. Power Rules started the season well but as the year has progressed they've found wins hard to come by. They will be hoping that The Bye can't continue his recent scoring and that they can somehow upset Duromine who have been in very good form recently. I reckon the teams in the bottom four all go down with The Bye to survive in Divvy III.

Re: AFL 2020 Season

Ok, happy to agree to disagree, I enjoyed the “unsociable Hawks” era too. Just don’t think this incident is as big as its being made out to be. Understand I’m probably in the minority.

Not really disagreeing with you as I reckon the hype is overblown, as was Hardwick's ridiculous defence. I just really loathe the player. I didn't enjoy the unsociable Hawks era as they played chip chip woodchip and belted blokes with 'not enough force' for years, they were the masters at it. Fancy enjoying Clarko's bullshit. Now Hawks of the 80's that was enjoyable. Three times as many champion players for a start.

Re: Hogg Division I 2020

Finals Week One

1st Qualifying Final
Summer of George 2172
Jays Jocks 2135

2nd Qualifying Final
Watts & Motts 2164
DAISYSDUDS 2105

1st Elimination Final
Wycbloods 2100
PorterGUNS 1961

2nd Elimination Final
Cowpokes 2023
Professor Crow 2000

Another minor premier bit the dust in this league as the Summer of George were too hot for Jays jocks who lowered their colours. There have been more than a few duds in this league but the teams in the eight aren't included in this and as a result there have been a series of tightly contested matches to open the finals. It wasn't a complete wipe out by Jays Jocks who carded a pretty good 2135 but Georgie boy was too strong. One more win for George and they are in the Premier League. The other team in the same boat is Watts & Motts who enjoyed a 59 point win over the Chris Scott coached DAISYSDUDS. Again the DUDS not disgraced by DAISY must be frustrated by the lack of finals success he has endured despite being one of the most consistent scorers of the past five years. At least if you drop a Quallie you have another chance and it was bye bye to PorterGUNS who had the misfortune of having his season ended when Jelly's head smashed into Mumford's knee. You can't write that shit..oh hang on, I just did. Bye bye Uncle Bill, no soup for you. A couple of weeks ago Cowpokes were sitting pretty in second spot but a last round slip up saw them drop to seventh. So it perhaps fitting that the Cows escaped a first round exit, albeit very narrowly as the Professor came within 23 points of extending their season.

Semi Finals - tips in bold .

Jays Jocks v Wycbloods
DAISYSDUDS v Cowpokes

In a lot of the finals there is a smokey coming up from the bottom half of the eight to challenge but not so in this league. I reckon Wycbloods will give Jays Jocks are a real shake in that final but I reckon Jay will bounce back and end the bloods' year and they'll get a second crack at earning promotion to the big league. I can't believe I'm selecting DAISY to win a final but us Geelong supporters will always believe that if you knock on the door long enough, the bloody thing will open. Hopefully a DUDS victory signals a change of fortune! I reckon the Cows won't go as well as the bloods so feeling pretty confident about that tip. As a former Premier League side the bloods will be tough but it's Jays just for me.

Re: AFL 2020 Season

Simon Black just saying that night time at the GABBA in October will be worse for dew than now. It wont be a great look for the showpiece of our game.

I wonder if they could install big fans around the GABBA, given it wont be a capacity crowd some seats could be removed and fans installed. It would only take 2 or 3 of them. Fans like we have in the Barossa for protection from frost, i really think its doable. Before anyone says it would effect the flight of the ball, it wont, its only a light breeze, just enough to keep the air moving

Just get Clarko to come in and bitch and moan. All that hot air will get rid of the Dew for sure.

Re: Hogg Grand Final Thread 2020

Hogg Division V

harryshawks vs. Giants Legends

Wycbloods' daughter Emma is keeping that premiership feeling in the family as she aims to complete the perfect season in Hogg Division V. Either the youngster is a precocious SuperCoach talent or Dad has been the guiding hand the end result is the same 15-0 and aiming for a clean sweep. Standing in their way is another female coach in Giants Legends in this all ladies' Grand Final. Giants Legends are a rookie team so it a Grand Final in their first year is an outstanding performance and naturally both have been rewarded with promotion.

Apart from having the wrong Lyons in the side harryshawks is a beautiful side that would not look out of place in a higher league. Giants Legends are, well, Giants Legends. The Legends have no less than eight Giants in their team (hmm...I wonder who Kerryn barracks for LOL) and generally this is not an advisable strategy in SuperCoach. If the Giants don't do that well then the Giants Legends might follow suit. Against your average Division V side that isn't a problem but harryshawks are not an average Divvy V side. This looks like the most one-sided match up of the round and harryshawks should go on to record a well deserved premiership. My tip - harryshawks by 129 points .

Re: The best AFL team of the modern era.

Geelong shat the bed in 2008 but their record over a 200 game period is the best in VFL/AFL history and we didn't need to merge or have a larger salary cap to do it. The best team I have seen though remains Hawthorn 1983-91. Just look at the list of champion players they had through that period. Amazing. Tough and bloody good to boot.

That was one of the best Shield matches I have seen for some time at Karen Rolton Oval. The wicket was green as on the first day but when conditions were toughest to bat on Marnus played the innings of the match. I got my first extended look at Swepson and he looks very impressive. I reckon he plays in Sydney on current form. Copeland pulled out a McGrath like effort in the second dig but overall it was the more even contribution of the Blues got them over the line but only just. In closing, can anyone recall a worse fieldsman in first class cricket than Usman Khawaja? He is shocking.

Going well then?

Leading wicket taker almost LOL. Poor bugger, learning his craft while the main strike bowlers aren't getting wickets. He'd go much better behind a decent strike attack in my view. He bowls some great deliveries but lets the pressure off far too often. I really think he's a talent but could do with a spell after that mauling. If they let him cop that all summer they'll ruin him forever.

Geelong offered 2 of their 1st round picks 13, 15 and 20 to GWS who knocked it back wanting all three or two of them and a player from Geelong.

Hope we knock it back. I'd rather we get serious and bring the list age right down but it looks like we are going to be Dad's army once again. If we go a full length season and long quarters it's another Prelim smashing at best for us. Cameron is a quality player but I'd hate to see us sell the farm for him. If we do that then the cliff that everyone has been saying is inevitable for us about ten years now becomes a reality.

Until the cheating Smith and Warner go I won’t be supporting Australian cricket.
How everyone just overlooks what they did is beyond me.

What crap that is. No one overlooks it. They got a one year suspension which was pretty much imposed by the public reaction for something that the ICC would have given them a one match suspension for. Ball tampering has been going on for decades. Our blokes got caught and did the time. While they can never fully regain the trust and respect they once had I saw first hand what Smith in particular was up against and his performances in England was simply remarkable cricket. Too bad you couldn't enjoy it.

Re: Favourite player from rival clubs

Hodge, Mitchell, Birchall and Lewis
Not that druggy from Sydney.

Butters, Hurn, Liam Ryan, C.Cameron, Rankine and Martin all watchable for different reasons.

Cant stand Lynch, Hawkins, Dangerfield and pretty much anyone from the Bulldogs.

Mate I'm gutted. First we lose the bloody Grand Final and now it looks like you hate the Bulldogs worse than us! **** sake lift your game.
