Smoking and drinking aren't either are they?

The covid deaths are on top of road deaths, suicides, cancer etc.
Covid means, when its out of control, medical staff have to choose who to keep alive.
What a terrible decision for these people to make.

I was told when it was at its peak in italy, medical staff couldn't treat anyone over 60.

Clearly a poor match up, especially the way Geelong got the 1 on 1 they wanted.

Pretty sure if I love tapped your solar plexus, liver, or kidneys from behind you'd want retribution... when you recovered.

That's why they've stamped down on it.
Love tap or strike....doesn't matter.

Back in the day I'd get shirt fronted with a solid hip and shoulder for striking you by one of your team mates.
Can't do that now for fear of a massive suspension and hammered in the media.

Games changed. Strike anywhere...love tap, open hand, whatever its automatic suspension in my book.

Games changed for the worse IMO
I kinda agree with you at some level.
If you whacked someone back in the day you had to expect that someone would get you....eventually.
That was a bit of a deterrent in itself.
We've all had that team mate that you walked taller around.

Afl was frightened parents would send their lads to play soccer so they've softened the game we all know that.

Re: Australian International Summer 2020/21

I'm interested in what we thought of the pitch.
Seemed to me it looked to be a great cricket wicket.

I don't think the pitch or pink ball had anything to do with their 2nd innings.
They got done by some of the best test bowling I've seen for a long time.
Both sides bowled well and I think some of the batters have been spoiled rotten with bat friendly wickets for too long.

Good to see Burns make some runs.
Maybe someone should hit him before he goes out to bat in future?

I saw the scratching smith video this morning.
Really didn't like the look of it.
Sure, stand and shadow bat, but to rub someone's batting marks out like he did just smacks of petulance.

Certainly not captaincy standard of behaviour.

Re: Australian International Summer 2020/21

It didn't, but why do it?

Why does he do any of the multitude of other weird things he does.
Shadow batting at home, twitching constantly, adjusting everything before each ball, etc.

I suspect a lot of it is a force of habit more than a conscious decision.

I wouldn't have scratched around the area where the batsman sets up, but to suggest its petulance and 'not captaincy behaviour' is implying there was malice in his actions, which I disagree with.
Again shadow batting is one thing but in my opinion he was being a petulant wanker.
What other reason would he have to do it other than making the batter take guard again.
Sorry his quirky nature is no excuse for this shit.

Re: Australian International Summer 2020/21

Nathan Lyon is the most ordinary average player to have played 100 Tests. Seriously... he has a consistent stock ball, and then...?

So many times we fail to bowl teams out in 4th innings on 5th days. When spinners should be licking their lips, Lyon has nothing to offer.

100 tests and 400 wkts at 31 ave. That pans out to an average of 2 for 62 per innings. Not gunna win many matches with that. Played 100 tests and has taken more test wickets than anyone since he made his debut in 2011.
I can completely understand people's frustrations with Lyon and his bowling average and strike rate arent anything super but he's easily the best we got and have had since Stuart MacGill retired and there has been really no other spinner in domestic cricket that's looked like taking his spot as our number 1 spinner.
This summer has been his worst since 14/15.
Looking at his 4th innings bowling, his average, strike rate and RPO are all slightly better than his overall career numbers but has less wickets than in the other 3 innings so I can understand why people question why he can't spin us to victory in the forth innings.
I've just come to really appreciate what Lyon has done for Australia over the last 10 years and accepted that's he's the best we have, whether that be for better or for worse, depending on what side of the fence you sit on. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210119/69b92fb17d3a5f8b8a4ea38e9753c355.jpg

Great work dk...
Lyon has the worst SR of any in the Top 20.
And the only one in the top 20 with a worse average is Moen Ali who cannot hold a regular spot.
think to me, those figures tell a greater story than he having taken more wkts than any other plater. Simply he has bowled far more than any other player.
Lets take a serious look at Swepson I reckon... opposition know Lyon has no Plan B or C.
Factor in how many dropped catches and missed stumpings.
He had Wade for a keeper for a while and he was useless.
I know all bowlers have to cop dropped chances but I reckon he's copped it the worst.

At times he's bowled brilliantly for a none fa.

Curious as to why clubs deserve zones?
Some clubs may put time and effort into their local clubs, but others certainly don't and don't deserve the local kids being zoned or loyal .
Surely if you go through big changes like this you plan for things being run better. That's the whole point. What's been done previously hasn't worked. Rather than carrying forward rifts and pettiness from yesteryear (or inattention) like jilted lovers

Re: AFL 2021

How do Port keep having cap space available?

Smart list management (including hitting 3 drafts hard and finding talented kids who at the moment are on the lower end of the pay scale but are playing like well paid veterans) , players willing to stay together as a group, not over paying anyone player at the top, club culture making it hard to leave and easy to come on board and I won't dismiss the cost of living in Adelaide. $500k per year in Adelaide is significantly different to $500k per year living in Melbourne.
Your list management, scouting, has been first rate.
It'll be in the next 2 years you might find trouble.
You don't seem to lose any worth keeping either which is a testament to pt Adelaide.

How much does his stick cost
Does he still talk about the unbeaten 30 he made coming in a nine to win the third grade flag back in 72-73??

Re: Community Cricket Structure

Interesting topic.

We've been approached a couple of times but knocked it back on the grounds that our club philosophy is you play where you are picked.
Having said that, if you only want to play one day cricket, we'd accommodate that as best we could.
There just isn't enough turf grounds down this way for us to expand to a second one day team.

At the risk of being called racist, I've seen some pretty dodgy actions and blatant cheating when umpiring themselves.
Governance of behaviour is administered by the clubs, with respect to spirit of cricket, but these teams don't have that.
There's been numerous complaints lodged with atca on this matter but not much can/is done.
Now I know club teams can be guilty of this kind of stuff too, but re. a suspect action, then that would be dealt with in house.
Scorers not being able to count would also be handled in house.
Pop up clubs don't have that, it seems.

I'm all for more participation but not in favour of pop up clubs for the above reasons.
Obviously for a new club ie. with juniors etc then they'd have a rock solid constitution in place then I'd be fine with that.
