Re: Ashes 2023

Is it time up for champion English fast bowler to retire?

Old age does catch up to MOST sportsmen
There are 2 exceptions that I know of
Cliff Young who won the Syndey to Melbourne marathon foot race in 1983, aged 61
And myself who won the trophy for most wickets in my last fool season of cricket, aged 46
Nice work.
A mate of mine took 55 wickets at 55 years of age. Wiley old leggie. Outstanding effort.

Re: AFL Season 2023

It's American bs.
The 8th placed team is usually kicked out convincingly in the elimination final.
So let's say 10th snuck in after a fluke win.
Whoever plays them is basically getting a bye round in a final.

Re: Ashes 2023

Gentleman I think some of you need to take a breathe.

We just won the world test championship and currently we have the poms 2-1 on there home decks and conditions.

We have also lost the goat which could hurt us badly in the end.

If we win the ashes I hope there's a lot of hat eating.

Carn Australia!

Re: Ashes 2023

Why should a player have to put up with BS from spectators ... good on Marbus and Ussie having a word back .. cos gee the spectator shat his pants!!!! ... There lucky its not a Robbie muir jumping the fence

It's more about spectators in close proximity to players (presumably members) needing to adhere to a higher standard.

You compare what this spectator said versus the comments being said on the AO Hill once the drinks kick in at its chalk and cheese.
Bay 13 and the old Sydney hill also spring to mind.

Just keep walking, acknowledging dickheads is lowering yourself to their level.

Re: Ashes 2023

So pretty much Bazball dominated the Ashes and if not for rain Manchester would have won the thing.

Test cricket is changed. Similar to how Sri Lanka changed ODI in the mid-late 90s.

Bazball may struggle against a captain who doesn't jump at shadows

Not sure all of it's on the captain.
The bowling plans put together by the coach were terrible.

It seems to me building pressure by making the batter think has gone out the window.
Fields were set to shut bowling.
A deep point first over is negative and gives an easy single every time. So pressure is relieved.

Re: AFL Finals Week 1

Well, pile on now haters. ;)

OK.

You are a shit groundsman and a pissweak Glenelg supporter and don't have the courage to support a local side in the AFL.

Also overweight with smelly breath and have not had sex with anyone else besides yourself for over 20 years.
Wtf have I done to you to deserve that tirade?
I'm not overweight!

Re: AFL Finals Week 2

Coniglio was everywhere last night.
I didn't see anyone put any attention into him at all.
Ports midfield just struggled to get their hands on it.
At one stage I thought Wines had been subbed off.
Aalir dropped some contested marks he'd normally take.
And kicked points from gettable areas.

GWS were very good but can't see them beating the pies next week.
Their big bloke looked very sore late in the game and that could be the difference.

I so want to play Carlton in a gf but can't see Brisbane losing.
Skills and execution wise, these finals have been ordinary so far imo.

Re: 2023 AFL GF

Premiership medals should go to the 23 that played on the day.
There's always a hard luck story or two, but that's footy.
It's cruel for blokes like Adams, even Bob Murphy but I don't agree with the whole squad getting them.

Re: The Voice Referendum - Oct 2023

So if not the Voice, then what? Or are we going to keep doing the same thing that hasn’t worked for the last 200 years?
Make the whole system more accountable and deeper forensic audits on where the billions are going.
Whoever is in charge of that be it a first peoples minister is where the buck stops.
Like any business, if it's failing then a change of leadership is required.

Re: The Voice Referendum - Oct 2023

If they went to a referendum to "only" add recognition for first nations in the constitution, it wins easily.
I agree, and am certain there would be bi-partisan and public support .

This.
There's more than enough committees, consultants, ministers, land councils, etc etc to do their jobs and close the gap.

Seems to me it's just over complicated an already poorly run system with no accountability for poor results.

Am I missing it, how long is the suspension? Minimum 3 months....if it can be proved that it was taken out of competition.

Did he not test positive on game day?
Pretty sure that's in competition.

How long would something like coke stay in the system to be tested as being 'in competition'

Given how early players have to get to the ground these days im presuming he has had to take it somewhere in the changerooms for it to have an affect by the time the game comes along. Presuming he is taking it for increased game day performance rather than just recreational abuse.
Can stay in your system for 2-3 days.
There's no way he's taking it game day surely.
I'm thinking a night out the night before or the night before that.

I would go as high as 50% of teams in any league you care to name would be guilty of salary cap cheating.
This may scare most of them clean but they're will always be the ol brown paper bag.

Re: Current state of Supercars

Didn't know this thread existed.
Not sure where I sit with this Erebus fiasco.
Part of me says, hey kid you just won a championship with a team .
You have a contract and our sponsors want you in the car first race showing off the number 1 against all the sponsors logos. Fair enough.
Another part of me says, Barry Ryan would be a very difficult individual to not punch in the face.

Red Bull or DJR have the car and there's a spare license. Not sure Erebus will release him.
I'm thinking this could end up in court.

On another note, I thought svg was in the main game in nascar.
He's only in 7 races, but predominantly will only race in the infinity series. So he's left supercars to play bgrade.
Sad indictment on where supercars sit right now.
I used to love em. Watched brocky whip the ho in 72 and always watched when on free to air telly. Been to the 500 a bunch of times back in the day but lost it's gloss with me when Holden's shut.

Re: TDK's International Test Cricket Update's

Jimmy trying to turn the clock back with dyed hair.
You're finished son. Jaiswal treated him like a net bowler.

So the drs decision on Crawley has Stokes whinging about the rules.
The poms seem to find a decision they don't like then sook about it for days after the event.
They're just an ordinary team. No excuses.

Re: TDK's International Test Cricket Update's

Ben Duckett:

Duckett also felt without England’s ‘Bazball’ tactics under Test coach Brendon McCullum, Jaiswal — and other players across the world — might not have had the confidence to play in such a manner.

“When you see players from the opposition playing like that, it almost feels like we should take some credit that they’re playing differently than how other people play Test cricket,” Duckett said

They really are sipping the Bazball Koolaid aren't they. WTF?
It's like they think they invented attacking cricket.
Smokescreen for losing.
It's embarrassing England.....stop it!

Re: AFL media

Laura Kane on media street this week, I reckon she's been impressive in most of what I've seen.
Saw her on the couch and thought she went alright.
Seems to be pretty clever and definitely got her head in the game.
She's going to need it as I can see some issues with head knocks being accidental and blokes getting rubbed out.

Then the AFL triple it wtf for Finlayson?
And to be clear it doesn't matter if the alleged victim is gay, you shouldn't be calling people nasty names.
