Re: River Murray Football League talk

Looks like Mypo have signed Moss, I seriously hope they aren't paying him what he was asking from Ramblers.

Gives them a pretty potent forward line with Martin, Robinson & Kowald from Imps, could they be an early Smokey at he flag? Definitely looks like they have been a lot more active in recruiting than our mob

Lost a few biff? Margatich, Kay, cheer, rumbelow?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah grassy, you got them all! Kay impossible to replace but will hopefully be back, cheer & rumbles chasing the elusive $$$ and Marga after last years efforts, well it could be a blessing in disguise.

Have picked up 2 but both have landed on our doorsteps, one hopefully a zero pointer (played some limited juniors) and he other a relative unknown midfielder. Good thing is we are getting solid numbers out in extreme heat and some fringe players are really cranking on the training track

Re: River Murray Football League talk

Interesting to hear that one of the high paid recruits has openly said " I am getting paid more than I am worth , BUT I will take it " , that's the trouble when Clubs open the wallets and don't do their homework. And that is typical across country footy , absolute joke what some of the blokes are getting paid.

That doesn't really narrow it down, there's heaps of them - care to elaborate?

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

Just a thought but maybe Hamley could think about putting some time and money into a junior program instead of self destructing in 1-2 years. Who runs that show?

How are clubs suppose to put time and money trying to promote and build juniors if there aren't any?
Kids are too interested in playing ps3, smoking weed and fingering girls which means footy or sport in general gets put on the back burner.
I know that we promote juniors to play senior footy wherever possible but the talent pool is so shallow that some of the junior coming through just aren't up to senior standard.

Motlops Daniel and Marlon at Ironbank this year :)

Thought Ironbank wern't spending any $ this year?

Maybe 1200+ each per game plus a sign on isn't big money at the Thunderers?
According to these boys they only have to train once a week as well so it's a bloody good wicket they're on! Well done to Ironbank, going where at least one other hills club refused to go...

Classic Champ... didn't you have a go at getting Motlop, Pickett and finally secured Ware? Good players and Ware managed a premiership before he ca$hed out and ran.

Sure did Biffboy, would be pretty rare I would think. Pretty low scoring day in both grades, blowing a gale out at Mypo today.

No wonder Yank are getting smashed each week on the field when the players are punching on, off the field!
One of the best 3 players in the club, association representative and a young leader.
It's bad enough he has a reputation for dirty tactics on the field without picking fights with team mates at club functions throwing several punches at own team mates
Talented football needs the club to take a stance and pull him back into line!

Re: Great Southern Football League

Is the whole interleague concept still well sorted in your league? I am involved with the Hills and we had our first IL game in nearly five years on the weekend beating River Murray by 5 points. There was a huge crowd down at the bridge and some serious footy was played, and speaking from Hills people I think the concept was welcomed back with opened arms. This being the case, just want to get a few opinions on here with the old Lovelock Shield all our Leagues were once involved in. How do you think your league would take to the idea of re forming it? I think you'd get a few more guys keen if you actually had something to play for after a solid weekend of good football played. Just thought I'd open it up and see what you guys are thinking

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

How did Thach get a game before Galbraith?

He can take my spot, I won't be playing in this rubbish tournament again.
The quicker the league accept that this format is s**t, the better off it'll be.
Players sacrifice their Saturday on a long weekend to play 2x40 minute games.
We play our first game, then do nothing but wait around and let our body seize up, then play our final game 2 hours later.
Spoke with an U23 player and he said he too enjoyed driving 2 hours to sit on a 5 man bench and play 25% game time (which in this tournament equates to playing 10 minutes per game and 20 minutes for the day).
Why don't the APFL do what most other leagues do and play a full 4 quarter game against another league?

Re: APPS Country Football

Huge changes coming in for next season apparently, including a heavily monitored maximum player payment of $400 per player.

This is sure to end some country clubs.

Good luck with that.

For the honest clubs that are not within an hour of the CBD this will see some clubs fold. Who will drive to Yorkes or mid north or Riverland for 400 a game?

Cant see it working, too many ways around it.
The payment will just get shifted from club to sponsors etc.
There is no way they can stop members of the public going up to players after the game and slipping $500 in their pockets each week.
Ive been involved in clubs in Vic country leagues where it wasnt uncommon for wealthy supporters to slip money to players before and after games.
You also have business owners employing players on decent wages but the players never even attend.
Plenty of legit ways to pay players big $$ and keep the taxman happy

Re: APPS Country Football

Some of you may not have read this recently in the Murray Vallee standard. Will be interesting to hear the feedback as I think James Moore as worded this perfectly and said what a lot of us are thinking.

=D> =D> =D> =D>
Well done James Moore, fantastic letter. Let's just hope the powers-to-be actually have a read of it and take it on board.

I think the SANFL clubs are quick to point the finger but there have been countless times when a good junior of your club heads down to play underage for the zone SANFL club for a few years and then when they're on the brink of getting cut, the SANFL club points them in the direction of a div 1-2. amateur club because that level of football would be better for their "development". Unfortunately, these players are then lost to their "home" clubs unless money is offered to get them back. If the SANFL were more engaging with the country zone clubs, then some of the enticing $$ may not be offered to their league/ressie players.

Re: APPS Country Football

The problem the amateur league clubs face is that they pay everyone in their A Grade 21 meaning less money to spend on big signings. That is their main problem and the reason they cant compete with country clubs who may in general only have 6-8 players on the pay role.
Fix that problem instead of sooking bout country clubs taking your players.
You dont see the country clubs sooking when a young lad goes off to Uni or the city for employment and joins an amateur league club.

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

I reckon a lot of people would be happy with this week off, especially families being first weekend of school holidays etc. Having a break can be a good thing.

The only issue for me is that it is so close to Landmark Cup bye, and team with a club bye either side of those two weekends play hardly any football over a 6 week period.

Virginia and Two Wells had a bye either side of landmark cup so Virginia 3 games in 6 weeks, Two Wells only 2 games in 5 weeks.
Then Hamley and Balak have a bye either side of Zone champs for Hamley 2 games in 5 weeks Balak 3 games in 6 weeks.

Too stop start for teams trying to get momentum in the iddle half of the season etc...

The quicker they get rid of zone footy and put more emphasis on Association footy the better!

I fail to see the relevance in any of it unless it was association of origin.
The relevance of it is to add another level for country footballers to aspire to.
Association and Zone footy provide a stepping stone towards a higher level of footy, somewhere between the country A grade and SANFL reserve grade level, possibly higher.
For some, it will be the pinnacle of their football careers, for others, it's a chance to either go on and represent the state or better yet, get noticed by SANFL clubs.
Angus Bruggemann is a prime example, a lumbering, overweight and aggressive goat at Meningie (not my words Angus), turned it around in one season by stepping up at each level presented, ends up playing a key role at Port Adelaide the following year.
It doesn't mean much to some but I relish the opportunity to play with the best of the association and region.
It's enjoyable to line up alongside Joel Montgomerie, Caleb Howell, Ned Seccafien, Heath Pym, Ryan Appleton etc.
Maybe that's a purely selfish outlook on my part but I'll look back in years to come, when I'm too old to play, and have absolutely no regrets that I took every opportunity I could to play at a higher level, with some of the best players I've played against.

Had a look at the Peake lameroo game yesterday absolute cracker of a game one of the best mallee games I've seen.. Great win by Peake they showed a bit of ticker to get up think they were 9 points down with about 5 minutes to go.

Were both teams at full strength big dog?
Any chance Mahony will sneak into a forward pocket come finals??

Can anyone actually pick who will win this comp? Seems like it's really up for grabs by any club. Bottom beat top by 70 points or something crazy like that. Must be good for the players having a good contest wk in wk out..

Gonna need a big pocket!

Re: HFL Central Division

I'm an outsider but gee this relegation shit does my head in flicking through it, that's all that's talked about every week.

The reason it is so topical is that it is so damn important and was so badly handled by the HFL leading into this season.

Amazing what a lack of trust by the HFL in the clubs involved has done - and something they should be accountable for.

If the playing field was even for all clubs involved this may have helped in gaining some equity for the governing body.

It wasn't and now has set a precedence for problematic times moving forward.

Clubs are now gun shy when dealing with the HFL as the air of mistrust is still evident.

Lets hope they take responsibility for their previous actions and admit the shortcomings in the way they handled it - amend their ways and show real leadership this time.

Re: River Murray Football League talk

Certainly going to be a few interesting weeks Grassy. Its amazing how quiet it has been on here, funny what happens when Imps have an average year.

That said, its really the first time in a while that a team finishing 5th could do some damage come finals time. They are finally getting a full side & getting the two young blokes in from town will only help them more.

I cant see the ladder changing to much over the next 4 weeks but I reckon mypo may jump above mannum. Definitely A couple interesting games coming up and a lot could depend on if teams lose players down to the crows thru finals. I would hope that the players will stay loyal to there home clubs but if you know AFL clubs are watching you, it could pay of to play down there

Re: Riverland Football Chatter

Was passing through loxton on my way back too adelaide so thought I would stop in an have a look at the local footy loxton v waikerie.
The two blokes umpiring should be on report an trained properly I've seen a lot of country footy but that was by far the worst I've seen they controlled the game from the first bounce they had way too much input on the game
They seem more interested in telling young kids to move away from the boundary line, and what supporters are saying from the sidelines than concentrating on their own performance. The way they are going no one will want to go to the footy. I know umpiring numbers are low and we have to look after them, but they do get paid well to do the job of umpiring , not crowd control.
I happened to talk to someone from the EP a few weeks ago that watched one of our games and they said that they will never complain about their umpires again. We need to bring in more interleague umpire exchanges, and even bring in umpires from Adelaide to lift the standard. I`m not going to comment on how they umpired the game yesterday as I don`t want to take away from Loxton's great performance. They were much better than a side who is sitting on the bottom of the table, and I expect them to cause a few more upsets if they play with the same intensity and method as they showed yesterday.

Umpires don't determine the outcome of games but poor decisions and inconsistency confuses and frustrates the players, and can shift momentum, and momentum does shape results. The best umpires are the ones who call the obvious ones then put the whistle away on the iffy ones allowing the game to go and flow. I reckon if the umpires did more of that they wouldn't cop the abuse from players and spectators.

Not sulking Banker - just very p**sed off at TV getting more points, having less prep time than TV and seeing clubs play in the top tier with absolutely substandard facilities.

We knew the rules going in - but this doesn't make them any fairer as the junior club points are skewed towards the bigger clubs as a safety mechanism.

If we were given the same opportunity as all current Central sides then I would have a different view - but we weren't and I am sure in the same situation
your opinion would be similar.

Settle down girls, your all going to be alright!

I think Mypo have stuffed up last week and will receive another pasting this week. Even the quality ins for them wont have enough affect as the Bears are the form team of the comp. Bears by 47pts

I also think Imps may get up over Mannum as they don't get paid double time on Sundays so their imports will only put in a half baked effort. Imps by 17pts

In the Ressies, I think we can get the job done but Meningie have a pretty decent side so don't want to under estimate them. As for the sunday game, who cares? Its a clear 3 horse race but I think the Bluds will get over the line

Hope your right Biff and our boys can back up last wks effort with another win. Bears by 20 points

Also think last wks result will be much the same for Mannum and I think they will get the job done. Mannum 19 points

In the Ressies, I think tomorrow's game will be a ripper and would love to see our boys hold the pressure on like they did a month ago and get the job done, but with Muffy and Girardi back in I think that may be just enough to get ramblers over the line. Ramblers by 11 points

And for Mypo v Jervois. I think with Jervois As out, they may have snuck a couple down after some discussions regarding there top 21. And this will be enough for them. Jervois by 15 points

Meningie give midfield supply to buckets Jed Durdin and the Bhudda and they will be really hard to stop. Good luck boys still love ya both. :D

Re: River Murray Football League talk

Is that not a tad strange after a loss? Must be pretty confident about this week.

Re: HFL Central Division

I have never heard so much crap in regards to relegation in all my life. Why don't you blokes get a life. I told you 6 weeks ago there will be an 11 team central division next season with major changes in 2016. Lofty will come up no-one will go down and there will be an 8 team country division. Was always gonna be after last years fiasco. Nairne aren't ready to come up next season and amalgamation of some clubs will take place in 12 months time.
Lets talk more about finals now and forget all this by law crap. Odds on Uraidla for the flag now - clearly 6-7 goals better than anyone - as they where at the start of the year.

Re: HFL Central Division

Double Demon Grand Final!
Looks set to be the first league in Australia to demote a grand final side
That would be genuinely embarrassing for the HFL.

This 11-team comp stuff would surely only work if the clubs rule in favour and not the league; lets just hope the misery of losing to a better team on the day doesn't decide which way a couple will go.

At any rate pretty bloody amazing stuff!
Looking on sporting pulse Echunga have achieved a grand final place with the inclusion of two recruits, two senior colts, a b'grade from barker and the return of Harland and Liston. And they said it couldn't be done....

Re: Great Southern Football League

What a great day last Saturday at myponga a great tough victory to the mighty strath roosters.
You guys are right it wasn't the best spectacle game with heaps of ball ups 35 in one qtr it is believed, but one positive was the umpires didn't call ticky touch frees. It was a real high pressured game that flowed backwards & Fwds between each teams half fwd lines. Strath went in at half time under the pump after only getting 3 inside 50s for the 2nd qtr & Marc Elliott missing two simple shots running in to open goals. The game opened up & Marc Elliott redeemed himself after being put in the middle & kicked 4.3 for the day. Simon Munn was very close to being best on ground with some crucial goals & touches when the game was on the line. Congrats to jordy hall I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't have known or rated this kid at the start of the year but he is a freakish talented kid who has just won his 2nd a grade gf plus named in team of the year & best on in the gf. A few big days of celebrations have been had this week I'm sure the national dog trials enjoyed our support at the club sunday. Thanks to myponga footy club for being great hosts on the day everything seemed to run without any glitches.
Bring on 2015 will be interesting reading the rumours over the off season.

Re: 2014 premiership tipping competition - COUNTRY LEAGUES..

My apologies I haven't worked out/announced winner yet - I have been busy moving house the last few weeks - I will endeavour to get this comp sorted out soon.

Re: River Murray Football League talk

Nothing sour. Just fact. You can paint anyway you like. You were gifted a flag.

Bit exaggerated Dic. You can have all the points and $ in the world but you still need to be able to put it together. The thing it is alarming for me is that the last two years has seen Mannum and Meningie win a flag. But to do so over Imps and Ramblers they needed 18 points and whole load of cash. Shows how hard it is to compete with them and with Imps getting 9 points I think they will be back at the top.

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

Rumour has it young Jamie good from mallala has been offered apprenticeships by 2 different clubs (Clare & eudunda) to come play for then.. Must be poaching young talent for the future

Not a bad way to go, kids has to stay there for at least 3 years, by that time, he will be good mates with all the lads at whatever club it is, he wont want to leave.

So whilst its not good for Mallala, its a sensible recruiting drive, and to go with that, that club wouldn't have to fork out big $$$ on the footy side of things you would imagine.

Re: 2014 premiership tipping competition - COUNTRY LEAGUES..

It looks like grasshopper and Muffler both finished with 4 correct predictions - (if anyone notices any errors in my calculations, please PM me).

In order to break the tie, I'll do some further calculations in coming days, to see which of the 2 leaders came closest when taking into account predicted margins.

Re: HFL Central Division

LGIL knew you would bite. I actually run a very successful well known business that has been established 15 years. There is a saying a fool and his money are soon parted. Your club are obviously foolish as is the predicament they have themselves in. If you have to pay or are willing to pay these clowns the money your club does pity you. What do you get out of it ..... a h.......... on ??? Simple minds.

I never said I agree with some of the money being thrown around, what I disagree with more however is self appointed gods in the city where there is an abundance of players, dictating to clubs in small country towns about how much they can entice players with. For some of these towns the football club is the only real social and entertainment activity that is available. The people living there do not have masses of restaurants, nightclubs, AFL games etc to spend their money, rather they invest their money in the local team instead of just relying on the locals. How dare we suggest that they should give up their club as some are suggesting.

Re: HFL Central Division

The import rule in essence is the points system is it not? It limits the amount of imports you have. Without players attracting points the prices will still be the same as now as its supply and demand.

I think the country clubs/associations should band together to stand against the SANFL and SAAFL from using these bullying tactics. How many players from the country have moved down to Adelaide for work/uni and signed up at a city club? Hundreds of thousands.

Who are they to tell clubs that they are not allowed to try and recruit the best players they possibly can to their club!

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

My view is that finishing bottom is acceptable if the club fosters a community environment that is inclusive to those who live there. If the family enjoys going to their sport on Saturdays, does a club really need to throw around volunteer/donor generated money for their own self indulgence?

Let's not forget senior footy is a competitive sport, it's not really acceptable to finish bottom.

Re: HFL Central Division

Sorry for bombing the HFL page, perhaps it needs its own thread on this topic!

What the salary cap will do is destroy competitions like KNTFL, RMFL, GSFL, YPFL etc etc as those clubs will not be able to attract a certain calibre of player for $500 for the travel. Fact. Are they going to reduce the metro competitions to a $200 salary cap to keep the other affiliated leagues at least able to compete in the market for high quality players? why not be smart and have a salary cap geographically focused whilst keeping the points system. Anything over 100km affords extra $300 per 100km. Say Bordertown, 3 hours travel (close to 300km?) attracts $600 giving them $1100 to attract some players within their point allocation.

Re: River Murray Football League talk

Yes biffboy last week in the advertiser full page article with the headline could do jail time , I took a photo of it it was that hillarious, biffboy you say what tailem will have to spend to keep up with Meningie, well meningie are only spending that much to keep up with the two Murray bridge teams who have plentiful player stock to choose from , do you get that!! So I dont expect a rambler supporter who needs less recruits to be competitive to agree, as it would benefit your club with salary restrictions, tailem shouldn't have to spend as much as Meningie as they are an hour closer to the toll gate! Two if you go both ways, so they should be able to get players a bit cheaper, but you have to choose the right recruits, as Meningie have been spending money for years but now they have got the right mix, clubs with small populations need to pay money to get good players to compete with the big clubs , or should they just except that the bridge teams are gonna win every year and just except it, in England third division soccer players get hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and people just except it, obviously soccer is a world wide sport so that contributes, just so I dont miss anyone in my rant as far as sanfl is concerned they have been under paying players for the last decade, instead of complaining about the money in the country how about raising the sanfl payments, they are a joke !!! They expect players to commit six nights a week And compete against crows and power listed players who are full time professionals then pay some players like three hundred before tax and then if they get dropped to the reserves get like 80 bucks, if your husband or son can get a thousand a game and commit one or two nights a week compared to six , what would you advise them to do, if you are to old to get drafted why the hell would you do it, if the sanfl doesn't want to be the premier comp in the state keep paying what your paying and the kntfl can take over, don't try and bring another Competitio down because your not stepping up to the plate, why do people have a problem with players who risk there bodies and livelihoods to play one of the most dangerous games in the world from making some good money. if your lucky u might get ten years of some extra coin, don't hate the players hate the game!!!! As far as who wins the flag next year I hope whoever is the most proactive in recruiting and improving there performance wins!!
