Re: Are you ok?

Doing it tough at the moment lads, doling it tough. Daughter has been in Victoria with her boyfriend for two weeks, comes back tonight, goes into 14 day isolation.

At this point :

Do we assume she is carrying the virus and we lock her down and we all go into lock down with her? I suspect any cleaning/infection control measures we put in place won't stop her passing it onto us ( if she has it ).

Do we assume she isn't carrying it and we just lock her in her room, clean like mad bastards and go about or normal business? This feels socially irresponsible and it feels like we are, in more ways than one, isolating her. She faces challenges in her own mind without being put in this position. I feel like doing this is an injustice to her and socially irresponsible.

I'm lost.

All in all a Dad just wants to give his girl a hug and at best I'm two weeks from doing that.

Re: Are you ok?

Those who know me will know that I've had a pretty rough couple of days.

My old man was in a serious motorbike accident yesterday, during a memorial ride for a late member of their club. Have any of you ever heard the phone ringing, and just knew it was bad news?

Unfortunately the passenger on the other bike lost her life yesterday, and my dad is still in ICU. Dad's partner (and passenger on his bike) and the rider of the other bike suffered non-life threatening injuries. My younger sister and youngest brother raced to the Royal Adelaide, and all I was told was that his left leg was ******, and he was having what ended up being a 6 hour surgery to put steel and screws in it. He was placed in an induced coma last night.

So I went to visit him this morning, and I don't think I've ever been as floored, seeing him like that. The nurse said he was heavily sedated, but that he could possibly hear me if I wanted to talk to him. **** me, what do I say?

Due to the COVID-19 stuff, from now on only one person is allowed to see him for the duration of his stay. I figure he'll be in there a while. My brothers and sister decided that our youngest brother would be that person from now on, and that we'd all take turns to go with him for support.

On top of that, my wife is due back from overseas on Wednesday, and we'll have to deal with her being in self-isolation.

Much love brother.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

Honest question as I don't understand why, but why is the stimulus package giving 2 x $750 handouts to welfare and dole recipients when ultimately people who are working are the most affected as they will be losing their jobs?

I'm sure I've missed something here and not trying to be insensitive.

Might be thinking they're more likely to spend it back in the economy rather than put it towards a mortgage etc.

Whilst I think the money should be siphoned into people who have lost their jobs I get the reasoning.

At this point people on Newstart, in the main ( drug users/gamblers aside ) have very little disposable income. This package is designed to get them out spending that money and stimulating the economy. I see what they're doing.

Me, being as cynical as I am, just figure KFC and the local drug mule will profit from this, not the small business' that it's designed to support, the cafes, the local butcher, the local green grocer etc.

Got offered a role working at the BWS at Arndale.s
Thinking I'll turn it down as
a) other casuals in my line of work would need it a lot more than me
b) I would rather continue to self isolate as my missus and daughter both suffer from immune deficiencies and the chance of picking up the disease in a place like Arndale would be pretty high

It was good that Woolies are looking after their staff like this and I feel like a bit of a prick for turning it down but I think its the right decision.

Re: AFL 2020 Season

Are the AFL players allowed to get jobs to supplement their income whilst they’re on reduced wages?
I know most of them won’t need to but some 1st or 2nd year players may need to.
Does their contract allow it?

Seeing they are getting a charmed run here they should be put into the Centrelink Call Centres to listen into the conversations the employees are hearing to get a dose of reality.
When the AFL does get up and running it would be nice if no supporters went to the first week of games (what's 1 more week after 3-6 months of no footy!). It would send a nice message to the players that the money is there because of supporters, not the other way around.

Yes, but the club is now closed due to the coronavirus and doesn't have any income.

I understand that, gazza's point was people in the area don't have $20 to spare to give the club, they do, they just choose to put it into something else and to be blunt it would be put to much better use giving it to the club than it would be throwing it away on shit, pokies especially.

Re: PAFC 150th Anniversary

Any of you watch the "Onward to Victory" doco on Sunday?
Caught bits towards the tail end, as they were going through the 1990 controversy and pre-Port Power stuff. Like Bum Crack, this was less appealing to me, although seeing highlights of KG getting mobbed at Alberton in that game against against Westies brought back memories - I remember listening on the radio to the scores around the grounds, and hearing that there was almost a riot down there.

I'll have to track it down to see the earlier footage and interviews from the 50s through to the mid-80s (is it still available on Channel 7?), more up my alley.

Yep, I think it's on the C7 catch up app.

I was sitting in the Williams Family Stand looking to my right as KG made his way down from the commentary box and watched him walk across the front of the stand to leave. There was not one eye on the game at that point, around 15,000 from memory looking at the heaving crowd in front of the stand.

We lived in Brooklyn Park and only rarely stayed back for after match presentations, we stayed that night and couldn't even get into the downstairs bar let alone the upstairs function. The place was electric, in fact I'd say it rivals any game I've ever been to as far as the "buzz" around the ground went. Unbelievable.

Hairs on the back of my neck just stood up thinking about it. :D

Re: 1981 SANFL season

Bagshaw
Seemed to be in slow motion but just his balance and poise and at the same time just committed to the footy. Compared to Ebert he seemed more languid but to see him at pace drill blokes with stab passes, skill personified . Once again you could see him playing as the swing/outside mid.

Rebounding precision passes from the half back, release from defence as a mid or the 3rd fourth tall forward with his marking ability . So versatile for todays game. Would star.
Never saw Bagshaw play, but from what I've heard and seen in old footage there seems to be some parallel between him and Darren Jarman, in terms of the overall skills factor, the sometimes casual ease with which he would operate in heavy traffic, and the ability to play as a forward. Bagshaw probably more inside the Jarman was.

I'm glad you didn't say he was hungrier than Jarman.

Re: SANFL Clubs

I'm not buying that, how many people would have dropped $20 in the pokies over the last 12 months in the area? How many would have dropped $20 in Grand Central itself?

You have to keep in mind that a high percentage of regular pokie players probably have no interest in Centrals the football club and only go there because of the facility itself.

Those people dropping $20 in the pokies most likely have no reall concern for Centrals long term and will just go and drop $20 at the elizabeth tavern, Red Lion, Midway.

My point was saying "there's no disposable income" in the area isn't true. Like many lower socio economic areas go into a KFC/Macca's/HJ's and tell me people aren't throwing splash money around.
ok, now go and ask them to cough up $140 for a season ticket to a sports club that isn't playing sports.

That's not what the club is asking for though, $20 donations will all add up.

Mine included.

I think for people in construction March and April will be somewhat ok because people have committed to that expenditure. It will be on the other side of this will people/businesses looking to hold money and be trying to recover.

If construction isn't halted ( by a lockdown ) I think it will be one industry that doesn't get hit too hard. Anything that is already signed off on will go ahead and anything nearly finished will be.

My only concern is 12 months from now but to be honest I was already worried about that.

what if you're still working?

I think you'd have to demonstrate "financial hardship" by providing income assessments.
Exactly. That's why they should give EVERYONE 8 weeks off whether you are working or not and it's your choice whether you put it back into your mortgage during that time. The money that would get injected back into the economy would be massive. Better than any stimulus package.

How is money getting injected into the economy?

Re: Things that make you sad.

Little old bloke who drank at my local, lived alone, had been in shocking health for several years. Had a hip replacement, it came out three or four times, had it done again, same thing.

A few of us pitched in and braved some pretty ordinary conditions about 12 months ago and went to his house for a working bee and gave his house the clean it desperately needed. Fair to say he wasn't taking very good care of himself.

When the pubs closed I feared for him a bit, knew it would be tough on the old bugger, firstly the 6 pints he had every afternoon with his daily doubles and the contact it gave him with other people would be gone.

He was found a couple of days ago by the district nurse after having a stroke and being there for a day or two on his own, he passed away last night.

Rest easy little Bazz, I'll have a daily double later and a pint in your memory.

If you go to games, be it some or all, check where your team was playing that weekend and donate the $15 entry you would have paid to that club.

The life changing outcome is that, next time, we won't take two goddamn months to shut the border.

Agree.

Also introducing the 14 days isolation period for people returning from overseason. I think that will be in place a little bit more often for certain nations at certain points in time. Once again not a bad thing imo.

I think it might be in place permanently for some countries.
