Re: Cancel Culture

No, there is no prize for being captain empathy, only wasted emotion.

Empathy has historically been viewed by men as a negative emotion. It was always viewed as a feminine trait, therefore negative, so fathers raised sons to be devoid of it. And the cycle repeats. It's a topic for another thread, but as fathers, it's up to us to break that cycle and play a key role in preventing male suicide, male on male violence, beating women with chopping boards, and in extremely worst case scenarios gunning down 51 people in a mosque.

Re: COVID-19

Weird to hear this suggestion of "mercenaries".

I've been consistently led to believe on this site that players want to play in the BLG for it's superior atmosphere.

Weird that's no longer the case
Some are mercenries, see players at South Gawler that change clubs every year

The right ones play for the atmosphere and keep returning to the same club year afyer year, pay or no pay, see Tanunda, Nuri Angaston
Good to see you casually throw angaston in there. Had 1 good year and coincidentally the same year the cheque book opened. I'm sure borholm summerton and Shannon signed on for the atmosphere. Good luck to clubs that can afford to outlay that much money each year but no one is buying the play for atmosphere crap. I speak to bomber regularly and I'm sure he'll tell me he loves it so much he can't wait to play for free again in 2021 because of the atmosphere. In fact not sure he's getting $0 in 2020.

These clubs have been blatantly breaching the salary cap when there was one, no reason they won't continue to do so in spite of the new rule for 2020

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

Are you unable to outline what the link is between the BLM protest and the spread of the virus to housing estates? The protest was held on 6 June and on 1 July Acting Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Professor Paul Kelly declared that there were no links between the BLM protest and the current clusters. The Australian are now reporting there is a link, although they are very vague on what the link is. Is there evidence of anyone, who was Covid free, attending the BLM protest and contracting the virus at the protest, then passing the virus on to other members of the community i.e. people in those housing estates. Or could the link be less sinister. e.g. a person attended the BLM protest Covid free, contracted the virus several days after attending the protest and then passes it on to other members of the community.

The Australian is lying yet again and they have no evidence to back their claims. The article deliberately misrepresents the attendance by at least a factor of 10 (was more like 100 to 200K, not 10K). If the BLM protest with 100K+ in attendance was responsible for community transmission of a virus - with a 7-14 day incubation period - then there would have been exponential growth of positive cases several weeks ago.

Look past the Murdoch lies and it's pretty simple:
- 6 people who protested have been infected
- No evidence any of them acquired it at the protest
- None live in a major housing complex

Re: Abbott/Liberal Govt Watch

Easily the most corrupt Aus govt in history, the Morrison govt has given another shining display of that corruption.

They established a National Covid Coordination Commission to advise on the response to the economic crisis but stacked it with gas & mining executives. The NCCC then recommended the Govt subsidise new pipelines for a 'gas led recovery" and then today the Govt announced that they would underwrite a Hunter gas power plant (nevermind that AEMO in it's ISP saw no need for additional gas capacity this decade and that a new build would be a stranded asset by the time it comes online).

No lump sum. Your weekly wage will be adjusted to the new tax rate and the back-dated adjustment will likely be paid pro-rata rather than claimed in the FY21 tax return.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

Sky news, the only one reporting the truth.
Peta Credlin is all over the lying wanker. She is one of only a few that are asking the right questions and Andrews isnt handling it. Im sure he wants to ban her from his press conferences. Very obvious that Andrews was responsible for the security bungle. He not only should lose his job he should be in jail and thats being kind.

Well, then surely Colbeck should be in jail for the Aged Care disaster?

Surely there is a nutter in Victoria that can get close enough to take him out.

I thought this thread reached peak idiot two months ago, yet here you are suggesting that the Premier be assassinated

Are you defending Andrews? its clear he is a lying piece of shit 100% responsible for the deaths of 700 plus Victorians from the security scandal. Aged care wouldve been fine had security guards not spread it.
There is also no justification for the lockdown to continue. You should be very worried about what he is doing there because the same thing will happen here if we have an outbreak.
And yes it is clear he isnt giving up his job and nobody has the power to remove him, he is the most dangerous man in the country and should be eliminated.

Aged Care is a Federal responsibility and the RC found that Federal planning for the outbreak was entirely insufficient. More than 2000 residents of aged care homes have contracted the virus and 665 have died, 635 of which were in Victoria - that has been determined as the responsibility of the Federal Govt.

Also, new research is about to be published that states:

An analysis of the two waves of COVID-19 outbreaks in Victoria suggests that the slower lockdown on the second wave, which was not implemented until cases hit 143, compared with just 17 cases for the first lockdown, is likely to be why the second outbreak was 10 times bigger than the first. The authors suggest an early epidemic alarm mechanism based on the number of daily confirmed cases, along with maintaining high face mask use, should help minimise the risk of further major outbreaks.

So yes, I would hope that if a second outbreak occurred here that we would be much quicker to enter lockdown.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

Jeezus. As much political point scoring going on here as there is in parliament

Fairly obvious to anyone with half a brain that the State and Fed LNP have been colluding with Murdoch media to undermine the Vic health response to the second wave this entire time.
Do you think the Andrews Government has no fault in this & it's totally the fault of the Morrison federal government. And please don't give the typical politically correct response you usually give. A yes or no will do
Personally, I place the blame/fault entirely on the security people that couldn't keep their d**** in their own pants

Of course not. I stated a couple of pages back there had been massive flaws in contact tracing method (State) and security in high risk areas (Aged Care - Federal).

I don't particularly care for Andrews and have large issues with the way he used police to enforce a health directive (great example was using police rather than health professionals as primary method for countering outbreak in the housing towers, not to mention weighting deployment of police to meter out fines in low-socio economic and socially vulnerable suburbs).

But it has been fascinating to watch the approach Murdoch media take to the situation in Victoria and compare that to their, say, apologetic nature to the corruption of NSW Premier or Ruby Princess debacle. There's been over 300K signatures for a petition to have an RC in Murdoch undue influence on our democracy, so I'm probably not alone in these observations - https://www.aph.gov.au/petition_list?id=EN1938

Not the point. We don't actually know whether James voted red or blue. The point is there is definitely voter fraud.

While I agree that is fairly clear evidence of fraud, I wouldn't put it past the republicans to have done this themselves* to further create doubt over the mail-in ballots.

*I'm not saying as well, I'm saying this very example was done by them!!!

For what its worth, out of 150,000,000 votes I'd be shocked if there isn't 10,000 examples of things done poorly, incorrectly, etc.

The 'dead voter' conspiracy has been debunked - if this person is actually dead, their vote won’t count. If the b'day is entered wrong, it will be resolved by a local clerk when the vote is audited.

I saw Donald Trump’s presidency come crashing down at Four Seasons Total Landscaping

It began, as all good 2020 capers do, with a tweet from the president of the United States. It ended with his personal lawyer in the parking lot of a landscaping company, struggling to be heard over a man in his underpants shouting about George Soros.

I like Grant Stevens .... he mostly remains calm and his messaging is consistent. He did get irate this morning when continually pressed that all people who support the Medi Hotels should be isolated. The SA police dept, to date, have been very level headed in the way they have policed restrictions. That said, I think the people who support the Medi Hotels should be tested more regularly than one week, but that is not a police decision.

In all seriousness though if we absolutely all in on ensuring public safety should people who support the Medi Hotels not also stay at the hotel for the length of their employment there. Pay them a mint like you do FIFO workers and the risk would be significantly negated.

Broader questions need to be asked about rapidly declining wage growth and increasing casualisation of workforce in recent years and why people need to work 2 or 3 insecure jobs just to put food on the table.

Priorities.

People put food on the table with their 2nd or 3rd jobs because they use their first job to go on hoildays to bail, top up the 4 gabling apps they have on their phones and the fact they buy a $4,95 take away coffee every day because it makes a good picture for their instagram feed.
Not sure if serious?

Serious in terms of people don't set their priorities or priorities have changed.

Those are just some of many examples.

Kids having their own bedrooms, wearing your siblings hand-me-downs, families eating out or getting take away several times a week instead of cooking at home. Everyone having the internet, foxtel, netflix, the latest iphone, etc.

Choosing to have these things is fine, choosing lots of them and then complaining you don't have spare money is not.

Society is changing, thats fine, but to expect to have spare money like our parents is unrealistic IMO.

It is not unreasonable to question the declining wage growth, declining living standards and increasing insecurity of work.
