Re: SAAFL division 5 2014

I'm with Boosh....happened to me at Havens and boosh too. Robbed of a GF due to the salisbury west debarcle. They got dropped back and were a very good(div3 easy) at that time side..... leaving Havens in 3rd.

I think this situation is really tricky because if you drop a side back it often messes with the promotion/relegation principle....especially this late. Welldone for glenunga taking the opportunity but all the other div 5 sides...well I guess time will tell. I think teams that forfeit their div should start in lowest grade...but thats unfair too....why cant they just stay put in div 4?? thatis an actual query too...would like to know the politics.

on a good note for glenunga...Havens hd an opportunity to stay up a few years back and took it and played finals, but if they had ofdropped back...possibly a flag.........always a gamble....good luck rams

That "salisbury west debacle" was a bit different from a club asking to stay down .

It would be interesting to see what the league looks when deciding to approve a request from a club to stay down.

The difference being the undomesticated Londonberry Lads were penalized for their indiscretions by getting handed a premiership from the SAAFL while the other 9 clubs were penalized by having them there. TTG last year from Div 6 to Div 8 had no bearing on the season, lets hope it's the same in Div 5 this year

Re: Rnd 3 Post Match - Eagles v Power

Biggest thing I took out of the day was the distinct lack of emotion of Paul Stewart when he finally managed to slot a goal today, a piss weak high five to a team mate like he was embarrassed to kick one against his former club

The Club that devloped him as a Junior into the AFL listed player he is, you mean...

Eagles or AFL, hmmmm tough decision

Re: Rnd 3 Post Match - Eagles v Power

R.I.P SANFL

Sick of this reference. The Sanfl died years ago in terms of standard, probably due to excessive money in country leagues and the growing popularity in soccer. If an Sanfl side can't beat a bunch of talented kids who have only played against boys and underdone/out of form AFL players then the standard is shit. 10 years ago an afl reserves side would not get within 10 goals of a top 5 League side.

Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

I think I can sum it up this way
From the people I've talked to about Port Reserves being 1870-2013 or 1870-2014+

NON PORT BARRACKERS
About 95% say Port Reserves is a new team in the SANFL

PORT BARRACKERS
About 50% say Port 2014 are still Port Adelaide 1870+

I say its a new team
All past records from 1870-2013 should be put in the archives

Just one more observation
Crows barrackers accept that the Crows reserves is the Crows reserve team in the SANFL
Why don't Port barrackers ?

Well what else could they be ?

The Power isn't just a idea concocted in Max Basheer's pool room. They are a push from the most successful SA football club to expand into the highest comp in the land (crows fans can thank them for that) to say they should abort their history is garbage. Magpies, Power, Wharfies, Scumbags or whatever the nickname they are all products of the PAFC and it's history. Call it Power reserves if you want, it's still the PAFC.

Re: Worst excuse for missing a game

Played with a few blokes that pulled out the morning of a game as they hadn't been to bed yet

I should of done that in my 200th for the club. Had to get the wife to drive me to the game, was seeing double out on the field, tripping over my own feet. What made it worse was it was a 2.15 game and the coach made me captain for the day. I came good after a beer after the game

Yep because you know more about what tex is like as a captain than his teammates and opponents...

For someone learning English as his second language one must agree he does quite well.

Absolutely no outcome on the game but Jesus the crows have had a good ride tonight.

Agreed, very embarrassing thought I was watching a game from Subi.
Tuned back just in time to see Walker thieve Lynch of his 4th goal, poor form I thought from the skipper.

Lol you Port lads only care about the umpires

I especially take note of Crow games to keep a couple of old crow codgers I work with in check, the umps are all they can talk about.
That would of been them booing the umps whilst 9 goals up late in the game.

Re: Round 9

So is it about the money or the players. It's pretty hard to fit a squad of 45 players into 22 is my educated guess why they are playing SANFL, not to mention the fact they're not quite up to the level yet. If you're hanging your hat on a couple of players making a difference then the standard of the league may be worse than I thought . Just guessing but I reckon the money recieved from the AFL clubs would offset a couple of 30k transfers (highly inflated considering weekly match payments)

A) Set up in a reserves comp then if it is such a problem for you.
B) In that case, just send Wingard and Pittard over to Carlton. No transfer fees applicable, and it is only a couple of players, if that makes any difference then the standard at Port is much worse off than I thought.

A) IMO a reserves comp could be worse off for the SANFL clubs and survival would be even harder
B) Totally different, there's around 100 draftees per season entering the AFL from many leagues, you're saying that the AFL clubs should pay a transfer fee for every player. Like it or not the SANFL is a feeder comp for the AFL, I understand people don't like change but most of the players are playing there for one reason only, time to accept it for what it is
To be sure, our specific complaint is about two reserve entities operating in our league under different rules to us, and an agenda other than winning.
This is being highlighted by reference to transfer fees. It would be exactly the same as Carlton suddenly taking two of your better players and just handing them to another club to be used against you.
You would find these complaints would evaporate as soon as you took your reserve side out of the SANFL.
So if you would be totally cool with handing two of your better players to a rival club for no compensation, then you would have grounds to tell us that it is a fair system.
The problem here is that there are two reserve teams competing with eight fair dinkum passionate clubs, whose chief motive is winning, rather than practice. There are so many of these irregular quirks that we tend just to say "compromised", so of course we will discuss the actual examples when they turn up also.

The same people that tell me Port Magpies are there for practice only and don't care about winning are the same people that tell me Port Power only recruit SANFL players to improve their Magpies side. That sounds like a contradiction to me.

Re: Falling Attendances

Did a quick scan of crowds this year and it appears the top team the Eagles are bottom of the home match average crowds this year, even below West and not even half of what Norwood have been averaging.

No surprise, alot more appeal going to Norwood with bars and food in the area than the cold expanses of suburban Woodville. Adelaide Oval has changed the landscape for what people want out of going to the footy.
Norwood is a very nice venue. A lot of people I know at the footy these days will attend games at Norwood and possibly Glenelg, but would otherwise not attend away games.

Agreed. For me I enjoy going to the City to see a game of footy and have a few beers and a feed. I also enjoy more so going to my local amateur club having cheap beers and watching a good standard game then mingling with mates and players afterwards. IMO the SANFL is stuck in between and most clubs are going to find it hard to attract new supporters to such suburban areas.

Re: Finals Week 1

I'll change the subject for a second. I'll revisit my point earlier. The game to me was not finals intensity. The game was screaming out for someone just to be clean in a 50/50 contest and then hit a target. It was blokes playing safe footy and then Richmond rolled the dice. When someone finally was clean in the contest and hit some tit then goals were scored.

Do you want to hear that last night's game was of a superior finals intensity. Well sorry tonight's was more finals like for mine, regardless of skill level
