Re: Round 2 - predictions, live scores, results & shit canni

Pronounced "Doe-Dee" is being referred to as "Dildo" is it the junior primary school hour at SaFooty?

Not sure what primary you went to but that's a concern if you were talking Doedee's at that age.

The day you don't enjoy this humour is the day you wake up at 5 in the morning for no apparent reason, put on a striped polo, take your Shitzu for a walk on a 5m lead then load up on the salad bar down the local.

I backed Port today at very good odds, so am happy with the win
However, why is it just about every time I watch Sydney play they seem to get the worst of the 50/50 umpiring decisions ?

Every supporter thinks they the raw deal with the umps. I thought first half Sydney had a good run, we had the better run in the second.

I reckon Zac Guthrie has had 6 or 7 kicked on him directly he is simply not up to it.
I said to the missus before halftime he looks like a boy playing against men.
As for Hawkins, he is the modern day Rene Kink...

babow . Hawkins has played a key role in two Grand Final wins and has kicked the winning goal against the Hawks from outside 50 after the siren.

I was there from 9.30 for just over an hour, was busy. Listening to the conversations around, there was some hardcore music lovers there.
The CD's were definitely cheap, grabbed 2 new vinyl records that were on my list at a good price plus a few cheap 80's various hits for some boozy nights at home.

Re: SANFL Round 1

Commentators were saying 4,000

I think every SANFL team would have beaten the Cows today. Port not that good.

Lindsay still good at diving. FFS when will umpires wake up? Disgraceful.

Don't know what game you were watching but i didn't see Thomas dive once. All his head high frees were from getting to the ball first and staying low and putting it on the player to tackle low. Only instance were he wasn't low and first to the ball is in the southern pocket when he tapped the ball and got tackled high.
I'm happy to be proven wrong though.....

Agreed, definitely wasn't diving, stayed low like you said. Probably play on by the AFL new interpretation, not sure about SANFL interpretation.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

I think you'll find that millions of people shop at Woolies because that's what they can afford, not everyone can support their local independent's because their budget doesn't allow it. Poor example there Joe Hockey.

As for individual choice, the corporates aint telling 3 out of 4 youngsters to get tattoos, they do it because it's popular just like the AFL is popular because of better players and standard. You're not gonna watch Neighbours when you can watch The Sopranos.

The only reason there aren’t many Magpie supporters who don’t follow the Power anymore is coz they walked away altogether.
I know many old Magpie supporters who just walked away and don’t follow the Magpies(if that’s what you call them nowadays) in the SANFL anymore. Ahhh yes, nothing like personal anecdotes.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

I have been a Port Magpies fan since 1988 when I was 7 years old..I continue to support the Port Magpies and regularly attend the games but have not been a member since the Power amalgamation. I'm a Brisbane Lions fan in the AFL and have no affection for Port Power whatsoever. I never saw them as the same thing in 1997, especially when a number of the players of the time specifically tried to distance themselves from any Magpies heritage with comments that they made to the media.

Scott Hodges makes the same point in his recent book, explaining why to this day he continues to support Collingwood in the AFL. I strongly was against the AFL intrusion in the SANFL, however it has happened and it's now become the lesser of two evils to me if the alternative is no magpies at all. It's a sad state of affairs for us old Port fans, hating the AFL in SANFL but now having to hope for it to continue.. :(

You can't hang you're hat on that, all new players to all clubs need to be educated on their clubs history. Just remember that because the Power aren't black and white or called the magpies doesn't mean they're not Port Adelaide, born at Alberton not at SANFL headquarters upon some hard work and vision 7 years earlier. You don't knock someone for trying to seek promotion in the workforce nor should we knock the PAFC for wanting to prove themselves in the highest competition, whatever colours or name they might be.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

If Collingwood weren't in the AFL would we still be killing off magpies, I think not. My daughter gets married and changes her last name does it make her less entitled to the family's history or does it make us distant towards her because she has moved on from where she was born, I think not.

.............In My Opinion

I have pondered this question myself.
How would Amber and co. feel if the AFL version of Port were called the Magpies and not the Power, and played in their black and white prison bars?

Would there be any interest at all in maintaining a SANFL presence if that were the case?

I think Alex could answer that, I know a few people who can't get past the fact that Port aren't wearing black and white and aren't called the Magpies in the AFL so they don't support them. I'm not so sentimental, I'm comfortable in the fact that PAFC is represented in the AFL and had to change for obvious reasons

Jeez Selwood did have a big night

He’ll 100% get off.

They’ll appeal and win.
You'd hope so but with Geelongs track record it's hard to see. Fancy pushing a bloke who's just smashed your brother like a dog, I couldn't imagine anyone else doing that.

Don't have a problem with that it's the squealing like a pig to the umpire when the tide turns, been doing it his whole career. For the record I think Selwood is a great player and leader.

Re: State of the game

Chopping the arms needs to go, need to promote strong hands in the contest again. I also don't like players getting pinged for putting hands in the back to hold their ground, stronger players are getting penalised. The 50m for entering a protected area MUST go, ridiculously harsh penalty. Whatever changes are made if any, take as much grey area interpretation away from the umps as possible

Re: State game - SANFL v WAFL @ Adelaide Oval Sat. 12/5

If you are not AFL listed then you are not an AFL reserves player...this seems fairly obvious? I would expect a VFL state side to pick players from AFL aligned clubs so long as those selected were not on the AFL list.

Obvious to most but these guys bitterness is as strong now as it was 5 years ago. This is just another whinge thread. The AFL in terms of standards and rulings is the worst it has been and the SANFL has a great opportunity to attract new fans by displaying a positive playing style and simpler interpretation of the rules, what better way to promote than in front of spectators that wouldn't normally attend.
