Fair effort. Perhaps Gaz makes better use of the bounce than other spinners touring Australia. Still great numbers.

^that was the start of the issue, the Windies in the 80s. They didn't exact hurry either.

Was never an issue in 100 years of test cricket prior to that.

Re: Australian International Summer 2023/24

My issue is over this whole series he has been focused on these areas to a far greater extent than previous, and at the same time his form has dropped.
Coincidence?

Do you think that writing messages on his shoes/wearing an armband/writing an Instagram post is likely to result in a loss of form? E.g. do you think he forewent net sessions?

More to the point, what insight do you have into what Khawaja's "focus" is/was?

Re: Australian International Summer 2023/24

Wow... sweating a bit in the witness box here... guilty, for having an opinion.

Bit quick on the forward defensive stroke there mate - just asking why you've formed your view (in response to your post on an internet forum about it).

Uzzie has had several interviews expressing his views, and how he can circumnavigate the system to have his views made on the field.
He has also been robust in his feelings about pink ball tests.
This has coincided with his worst series since his return.

Gawd, I forgot the cardinal rules for this group:
Go hard and smash away at anything Smith, Labuschange and Warner do, but don't dare speak evil of Carey, Head or Uzzie.

I mean I'm way quicker to defend Smith and Warner than most on here. Definitely happy to criticise Uzzie where due as well. I just find it really hard to buy that doing a couple of interviews about international affairs would have an impact on Uzzie protecting his wicket when he arrives at the crease. As if, as the bowler's running in to bowl against him during a test match, he could be thinking of nothing so much as current political issues in the Middle East.

An average of 37 for the series is not a bad return by the way. (Did Trav express support for Uzzie? That may explain Trav's crap form??)

I would've thought that people would be a bit more circumspect with the whole 'not focusing on cricket' nonsense after the Captain Woke winning the World Cup episode, but alas.

Re: NIGHT SERIES

Was the Escort Cup in the early to mid 1980s played in the pre-season or were they midweek during the season?

I think the latter stages generally occurred a few weeks into the season. But the format varied. @spell_check would have some idea.

The final in 1983 was definitely some weeks into the season, I think in May.

Torrens won the final on a Tuesday then backed up away to a strong Norwood side four days later and played reasonably well, albeit losing.

Re: I need to know....

The answer is there is no easy way. The lawyer would always retain a copy (or alternatively the original if they offer that service and the client is happy with that) but there's no public 'will register' or anything like that.

Solicitors who hold wills for clients generally keep a list so they can quickly find out whether they have a particular will or not - but if you don't know who the solicitor was then I'm not sure what you'd do.

Re: Things that make you sad.

Yup, grabbing the takeaway is often the easy choice, but it is where you can bleed money.

Don't get me wrong, saying 5 BBQ chickens a week for $62.50 was an over simplification, but for people to suggest $12.50 isn't enough for a dinner aren't really trying imo.

EG:

Woolies do a BBQ pack, 8 snags, 4 burgers, $10.50, plus a loaf of bread, and that's two dinners for $15.00 total.
Frozen pizza and a bag of wedges is under $12.00
A 400g rump steak will cost you around $10.00
500g mince meat ($9.00) + Jar of pasta sauce ($4.50) + packet of spaghetti ($3) will do you two meals for $16.50 total.

No greens or any type of salad or veg? What are you eating the following week? Will be a blimp after eating this for a few weeks Yeah apart from everything else, the lack of fresh vegetables and weekly junk food don't exactly augur well - no use being able to afford a house if you're heart's exploded in the process of saving!!

Re: Albanese Labor Govt Watch

Bi elections

No need for them
Unless a reasonable explanation for leaving whoever the opposition is in that seat gets it.

I agree that many of them are pointless and the retiring member ought to fill the bill rather than the taxpayer. However...

Who determines what is a 'reasonable explanation'?
Who is the 'opposition in that seat'? E.g. in 2022 there were four candidates for Scomo's seat other than him (ALP, GRN, PHON, UAP). Gets even more complicated when independents are involved.

Not that we should take anything away from the Windies' performance, but if anything it's our batsmen who should cop the criticism.

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2023/2024

As mentioned yesterday, Brazell is not ready. Had an ordinary year for TTG and Second X1. Threw him to the wolves.

Trying to turn JFM into Warner not going to work .

^^^^^^^^^^

This

The comparisons you regularly here to Warner astonish me.

When Warner debuted for NSW in the One Dayers he was raw and brash but he also was still fairly compact, had a solid defensive technique and was solid either side of the wicket. For mine Warner was more about getting his shot selection and decision making right whilst he understood batting at different paces.

Warner was also scoring big time runs in the Sydney two-day comp as well, IIRC. Practically had to bash the door down before getting a Shield call-up.

Ideal leadership group:

1 captain

All other experienced (e.g. 150+ game) players are expected to demonstrate leadership qualities on and off field

The idea of formally designating a "leadership group" is corporate wank IMO.

He earned the right to hit the winning runs.
Regardless of what he says to us ALL test players covet 3 figures.
Cummins should've made him get the runs.....unless he's got a broken finger from the one that hit him. However remote the chances may have been, you can't risk winning a test series so that one bloke can get his 100.

He needed 2 runs FFS, there's no way we were losing.
Block out the over and let Carey either get out or hit the winning score.
Pretty ordinary from Cummins.

The fact that you contemplate Carey getting out suggests the game wasn't over.

Again, very low probability, but not unheard of at all for the last 3 wickets to fall for no runs - and if that happened after there were runs for the taking, we would be the laughing stock of world cricket for the next 9994 years.

Re: Things that give you the sh1ts

How does daylight saving affect you in March?

By turning the best mornings of the year into dark shitholes.
By not following the natural flows of the changing of the seasons.
By turning up to work feeling very dull.
By going against natural bio-rythms
By creating a certain danger of more people going to work at darker/low-light times when kangaroos are active near roadways, especially during dry spells

There is still enough daylight to be doing things after work without it, so what benefit does it create.

Never seen someone so affected by daylight I'm affected by lack of daylight - the darkness till well after 6.30 a.m. this time of year gives me the sh1ts.

Retired In Peace in FC cricket
Stellar career, played for Aussies in all 3 formats
Overcame cancer as a teenager , and was colour blind

MT was right Not a superstar by any means, but those two centuries in the Ashes in England in 2019 were big. (Only Australian other than Steve Smith to notch any that series.) Deserves to be remembered forever on that alone.
