Re: Reserves - PAFC accepts invite from SA Football Commissi

Given that Port Adelaide Football Club is now the 1 Club why does it still have 2 Club Emblems?

Does it also have 2 different club songs?

Mine as well just call the magpies the power reserves and have the some song, same logo and same guernsey. We all know they aren't the magpies, stop trying to bluff us.

Re: Glenelg Senior Coach 2014

MEDIA RELEASE

Dedja set to make his mark at Glenelg

Former Snouts bandwagoner, Dedja, has been appointed to the position as Senior Coach of the Glenelg Football Club for the next three years.

Dedja was appointed by the Glenelg Football Club Board of Directors, following the strong recommendation by the highly credentialed Selection Committee, established to ensure the best possible coach was appointed to steer the club forward.

The selection committee undertook a comprehensive selection process in which Football Director Justin Scripps, Graham Cornes, Peter Carey and President Nick Chigwidden, were unanimous that Dedja was the man to coach the Club in 2014 and beyond, with a focus of recognising and developing our young list and maximizing their potential.

Dedja has SFA accomplishments but the club is broke so thought what the hell.

Dedja's wealth of talking crap at both AFL and SANFL levels, combined with his lack of general knowledge of the game and edumacation gives
the Glenelg Football Club great excitement and positiveness for the immediate and future direction.

Re: Rumours and Player Movement Discussions for 2014

Will Sturt pay the transfer fee for Giles to Centrals before paying the ones to Port this season?

Who would you have to pay the transfer fee to? Port Magpies dont exist anymore.
Surely any player leaving Port would be free since they are not required players and Port can not pay them their worth.
Why should the Power benefit from the sale of SANFL players?

Re: SANFL Draw

It is sickening seeing the Advertiser trying to hype up the round 1 game between Norwood and the port power reserves. Can norwood beat their old enemy now its full of power reserves talent they say Clearly they are giving the SANFL some attention as they see money in it. It alsmost sounds like some sort of exhibitiion game however...the best of the SANFL versus the port power reserves. This is an insult to the port v norwood rivalry to try and pass it off between a battle of traditional rivals. There is no way in gods green earth I will be attending. The SANFL directors have failed South Australian football fans miserably!

Re: Adelaide Crows Reserves 2014

But these players aren't getting in on a talent basis. They're going to be getting league games to fill some holes in the AFL Reserves sides. Sure some of them might be okay league footballers, but they're obviously not the best on offer; their payments reflect this. Either way, they're not getting picked on talent.

This is why it would have been much better if the AFL Reserves teams were in the SANFL Reserves . Nobody would mind if hacks were getting games there. I know the SANFL isn't what it was pre-1990, but that doesn't justify giving players league games who haven't earned them. This is what people meant when they were talking about 'integrity'.

The SANFL shouldn't be a development league - that should be for the U/18s or Reserves. In my mind, as soon as it becomes about development, or 'giving guys a chance' at league level, the SANFL loses its integrity. These things are not consistent with winning at all costs.

Would've been the sane option, to protect the integrity of league football, and, to give the Crows essentially what they were after. But of course, under the brinkmanship of Trigg, it was a case, allegedly, of knicking off to the SAAFL instead of accepting the Reserves option!

I've got no time for the plastic Adelaide Football Club and what it represents, but even less for some of their supporters who abandoned the SANFL when the circus came to town. They know who they are. They should hang their heads in shame.

Re: Adelaide Crows Reserves 2014

Wait, it's not ok for a club or league to think about it's own best interests? Isn't that what we are all asking to happen? For the SANFL to put themselves before the integrity of the AFL? Why is it one group shouldn't put themselves first and the others should? AFL clubs have done absolutely nothing wrong. Their officials are doing exactly what they should in getting the best they can for their club. I just wish the SANFL directors who voted yes did the same thing.

The Crows stood over the SANFL with veiled threats of withdrawing/limiting financial support and media interest. The Crows mouthpiece lied to the directors ("the vote must be unanimous for it to work"). And this is "absolutely nothing wrong"?

Reckon I'll teach my kid to extort lunch money from his classmates by making physical threats against their welfare. Clearly there is "absolutely nothing wrong" with this; if the other kids give up their lunch money then it's entirely their fault - they could have said no!

There is a nontrivial difference between rational self-interest and blind selfishness. The AFL clubs have pissed in the bed that they wish to sleep in; they might be acting in their own best interests, but without any consideration of the big picture or any long-term vision.

Re: Adelaide Crows Reserves 2014

Port Adelaide MAGPIES reserve will have the best 18 years old's that didn't get drafted to the AFL. Do you really think that a 18 year old that still wants to have a crack at AFL will want to play for norwood over Port. Having access to everything at a AFL club versus only having access to everything at a SANFL club. Sorry, how will they have access to "everything at a AFL club" if they're playing for the "Port Adelaide MAGPIES reserve[s]"?

Anyway, let's go through it all very slowly now:
1. The 18yo kid who's played Norwood from U/16s and played U/18s last year, is good. Missed getting drafted, and maybe not SANFL league good yet, but certainly reserves good, and could be good enough to push for league selection depending on performances in the 2nds.
2. Norwood obviously don't want to let him go.
3. So the only way he ends up at the Magpies is if he walks, and if Port Adelaide (on the current system) pay a transfer fee.
4. So, will he walk?
5. On the plus side, he gets a lot of talk about playing at an AFL club, having access to an AFL club's facilities, joining an 'academy' and playing for an 'academy team' ('cos that sounds so much more prestigious than joining a reserves squad and playing reserves), and living the dream of having a crack at AFL.
6. On the minus side:
• He will be training and playing with the 3rd tier group at the PAFC, and that fact will effectively be locked in for the whole year; he will be with the 2nd tier group at Norwood, and can instantly be promoted to the top tier if performances warrant it
• He is (barring an improbable run of injuries to the AFL list and the SANFL top-up list) guaranteed not to get a SANFL league game at PAFC. There are about 37 players guaranteed a SANFL league game before him (44 on AFL list + 15 league top-up - 22 AFL players picked each week). That's a massive whack of injuries required before he's even a theoretical chance; whereas Norwood can pick him for his SANFL league debut the minute he earns his spot
• Playing SANFL reserves won't get him on an AFL list. For someone who's already been passed over once, playing well at SANFL reserves level isn't going to impress AFL talent scouts. Every mature-aged draftee from SA I can think of, got the nod by playing stand-out footy at SANFL league level
• He is (if PAFC follow the rules) prohibited from being paid more than $100 per game by the PAFC because he's stuck in the SANFL reserves all year, whereas at Norwood if he earns a league debut, then within the SANFL salary cap Norwood can pay him whatever they like
• He has to leave behind his mates and club he's grown up with, which is a greater-than-usual pull if your home club is successful and the club you're thinking of transferring to, isn't
• The talk of 'if you wanna live the dream of playing AFL, your chances are better if you come to an AFL club' is an obvious crock. If they're interested in persuading him to stay, Norwood can point out to him: "Look at the number of players drafted and rookied from Norwood over the last 5 years, as compared with those wearing a prison bar guernsey."

There may well be the odd decent 18yo who requests to transfer over to Port Adelaide for a range of reasons, including that they buy the hype—in addition to the ex-U/18 castoffs who will make up the bulk of the 'academy'. People do irrational things all of the time, young people even more so.

But good luck with the claim that "the best 18 year olds that didn't get drafted to the AFL" will be lining up en masse to leave behind their SANFL club and train with the 3rd tier group at a bones-of-its-arse AFL club, in order to grasp the prize of not playing SANFL league footy and therefore not attracting the interest of AFL talent scouts.

Re: The Magpies Are Now The AFL Power Reserves

Okay so if a player isn't selected to play for a clubs League side then where does he play?

oh dear.

Silly question and obvious answer is if a player isn't selected to play for the league side then they will play in the reserves side.

So based on that regardless of which competition a team plays in then if a Port Power player does not get selected to play for the league team he will play for port's reserve side!!!!!!!

Thanks you've been great, I'm here all week try the Salmon.

Re: Crows Disgrace

Adelaide Crows CEO Steven Trigg said the opening AFL game at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval was the “perfect opportunity” to celebrate South Australian football.

“This is about our deep respect and admiration for South Australian football and all those who have been involved,” Trigg said.

“Football has been played at Adelaide Oval for more than 140 years, it was where the game evolved and grew into the State’s biggest sport.

“As we start an exciting new era at Adelaide Oval, we also wanted to do something that makes a statement underlining our appreciation for the past.

“The Adelaide Football Club was created by the SANFL as the team for all South Australians in 1990 and we are extremely proud of that heritage.

“Wearing the guernsey will be a central part of our plans for the game, which is to remember and highlight the history of the SANFL and its clubs.”

SANFL executive commissioner Leigh Whicker said the commemorative guernsey was “fitting” for football’s return to Adelaide Oval.

“The SANFL is delighted that the Adelaide Football Club will honour its heritage in round two of the AFL Premiership Season,” he said. “The guernsey reflects the many hard working and passionate people, as well as all the SANFL clubs, that have built the Crows into such a significant part of the South Australian football landscape.

“At a time of celebration, when football returns to the Adelaide Oval, it is fitting that this nationally recognised guernsey is on display.”

Re: Crows Disgrace

This decision is yet another example (that was so obvious during the reserves debate) of the arrogance and narrow-mindedness of the Crows and the SANFL Commission who must really believe that football in SA = the Crows and are unable to see things from the perspective of anyone else.

Rivalries in sport should be built from respect on the field, not from childish games (which is what this really is) which are just designed to antagonise the opponent.

But before Port supporters get on their high horse, the catalyst for this is still the dirty games Port played in 1990 which Whicker and co have never forgiven them for, and hence the petty games just keep continuing. The real loser in it all is football in SA as both sides rarely act in what is the true best interests of SA football.

AFL reserves players are obviously protected species.
and so they should be. They will be targeted by failed footballers like Clinch who want the 15 minutes of fame.

That sort of stuff is not on in a practice game no matter which era or team or player. enjoy the 5 weeks off.

Your right it is way to early to know what impact it will have Maybe, but a few hundred Crows fans rocking up to the first game on a fine day doesn't bode well.
don't forget the few hundred North fans that showed up to see the crows
Being a Sunday, fine weather and the first game of the year wouldve had a much bigger influence, we don't get too many round 1 games at home recently.
But what was the crowd? 4025?
If the Crows aren't liars we'll get 25 this week.
And remember our last game got 40,000!
North math day crowd has dropped 90% since the Cows reserves entered our comp!

does anyone have the quote from trig about the 4,000 supporters? It would be interesting to revisit and actually se what he said.

This is my fav article

ahhhh the old guestimate.

Great read I love the line Norwood polled its 2500 members this month on the reserves debate. There were 642 responses.
I guess 1858 Norwood members we so passionately against the AFL reserves teams playing they couldn't be bothered responding.
Didn't matter. The majority of respondents were ignored. The others probably thought there was no point as honest joe at that time, had categorically said they were voting no. A quote at the time something along the lines of a yes vote would turn the sanfl in to "parklands football".

Whichever way you look at it, port are South Australian. Numerous actions of theirs in the past however can only be described as "un South Australian".
Yes, they have shit on the SANFL, the other clubs, the SA footy public and even to a degree themselves more than any other club.
IMHO it is simply the lies, the unwillingness to accept any blame, the delusional arrogance and the sick and twisted penchant to point the finger at everyone else (when a mirror would suffice) that leaves everyone in disbelief regarding the PAFC and most of their supporters.

Re: Future of the SANFL

Have you assessed the posters? It may be that there are multiple opinions being expressed by multiple people.

AFL in the SANFL discussion/debate

After some debate with Admin/Mods and feedback from Members it has been decided to leave the Match preview/review threads for discussion about the match only, any debate about the AFL reserves teams can continue happily in the threads already running.

Any posts from now on that do not relate directly to the match will be considered off topic and deleted.

Hopefully this will stop every thread having this debate, while a worthy topic there needs to be some balance.

Thanks

Re: AFL Reserves. The Pros and Cons:

Now that the SANFL no longer hold the licenses of the two SA based AFL clubs what is the extent of the SANFL's obligation to these two clubs?
Is it the same obligation the SANFL has to Collingwood or Gold Coast? i.e None.

I am sure the SANFL would survive without the AFL teams, without the media, without any exposure, the clubs would simply adjust to live within their means.
For most people on here it wouldnt matter about the standard of the competition as long as it was still Centrals playing North or Glenelg playing South.
and there was the same rules for all and there was still a premiership at the end of the season.
It could be equivalent of Div 5 ammos for all i care i just want to see the dogs be given the same chance of winning the flag as the other 7 teams. The standard wouldnt fall away much as you must still play SANFL to be eligible for the draft thus keeping the comp strong.

Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Good crowd last night on paper but does the SANFL actually keep records of how many paid?
The Crows members getting free entry needs to be abolished next year or their license fee needs to go up

Re: AFL Reserves. The Pros and Cons:

if any of you were crows or port members, do you think you would want to get into your reserves for free? i sure do, and probably wouldnt have gone the other week to watch centrals and the crows if i didnt get in for nothing.
I'm a Centrals member and I can't get in to watch Centrals reserves for free so I'm not sure why the AFL teams supporters should be given any special treatment.

Surely you're not surprised, the Clare derby before it was a immeasurably more meaningful contest.

Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

I don't think anyone is ( from what I've seen and I certainly haven't ) denying the impact the current set up is having on the competition. I'm under no disillusions as to what is happening and what is likely to change at the end of the year.

I don't need reminding of it every thread. As Admin, moderators and posters have noted, if you don't like the thread, stay out of it!

Port v Adelaide SANFL game wrap up....really, if you don't like the current set up and have been happy to be vocal about it there must be some special level of idiocy taking place to enter that thread, agreed?

Yet you come into the "whinge" thread and complain. Priceless !

Re: Crows 2014

Dangerfield will be a one club player.

Did porps get dropped from the sanfl team? Wouldn't be surprised if it's a johncock situation and he retires this week. Was piss poor against the bays

Dangerfield will be wearing Hoops one day and you know it.

regards,

REB
nah he'll join his good mate tippett next year :D
he'll be a handy pick up for our reserves.
