Re: 2013 Ryobi One-Day Cup season schedule on Gem

Botha will be fine, they will just say he cant bowl a certain delivery. Bowled well in a couple of games but the last couple of decks they played on were not good for spinners (Cameron White v Nathan Lyon)

Taking Hughes and Ferg out of the middle order hurt us big time as we have no batting depth. Both will be back playing shield cricket this year so it should give us a decent batting line up. Klinger, Hughes, Cooper, Ferg, McDonald and with Trav Head, Kelvin Smith, Jake Brown fighting for spots.

Good to see Cooper string a few scores together also, hopefully can take that into the shield games!

Re: Ashes First Test Live Discussion

How good, Boof and Clarke are trying to bring back the Aussies of old! Nothing wrong with a bit of mongrel and fight!

Don't care what Clarke is like off the field he is a fierce competitor on the field and wears his heart on his sleeve. Anderson loves to give it out but doesn't like to receive it. I have a feeling it probably stems back from last ashes series as nearly every Aussie player was giving it to him and Siddle gave him a massive send off!

Shake hands like they did and play on! Bring on the 2nd test!

Re: Crows 2014

lets hope Sando took that problem away with him you are kidding me aren't you? The only person to blame for mental weakness is the 22 on the field. Including that glorious man danger.

where did he say it was sando's problem? when he said I quote "let's hope sando took that problem away with him" well apart from a cardboard box with stationery in it what else did he take? Your 19th man? That's always been a mental weakness!

Re: SA v NSW D/N Nov 8-11

0/13, 3 missed catches in one over

Wow, lucky!! Might be our day.

Reckon it is fairly generous declaration, 330 from 82 overs, 4 runs an over.

If Hughes and co get going, we are a good chance.
They needed to give us something that we were going to try and chase down. 330 makes us play our shots and a chance to get out as well as enough time to take 10 wickets. Good declaration IMO.

Re: World Cup 2015

Heres my 15 man squad.

Warner
Finch
Watson
Smith
Bailey
M Marsh
Haddin
Faulkner
Johnson
Harris
Lyon

Cummins, Pattinson, Starc, S Marsh (Clarke)

No Maxwell? IMHO he will be one of the first selected

I think we all want Rhino to play and he would be in all our best 11 but I think the selectors won't play him and will really look after him until the Ashes

Forgot about Maxwell, deffinetly in the squad but not so sure he's first picked in the starting 11 atm on form. Maybe Pattinson misses due to lack of match practice.
Agreed on Harris, still might be good to play him 2-3 of the harder games.

Would love for England to perpare a green deck first up and we play Harris, Johnson, Pattinson and Cummins on an overcast day one morning!

Re: Crows 2015

The drums are starting to beat in the media about this "trade", Crows picks 10 and 47 for 14 and 35

http://www.ntnews.com.au/sport/local-afl/crows-on-back-foot-after-cockatoo-slips-from-their-grasp/story-fnk2to87-1227267929456

http://www.geelongcats.com.au/news/2015-03-19/pint-sized-cat-emerges-as-a-dark-horse

Will be funny if Dangerfield goes at this year to Geelong, Geelong will have two players capable of this explosive type of play:

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-premiership/nakia-cockatoo-lights-up-geelongs-nab-challenge-win-with-bit-of-brilliance-in-the-no5/story-e6frf3e3-1227261401308

For the sake of Crows fans, Lever better be bloody good
Just media play up. As Noble has said the Crows drafted on need. We needed a CHB and Lever was a top 10 draft pick before doing his knee so we picked a CHB. This happens every draft right back when Pavlich was overlooked by 12 or so AFL clubs. i remember the frenzy when Dangerfield was picked infront of Ebert and why we traded a fair bit to get Brad Crouch.
From other Clubs off the top of my head Tambling at Richmond and nearly all of Melbournes first round draft picks over the last few years spring to mind! Wait and see in a couple of years whether or not we have made a mistake here but on previous drafting i would back Noble to have got this one right!

Re: Crows 2015

Disagree about hartigan. There was about three times where he brought the ball to ground or the ball came in at stringers feet and then he got walked around
Walsh here made a tactical error. Stringer is too fast and agile for Hartigan and that match up should have been changed long before he had 5 kicked on him.

Taking nothing away from the Dogs who were outstanding, there run and skill and hunger for ball and contest has to be applauded....however, the Crows didn't turn up to play, we were second to the contest, skills horrible, no want and desire like we have seen the past 3 weeks.

Re: 2015 Frank Worral and Ashes Tours

Mitch Marsh another ton, has to take Watsons alrounder spot in the first test! You'd think the 11 would be:

Rogers
Warner
Smith
Clarke
Voges or S Marsh
Haddin
M Marsh
Johnson
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

Re: 2015 Ashes

But our bowling is not what lost us the test.
I think our seam bowling in the 1st innings in particular was terrible. That and obviously the dropped catch set up the loss IMO.
Agreed. In the first innings we failed to bowl consistent lines even at 3/30 odd we were all over the place. The 2nd Innings bowling was a lot better and we rolled them for under 300. We bowl well we win the test IMO. Our batting is good enough to hit a winning score and will get better as the series goes on as we havent played a lot of test cricket over the last 6+ months with the world cup.

Re: Crows 2015

3 year deal for Matt Crouch. Good result for the club as he will take over from Thompson in 2017 IMO. Certainly has a lot of potential and if we can get his brother fit it will be good to see the Crouch brothers feeding each other over the next few years.

Re: A-League season 2015-16

People were kicked out of the cricket for skulling beers, throwing plastic empty cups during Mexican waves and making plastic cup snakes (no doubt idiots amongst them that deserved to kicked out) you can’t compare that to starting fights, lighting flares and enticing violence!

Re: Grade Cricket

9 overs, 1 maiden and figures of 0-47 so far for the SACA part time spinner (4pm day 4)

90 overs, 13 maidens and match figures of 11-230 for the Vic spinners.

Who in their right mind plays 4 quicks on the flattest Glenelg pitch ever seen?
A team that’s front line spinner is in India and the backup spinner doesn’t spin the ball much more than Trav. Zampa would have played if he was available. In saying that if Richardson and Zampa were both available we probs play 4 quicks again. Quicks have done it for us all year.

IMO this game wasn't lost due to not playing a front line spinner, it was lost due to our inability to convert starts into hundreds like our more experienced opponents.

Re: Round 1 - WWT defeat Sturt

It wasn’t all bad for the Blues yesterday, had some good patches and some young kids showed some good signs. You could see the type of game plan Mattner is trying to implement with numbers behind the ball and running the ball out of defence as we don’t have a forward over 6’4” to kick long to like most sides. It will take more than a few games for the players to adapt to this style.

Unfortunately bad skill errors cost us goals early and the Eagles are a well drilled and structured side who took advantage of it. 6 goals was probably a fair margin in the end.

Re: Adelaide Crows 2017

More jobs for the boys at West Lakes. Is anyone really surprised?

Odd comment. Not sure many appointments at Adelaide lately would fit that bill. Last 2 senior coaches, a lot of assistant and support staff had their histories outside the Crows.

Trolling mate when his club is on tilt
Names that came to mind immediately that seem to be "in house" appointments were Burton, Noble, Smart, Bode, Van berlo.
Anyways, you say we're on the tilt, how and where will the Crows improve in 2017? The main problem in the last 2 years finals beltings hasn't been addressed (again) and I don't need to bring up the trade table farce. You had the greatest run with injuries since day dot in 2016, that won't happen again either.
Another year of making up the numbers?
Enjoy battling for the bottom 4!

Re: Australian International Summer

SACA wants to make money $$$. 150-200,000 spectators over 4-5 days of cricket = big bucks!

I for one love it. The 2nd is a Saturday so there will be 50,000+ people at the ground for the first 2 days play - the atmosphere will be amazing!

Yes, it was a bit cool at night but take a jacket if you're cold.

Re: Australian International Summer

Poor selections. Would have liked to see Trav Head open again or at 3 with Smith batting 4.

Zampa needed to play IMO and obviously M Marsh not in the side. How do Boof and Smith justify batting Marsh at 4? Absolutely baffling.

Need to play another specialist batsman IMO. 1 too many alrounders. Still have Maxwell/Head, Zampa, Faulkner + 2 quicks. 6 bowling options is plenty IMO.

Marsh going to India is an early Aprils fools joke right?

Re: Port Adelaide 2017

Hopefully Port fans now realise Trengove isn't playing defence each week because Bassett doesn't want him in defence.

Can't say Ports defence hasn't improved without him looking at the stats.

Trengove is slow clumsy and gets caught ball watching. About as useful as a three legged dog.
Worth letting him go as a free agent? Carlton and Richmond apparently interested?
Might get a late 2nd round pick compo?
Pittard is another interesting one who has been in and out of the side all year.

Re: 2017 Off-Season

Or it might be as simple that an ordinary Victorian team wants to pay way overs and continue to wreck the culture of their club.

If the reported $300k a year difference is correct I for one cannot blame him
Please stop reading/listening to 2nd rate victorian media journalist twitter accounts.

The average wage for an AFL footballer this year was 300k and going up 20% next year.

Our offer was around 650-700k per year which is far from low balling!

Re: 2017 Off-Season

Yeah probably not, but if it was possible thats what I'd do.

If Sloane is going in 2019 trade now whilst his worth is peaked. Even if its just

Out: Sloane
In; Pick 7 and Gibbs
There is no way Sloane goes this year, club will just not do it.

If he goes next year we will take 2 more 2018 first round draft picks and have a mini rebuild with 4 top end talented kids in 2019

No we won't. He'd be unrestricted free agent so at best we get a high 1st rd compo, depending on if the compo system is still in place and if someone pays him $1m a year.

Re: Adelaide Crows 2018

I see plenty more improvement and upside in the playing group.

Expecting Crouch x2, McGovern, Greenwood to improve again with hopefully uninterrupted preseasons.

Lower tier players to improve Milera, Doedee, Hampton, Keath, Poholke, Gallucci which will all be pushing for starting 22 spots.

We no doubt will miss Smith and Lever so expecting a shuffle of players in the back third.

Ellis-Yoleman and Gibson good cover in case we get injuries.

Re: Adelaide Crows 2018

Yeah, people support the 36'ers.

Strange decision by the Swamp Corporation, they usually make good financial decisions but the 6'ers are a money pit, have been for years.
I have no doubt Fagan has done his due diligence on this. i believe in recent years since the new owner took over the 6ers have been doing ok corporately.

It's interesting that GWS and Collingwood both have netball teams and Essendon wants to have their own NBL team next year.

Clubs must see money in the national basketball and netball leagues. Didn't Port used to have an affiliation with the Thunderbirds? They even changed their colours from memory etc.

I think you have mistaken Polec for a netballer ............

Re: Trade + Draft Period 2018

The 8 way trade is reliant on Neale getting to Brisbane, this will allow Port ( Wingard / Amon / Burton ), Fremantle ( Neale / Hogan ), Brisbane ( Neale / Adams / Beams ), Hawthorn ( Burton / Wingard / Amon ), Bulldogs ( Adams ), Gold Coast ( May ), Collingwood ( Beams ) and Melbourne ( Hogan / May ) to shuffle players and picks.

It's expected Port could end up with Brisbane's pick 5, Hawthorn's pick 15 and Ryan Burton and give up pick 6 and Wingard ( along with something else, future 3rd/4th rounder ).

If Port can end up with 5,10,15 and Burton after losing Wingard, Polec, Pittard ( boohoo ), Amon whilst not thrilled at one of our losses ( Wingard ) I'll be happy that we've got the best possible outcome for our club.

3 picks in the top 15 and Ryan Burton. Not many clubs would knock back compensation like that.
Good compensation that's for sure but a step backwards. You will pick up some very handy players in the draft but they want have the same impact as a Polec or Wingard for a few years. For a team that topped up with experience players last season to challenge it's not ideal but a decent outcome considering.
