Re: Christmas

off to the inlaws tonight for a traditional uruguayan asado (ask any south american about it, pronounced asatho. ..) then working night shift tonight.

home at 730 tomorrow morning for pressies with little miss NG (almost 3) and Mrs NG plus junior nugget (5mths). after pressies and breakfast I'll go to sleep for a while before getting up around 4 and then at 630 we have some folks from our church coming over for a feed and a relaxed night then back to work for night shift again...

will get everything done plus double time and a half pay, booya!

have a safe and merry Christmas everyone and remember the REAL reason for the season.

Re: Crows 2014

There aren't enough gifs in the world to express how hilarious that is.

It's the airport all over again.

i for one would love to see this kind of thing introduced here...

look at the EPL and listen to their crowds chanting. It sounds amazing when they all start with the same chant. do you reckon they just wing it or have organised 'practice' sessions to nut out new chants?!?

a bit of tall poppy syndrome creeping in here methinks...

No, English soccer fans don't rehearse. That's tradition, not manufactured support. Someone in marketing at the Crows needs to concentrate on selling merchandise. It's cringe worthy at best.

Did you not listen to what they were wailing? I'm guessing a few Crow supporters will be telling them to stfu.

no i didnt listen to what they were chanting, i could imagine though...

at least they are trying something outside the box to get behind their side. if it fails then so be it, but you watch if it takes off every club will get on it too!

RE the lyrics - i'm sure if it does take off then some lyrical genius will come up with witty lines and catchy tunes, until then it is what it is

Re: Things that make you laugh

Lil miss Nugget (3) cracked me up yesterday at a family Mother's Day lunch.

She's outside on the trampoline with her cousin having a great time then this little gem.

Lil miss - daaaaaaaaaaaaaad..... Can I have a tissue, I have mocos (Spanish for boogers)
Me - yep, I'll get one from inside
Upon return outside with said tissue she looks at me with all seriousness
Lil miss - I don't need it anymore
Me- why?
Lil miss- I ate it...

I lost it!!!

Re: Things that give you the sh1ts

pissed off that my youngest has to wait till next year to start kindergarten as he turns 4 in october yet the indigenous boy down the street has already started and is not even 3.........wheres the equal opportunity in that ffs

it smacks of inequality doesnt it...

i think initially the different rules for indigenous kids was brought in to encourage the parents to put them in education, also because of the transient nature, a lot of indigenous families moved regularly which made it difficult for the children because they missed out on the necessary education and this meant that they had more time to instill some basic principals into the indigenous children. I think another factor is the socialisation, giving the indigenous kids the opportunity to have positive social interraction is paramount in them breaking the cycle of alcoholism, drug dependency and career unemployment.

it is all such a perpetual cycle though and i dont think we'll ever have an answer that everyone will subscribe to.

due to my heritage my kids are indigenous and we have the ability to put our kids into kindy at 3 instead of 4. My kids are more south american than they are aboriginal as Mrs NG is Uruguayan, but if the option is there i'm gonna take it. luckily for me lil miss nugget is pretty clever and fits right in with the older kids, NG Jnr is only 10 months so jury's out on his intellect, i just hope he takes after the missus too!

The other silly part about this is the single admission for schools now. i think the deadline is like May 31 so if your kids are born prior to that they can be enrolled that year, if not then they have to wait until the next year... Surely they can manage 2 intakes a year and if the kids in the second half dont quite adapt to schooling by the end of the year can stay in reception and those that take off and grasp everything in that second half can scoot through to year 1...

Re: Round 16 - live scores, results & conversing.

Finally someone that seen what i seen. Robbo just saying now that the eye gauge was before the choke and footage that backs it up.
Petrie very f*&(%ing lucky to not got 3-4.
If Lake gets more than 1 its a joke. If u cant defend yourself when someone eye gauges you then there is something wrong.
Petrie is a F(*^ing dog

i just saw the footage on footy classified, and to say that that was an eye gouge before lake grabbed him is pretty ridiculous. he was making contact with his face but it wasnt substantial contact until after he was grabbed by the throat.

from what i saw it looked more like Lake had his gurnsey held tight across his throat with his right hand and the left came in later to apply the extra pressure... Petrie kinda took it for a second then fought back a little before getting backup. I dont think the gauge was of any real force and i dont think it was prior to the choke, Lake wouldve been jacked because Petrie was all over him and his frustration got the better of him...

this is worse than Luis Suarez.... give him 10! ;-)

Re: Things that make you laugh

Ok, expect a bump in the future though.

Just out of interest, what are your views on gay people in general, regardless if they can get married or not. Are you against gay relationships, or do you think they should be viewed as the same as a straight relationship?

If you've said all this in another thread, whats it called, so I can have a look-see.
People are people and they have the right to choose whatever lifestyle they like. I have friends that are gay, they know I dont agree with their lifestyle and they often dont agree with mine but I dont treat them any differently.

Re: End of season movements. FA, trades, bullshit etc.

ive said this before, but this isnt about tribal club loyalties anymore, this is their workplace. and if they are employable and want to work somewhere else, they should be able to.
Especially considering they don't get to choose where they go initially...
When they go in the draft they agree to play 2 years at whatever club drafts them. They have to suck it up or not play AFL.

i get that but its a bit stiff IMO.

18 year old kid, probably never left home gets drafted interstate away from all his mates and family and is forced to be there

imagine if any other industry did that.

50 odd sparkys finish trade school and your boy is the best of the lot, gets picked up by Con's dodgy electrical (apologies to any Con's out there) in Tibooburra NSW on a two year deal. spends the first year out there and hates it then wants to come home AND an experienced sparky says, yeah i wanna go to Tib...

Re: Things that you rate!

I rate landing a new job and moving away from shift work to a 9-5 again.

life is about to change dramatically as no more midweek days off and no more half days at home with Mrs NG and the lil nuggets BUT no more stress of having to worry about swapping shifts to accommodate church and being able to book dinners with family without having to check my calendar AND being able to put my kids to bed every night and not have to leave Mrs NG at home alone while working nights (like now).

move up a payrate but take a cut due to no more penalties and have to go to Elizabeth to work now on a short term contract but overall a pretty happy day.

shift work has a shelf life, i'm about due.

Re: FFA Cup

The EPL competition is equal, the rules are equal, the opportunites are equal, the participants differ.

There are inequalities but they do not lie in the competition unlike our AFL where different clubs have different rules and regulations and restrictions and an evening out of the competition.

I love both codes and the uniqueness of their competition

People in car parks.

Literally saved a womans life yesterday at costco. She was walking back to her car and this stupid woman who was looking for a carpark spotted a car leaving behind her so she slammed her BMW into reverse and put her foot down without looking in mirrors or over her ahoulder properly. If i wasnt there to slam on her boot and scream at her to stop she would've plowed down this other lady walking walking towards her car. She screa hed to a halt within 2 foot of the pedestrian. Im glad i was by myself, if i had one of my kids with me it could have been far worse.

Seriously, people go stupid in that car park especially.

Absolutely, we wont buy it for home for the sheer fact that we don't want to get used of it, saving it for KFC visits is good enough.

It's horrible, I have a KFC, Hungry Jacks, Subway, nando's, 3 thai take-away restaurants, an indian one and a pizza bar all within 500 metres of my house.

My old place had:

Hogs breath, The Nor East, Plaza Pizza bar, the HIghlander, Hungry Jacks, Macca's, North China restaurant, Dominoes, Fasta Pasta, Noodle Box (now gone) Chicken CHef, Subway and some Indian place I never ate at within about the same range.

Decisions, decisions!! I'm not much of a Hogs breath fan but Chicken Chef rates highly.[/quote]

Re: Things that make you laugh

7 years is a small sample.

The 20 year picture is probably the best indicator.

Agree but times are changing and I think the last 7 years are a better indicator of the direction the game is heading

I believe modern technology and the acces everyone has to it is helping to close the gap.

While i think the AFL is now set up so we will see this happening alot more often where a 5 year period will have the same 4 sides dominating, they will then drop off while it will be another block of 4 teams dominating.\

In simplified terms i think every year in the EPL there is probably 13-14 teams who are playing for something, title, Champions League, Europa, surving relegation while in the AFL there is generally never more than 4 maybe 5 realistic sides that could actually win anything.
One difference is the bottom of the table games in the EPL are often massive because teams have to win to survive, no chance of tanking because no draft and the chance of dropping out of the division looms large. Many times the relegation battle isnt settled til the last day so teams are pushing hard all year.

Re: Things that you rate!

Please excuse me while i blow my own trumpet here for a second.

Had a great couple days.

Bought a new bed over the weekend, chose a floor model and what retailed at $3599 for the base and $1899 for the mattress i walked away paying $2200 plus free delivery.

They wouldnt chuck the cleaning of the mattress in though so i thought i would hire one of those britex machines from woolies. (I used to be a carpet cleaner so i kinda know what to do). Cost me $65 and over last night and tonight i have cleaned both our cars, our 6 dining chairs, our 2 seater and 3 seater lounge and the new mattress. At my previous place of employment (Atlas Chemdry, recommend them highly!) It would have been up and around $600 worth.

And i saved $60 on getting my pants taken up thanks to whufc.

Solid couple days! I rate that! Now whats next... Maybe the backyard...
