Re: Southern Football League

Old man Emu

I found this discussion on the junior football section of the forum, given its not written by you, I found it quite interesting. Is this the best way forward for Junior Development given that MVFC are clearly the League Leaders in this field, according to your good self anyway....

Hopefully if MVFC continue in this direction, you might be able to return to the Golden Era of 1982-2003.

Old Man Emu - MVFC Junior Development Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla !!!
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

well at morphett vale its seems our Under 12 whites are all are best experienced players

our under 12s maroons is all the novices & beginners

or extend that whites are bigger kids (maybe grade 7s at school) & the emu marrons are grade 6ers

our whites smashed our maroons in the trial game[/b][/i]

I would not take any authority from what marbles says, he is merely a troll.

He comes from a different world where teams tank in the A-Grade to bolster up their B-grade teams for premierships so that they can secure the prize of relegation to ensure that they have an easier premiership to win the following year. A world where a C-Grade premiership is equal to an A-Grade premiership. A world where kids can play for their school and never step foot in, or represent your club, but still be considered one of your juniors.

Don't expect him to understand, but I suspect he is not serious and merely does it for attention.

Re: Steve Smith Australian Test Captain

Fully deserved
Remarkable improvement
I never anticipated East Coast Blonde Don Smith would be a regular Test cricketer

However, I have a concern
The timing

EC Smith has just scored 162 + 52 not out in his last test match and right now is at his peak
Is it the right time to burden him with the captaincy ?

Hopefully it does not affect his sensational form of recent times
I totally agree with ya Mal.

Wouldn't it be a better option to leave the captaincy to Haddin for the remainder of the test series. And give Smith the vice captaincy and let Clarke and Haddin teach Smith all the lessons he is going to need to be a captain that going to lead us for a long time?

I believe if we rush him into the captaincy too early, and especially atm with how good his form is. Could it unsettle him and put him under too much stress of making decisions and also worrying about his batting performance?

IMO, once at this level you don't get taught how to be a captain.

Either you are and can or you aren't and can't. There's no "he's ready now" IMO, Smith, Clarke, Ponting etc etc would have all captained teams throughout their teenage years and it wasn't because someone took them under their wing and showed them, it's simply because they can and did become the stand out choice to lead the side.

Re: HFL Country Division

New poster and jumpring between the country and central threads as new to hills and finding my feet on where to send my lad to play and who to support. As I said in the central forum theres a lot going on in this league and I see with some dismay and interest being from a small town that Sedan Cambrai are struggling and were voted out..what affect does that have to a small town and community with a netball club that follows the footy. Is the towns and league so cruel to chop an entire town out because they cant fill a junior team. I see that there are rules but rules do need to reflect what is happening in small communities and be able to adjust. Do central clubs or country only clubs vote on such important decisions like this?
I feel for Sedan Cambrai as a community as in winter what other choice of sport do they have? Certainly doesnt sound like the people who voted them out where thinking about being inclusive and giving as many players as possible a go at playing football for their local town.
But hey what do I know, I am sure I will learn more about the ins and outs of this league as I get to 'shop' around..!

Just to be clear, they haven't been 'voted out', they have been put into Division 3. They remain a member club of the HFL.

"Division 3" is nothing more than a kick and catch C-Grade, same effect as being kicked out.
So what should happen. 8 clubs who can fill the requirements bend to 1 club who can't. ](*,)
Milang are happy to play within their means in the so called kick & catch comp.
Again we all know the biggest issue in country div is clubs not having junior teams.
Maybe we should just have 1 div as that works so well for SFL.

Re: Southern Football League

Not for me to elaborate on, not my club, and it isn't rubbish!! Imagine it will be all over here by this afternoon, definitely by selections tonight!!
Maybe someone from the club concerned can reveal? There's plenty of em on this site normally with opinions.

Joel Brown on the move?[/quote]

Have done some checking for you SB and you are correct. Sad to see but when you are offered the real big bucks he has been reckon it is understandable. Was always a chance this would happen when his best mate NPG went to Loxton. He has told club he will be back next year but has a wedding to pay for

Just another casualty of the country clubs being able to offer these blokes plenty of $$$$$ and SFL clubs cant match it.

Jet Airport reckon you need to get your head out your backside mate and stop trashing HV any chance you get. Most blokes would be tempted by this sort of cash - HV dont need to "have a good hard look at themselves" but maybe you should find a mirror and stop trying to stir up trouble

Re: 2015 Frank Worral and Ashes Tours

Chris Rogers has announced he is going to retire from Test cricket at the end of the Ashes series and Brad Haddin has announced his retirement from ODI cricket.
I wonder if Rogers' decision was influenced by the plans of Adelaide Oval having a day/night test against the sheep rooters this summer. Either way, I'm kind of glad he's retiring and at least he can back up his good work over the past couple of years and go out at the top of his game.

As for Haddin, why even announce a retirement from ODI's, just piss off all together.....................cheat.
Why doesn't everyone declare Rogers selfish for waiting until after the ashes to retire?

.. If it was Kane Cornes they would
Probably because he didn't announce that he's retiring after day 3 of the third test.

Re: Southern Football League

Is there not a ruling that if a play has been suspended for greater than 30 minutes, the match will be abandoned? Before half time being called a draw, and after half time the points going to the team leading at the time.
No a rule was implemented to allow for the game to continue once opportunity allows to try to get a result. Most ambulance removals from the playing surface take longer than 30 mins.

Re: Southern Football League

How many teams have left the SFL in the past 25 years? I think Brighton are the last team to enter (and stay) in that time.
Brighton only one to have stayed
Edwardstown & Mitchell Park the only other two to join in that period
Go back a little further and Marion and Morphettville Park have now been with us for 28 years

As for left, McLaren, Kangarilla, Meadows went during that period. All division 2 teams

2 mergers - Lonsdale & O'Sullivan Beach and McLaren Flat & McLaren Vale

plympton left after the 1989 season as well

Didn't Macclesfield come and go in the 80's?

Flagstaff Hill joined in 1985 as well

The question stated "in the past 25 years"

Re: HFL Division 1 (Central)

I know there has been a lot said on Jaensch, so I am not here to jump on the bashing bandwagon, but I was reading the advertiser today and there is an article in there that basically says Jaensch enjoyed a beer or two and when he was confronted by Tex he didn't want to conform to that and the additional pressures of being an AFL player and therefore decided he wanted out. Had lost the love of the game and just wanted to go back to grassroots to try and enjoy it again.
Now some would say he gave up an opportunity that many would die for, but I think we will see this happen more and more in the future.
Players under heavy scrutiny and from a young age they are told they can't go out past a curfew, can't drink during the season, can't go out, have to say this, act this way, train all the time, not hang out with these people and have numerous media outlets criticise you and bag you whenever without giving a response.
I look at Nathan Ablett and he was the same as Jaensch, after all that is required you get to a point where it is just a job and you find it hard to rock up day in day out.
Can't really blame the bloke for simply wanting to enjoy footy and have a beer with mates after the game, I think we are all guilty of that.

Re: Southern Football League

Upto 5 clubs looking at leaving next year. Flaggies, Happy Valley, Reynella, Marion and Osb. Anyone from those clubs care to comment or is it still to early. Was around this time last year that Brighton and Morphy's announced they were leaving.

Have heard that OSB and Marion and going to be in the Adelaide Footy League in 2018.....almost definite. Reynella too have put the feelers out.

The SFL has always been a strong league, what the hell is going wrong?

If Lonsdale and Marion go it will be a good thing for the league and hopefully the consolidation the comp needs as a 9 team A grade comp all with juniors left. Feel sorry for Lonsdale as they try hard, but have no sympathy for Marion.

Always a focus on the poor performances at the bottom end of the ladder, but not much focus on the top, the last few years have shown a very even top 6 clubs and the standard when these clubs play each other is top notch. Confirmed by recent association and zone results along with Brighton dominating Div 3 after finishing 4th in 2016, this is still a strong league.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 7 - 2018

Social media in particular SA Footy is part of the problem. The Div 6 and Div 7 forums are already up to 40 pages for 2018 and the season is still 10 days away. When I played Ammos it was exactly that - amateur. Although back in the late 80's some of the Div 1 and Div 2 clubs were clearly buying brown paper bags for more than the mixed lollies in the canteen. In those days, other than the scores in the Sunday Mail with best and goals for the A grades only, the only other vehicle for ones name getting a mention was a small write up in the Footy Times each week. But the passion showed by the likes of Bedge, Morell etc. on SA Footy and the constant reference to some of the better players running around in these divisions only serves to inflate the ego and perceived value of blokes who would struggle to get a regular A grade game at many clubs or at least command no more than the base rate for an A grade game. I don't know what the solution is because the clubs in the weakest country leagues are probably paying players similar to the stronger country leagues which equates much the same to paying players whether you are Div 1 or Div 7. But it's rather sad how clubs are forced to survive these days when they were originally established to provide a recreational outlet with organised competition for their local communities, with absolutely no intention of one day having to pay people to participate.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 7 - 2018

It is an attitude shift that by its nature is going to cause seismic shifts in community sport, particularly when the current generation of volunteers dies out (generally baby-boomers and up).
This is what worries me the most about the future. Already we see very few are willing to put their hands up and help out around the place, what will the next generation bring?

People just seem to care less.

Every sport is the same - hell even cricket, I send out messages for help at Bunnings BBQ's during the season or even now season is over ask for members to come down and lend a hand cleaning the rooms ready to hand over to Lacrosse for the winter season, and I get either one of two responses - nothing at all, just flat out ignore, or they say no.

Pisses me off more when something is posted in the FB group and you can see who has "seen" the post, and yet no one person chooses to acknowledge it.

This generation of people are ******* lazy, narcissistic and self-centred, they expect everything handed on a platter, they expect to be treated above and beyond and they give very little back in return.

Once upon a time you used to have to earn your stripes, earn your respect and placing.. now they expect it to be a given.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 7 - 2018

If i was a 'young' aspiring footballer (not a grandpa footballer like most of you blokes) and i was told im just a surplus un-required footballer who might get a quarter or so on the field i would leave immediately

Who pays fees, buys uniforms and boots, trains twice, invites their wife kids or relatives to see you play footy all to spend most of the afternoon on the bench

Youre all bias and lack empathy for the individual who come to your club to play footy, and believing this player is having a wonderful time & developing immensly by spending 60% of the game sitting on a bench NOT PARTICIPATING youre in my opinion delusional. Sorry :D

So he goes to a less successful club, gets a full game and gets whalloped week in, week out and doesn't enjoy the day, doesn't get to socialise much after the game as not many go back to the club after a loss. He can be complacent that he doesn't need to improve his skills as he will get a game regardless as his new club has to make half a dozen calls every Thursday night to fill the last couple spots.

Then comes Saturday when the coach is waiting outside the changeroom door sucking on a durry watching the carpark to see who else might fill in or is going to rock up or not.

I think most blokes know where they stand in the team, it's not a great feeling as a coach telling players why they are starting on the bench or not getting a game but it's a part of life in sports.

There is a reason I don't play professional golf.

what you upset that Sullies aren’t gonna get the easy ride they thought in this div? Have a think about it

We’ve hardly won a game in 6/7 years and you think we think this will be easy?. Never heard a single person within the club say we will get an easy ride to a flag. We’re new to travelling, playing on ovals we’ve never seen before and so far have had two tightly contested battles. We are learning to win again as club and we are really enjoying our experiences in the AdFL.
You might not think it.. but I bet you’re quality recruits who have all flooded back to the club think it was gonna be that easy

Re: HFL Division 2 (Country)

But was the majority of players being those who were recruited to the club and being paid good money - probably more than what many would have been paid elsewhere. I'm all for clubs, particularly country clubs, maintaining their identity and existence but when a club's local population and demographic means the clear majority of their players have no association with the local area, past and present, then what is being achieved by that. There are numerous country clubs with hybrid names (due to mergers) on Yorke Peninsula, Eyre Peninsula and the Mid North that have been that way for over 20 years, not to mention several in metropolitan Adelaide such as Goodwood Saints, Brighton Bombers, Portland, Payneham Norwood Union etc. What has changed in the last 20 years that has seen little or no mergers. Country Football Victoria did a massive review not long ago with recommendations that have been implemented that has seen clubs merge, leagues consolidated, clubs switch leagues etc. I think its time for Community Footy SA to do something similar and possibly save some clubs and leagues from themselves.

Re: Southern Football League

SB, my point is that you maintain you know what played out and yet you were not there. Therefore you are relying on second, third, fourth hand information and reading published articles which contained numerous errors of fact. The SFL investigation was able to decipher the fact from the fiction and delivered a considered, honest and reasonable decision. Classic case of don’t believe everything you read or hear! Also don’t judge a whole club on the actions of a couple of idiots.
This could be the biggest load of shit I've ever read on this site.. and I've posted enough shit in my time myself!

Carrington (WT) joining Adelaide. Promised top 4 batting spot apparently.

Smart move opportunity would have been limited at Torrens

Always amazes me how Clubs promise the world to young kids with parents who think their child is the next Steve Smith. To say you will bat Top 4 all year no matter what is irresponsible. What happens when he makes four ducks in a row, or he doesn’t turn up to a game because he is hungover from a big night out, or still got drugs in his system from the big party on the Saturday night before a Sat/Sun match? This will end in tears

Would have thought you could have left it at we wish him well at Adelaide, unfortunately didn't work out at WT hope he gets some of the off-field things sorted.

Ok.. i'll say it..

The dude sounds like a dick. He sounds like he's milking this for all it's worth.

Sure he shouldn't have got hit but **** me dead it looked like a palm to the face at best - at worst a short arm jab.

Sure it dropped him - but not before he threw his head back, and twisted his body around so the umpire noticed.. then laid on the ground like he was dead until it was dealt with.. gets up and strolls over the umpires un-aided to throw his thoughts in then wanders off in the arms of the trainer staggering around.

Do I condone the action of Kerhsaw? No of course not.. but **** me dead, this is a bit of a beat up.

Don't condone what the player did, should never touch a offical. Has the runner be banned for his conduct before the indecent as it alleged he had plenty to say to players and officials of the units through the game. Was Lutheran coach one who got 6 games at the tribunal last night (2 suspended) and if it was does he have to coach from of the oval now?

The game was 3 minutes old when the incident happened….

Re: 2022 Adelaide Footy League - Division 5

Covid is a symptom, it's not the sole problem. Reality is community sport - or rather commitment to - has been on the decline for a long time now.

On one side, people are getting lazier, more entitled expect the world without making effort, but on the other also less work/life balance and need to either do weekend work or invest time with family.

Young people's priorities have continued to shift away from structured sport.

Training a couple nights a week and playing Saturdays just isn't as appealing to people these days.

If anything Covid kept it together bit longer because people were hampered in their ability to travel, holiday, live a "normal" life.. now that it's returning to somewhat normality, people are cashing in.

Also, those with their own business are less worried about 2 weeks off work from covid as opposed to 12 months off with a serious injury.
