Re: Great Southern Football League

I have heard the same rumour however I heard it was Craig Parry the winner of 23 professional golf tournaments. Standing at 173cm and weighing in at a sturdy 122kg parry has been recruited as a result of his recent golf performance slump and thus a requirement to change professions. He has been recruited to provide a tough body for in and under footy as well as a draw card for crowds

Re: Great Southern Football League

In addition another reason for recruitment was so that McLaren would win the willunga v McLaren annual golf comp/mixer which will be starting on the 4th of January at the willunga memorial golf course

Tickets for the event are $25 and include a glass of complimentary Dowie Doole 2007 shiraz. If you or anyone you know would like to book you can contact barnie Collier through the club facebook or website pages.

Re: HFL Central Division

Have heard Metro South clubs voted 7-6 to deny Mt Lofty juniors playing in the comp. Too far to travel being mentioned but I think was a secret ballot last night. Does that leave Lofty any options other than to play Country juniors and negotiate with Hills to adjust the draw to get as many games in as possible even if it means juniors don't always play in front of seniors?

Not surprised at this as one of the metro south clubs formed out of a group of people who thought Cove and Morphett Vale was too far to travel in the SFL.

Re: SAAFL division 6 2014

Ive seen first hand how hard the off field folk work for the Mitchell Park FC - Its people like Ken and the Weekleys that I really feel for here and you know that this isn't a matter of how the club is run but just simply a lack of commitment from those on -field.

Congratulations on the juniors Yank Man and hopefully whatever woes you have player wise this year can be made up for in years to come.

Re: SAAFL Division 3 2014

I know for a fact that Kilburn has worked EXTREMELY hard over the past few years trying to establish juniors. It's not easy though, a 100 kids don't just drop out of the sky, and it's more difficult to keep them especially when numbers are down.

Constant struggle in the area - low socio-economic area and high cultural diversity are two of the biggest challenges.

The issues facing the club extend beyond senior football, look at cricket - from A1 and going well a few years back to almost extinction and back to B2 - but they wont quit and give up.

Re: SAAFL division 6 2014

Quite amazing that Mitchell Park lost by 23 goals today and yet I personally couldn't be prouder. The side we had included 5 guys who couldn't get a game in our C Grade last year, an 18 yr old kid at fullback, half a dozen blokes who haven't trained more than once or twice. Plus a few more who really should be in a paddock somewhere. I honestly thought we were looking at a Kilburn 50+ goal type result before the game but to the lads credit they fought like the mutts they are and managed to walk off with heads held high.

Thanks to the Mawson Lakes guys, good footy club, always respectful and were simply way too good. Schapel, Uern, Reidy and co will run amok this year.

That shows great spirit Morell, it may be a long year but I think it will be a team building year that will hold you in good stead for the future
:)

Thanks to everyone at MLFC for the way they conducted themselves yesterday. Would have been easy to treat us like chumps, but they maintained a high level of professionalism all day. 10 goals to 2 at half time and I thought our pressure was good but in the end our fitness and quality waned in the 2nd half and a couple of injuries restricted our bench rotations. Fortunately we still have 5 or 6 good A graders still to come in and our best team on the deck will be competitive. Rosewater next week doesn't get any easier though so we might just save some for after Easter.

I only saw the second half of the game and was impressed with the way Mitchell Park played out the game, they never gave up and put in a great effort considering who and how many players they could select. Mawson Lakes did treat them with the respect they deserved and even though the score was a blow out it was a enjoyable game to watch.

I hope Mitchell Park can get some more players on the track and continue in Div 6 this season. I have no doubt that if they play the game like they did on Saturday there will be some victories during the year, good luck for the rest of the year.

Re: SAAFL division 6 2014

Ok, enough with the whinging PM's... here comes explanation.

I want everyone to go back and look though the last few pages. I've marked a few posts in red - and those are but a small example and not exhaustive by any means.

Now I'm not trying to pinpoint or make an example of anyone, I've done this simply to highlight the snideness that you all have been posting with over the last few days, not to mention PG who made me waste 10 minutes of my day deleting the bullshit he posted after his bender, plus other comments by other posters which I just couldn't keep on the boards.

My point is, is that if none of you can make your points without having to resort to cheap pot shots, either directly at another poster or at another club, then you won't have a thread to post in. There's a rule, it's called TROLLING and is punishable by banning. (No shit, I didn't make this up, ask admin  ) I know they probably don't sound like pot shots to you when you write it but to the person/club it's aimed at, it is

What shits me most, is that some of you will blatantly take a pot shot and then come running to me when someone snipes them back.

I don't care how bloody passionate you are, if you can't stop and think "is what I write going to cause WWIII?, would I want someone to write this about my club?" then don't post it. It only makes you (and your club) look stupid. I think we're all capable of healthy discussion without this. There are many ways in which one can speak their minds without pissing people off. If someone finds one, please let me know ;)

Despite what you all think, I'm not here looking over you 24/7 - I can only do the best I can- but bugger me I'll go off if people start PMing me and having a go for not removing something., even though I removed something else. I'm not God, I don't see all.

Now when I decide to take the locks off this zoo, I'd like to see you all act like grown ups, which I know you all are - instead of childish little turds who have nothing better to do than abuse each other and make stupid and outlandish accusations on how much this person or team is getting paid. You can't prove it, so don't bother.

Div 6 is a bloody good comp this year, so let's focus on the positives, eh?

Any legitimate questions or concerns feel free to PM me, my door is always open.

Thanks
me xo

Re: SAAFL division 6 2014

All your points have been valid (ish), but they are based around the fact of growth development areas etc. Facts are, last year you had 3 sides, 1 of which played finals, the other missed out by %, both now dont exist. You dont see a mass exodus like that at a club with a vibrant and positive club environment. Im not having a crack at ya, but gee whiz Morell, surely the club has to shoulder some burden of blame here..

Using Rosewater as an example, in 2012 we finished with 1 win as a club, which was the last game played for the year.. Now, they have a C grade for the first time in 10 years, and more junior sides than they've had in years as well. All this in an area that has Portland less than a KM up the road, Port District a further 2km down said road, North Haven another km down the road, and SMOSH West Lakes only a 5 minute drive away..

I know you'll say that Rosewater pay players rar rar rar, but the fact is the B and C grade have majority of new players who dont get paid but have come to the club in the last season or 2, and they stay because of the environment..

Re: SAAFL division 6 2014

Shout out to the Central United coach - thought his address at three quarter time was perfect. Things were getting a bit fiery with old mate Woodward and I made an effort to lend an ear to see what they said. He defused everything perfectly and lead his charges well. Incident free last quarter ensued.

Well done.
Excellent example of how Central United have taking positive steps forward this year, and why those douche bags who dont play them or know better shouldn't jump in and bag the club on their misdemeanours or think they know about their culture and question when other clubs say they've been more disciplined etc.

..yes Jetters i'm looking at you ;)

Ok ok.... so from reading the comments below this, CU's probably best player, who is a known loose cannon, who has already been suspended this year, lost his temper badly enough to have to be escorted from the ground by his team mates, when this player obviously knows that if he had acted further on his anger his club would have been completely screwed?

Big congratulations to this player he did not resort to striking, poo smearing or spitting, or is that only because his team mates removed him??

I'm not saying the club isn't working to improve, just that to call them 'disciplined' is a obviously a load of rubbish. FFS, how many sides had to remove a player, with the aid of a number of team mates, because he can't control his anger and risk the consequences????

Maybe PG, youre just a massive douche bag.

Why don't you F**k off back to your own divisions thread Jetters and keep your nose out off our business as you have no idea on the work being done behind the scenes to comment I'm sick of reading your crap in a division you have nothing to do with.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 7 - 2015

Just wanted to take a quick moment to throw some love out there for Shane Lynch.

After being treated pretty unfairly by a bit of a media circus in 2014 I don't know of many people that would've got through it and decide to saddle up straight away and try again. Let alone with a club that lost by bigger margins than the ones he was pilloried for previously. Still surprises me that he took on the challenge.

The job he has done has been fantastic. His ability to relate to everyone, build relationships and gel everyone together has created a real team of blokes than genuinely care for each other and the club. Giving Lynchy a massive hug after the Adelaide Uni pre-lim win and seeing the obvious elation on his face and tears in his eyes was a great moment for me and it bought it home that football clubs are amazing places.

Win, lose or draw tomorrow I am incredibly proud of my footy club for not only giving Lynchy a chance to coach again and prove the doubters wrong but also for providing an environment where a potentially lost football person has come back to the fold and enjoyed himself.

Love ya guts Lynchy!

Some massive wins from the teams in the B Grade could the top 5 already be known after the first round? very doubtful just need a few players in the June/July period to head over to Europe to affect a sides chances.

Interesting to note
Pulteney had 9 Players from their Div 5 GF win last year play in Round 1
West Croydon had 0 players from their Div 6 GF last year play in Round 1

umm think if you check that out West Croydon had i think 9 players from their Division 6 Grand Final side play Saturday against Salisbury West.

Re: Adelaide Footy League D7 - 2017

So this week is a huge occasion for us down at Mitchell Park. Club legend, local character, champion footballer, family man and all around great bloke, Nat McDonnell, is playing in his 300th game.

http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/ac142/mellingham/Nat_2015_zpseppx0nrr.jpg

It’s funny whenever I say I am involved with Mitchell Park, almost every time they’ll know either Joe Leck or the McDonnell’s. Even recently against TTG their full forward asked me if the bloke at the other end was one of the “famous twins”. On a personal level I feel like I know Nat better than most, but when I think about it, I reckon just about everyone that has spent time with him would say that. Nat has that ability that so few have to be able to make you feel like his best mate – almost instantly.

http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/ac142/mellingham/Nat_FootyTrip_zps3k54qwi8.jpg

There are so many Nat stories I could tell, some of them decidedly NSFW and would involve copious amounts of streaking, skulling, close escapes and hilarity. Some are too personal. The one I’ll put on safooty is one that no-one has heard as it’s specifically unique to me and my friendship with the freckled one…

I was in I think just about my first year of senior footy – at least the first year that I played regular A Grade. Having not grown up with football I didn’t really understand what some of the social graces and faux pas were – and still don’t. I was about 20, a Uni student, raised by a hippy single Mum, didn’t drink beer, very much molly coddled and protected from the realities of the world – summed up I was very much an outsider to the culture of a decidedly blue collar, Aussie ocker, confident, classically bogan Mitchell Park Football Club. Knowing that it was good for me to get out of my comfort zone I played and did my best anyway.

The Coach at the time decided to try and get us to bond together as a team after a couple of losses by getting everyone in a circle and taking turns to pick out their favourite player, go over to them, present them with their guernsey and explain why they chose them. Bit of positive reinforcement I suppose. Being introverted, new to the sport and a bit of a social pariah I instantly felt pretty shitty and figured this wasn’t going to go well for me. I still didn’t know that many people and certainly didn’t have that many friends yet.

http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/ac142/mellingham/Maccas_zps69fazduy.jpg

A couple of people took their turns and it went as expected. Mates picked their other mates. Nat’s turn came around. He straight way made a bee-line for… me!

At the time Nat was the best player in the team. Recent Best and Fairest winner, funny, popular, life member, talented - pretty much a God in my eyes. He gave me my guernsey, said I always went in hard despite being skinny (ha!) and did my best for the team, scruffed my hair and walked back to his spot. To be clear, I was decidedly average as a footballer. Nat and I had a couple of conversations but nothing in depth - he really could’ve picked about 20 guys ahead of me but must of sensed my trepidation. At the time I felt like he had crowned me King of the World. That was 13 years ago.

http://www.mitchellparkfc.com/_/rsrc/1327061891752/file-cabinet/archive/nat-mcdonnell/07022009040.jpg

So this weekend for us is about thanking him and recognising everything he has done for Mitchell Park, and for me on a personal level for providing that little bit of acceptance that kept me around the place as the MPFC has been a huge part of my life.

Onya Grabba! Thank you! I know your family are incredibly proud of you. Beers are on us. Please don’t throw up in the cigarette bin.

Unless they're all returning juniors or players, surely points would be an issue for them? Will have great depth though...

Jeff Lines is a returning Lonsdale Junior and A Grade Premiership player. Since they have a chance to not lose by 20 goals every game many former players have returned. Plenty of 0 pointers amongst the recruits.

No tips submitted will result in you getting what the lowest point scorer for the round got, 3 missed rounds will see you removed from the comp.

The fast growing suburbs of the Seafords are the main reason for porties gains.

If that was solely the case then the Shoes and Aldinga should have kids everywhere also, which they don't. They will. Just a smidge behind timing wise.

The demographic change and structural plans for the deep south will rival the growth in the North.
