Re: Clearances - 2017

The league is losing control for mine.
It's not right for them to apply different penalties if you stay or go.
It's not right for them to block clearances.

But what's really alarming is the recent communication they sent out to all clubs basically asking clubs to threaten players who want to transfer to another league saying we wont let you back in for upto 5 years. That's a joke and to be honest if it ever got challenged I'm not sure it would hold up.

Jimmy, interested to hear your thoughts given you've often been playing the card "the SAAFL get more players than we loose" and "the SAAFL aren't worried about players leaving".

These latest actions from HQ certainly go against that mantra!

What Q & Jo said
The CFL were contractually bound to force the other leagues to comply with what they agreed to do for next season
They reneged so we have merely done what we threatened to do

Just as aside, did you know the BL&G have a rule that you can't recruit from within the BL&G? So, using your R&Rs to protect your interests does have a precedent.
As for legal action; have a go. I'm sure you'll find out why it wouldn't work. Alternatively, declare your payment as a salary and you might have a better chance. After all, the $$$$$ aren't the important thing; are they?

Re: Ch9AFL Division 1 - 2017

Well clubs like Broadview have had juniors for a very long time. Why do I see sons of Broadview legends playing for other clubs?
I have been involved with PAOC for 40 years and in this last 7 years, I have never seen a group of people work harder to cultivate their juniors into joining the old scholars club. Never. Many of those players are zero pointers for both old scholars and a district side.

The difference between now and 20 years ago is some district clubs can't go out and spend a zillion $ to buy a new team every year.

Re: Abbott/Liberal Govt Watch

I only heard about Corey's potential new party for the first time last week...
Clearly he has been doing the numbers and thinks it's worthwhile, for the long term.
If anything it's also a big **** to Turnbull and his fans.
I'm not necessarily a fan of Corey, but I would vote for him over Turnbull. You know where you stand with Corey, Turnbull puts everything on the table for reform and then when there is a backlash against changes he slowly takes it off the table and we are back to where it started and nothing happens.
I think Corey and Pauline probably took a lot out of Trump's victory in the us and can see a political future with that style of politics, even though Pauline was voted in before Trump, that may have just been the rebel vote against the major parties then.

Interesting times.

Turnbull is turning into the same lame duck PM has Rudd and Gillard

Re: The South Australian Political Landscape

Pretty easy to see how Trump got elected when people don't like the politicians from either side who, let's face it, are only in it for themselves

I think it's not just the politicians the public have grown tired of but the "yes" men/women who maintain their bureaucratic positions regardless of who holds office and continue to show high levels of ineptitude attempting to complete their day to day tasks. Health, Families SA as some wonderfully terrible examples.

The fact the spineless politicians do nothing about changing people in these roles shows how meek they are.

As such, I propose senior positions in departments are aligned to elections and a government change should see a change in senior departmental positions. Perhaps then voters could actually consider a change in party as making a change to the day to day running of important departments.

You forget the "fearless and frank advice" doctrine, but, unfortunately, this Govt has belted that out of the PS
Anyone else getting sick of seeing the departments heads all lined up behind the Minister in his press release?

Yep, I guess that takes away the "faceless men" argument.

Turned them into "nodding men & women"

Re: Abbott/Liberal Govt Watch

Sean was 5th on the ticket
That's nowhere near 2nd
5 candidates to pick from, 4 spots on the ticket. Take away number 1, that gives number 5 a gig as everyone shifts up a rung. Unless someone else was always in the running to oust Edwards.

Yeah, I know what you meant
Just this is slightly different (ie) Bernardi took Edwards spot at 2

the bloke who got ousted on the Liberal's senate ticket for Bernardi's spot

Birmingham and Bernardi got their mates in at 3 & 4 leaving him at 5

Re: AFLW - Womens AFL

Good on Jay to get on the bandwagon and give another $275,000 on top of the same amount last year to the corporation: Adelaide Football Club Ltd to boost its profit, sorry; "its female focussed grassroots football and schools programs"
http://www.afc.com.au/news/2017-02-19/state-government-boost-for-womens-footy

Too bad they have never contributed any funding, despite many requests, to the actual grassroots competition (ie) the SAWFL
Neither the SA Govt nor the SANFL wanted anything to do with SAWFL until now
Good of the SAAFL to take it over and run it when no-one else wanted it

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 3 - 2017

But very wide Suri. Took our guys a while in all grades to work out where they could shoot at goal or not. Distance from goal seemed difficult to gauge for our lads. A "50 metre" line that is marked at 43.5 metres (so I was told) probably didn't help. Our blokes have a big adjustment to make with the style of umpiring and how the opposition plays to that style. But overall it was a nice return to the SAAFL on a great autumn day and one of the nicer grounds in metro Adelaide (when its dry). And the Walkerville Ladies Day was an added bonus!!!

 really DTH? Anywhere from centre at Walkerville, it's a postage stamp

Re: Adelaide Footy League D7 - 2017

finn, help me out.

Before the game I said to our coach that the Southern end of your ground always has more goals kicked than the North, to the point that when I was coaching I played a +1 at that end to start with. The term I used is it almost works like a funnel. Pop it up and the ball seems to fly though much easier.

I was unmercifully mocked and laughed at. There were even sarcastic cries of "use the funnel!" from the sideline on occasions.

Is this your experience? Tell me I am not crazy.

Please note this will be used as evidence to support my argument.

Like the former PAOC coach who told us it was easier running into the wind because you get more air in your lungs (That wasn't a pi$$take either)

While we're at it, a person can be biased not bias. A person may have a bias, but cannot be bias in the human form.

Simply bias is a noun, biased is an adjective. I get this one wrong sometimes.

The other one is affect or effect. ****** if I know which one to use most of the time.

Affect - what something will do in the future

Effect - what happened in the past.

No one will know the affect that Morrell will have on the game.

Morell wasn't very effective at all.

Incorrect

Morell should affect the outcome of the game
