Re: Good Movies

Hacksaw Ridge

I found it quite unbelievable
The Japanese weren't that dumb and the Yanks that smart or lucky
Would have been more at home if released during the war as a propaganda movie
Reading about the man it seems if the story was going to be strictly true and include everything it wouldve been even more unbelievable.

Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk

I watched it a while ago, and cant remember the most unbelievable bit, but it was something like running through 40 Japs whilst carrying someone on his back

Did a umpire get assaulted on Saturday ?
What did you hear?
On field or off field?

Actually not too sure tbh, but a player that played told me. Apparently the club in question has lost all there premiership points ?? The Alleged club has a pretty bad history when it comes to on field problems & is or has been on strict rules from SAAFL ??

I don't know of any incident to which you refer

Fair conflict of interest if he is.

Yep he is

I always thought you should have an upstanding member of the community as your character witness
He deserves another 4 games for pulling this prix in

Just on the media: Since when is providing a character witness statement "intervening" or did I miss something?

And the Schofield one was a joke. I hope Oliver cops it big time for a while

Re: MRP

It was graded Intentional/High/High Impact, so the High Impact covers the fact that he was knocked out. Tribunal chairman, Ross Howie pointed out that all there has to be is an intention to strike Lamb, regardless of where the blow might land or whether there was an intention to hurt. I believe he wil end up with 4 down to 3...which is about right in my eyes

If that be the case, he'd be out for 8 - 10 with us even with a clean record
From what I saw, and our manual, I'm still sitting with 6 - 8
He deliberately hit him. Too bad whether he's a nice guy or not

Any league official can report though.

Eg; If Jimmy was at a PNU v TTG game, he could make a report, however he couldn't make a report at a PAOC v anyone game.

Just like Youngy could make a report at any game but an Athelstone game, etc, etc....

I think that's how it works anyway. EM or Jimmy may wish to correct me.

Umpires from previous matches can also report

Correct

But I wouldn't do it

Re: The South Australian Political Landscape

Here you go Ian

For General Government Sector, FTE have increased every year over the past 6 years other than in 2013 - 14 (Att #1)
The 2017 budget says the 30/6/17 figure will be 82,190 so its still going up
This is despite the Govt paying $377.6m between 2010 and 2015 in separation packages (Att #2)
Surprise, surprise, the media picked up on the cost of separations and the fact PS numbers were still going up so the Govt just omitted this information from the past 2 budgets. When the stats show your incompetence; just get rid of them

To your question about whats currently happening:

According to the 2017-18 budget:
1. The Actual as at 6/16 was 81,388
2. The Estimate as at 12/16 was 81,623
3. The Estimate as at 6/16 is 82,190

Therefore, General Govt FTE numbers are budgeted to jump another 802 in this past 12 months
They have also budgeted for that number to increase to 82,269 as at 6/18

So, anecdotally, you are seeing cuts (and I have some friends who have been forced out as well) but, unlike the government and its spin doctors, the stats don't lie. I'll do some research on the change in mix of employees over the past 7 years. No doubt there will be a trend

I have a set of numbers somewhere on this administrations Budget v Actual YE 2014 v 2017 (ie) how have they fared compared with their initial budget when elected and its not a pretty sight. They are just lucky no-one in the media is capable of understanding a budget and set of accounts. And that's also the basis of my theory on what this bank tax is all about.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 1 - 2017

I still find it to be a very curious anomaly that Club's on AAAs (aside from SN) appear to be able to avoid suspensions, but the second they get off they appear to find themselves back in trouble. Consider North Pines, Smithfield, Salisbury West and Ingle Farm as recent graduates off AAAs, with impeccable behaviour during the AAA, all of whom have spent more time at the Tribunal this year than they would have cared for.

Now I acknowledge it's a small sample size, but it would suggest that when the mind is properly applied Clubs are entirely capable of controlling the discipline of their playing group.

I appreciate it's a poor look, coming off and suddenly re-offending, but it's definitely not a deliberate act or that (in our case) a relaxing of our standards and expectations.

We (Ingle Farm) didn't even inform our members they were off the AAA when it was lifted , even after our first report we told the players we were still on it and it was still being discussed, so that hopefully they'd remain focused on football, and not get complacent in their behavior.

Complacency has definitely crept in though, when i reflect back over the previous few years, there was a constant drive/emphasis on behavior and the repercussions for the club as a whole - mostly driven from the playing group during games - players would pull players out of hazardous situations, or moving away/bringing themselves off from retaliating to incidents.

Go without incident for an extended period of time, and rightly or wrongly that seems to slip a little bit from the mind - you become comfortable and assume people are going to continue to do the right things.

That's not to say we still don't stress the importance of discipline and behavior as a club.

Also FWIW the two reports we had this year are both recruits for 2017 :P

Re: Sydney Swans

Kurt Tippett toiling in the reserves as Adelaide Crows and Sydney Swans count the cost, says Warren Tredrea
Warren Tredrea, The Advertiser
July 26, 2017 6:00pm

Kurt Tippett — it’s a name that stirs emotions and polarises opinion.

Once a marquee Adelaide Crow, now a Sydney Swan who’s currently toiling away in the NEAFL hoping for a recall to the big league.

Football stands still for no one — no matter how much potential and talent you have.

At the end of 2012, the out-of-contract Tippett walked out of West Lakes after it was revealed both the player and his former club Adelaide had breached salary cap and draft rules.

Both parties were heavily punished for their roles in one of the AFL’s largest salary cap and draft tampering rorts.

Tippett was banned for the first 11 AFL matches of the 2013 season. The Crows lost their first and second round picks of the 2013 draft and were fined $300,000.

The story was huge, but the Crows fans’ angst hit the roof after Tippett walked and Adelaide got nothing in return.

The Swans licked their lips, acquiring a key forward for the miserly sum of pick 11 in 2013 pre-season draft, on a massive four-year $4 million deal.

Fast forward to 2017 and he hasn’t offered value for money for the Swans — while the team he left, Adelaide, is top of the table.

Sure it hasn’t all been doom and gloom — he burst out of the blocks once his suspension was served in 2013, kicking 35 goals in 12 games and was solid again in 2015 kicking 44 goals.

He’s also played in two losing grand finals — in 2014 and 2016. Close but no cigar.

But in between we have seen form and confidence struggles and regular injury interruptions with hip, knee and ankle complaints restricting him to 58 games in four years.

Kurt has had to adapt to new roles at the Swans. First he was recruited as a power forward, a role perfectly suited to his game on the small SCG.

It lasted only two seasons before the Swans acquired Lance Franklin in free agency on a nine-year, $10 million deal — with media dubbing them the “Bondi billionaires”.

They struggled to work in tandem and we briefly saw Tippett find career-best form in the ruck before the injury curse bit.

Right now he’s in the Swans reserves, dominating the substandard NEAFL. And while he’s fresh off a five-goal haul in a 146-point win, he’s clearly the Swans third-ranked ruckman behind Sam Naismith and ruck/forward Callum Sinclair — who kicked five goals on the weekend against the Saints.

At 30 years of age and with the injury god continuing to bite, Tippett’s best football is clearly behind him.

The issue for the Swans is he still has three seasons to run on his contract — with his deal set to expire in 2020, making it almost impossible for Sydney to trade him.

After originally arriving on a four-year deal, Tippett has twice extended his contract in the harbour city, at a reduced level to ease salary cap pressure, meaning he’ll fall out of contract at the ripe old football age of 33.

Tippett’s has never been a natural footballer and, as it stands, it looks unlikely we will ever see him fulfil his potential.

Twice his clubs have been desperate for his services and they have suffered totally different consequences — making him a very rich man in the process.

Adelaide paid the price for compromising its football club for one player. And the Swans have paid overs for a player who doesn’t dominate consistently enough at the top level.

Both are examples of the club’s desperation to retain Tippett as a player, when they have big money at their disposal.

That’s why a carefully thought-out wage structure and salary cap spending will always win in the long run.

Clubs must pick their marquee targets wisely. Fail to do so and you will suffer serious salary cap consequences for years to come.

Why are we still bowing to the conservative left?

Let the state run the state, let the church run the church, let anyone who wants to get married get married.

That's the interesting thing about all of this
There is an element of very conservative left who oppose it as well
I did hear their names but can't remember them

In addition, you have Atkinson here in SA who continues to actively oppose voluntary euthanasia and reform of prostitution laws till death do him part
Kenyon is the same, and said his stand was influenced by his religious beliefs and the concept of euthanasia was fundamentally flawed.
Funny how they are all for sticking to some tenets but not others.

Jimmy's right, the plebiscite was liberal policy at the last election, so fair enough that as the party in power they sought to implement it. The reason its not going ahead is the senate, and the reason that's a cluster **** is Turnbull made a miscalculation and called the election at the wrong time. With a majority in both houses, and bada-bing, you get your plebiscite (for better or worse).

The good thing is Bovver Boy Bill will have to deal with the same problem when he gets into power

Iv coached at SANFL level mate and I can tell you its bloody hard work. It does not matter how good a coach you are if you dont have the cattle (ie players leave or none recruited) and the lads arent prepared to do the extra yards to be successful you will fail. Also if the club is not giving you the resources to be successful then you again will fail. While coaches are judged on the win/losses there are numerous things that could determine if you succeed or fail.

Not ideal though. Particularly if the 1R game is tight

What's more important though. Surely A Grade takes priority, people get a bit hung up on B Grade, who really cares bar the players and parents.

My understanding is that he committed to the B Grade coaching job early in the piece and had to initially be coaxed into playing A Grade. You'd think as coach he'd have some emotional attachment to their success or failure.

Last week we were 2 goals down when he had to go, and won by 7 points

On Behalf of Pooraka Football Club just like to thank Kenilworth Football club for putting on a great day. BBQ was pumping and tasted great the Coffee guy they hired heard was top notch but sadly must have sold out by the time A grade started.

A grade congrats to Glenunga top side all year Pooraka worked hard and going into half time 3 goals down thought we could run over the top. Glenunga came out and kicked first 3 and at the start of the final term we were 6 goals down bit of a blow out towards the end but while not winning will hurt the players going into Div 4 is a nice reward for the hard work also.

B grade Lockleys congrats on making the G.F to come from 4th and beat Blacks and CBC who during the season were both top 3 sides is something to work on. Pooraka B grade work rate was top notch worked hard as a team and the hard work we done preseason paid all 3 games against Lockleys have been top notch the score line does not reflect how intense our games actually are...

Re: The South Australian Political Landscape

Michael Pratt nailing it in Letters to the Editor

Cunning genius

WHAT a tactical genius is Jay Weatherill. The biggest issues going into the March election are health and energy. Jack Snelling’s polling in Florey showed he would lose his seat to independent Francis Bedford. Why spend $200,000 campaigning and suffer an embarrassing loss?
Leesa Vlahos, embattled former Mental Health minister couldn’t fufill all her executive duties and resigns via a letter.
Jay had already endorsed her for Number 1 spot on the Upper House ticket as Ms Vlahos takes the place of Peter Malinauskas who picks up the two health portfolios.
Jack picks up a $245,000 pension indexed for life, Ms Vlahos picks up $2.1 million for eight years and never has to see another constituent.

No doubt about it, Jay is a cunning genius.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 6 - 2017

Lindsay Bassani is that the guy from the news who wanted his home detention bracelet taken of so he could play football his reason was he didnt want the other players to pay him out ?
Half correct.. don't think his reasoning had anything to do with being teased, just he wasn't allowed to play with the bracelet on and from memory was being paid to play footy so wanted to play?

He should go to Greenacres

Re: The meh/not good/not bad movies

The remake of IT

Nothing flash to be honest.

I agree. I took Mrs HH3 to watch it last night.

I think the first hour or so was good. After that, it seemed to lose it's suspense and scariness. Also, the story's not put together very well. It seemed to really drag on towards the end.

A lot of the effects made it funny, more than scary.

Didn't scare the pants off her?

She did jump a few times. It only got me once.

And yes, we had intercourse later that night.

 Glad I didn't ask whether it scared the $hit out of her.....
