We know when they all believe he was born, Christmas Day

But they can't make up their minds when he "died" and came back, that changes every year. Now, call me cynical , but if something like a dead bloke rolling a boulder away from the entry of a cave and returned from the dead doesn't encourage you to write the date down for prosperity , what does????
They did record the date, but they used a lunar calendar.

Pure SANFL ladder, 2015

The second year of occupation is under way, and as of round 2 the farce of trial matches against reserves teams from a foreign league has begun. Time to resurrect the Pure Ladder, by which we can measure the performance of the 8 teams in evenly matched contests against each other.

.............P...W...D.....F......A......%
Norwood......2...2...0....155....112....58.05
South........1...1...0.....97.....77....55.75

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Just kicking the two teams out of the SANFL may make the small number of people on this forum happy but there is a wider football community that also need to be considered when getting the right model.
Clowns reserves make an even smaller number of people happy, given that two dozen people turn up to their matches - and you have the temerity to speak of benefit to a "wider football community"?

Ladder to round 7. The Panthers suffer their first loss and tumble from top to fifth, with the four teams previously below them all having wins. Glenelg loses more than three full percentage points after today's pants-down bum-spanking yet still remains ahead of the also-winless Roosters.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

But the delegate is appointed by the club to represent the club, correct?
Appointed by the club, but to be impartial. At Glenelg's information night Nick Chigwidden explained that the vote was his alone to make and that he had to do it not in the interests of Glenelg but in the interests of the SANFL.

I am not excusing how he or five other delegates voted. A lot of people voiced concerns to them before the vote was made. In many cases these concerns were ignored, or given token recognition via "information nights" which had no bearing on the delegates' decision. Fair to say that most of these concerns have since been demonstrated to be well-founded.

Re: Pure SANFL ladder, 2015

Pseudo, how do the finals of the pure cup work? My side is in 5th position, do we have to get to 4th in order to qualify, or is it a top 5 with an elimination, qualifying, 2 semis and a preliminary before the granny?

If by fate the top five teams on the Pure Ladder (tm) happen to match those on the official ladder then the official finals series can be regarded as Good and Pure and worthy of recognition.

If not then the ordained finals matchups are the result of contamination by eastern league garbage. The official finals series will be tainted and illegitimate. In this case we can only recognise two achievements:
Pure Minor Premier, as the best performed dinkum team over the 14 matches against the other dinkum teams.
Best Performed Team in a Compromised Competition, as the highest-ranking dinkum team on the contaminated official ladder after finals.

This is of course ridiculous and makes a mockery of the whole competition. Nevertheless it is much less ridiculous than treating two teams of professional players with two special sets of rules and for whom victory is a secondary concern, as equal and worthy participants in Our Sovereign League. I note that the only way to fix this farcical situation is the same way to fix the proper competition: kick out the rubbish teams. NO AFL IN THE SANFL.

Re: R11: Glenelg v Norwood - Sunday 28 June @ Gliderol

https://noplasticshowers.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/hell-frozen.jpg?w=480

Played four quarters for the first time in yonks. Waited all game for the quarter fade out and it never came. Even in the final with the Legs coming home hard and the game in the balance they didn't drop their heads.

Not that the Bays game could be without criticism. A few players made silly handballs running forwards, to players under the pump. They persisted in switching the play by kicking backwards and across the face of goals. Just for a change they managed to get away with it every time; Norwood never made them pay for it. In fact Norwood seemed to have their foot off the pedal for the entire first half. I don't think Norwood treated the Bays with adequate respect. By the time they realised that Glenelg was going to give them a challenge they were 5 goals down and up against it.

Terry Milera should win mark of the year for his effort in the final term - hope the injury he sustained on returning to terra firma will not keep him out next week. Fair to say that that effort iced the game for the Tigers.

Norwood will be playing well into September. When they turned it on they were good, and they won't be taking games against the Eagles or Bloods lightly.

Now I get to bask in the glow of sheer joy when one's team knocks off the ladder leader. For six whole days I get to kid myself that my rabble is not crap :D

Re: R11: North v West - Saturday 27 June @ Prospect Oval

First time I'd seen Westies in a long time, well done to Mickan and Co on having West playing a much more attractive brand of footy than the crap they played under Collins.

Well said. Mickan is doing a great job.
Always had the utmost respect for him, he got respect for the Bays which no one had been able to do for decades and the silly bastards got rid of him and went backwards again, Wests gain though!
Not wanting to sound patronising, but when West tore the Bays a new orifice at Glenelg earlier this year, I commented to my mates how West's play reminded me very much of Glenelg under Mickan. I don't have any special feeling for Westies but given that my mob won't be there this year then I hope the Bloods can give it a shake for Rubbers' sake. I also hope that a certain ex-president of Glenelg takes notice.

Tricksy Jehovah's Witnesses.

Two weeks ago the J-Hos came around. I was caught by surprise so I heard them out and took their brochure. They asked if I was ever home on a Wednesday so they could come back and talk to me. I said 'Not really - occasionally, I guess.' So today I get a knock on the door. I realise it's Wednesday and think nope, I'm not answering the door. Then I hear a small child's voice and immediately assume it's my best mate, because she sometimes drops around with her little boy. I go to the door and it's the J-Hos holding a baby. ](*,) That's ten minutes of my life I won't get back.

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews

Now servo pies are fair game for this thread, FFS?

Right, the bar has been lowered. I'm dropping it further:

The vending machine in the foyer of building W, Mawson Lakes campus, University of South Australia, last Tuesday

Felt like a bit of a treat with my afternoon coffee - nothing flash, just hot water in a mug with a coffee bag - so I stopped at the vending machine on the way back from the staff room.

The machine was clean and the glass was perfectly transparent, affording me a perfect view of the gaudy wares for sale. I already had a Summer Roll in mind, and though the Nestle Crunch bar called to me with its austere red white and blue wrapper, the Summer Roll won my selection. Two sixty in shrapnel, having been scraped from the lower recesses of my desk drawer just 5 minutes previously, was fed coin by coin into the slot. The machine tallied the money perfectly. Not one coin was rejected, which was appreciated 'coz I hate having to scrabble about in the return bay to feed coins back into the machine. The buttons were clean and responded to pressing with a satisfying beep. The Summer Roll was dropped unceremoniously into the receptacle but was undamaged, due in no small part to the item's location near the bottom of the machine. The flap over the receptacle was a little hard to push but the item was retrieved without serious problem.

Ambience was resonable, as far as vending machines go. Being in the foyer the lighting was relatively good. To my right the glass doors opened onto a leafy car park. There was no other clientele around; though a grad student might have snuck past behind me while I diddled with the buttons. The calibre of the food was average: chocolate, coconut, nougat; yer standard Summer Roll.

Nothing special, but I'll be back, mostly out of convenience. 5/10.

It must be good because we are told so. Now what does that remind me of...

only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was

swallowed it easily, with the stupidity of an animal. The eyeless creature
at the other table swallowed it fanatically, passionately, with a furious
desire to track down, denounce, and vaporize anyone who should suggest that
last week the ration had been thirty grammes. Syme, too--in some more
complex way, involving doublethink, Syme swallowed it. Was he, then, ALONE
in the possession of a memory?"

Re: Pure SANFL ladder, 2015

Congratulations WWT Eagles, Pure Minor Premiers (tm) for the 2015 season. 3 games clear on top of the ladder. Lost only one game: their first, in round 2, by only six points to the eventual second-placed Bloods. This means that the Eagles have won 13 games on the trot.

At the other end of the table the poor old Roosters take the Pure Spoon (tm) without winning a single game against a worthy opponent. On average North's score was doubled by its opponent.

Once again the Panthers can claim to have been dudded by the inclusion of rubbish in the SANFL's league ranks. South performed better than 5 of its opponents, yet it misses finals in the corrupt "official" competition thanks to the vagaries of competition against professionals. Integrity and relevance my hairy white arsehole.

Good luck the the remaining four teams in the "official" competition. May they each do their best to become the Highest Finishing Dinkum Team in a Compromised Competition.

Re: The 2015 Attendance Comparisons Thread

First time since probably 100 years ago that average attendance was below 2500 per game. Thanks AFL sides.
Will be under 2k next year, many others like myself are ready to walk. In the group of 8 I go with regularly 6 have already decided they are out. Myself and one other are uncomitted as yet, waiting to see if Port win it. Between the 8 of us we spent approx $40k at the club on memberships, player sponsors etc

Once again I ask, what business looks to ensure its future by alienating and actively driving away its core customers?

At the GFC information night I asked a question along the lines of "why don't you consider admitting the Blows into the reserves competition initially, with the potential to elevate them to league ranks in the next year if it worked out"?

The Glenelg delegate's answer was all to succinct: "The Blows don't want that." Next question.

Clearly the delegates no longer see the club members and fans as its core customers *. Rather, they see the Blows, and by extension the Smears, as the clients which must be catered to. With this in mind, I think that the SANFL is satisfying its (perceived) core customers all too well.

Re: The 2015 Attendance Comparisons Thread

These are the average crowds for each team in Pure Ladder (tm) order. The first column is average crowd over all pure games (home and away). The second column is average crowds over all games including forced trials against other-league garbage.

Eagles 2216 2379
West 2161 2158
South 2122 2033
Norwood 3263 3235
Central 2188 2106
Sturt 2918 2844
Glenelg 2650 2633
North 2105 2095

Only one club's attendances were consistently improved by considering the gate at trial games: The Eagles. The inclusion of rubbish teams has damaged attendances for 7 of the 8 clubs.

--------

Now these are the average home * crowds. First column is the average home crowd against the other 7 Pure teams, second column the average figure over two home trials against the Blows and third column the crowd at the single home trial against the Smears.

* - caveat: by "home" I really mean "first named".

Eagles 1954 3472 2272
West 1942 1640 2195
South 1769 1406 1683
Norwood 3712 2434 2163
Central 2005 1651 2433
Sturt 2857 2928 2440
Glenelg 3359 2872 2723
North 2026 2196 1964

Average home crowd at games against the Slows was below average for 5 of the 8 clubs.
Home crowd against the PAPs was below average for 5 of the 8 clubs.

So much for the "rejuvenation of the league" that was forecast at certain information nights.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Yes, the reserves will be 8 teams, 4 games per week. Excellent maths.

Hopefully you can add up that one team, per week, will have the league and the reserves playing at different locations. Meaning support staff can't be at both. Now, that won't work, will it?

The SANFL clubs have managed an 8 team comp with the U/18s playing at different venues for a few years now. No reason the reserves couldn't play curtain raisers to the juniors once in a while - particularly since they'd also be on an 8-team fixture.

Nevertheless "Adelaide needs a reserves-reserves team so the SANFL clubs don't have to play separate reserve games" is possibly the flimsiest reason I have yet seen in favour of interloper interests.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

On Channel 9 News last night Tredrea said the SANFL Commission will be making a decision after the Grand Final as to whether AFL Reserves will be limited to 14 per game next year and whether Port will lose their home games.

Now is the time to let your club know what you want!

Will the vote also dictate the future of the smears' reserves reserves side?

While well short of the Only Real Solution to this mess, it would be a step in the right direction. I would welcome the change as much as I would welcome the signs that the commission is starting to assert itself in matters pertaining to the interlopers.

A positive vote from the Glenelg delegate, along with a stated intent to further limit the interlopers, would be enough to see me resume membership of the club.

"Morell". Interesting name for a troll. A morell is a kind of mushroom, innit?

Because they'd have to drastically cut down on the infomercials for the Shark Rotator (tm)?

Since you did the hard work for me I thought I'd better take a look

Q5:

If you have been a Glenelg Football Club Member in the past, but are no longer signed up, what are your main reasons for not re-joining?
Cannot attend games
Time poor
Prefer to attend AFL games
Do not see value in the membership
Cost
Moved interstate
Team results
Other (please specify)

The club didn't even list "because the president voted yes to let the Crows in without regard for member concerns, then voted yes to let the Power in under even less favourable conditions". Talk about sticking the head in the sand...

Re: Reserves Finals - Week 1

Excellent news: the official Grand Final day match program will be a garbage-free affair. North Adelaide will meet the Eagles in the reserves Grand Final.

Re: Things that give you the sh1ts

Is there something wrong with the quote function on the forum or are people increasingly bad at using it? Thread after thread of unreadable posts due to posts ending with /quote] and not knowing where the new and old posts are

the forum software only allows a certain amount of quotes to be embedded. people need to go and delete the parts of the post that they arent directly referencing
Some people on here ain't that smart Benny.
Yeah. Moderators. ;)
