Re: Things that give you the sh1ts

Teaching at uni level...In English, many of them can't spell and have no concept of how to structure an essay,

When I was in 3rd year of a computer science major there were folks in my classes who didn't know how to program. The next year I scored a gig doing first-year tutorials. There were three blokes who would habitually turn up and tick their names off the roll and promptly piss off again - but not before scrawling racist epithets next to all the asian names on the roll. These dumb twits clearly didn't realise that I marked their assignments too

There are just too many games to choose from with the C64....the Olympics generally killed the joysticks

I set up my own makeshift cockpit for the driving games in particular Scalextrix by getting an old quilt which ran over the top of the monitor and myself to block out any unwanted, unnecessary distractions....

Does anyone else think it's kind of awkies that the ABC are putting sex and porn shows on the ABC Kids channel when they've got 4 other channels to choose from?

It doesn't bother me personally but any kid who decides to turn on the telly to channel 23, thinking they might catch some Peppa Pig, might get some premature sex ed instead:lol:
The other day I turned on channel 23 hoping for something a bit frisky, but I had to settle for Mister Maker...

Re: Things that give you the sh1ts

Why do you feel the need to have imaginary friends? Mind altering substances and religion aren't that different from each other.

An imaginary friend is something someone makes up that no one else knows or sees. God is very different to that.

also, drawing a comparison between (predominantly) illegal activity that most o the time is detrimental to the body and following God is a long bow to draw.

On a side note, religion doesnt alter anything... but that's another kettle of fish all together.

So why do you/people take mind altering substances?

The druggies should envy you NG.

You are able to hallucinate the presence of imaginary beings without the need to ingest expensive and dangerous chemicals.

Or perhaps your pastor has been dipping the Host (tm) into mescaline?

Harden up some of you. I expect none of you will attend another SANFL game the way some carry on.

Credit to Sturt for trying to make things work. Obviously said , well no Crows fans rock up at Unley so why not try and make some money by exploring a collaborative agreement. Hats off to clubs that actually THINK .
Any club which could THINK would have voted NO to this shemozzle in the first place.

Re: There are a lot of my friends thinking of leaving SA.

It's all relative. Cost of living here is lower than the other states. Me, I wouldn't live in Sydney if you tripled my income. Full of Sydney wankers. Melbourne, maybe, but I hate Melbourne weather. Brisbane, possibly, I like Brisbane. Perth would be my pick, but the boom has come and gone and now Perth is just mega expensive to buy property, eat, shop, etc etc.

Depending on what you do, what your goals are in life, I couldn't think of a better place to live than Adelaide.

^ What he said, almost to the letter.

A few years back I was on a Jetstar flight (which is a peeve in itself, but belongs on another thread) returning from the Sunshine Coast via Sydney. I got stuck next to a couple of overweight boorish yobbos who spent the flight attempting to be funny to each other. The limited conversation I had with one of them went as follows.

Arsehole: Where are you headed?
Me: Adelaide.
Arsehole: Oh, don't get off there.
Me: I live there.
Arsehole: You know what Adelaide is, don't you? Proof Tasmanians can swim.

At which point I smiled politely and gave a token chuckle, resisting the urge to reply with "Well if you don't go to Adelaide then the place has at least one thing going for it". That is a general truth: All the arseholes in the country avoid Adelaide as if it was suffering a plague. Let those chauvinists stay in their Eastern State Shitholes. This goes a long way towards making Adelaide the best city to reside in.

Re: financial projections

Glenelg lost people with the appalling way that they chose to treat their members with the refusal to allow them any say in the vote on admitting the AFC to the SANFL, it would be fair to say the GFC had the worst 'consultation' of any of the clubs and members were openly treated with contempt. - The same group of members the board needs to step in and save the club.
I don't know that Glenelg's was the worst. IIRC Sturt didn't even 'consult' with its members; the Blues delegate voted Yes and that was it.

Not trying to defend Glenelg here. I know a number of people who dropped membership as a result of Chiggy's vote. This number would not be a majority, but significant nonetheless. I imagine the same is true of the membership of the other 5 bendover clubs.

At that information night Chiggy expressed grave concern for the future of the club and the league in its then-current state and opined that admitting the clowns into the league would breathe new life into it: media coverage would increase, the Clowns would help promote games at Glenelg, interest in the league would rise, and the Clowns would pay all SANFL clubs for the privilege of playing in the league.

Fair to say that after 2 years very little of this has eventuated. Media coverage is no greater; apart from a single page of writeups hidden 20 pages deep in the sport section and a ten-second recital of scores from around the grounds on the evening news bulletin, there is nothing - unless there is either news pertinent to the clowns or the smears (Jpod pushing for selection after 10 goal bag!), or significant bad news concerning one of the sovereign clubs (Bays/Eagles/Bloods up against the wall!). I have seen no attempt by either AFL club to promote games in the zones of the clubs in which they are scheduled to play. Allegedly some clowns players turned up at a shopping mall with a few Bays players once ... but I've yet to hear of AFL clubs visiting the school at which my kids attend - something which was promised at the information night. I have received free tickets to Glenelg games from the school - but never for games against interlopers (not that I'd use them). Heck, the Eagles did their own promotion of games against AFL clubs in their zone to good effect - did the AFL clubs do anything? Interest in the league has noticeably decreased. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the clowns have close to zero support at SANFL games - a far cry from the promised 4000 per game. A cursory analysis of crowd statistics shows that the smears have the second-worst away game attendance of all participating teams; the average attendance at home games involving AFL clubs in the 2015 season was below average for all but one of the sovereign SANFL clubs. Presumably the clubs are getting their 50000 pieces of silver from the clowns - one wonders how much of this is eroded by abandoned membership money, and reduced take at the game from the people who are not attending. From all reports the other interloper has not paid a cent, and is doing its best to weasel out of honouring its financial agreement. You make a deal with the devil, you get what you deserve.

Perhaps Glenelg would still be up the creek if the interlopers had never been admitted, perhaps not. Certainly one thing would be different if Chiggy (and his mates on the SANFL commission) had voted NO: Glenelg would be facing death on its feet, instead of on its knees.

What is your members shape is exponential (utopian concept I know but one can dream) and a Logarithmic equation is more fitting to describe the flaccidity....
You can also map it out on the Cartesian plane. To achieve an optimum rootability quotient your X and Y axes ratio would have to at least be 1:1. If Y= less than X and less than zero then you're probably gonna be out of luck. No integral calculus for you.

Bloody parents who don't do the small things to give their kids the best chance of success.

Have a work experience kid in this week, she was late yesterday.
And even later today. I asked why she was late and, "my whole family slept in".
Mum brings her to within a kilometre of work (where mum had a Drs appointment) and leaves daughter to walk the rest of the way.
Yes, these kids need to sort themselves out and develop responsibility, but they don't have a bloody chance if the parents don't give them the tools to gain that skill.
It's far too easy to become a parent.

I'm certainly not one for right-wing ideas, and I don't have kids (as far as I know ;) ), but I've always felt that people who want to bring kids into the world need to justify that they possess the skills to raise a child to adulthood. Most people who become parents can achieve this and understand the responsibility required. Most. The rest are largely responsible for producing society's f**k-ups and those who sadly fall between its cracks.

In an ideal world, a penis would come with a simple quadratic equation. The equation would require solution before the penis would function. In other words "Find the root to get a root".

The same process could be used on ballot slips: Solve a simple equation or the vote is informal.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Girl from North Adelaide FC rang me up today asking why I hadnt renewed my membership for the first time in over 30 years.
I said it was because I've become disenchanted with the competition because of the AFL clubs presence in the comp, she gave me the impression that was the issue with others she was contacting too.
I haven't renewed my Sturt membership this year either, normally a season member, and got a call from the club a few weeks ago. I told them I'm disillusioned with the comp and where it's heading, every year there's something more that undermines its integrity and that every proposed change I've been told about (from people at Sturt), has amounted to nothing and that tells me that the clubs want changes but they're being suppressed or overruled. I also said that if no one in power, in the media or in a position to argue for change and stand up for the integrity of the comp chooses to remain silent then why should I spend my hard earned?
This doesn't sit well with me and it nags at my conscience, I've given the reserves teams a fair go and hate going to those games, I've remained a member through that time all the while hoping for some sort of correction but nothing. Mates have stopped their membership once the reserves teams came in as a protest, now I can't see what else I can do to show my concern and displeasure.
The bloke on the phone expressed similar thoughts and that nothing will change.
Someone from the GFC called me about membership renewal back in the pre-season. I said that I wouldn't be taking out membership. He didn't ask why. I began to tell him anyway. He was very keen to get off the phone at this point. I dare say that the care factor = 0 at Glenelg.

Re: AFL teams to stay, clubs to receive $250k this year - Ol

If every sovereign SANFL club supporter boycotted Crows and Port reserves games such that the only people in attendance were a handful of AFL fans and respective club officials etc, you can be sure something would be done about it well before the end of Olsen's 10 year timeframe.
I have NEVER attended one and NEVER will.
