Re: Adelaide Crows Reserves 2014

The only name it should be changed to is

"WHITE ELEPHANT STADIUM"

The amount of money spent just for an extra 20,000 seats, most of which will be covered in a few years time, is not justified with the hospital systems in such a horrific state. And the money spent on the walk way is ridiculously excessive.

Re: General tv discussion thread - good, bad, axings etc etc

Set your DVD timer to record/watch ABC2 Thursday 28 November at 22.15 "The day the immigrants left"

Its a British doco where long term unemployed Brits complain that immigrants are taking jobs away from the British. The unemployed Brits are interviewed at the start and they brag about how they are not afraid of hard work and will do any type of work. Then they are given/offered jobs that the immigrants do (which supposedly prevent the Brits getting work) but then see the excuses fly think and fast when they don't do the jobs as good as the immigrants or the excuses for not turning up for the jobs. A real eye opener on unemployment and prejudice/racism.

Re: Rnd 2 - Central v Norwood @ Playford Alive Oval (Sat 12/

Another reason why the Ressies should play after the League is because the amount of rain expected in the days leading up to the match, if the ressies play before the league the ground will be in such a poor condition (understandable taking into account the rain situation) for the League match. Surely the best ground condition should left for the league game.

PLAY THE RESSIES IN THE AFTERNOON AT 3.30PM.

Alternative songs for other clubs

Central District – Hey Bulldog (Beatles)
North Adelaide – Little Red Rooster (Rolling Stones)
Eagles – Wings of an Eagle (Russell Morris) or Eagle Rock (Daddy Cool)
Norwood – Legs (Z Z Top)
Glenelg – Eye of the Tiger (Survivor) [probably Glenelg's unofficial alternate team song as it is played at a lot of Glenelg home games)

Re: Israel/Hamas Conflict

Until the West stops blindly siding with Israel and treats the situation on its merits this conflict will never end.

Israel defend their right to exist but deny the Palestinians the same.

Israel claims the right to arm and defend themselves but deny the Palestinians the same.

Palestinians are not united and have splinter groups that cannot be managed, Israel act as one.

Israel claim the accept a 2 state solution but keep illegally occupying the West Bank.

Palestinians (Hamas) keep firing rockets into Israel to goad them and the Israelis gladly oblige even though they do little damage.

It's a faarking mess.

Good points. Check the borders of Israel when it was formed in 1948 and check Israel's borders now. Israel is continuing to increase its area by taking over Palestinian land and forcibly removing Palestinians from their homes and land. Israel built walls, each stretching hundreds of miles, to keep out Palestinians.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel%E2%80%93Gaza_barrier
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_West_Bank_barrier

The Berlin was universally condemned until it was finally removed in 1989 but hardly a whisper but the walls Israel built which serves their own purpose just as the Berlin wall served East Berlin (and Russia's) own purpose.

Re: Israel/Hamas Conflict

USS Liberty incident

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Liberty_incident#Visual_contact

Opening paragraph of the article of the above link

(quote) The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a United States Navy technical research ship, USS Liberty, by Israeli Air Force jet fighter aircraft and Israeli Navy motor torpedo boats, on 8 June 1967, during the Six-Day War.[3] The combined air and sea attack killed 34 crew members (naval officers, seamen, two Marines, and one civilian), wounded 171 crew members, and severely damaged the ship.[4] At the time, the ship was in international waters north of the Sinai Peninsula, about 25.5 nmi (29.3 mi; 47.2 km) northwest from the Egyptian city of Arish.[1][5] (end quote)

Israel claimed it was mistaken for an Egyptian ship but crew from the U.S.S. Liberty state that the ship's flag and identification number and markings clearly indicated it was an American ship.

Israeli and American government investigations concluded that it was a mistake but there are crew from the U.S.S. Liberty (as above) and American politicians who dispute the findings.

What's your point? (Don't mean that in a rude way at all)

Just pointing out the activities of Israel while they (Israel) and the rest of the Western world condemn activities of the Palestinians and other Middle East countries.

Re: North V Adelaide

… Interesting moment about halfway into in the last term, where the Crows were pinged for what seemed to be a breach of the 6-6-6 rule. The central umpire waited to bounce the ball, and it seemed like on f the Crows players (number 40, IIRC) had gone to the wrong position in the forward line, and then sprinted back to the defensive 50. Before he entered the 50 the ump blew his whistle and awarded the free to North. However, the interesting thing is that the free kick was awarded not in the middle, but about 25 metres from goal. Lewis Hender promptly slotted the goal, effectively sealing the match.

For a 666 rule infringement, its a free kick plus a 50 metre penalty.

Re: Football Budget Team of the Decade - 2000s

I missed getting a copy o f the SA Football Budget from the first week of finals for the Elimination and Qualifying finals. I have been following the teams of the decades and believe the 2000's team was in that budget. As a Centrals fan I would be very interested in this team as I think we would have a good representation.
Would someone please list the team for me.

Here's a classic gaff from Pot Black when Britain was changing over from b/w to colour Television

Commentator Ted Lowe, aware that not all viewers had colour televisions, said "and for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green."

Admittedly, its not a double entendre but a classic sporting commentary gaff.

Re: SANFL Clubs

I have just donated $100 to my club (that's on top of membership and new scarf, cap & t-shirt). I urge every one to make a donation to help their club through this very trying times. If 3,000 supporters/members donate $20 each to their club, that's $60,000 that's helping your club.

Think about how much money you have spare not going to games this year, not going to the pub for meals and drinks. Donate the money you're saving staying home to your club. Every little bit helps. Certainly Membership and merchandise helps but fork out a little bit more in a donation.

Re: The best/worst headlines

In 1959 Liberace took the English newspaper (for want of a better description) the Daily Mirror to court for libel for describing him as a "…the summit of sex—the pinnacle of masculine, feminine and neuter. Everything that he, she and it can ever want… a deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavoured, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love", basically describing him as a homosexual. Surprisingly, Liberace won the case and was awarded 8,000 pounds. When he died from complications due to being HIV positive the Daily Mirror supposedly ran the headline, "Can we have our money back?"

Lawks-a-lordy, a very impressive effort by the Bays to drag themselves back into the match from nowhere and jag the win. One for the record-keepers, perhaps - I'm thinking of comebacks at half time by the Bays (or anyone for that matter) to win at the Parade?

Interested to see how we shape up against the Bays on the Queen's Birthday.
I seem to remember The 'Dogs doing it back in the 70's, about 7 goals down at 1/2 time at The Parade & getting up to win.

Like Glenelg, Norwood get Port prior to their league team playing so a couple of players will not play.

Friday night at home against Port should be a good crowd.
