Re: SAAFL Division 3 2014

Is this official yet?
Only three left from last year sounds dire. If it happens, the travel factor suits us too. Bloody Mitcham.

Re: SAAFL Division 3 2014

Some season defining games this week i reckon.

Must wins and super keen to win....
Salisbury to climb out of relegation territory.
Athelstone with a new coach to prove his worth.
Pembroke against the division benchmark having only won against Kilburn.

To get some space between themselves and will be very close.....
Mitcham and Modbury
Unley and Plympton.

Can't find PNU in the fixture for this Div, must be playing elsewhere.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 4 - 2015

Well done to Salisbury on top of the wozza. Putting out some good numbers after a couple of trying years! Assuming some of the younger brigade are stepping up?
Very much so mate, the big gap between Div 3-4 has also meant the ideas and structures and specific roles for guys that were implemented during beltings we copped last year (from the likes of yourselves, Modbury, Pembroke etc) have definitely made us a better side this year.

Great to hear we helped out. :-) I think the main thing we learnt from the beltings we copped from Portland, PAOC, CBCOC etc. in 08/09/10 was we didn't like it.

Re: Club Payments Crackdown

A few of the reasons I've heard why this got voted up by the SAAFL as a member of the SACFL -

We need to get player payments under control as concerns are being expressed by the AFL on clubs across Australia being compliant with tax, workcover, super etc. obligations.
Given this being the main driver, its coming and we need to get the best out of it we can.
Restrictions on player movement (APPS I assume) only inflates the amount paid to individuals. This escalates I assume once a player comes back to zero points, he can demand more money knowing to replace him would cost points.
It is likely to be less onerous on clubs to administer the cap than it would be to raise more money each year just to remain competitive. Interesting, I wouldn't like to be one stuffing up with a clerical error and causing the loss of premiership points etc.

I'm not a big fan, but if we have to have it, we make it work for footy. As far as the cap amount, I'd like to see it lowered. A lot. $30k should be more than enough for an SAAFL club. Can't speak for country clubs. But right now without a cap how much do the BL&G league clubs care about Mallee League clubs trying to compete to attract players? Do clubs want it to be more about who can raise the more money wins? There probably can be some work applied to the cap rules for the rural clubs (a long way from available players) where petrol money alone won't treat the travel costs , as well as coach payment limits. And probably other areas as well.

Regulation can work in footy. The almost there socialism for the NFL in the USA works quite well with drafts and salary caps. It isn't too onerous to regulate compliance within a relatively small number of competitors. Given we have a similar setup with our indigenous game at grass roots, we could get a good outcome as well. I don't know if a salary cap has been attempted in soccer, but it would be interesting to see a comparison of the spread of winners across competitors in the Premier League, NFL and AFL over a period of time that covers salary cap vs. no salary cap. There, I'll have a lie down now.

Re: CH9AFL DIvision 4 2016

As a long time Demons member to see the way the lads played on Saturday was extreme disappointing as they were clearly the best side all year.

WOS were far too good on the day and thoroughly deserved their win, congratulations guys.

What is also disappointing in some of the comments on this forum regarding EPFC and northern clubs from ill informed elitist posters.

"LMA - Immature, poor sportsmanship by EP" Now I was there and your water boy was just giving it to our players non stop and it was your supporter who came down to the fence to have a crack at Woodward which inflamed the situation and he knew it. People in glass houses?

Now not for one second do I condone Woodward's behavior and actions. I sincerely hope that he is dealt with accordingly. The guy who came in after was an EPFC supporter but I have only seen him a couple of times before and he not a member of our club. I believe there will be action taken against him as well.

"WOS Dragons - Woodward is a peasant" Really? Is that the best and most appropriate comment you can come up with as an old scholar. Surely something more eloquent from your list of adjectives is more appropriate from such highly educated person such as yourself.

"LMA - Give them their own league". What a absolutely joke. What do you guys really want, an exclusive old scholars - university competition run by elitist snobs from Adelaide, Unley & surrounding parklands . Although it would probably be the most sanitised competition we would ever see it also most likely be the most boring. Yelling from the sidelines would be banned and "Well done chaps" would be the order of the day.

All clubs have their good and bad, both players & supporters alike but making it personal based on demographics is highly offensive. Have I made derogatory comments about WOS lack of parking, their facilities and their couch, no I haven't. The Ch9AFL competition has been made stronger by the clubs from all parts of Adelaide and to single out one area is pure hypocrisy.

Hmmm.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2017

Flattered that Glenunga are so taken by the Jets and our players that they've tried to buy everyone from 18 -23 in our A grade.

I guess it's easier than developing your own kids.

They should do it the old fashioned way of attaching themselves to a college at the same time the points system comes in.

That or try to outspend North Haven (no guarantees there).

Re: New Rules 2019

One other major change to be implemented next year will be a tightening of the holding the ball rule, with the player who has possession of the ball to be penalised more often if there is seen to be a prior opportunity or if there is not a genuine attempt to dispose of the ball.

I welcome this change in the interpretation of HTB. Every game last season I played in we had players from either side hold onto the footy with every chance to dispose of the ball but the umpires let it go and let the player hold onto the ball then finally call a ball up, much to the frustration of the players thinking he would be penalized. It became comical at times as even my own teammates could hold on to it knowing they won't get pinned until there was the odd occasion, maybe once a game where a player would get pinged for not getting rid of it.

This is a change for the better, rewarding the tackler more often.

Agree, would’ve been a world record number of ball ups in 2018.

Re: I need to know....

My concern is being 8 down before I start the build!

So I can't help but offer advice, 8 beers in will help.
But the best thing I did was put on one of those head torches (yep, good look) to see what you are doing cos it's going to take a while in the dark with the mozzies having a feast. And get an allen key fitting for your power drill if the trampoline has nuts or fittings with these in the head. Saves some time. To avoid sudden outbursts of anger, take no other advice at the time you are assembling the trampoline and recycle the packaging. Do not consider this personal and professional advice but rather, advice of a general nature. :-)

Ok; then I'll copy your tips next time then.

And LM, I enjoyed the margin concept this year, added a bit of variability which was great. Just a pity I'm a crap tipper. Just waiting on FC to stump up with prizes for the winner, cash, alcohol etc. to incentivise quality tipping

Re: AFL 2020 Season

I heard on the weekend that the top 11 or 12 executives of the AFL are paid the same as the salary cap for one AFL team. Seems like we've let the bottom feeders take over our game. Do the AFL do realise they aren't footy and that real footy will take place regardless of an AFL being there, or not?

Re: I need to know....

Does anyone have any recommendations for a mobile mechanic to work on a 60yo car? Not a huge job, but I've run out of time to get to it.
The Daimler need some work Arthur?
Daimler-Soveriegn-Arthur-Da-large_transqVzuuqpFlyLIwiB6NTmJwfSVWeZ_vEN7c6bHu2jJnT8.jpg

Very clever Beefy. This ones a plain old Holden, not up to your standards I know. `:-)
I actually have a car very similar to this but it's branded a jaguar

So, I convinced my motorcycle mechanic mate from around the corner to help last night. I thought the fuel was stale, he thought fuel wasn't getting in to the engine. We (well he did actually) found the needle stuck in the seat in the carby, he was right. My days as a mechanic have come and gone it seems.

Re: I need to know....

Cheers.
The wife drinks gin as well so we’ll head there tomorrow for a day session with friends.
As for price I’ve been too most of the craft breweries here in and around Adelaide so I’m sure the prices are similar here anyway.

I’ll get my draught(Carlton or WED) fix at the footy Saturday as I’m heading over to watch wallaroo play.

Going there this arvo, might take the treadly. Craft beers can be a bit pricey but they do provide great ideas and options for the home brewer.

Re: SANFL Junior codes

Yeah OK FC. It was 5.26am - damn cat wanted to be let outside - and wasn't aware of an IF statement at that point. Feel a bit sorry for IF with this whole thing because I don't know about the rest of you but the last thing I ever think of doing is going for the phone and start videoing incidents such as this. If the bloke was that concerned about his boundary umpire son he is hardly offering support and protection by videoing things from 40 metres away. He could have quietly walked onto the Edwardstown bike track and suggested to his lad to get away from the disturbance and leave it for the more mature field umpire and club officials to sort out. Of course this still doesn't excuse what happened next.

But this whole situation highlights a bigger issue for SANFL Juniors. I can't help but think that playing a game from 5.15pm to around 6.45pm on a Sunday evening was a contributing factor. Players, officials, umpires and parents have school and work the next day and would already be a bit frazzled with a game being played at that time on a Sunday. Very few clubs have the luxury of a 2nd oval such as Golden Grove and clubs like Brighton are forced, at a cost, to use Brighton PS, the Lacrosse Pitch & Mitchell Park Oval to fit all our home matches. Some of the league grounds are very underutilised so why can't they have some hubs where a whole heap of U7 to maybe U10 matches get played each week to free up the club grounds for better fixture solutions.
I understand from the quote mentioned on the radio this morning that his motivation for filming was to support the player report process, not necessarily to "protect his son". From that I assume he wasn't concerned that he or his son would end up copping it. But they did. Blaming game times, MDOs etc. won't solve this. Just don't abuse and assault people.

Re: CBD (Cannabinoid)

Happy Herbs should provide a batch number and link to go to and see the analysis of the content of the oil. The level of THC is rarely guaranteed to be zero. So if you have to lick a stick on the side of the road or for work there remains a slight chance you'll get an indication. It is available on script from certain places where concentrations are much higher, sometimes 5x, but he price per mg is about the same. And yes my experience with the taste; bong water, especially the higher concentrated ones.
