Roy Park - one test. Faced one ball, duck.
Bowled one over, hit for nine runs.

Re: WG GRACE

Grace had as much an influence on the game as Bradman.
He saw the game develop and helped it develop with his play and shenanigans.
An average of 32 and 39 on uncovered decks tells us he was pretty darn good.
From the books I've read, I also wouldn't describe him as a 'poonce', as that suggests he had a veneer of femininity and weakness. He was a man of very strong character and would happily fight his corner.

Re: The future of West Adelaide.

I'm sensitive to spelling.
If you're going to take the piss, at least get your spelling right.

If you're going to have a go at someone's spelling i suggest you spell EVERYTHING correctly. :D

I was being colloqiual (and laughing at myself).
Whoever created that meme and spelt sensitive wrong is just an idiot.

Re: Things that make you laugh

I played my first game of cricket in about six years on Saturday.
I kept wickets.

Today, I'm sitting at work with an ice pack under each thigh.
What was I thinking?

Things that made me laugh from the game itself?

* I faced a deadset chucker.
* The chucker, at one stage, changed his run up and zig-zagged behind the umpire so I thought he was going to go around the wicket. So I pulled away. He stood to the side of the pitch and glared at me. Seriously, mate? You're lucky we even allowed you to bowl.
* Spin bowler decides he's going to change the field just as I'm about to settle over the bat. He makes three changes, skipper makes a change or two, just I thought it was all over, the keeper makes a few changes. All in all, it took about five minutes. The bowler then asks me, "are you ready?"
* Number nine batsman comes to the wicket and says to me, "just letting you know, the next bloke in has no idea with the bat". Having seen the number nine in the nets, I knew we were in trouble.

Re: Ashes First Test Live Discussion

Andy Flower said he has dealt with with for quite a while

Which most likely true but unfortunately the general public are going to see a bloke who has walked away at 1-0 down, when out of form, discovered weakness of the short pitch stuff, on quick bouncier wickets than his use to.

I'm not.
I'm seeing a player with a predisposed condition, like a hamstring, who thought he could manage a situation with the support of his team management but, unfortunately, was unable to.

Re: Things that make you laugh

I think comparing entertainers to a cricket team is a fair comparison.
There are only 11 players in a team at any one time.
However, there are many more 'entertainers' across Australia than 11, it's a greater proportion.
Plus, most of those Poms you mentioned were part of an immigration program to grow a country - England's South African/Zimababwean crickets were not part of an official program of moving people to a country.

Cal Wilson is an entertainer in Australia, not an Australian entertainer. She is not representing Australia in a team unlike that other great comedian, KP.

I dunno, maybe I'm just thinking about it too much and taking it too seriously. ;)

Re: The South Australian Political Landscape

How well Weatherill or Marshall define a plan for the future of this state following the Holden announcement, will decide this election.
Forget all of the political discussions (not that small target Marshall has said much) of this week - that's pure theatre.

What comes next? These guys need to announce a plan and work towards it. Whoever is most convincing in that argument will win the election for their party.

I would just really, really like to see a plan that is going to keep my community, as well as this state, on its feet; not political meandering.

Both parties have known for years Holden was on the way out but neither have made any plans for that future. It's time to do that and prove that being in politics is not just about idealogical debate, but providing leadership and hope to those who have elected you.

Re: Gay marriage, yes or no...?

Yes, but, heck, there was a lot of damage done during the time it was allowed.
All sorts of terrible things happened - Mandela died, Holden's closure announced, Broad and Johnson damaged the spirit of cricket.
I know where the blame falls.

Re: Compiling Accurate Stats PAFC

What the man does or does not do for West Adelaide is his concern, not mine.

I comment on someone else writing about MY CLUB and I'm the Troll? So very typical of this backward Forum.

Call it Historical revisionism all you like. I call it muckraking

REALLY? Clearly with all this time on your hands you decided to focus on Port Adelaide, instead of devising a way for your own club, West Adelaide to better keep track of its funds.

In bold is where you a) troll and b) suggest other things he should be doing for West Adelaide, so clearly you think it is your business.

He's not muckraking - just as protocols needed to be established for WWT after their merger, they need to be established for Port Adelaide and the Magpies' place as the PAFC's first and then second priority.

But, hey, you'll pick a fight out of anything.

Re: Things that you rate!

Been meaning to post this since Sunday:

I was walking towards the train after the cricket Sunday when this short, boofheaded chick comes up to me and my mate and asks, "how'd the cricket go today? Ho'd it go?". I looked and started to say, "It went really well..." Then I realised who it was. "Cavey! How are ya!". Whoops...."Get f*c*ed, you c**t. Get f*c*ed, think you're fu*ke* funny!".

Folks, just to let you know, Pram Lady is still alive and kicking. She had a pram, too.

Re: Ashes 5th Test Sydney Discussion (Pink Test)

Oh yeah maybe Haddin is scared of facing Steyn Morkel and Philander.......................

On the last tour of SA , Brad was given a work out by several posters about his lack of form
Where are the same posters now ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Most have been very very quiet about Brad this series

I was one. I haven't been quiet this series. I've apologised.
However, his form in that series was still rubbish - keeping was stodgy (and let's not forget his bye-riddled start).
This series is the best I've ever seen him keep.

Re: WOMENS ASHES

Bad taste - edited by me.

As for comments about the standard. Sure, it's a lesser standard but so is the A League and local basketball as compared to the UK and US, yet most of us would profess to still watching it or at least having an interest.

It can't be doing the sport in general any harm in having this much interest in women's cricket, either.

ODI and T20 matches from this series will be broadcast on Gem.

Re: What Are You Listening To Now?

I've started to put together 3 album playlists on the ipod to roll around for a week at a time in the car. I spend a fair bit of time in the car so three albums in a week, I'll hear each album 2-3, maybe 4 times. This weeks are :

Original Pirate Material - The Streets

Yield - Pearl Jam

Nimrod - Greenday
Yield = amazing
My second favourite album behind Vs.

Ten, for mine with Yield and Vs right there, Backspacer also a pretty good album IMO.

"Ten" came along at a very formative time for me, 1991 heading into year 12 at school and then getting my first car. The times I cruised around in that burnt orange XE S Pack with "Porch" ripping out my Alpine system.......oh, good times, good times.

You sound so old. If you weren't talking about Pearl Jam, I'd think it was the 70s you're talking about! ;)

Re: Riverland Football Chatter

It's not an ordinary look for the league. It's sad for the league and the farming community that their football club no longer has the numbers to survive.
I had some good contests with East Murray blokes in the past and while they played it tough, they were good blokes - most of those fellas are still around the area and would be heartbroken.

It's possible, that eventually, with the Riverland's population drift, the Indies will disappear. Why anyone would take any glee from the death of football clubs is beyond me. Once the Indies are gone, the next focus for concern will be the Riverland B grade sides...

Brock did appear out of his depth.

However, Marshall needs to find another strategy other than the battering ram used by the Abbott Opposition during the Rudd/Gillard tenure in the federal sphere, it's not in him and I'm not sure it's in any of his parliamentary core - they'll get torn apart by Koutsantonis.
