Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Doesn't change how I feel, but I do feel this debate has:

http://beyondthemarquee.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/homer_jump_the_shark1.gif

Guys, some of the nonsensical, paranoid commentary on this issue does our competition's cause no favours.
Stick with the actual issues and you'll help us better.

I may actually be done with it.

I can see why its so fine for you you have one foot in both camps.

You are one of many who wears two scarfs.

As they say its like having two bob eachway.

Explains it all i reckon LOL

That's bullshit. Absolute BS, in regards to my stance.
My love is for the CDFC first, my AFL club second. By a long way.
My posts throughout this debate can verify that.
I even took the issue up with a Crows official on the weekend, probably ill-advisedly in the circumstances.
My point is that this debate, on this site, is now going around in ever decreasing circles and some of the issues of debate, such as whether Port is the real Port, are BS and are actually making us look more tin-foiled hat than sensible.

I hope that the people in charge make the right decisions later this year. I hope that an AFL seconds competition of some sort comes to fruition into the future.
I hope that my club continues to play in a competition of relevance.
I hope the words of our first premiership captain continue to ring true: "We are a club and we will go on".
But, as I said, I reckon I may actually be done with this debate.

Re: Round 11 - South v Central @ Hickinbotham (Sat 21/6)

UKF mentioned it was the Integrity Cup, part 2 - a name for this game adopted by many who care about the comp.
The fact someone chose to troll about that is not the fault of us who have been anti AFL reserves.

Re: APPS Country Football

Huge changes coming in for next season apparently, including a heavily monitored maximum player payment of $400 per player.

This is sure to end some country clubs.

Good luck with that.

For the honest clubs that are not within an hour of the CBD this will see some clubs fold. Who will drive to Yorkes or mid north or Riverland for 400 a game?

What, $400 isn't enough to travel to the YP, Mid North or Riverland? Seriously?
Two blokes, possibly three, getting $400 each and getting into a car and driving 200km, or less is not enough?
Says a lot about how out of control spending has become and how greedy blokes have become that $400 - in some cases half a week's wages - is not enough. The fault lies on both sides of the coin - club and player.

Guys, I've taken off the shot, not because of any potential action but just because it's not the type of shot we want to promote.

Also, had that been a shot of Cox and a raised elbow, others would be jumping up and down whilst others jumped to conclusions. - thx Lisa

Quality shot
I also wonder what would have been said if it was the Elizabeth player throwing a punch

Did wonder that myself, Rooey.

Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

so i have a question - who is to blame for diminishing crowds? is it the crows fault that a sturt glenelg game doesnt get the crowd it used to?

Yep my attendance and care factor of this league has dropped by heaps since the crows came in

I have misses more games this year alone than games in the last 20 years total

I'm actually going against the trend - I've been to more Dogs games this year than I would have in the past 20. Living back in Adelaide, kids slightly older and no footy commitments now mean I've been able to get to more games. It's not that my interest has increased, I just don't want to give up something I love so much, my footy club.

I would think this forum is one of the best ways to gauge feeling in the SANFL.
It's where SANFL fans go to talk about footy. Most of the regular posters here are strong SANFL supporters.
I've noticed a strong drop in the SANFL games threads, as an example.

Your words weren't twisted. You provided no context to your comment. The only thing any fellow poster could judge you on was your post, which seems to indicate you were making a joke out of the charges laid against Stevens and suggesting "at least someone was showing some fight". Provide the correct context and your words might not have been misconstrued. Thanks for the follow-up clarification.

Re: Round 14 - Central v Eagles @ Playford Alive (Sat 19/7)

There have been questions about the crowd figure in the past.

And while you don't wish to believe that crowd figures are down, they certainly appear to be so at CDFC games. You only have to look at the ease of parking around the ground, the lack of people on the northern hill, and the reduced numbers among the traditional base of opposition supporters on the eastern wing.

I don't take any joy from that fact, either. It causes me great concern.

Re: 2014 Tribunal News & Discussions

I thought the highlighted quote was pretty funny.

From Adelaidenow :

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/west-adelaide-defender-adam-hartlett-suspended-for-three-weeks-for-altercation-with-sturt-fan/story-fnii0631-1226997358246

The tribunal found that the contact between Hartlett and Grant was high, but of low impact.

Re: 2014 Tribunal News & Discussions

I don't disagree with Hartlett's penalty but in a peverse way it might encourage more of the dregs to front up (from behind a fence) and let loose at an opposition player. It would be a badge of honour to some of the cretins to think that they had a hand in a key opposition player missing important matches, for some, probably the highlight of their tiny lives. The fan involved has to face some consequences of his actions. What is going to happen to Grant??

Nothing needs to happen to Grant, Hartlett should be a professional and ignore it, not sure how Grant is getting any blame for this?

I don't disagree he should ignore. But it is very unusual for a player to snap like this in our game. For it to be the same bloke, means it should be looked into. There are levels of behaviour that should be expected of both players and spectators.

Re: SAAFL division 6 2014

Westfields
Para District Uniting
Mile End Cats
Salisbury College
Campbelltown-Magill
Paralowie
Ovingham
who will be the next former CDFA club that the SAAFL will end?

Pretty certain Westfields finished before the SAAFL days.
Mile End were booted after a trainer stabbed a Blakeview player with a pair of scissors (I know the victim of said stabbing). Blakeview, who you didn't mention, went because they were unsustainable, as were Ovingham, which had struggled for the best part of 20 years.
I don't recall a Salisbury College team, must've been a long time ago.
And Paralowie, I don't think their issues were the SAAFL's fault.

Good rant, though.

I have plenty of sympathy for Central United. However, they knew the rules for them this year and have worked hard to get around it. I don't see them complaining about anything, except for being let down by the actions of one representative. They've got a hard road ahead and, while I don't know too many people around the club these days, I know that they're keen to back it up - in order to survive.
To those who think it's easy to turnaround a club and just get rid of blokes before it happens, I'd like to see you come and try and work in a club that operates in these areas. The world's a pretty simple place when you come from, say, Unley. Rose-coloured glasses.

Re: Port Rezoning

Not saying that your opinions are less valid, they are probably more valid, but you have to admit your priorities probably cloud the bigger picture somewhat too sometimes.

I have no doubt they are.
My SANFL club is my priority, followed by my AFL club.
So why would I want further AFL intrusion in a competition that has already taken a back seat for the "bigger picture".
People say we're living in the past, that's not the case. We understand the SANFL's position - all those of us against this move want is to ensure our competition doesn't take a further slide into oblivion than it already has thanks to AFL expansion (Adelaide's entry, Port's entry, rookie listings which take more players from our comp, expansion clubs further removing players from the comp and now...AFL reserves removing more players from our clubs)?
The AFL is the premier competition, I have no complaints about that, it clearly is.
The SANFL is between a very large rock and a place that is growing ever harder.

Re: The 2014 season no AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

There are different aspects of the SANFL that when all brought together make it a great "product". Some of those aspects have been taken away with the AFL Reserves entry and the zone change.

It's the vibe.

Re: 2014 Recruits- Hits,Misses and undecided

No, because it's Wingard's third season and he's on half the money.

However, I agree that Betts is judged harshly.
He is probably as effective as Milne was over his career and as a small forward he was highly regarded.
Small forwards generally do get judged harshly, but the provide unpredictability, which is a good weapon to have.
Wouldn't mind seeing Betts spend a little more time as a mid, provide some magic through there occasionally, like Didak did for the Pies.
